Lebanon's ambassador to France is targeted by an investigation on suspicion of rape and violence

An investigation was opened in France on suspicion of rape and deliberate violent practices targeting the Lebanese ambassador to Paris, after two complaints were submitted by two former employees of the embassy, according to sources close to the investigation, which necessitated France’s request to lift his diplomatic immunity.

On Friday evening, the French Foreign Ministry indicated in a comment to Agence France-Presse that "in view of the seriousness of the aforementioned incidents, we consider it necessary for the Lebanese authorities to lift the immunity of the Lebanese ambassador to Paris in order to facilitate the work of the French judiciary."

The first complainant is 31 years old, and in June 2022 she filed a complaint in which she said, according to the text of the police report, that she was raped in May 2020 in a private apartment belonging to Ambassador Rami Adwan, Lebanon's ambassador to Paris since 2017.

In the complaint, the content of which was seen by AFP, the complainant confirms that she refused to have a sexual relationship and resorted to screaming and crying.

And the woman who was an editor had reported to the police in 2020 that Adwan had beaten her during a fight in his office, without filing a complaint on the pretext of “not destroying this man’s life” while he is married and the head of a family.

She said that she had an "affectionate affair" with the ambassador, who used to practice "psychological and physical violence against her and insult her daily."

The second complainant is 28 years old, and she formed an intimate relationship with the ambassador soon after she started working at the embassy as a trainee in 2018. She filed a complaint last February because, according to her words, she was subjected to a series of physical assaults that often resulted from her refusal to have sexual relations.

The complainant asserts that Adwan tried to hit her with his car following a quarrel on the sidelines of a forum for peace in Caen, western France, in September.

She also accuses the ambassador of trying to strangle her in her home by shoveling her face into the bed at the end of December.

In a comment made to AFP, the ambassador's legal representative, Karim Belloni, said that his client "denies all accusations of assault of any kind: whether verbal, moral or sexual."

He added that his client "had romantic relations with these two women between 2018 and 2022, punctuated by disputes and separations."

When asked about this file and what it intends to do, especially since Adwan enjoys diplomatic immunity, the Public Prosecutor in Paris said that "it is not possible for her to answer at the present time."

And the French Foreign Ministry had indicated earlier on Friday that it had no elements "in relation to this case that is being handled by the judiciary and which is covered by the confidentiality of the investigation."

Erdogan is sworn in as president for a third term in Türkiye

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Saturday, is sworn in as head of state after winning an unprecedented second round of elections for a new, third term of five years after his two-decade rule, amid worsening economic problems in this country.

The inauguration in parliament will be followed by a lavish ceremony in his palace in the capital, Ankara, attended by dozens of world leaders.

The transformative but divisive president won the second round of elections on May 28 against a powerful opposition coalition, despite an economic crisis and sharp criticism following the devastating earthquake that killed more than 50,000 people.

Erdogan won with 52.8 percent of the vote compared to 47.82 percent for his secular rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

The Turkish leader, who has been in power for a record time in Turkey, faces immediate and major challenges in his third term amidst a flagging economy and foreign policy tensions with the West.

"From a geopolitical point of view, the elections will reinforce Turkey's recent quest for an independent foreign policy," said Mart Gerteken, senior geopolitical strategist at BCA Research.

"This policy aims to extract maximum economic and strategic benefits from authoritarian eastern states while still preventing a permanent rupture in relations with western democracies," he added.

"It is likely that tensions with the West will escalate again, and within this framework, after Erdogan obtains a new mandate," he added.

Addressing the country's economic problems will be a top priority for Erdogan, with inflation now running at 43.70 percent, partly because of his unconventional policies of cutting interest rates to stimulate growth.

The president is set to announce his new government late Saturday, amid media speculation of a role for former Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, a reassuring figure of international stature.

This former Merrill Lynch economist is known for his opposition to Erdogan's unorthodox policies. He held the Ministry of Finance between 2009 and 2015, and was deputy prime minister in charge of the economy until 2018, then resigned before the lira deteriorated several times that year.

"Erdogan's government will follow a traditional stabilization program," said Alp Ernich Yildane, professor of economics at Istanbul's Kadir Has University.

"What we are seeing now is that the news about Mehmet Şimşek and his team is welcomed with enthusiasm by the markets," he added.

Members of Turkey's new parliament began taking the oath Friday in a first session after the May 14 elections, which Erdogan also attended.
His coalition has a majority in the 600-seat parliament.

Erdogan's victory came against a united opposition coalition led by Kilicdaroglu, whose future as CHP leader remains in doubt after the defeat.

NATO members want Ankara to greenlight Sweden's bid to join the US-led defense alliance ahead of a summit in July.

Erdogan stalled in approving the request, accusing Stockholm of harboring "terrorists" from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which Ankara and its Western allies classify on terrorist lists.

And NATO announced Friday that its Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will attend Erdogan's inauguration ceremony this weekend and will hold talks with him.

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström said on Twitter that a "clear message" had emerged from the NATO meeting in Oslo for Turkey and Hungary to start the ratification process.

His Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, replied, "A crystal clear message to our Swedish friends! Fulfill your obligations related to the tripartite memorandum and take concrete steps in the fight against terrorism...and the rest will follow."

Hamas condemns the renewal of the framework agreement between UNRWA and the United States

Hamas condemned, on Saturday, the signing of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) agreement to renew the framework agreement for the year 2023-2024 with the government of the United States of America, calling on the agency’s management to immediately retract it, and to provide all political, legal and living support to Palestinian refugees in all their locations. .

In a press statement, the movement said, "The agreement expresses the agency's administration's acquiescence once again to American pressure under the pretext of the financial crisis," indicating that this deviates from UNRWA's mandate given to it by the United Nations upon its founding, to provide relief and employment for Palestinian refugees as owners of a just cause, foremost of which is the struggle until Collecting their rights to return and self-determination. according to the text of its statement.

The movement added that UNRWA, through the mandate granted to it, is not "neutral", but rather its duty is to provide a decent life for Palestinian refugees and support them in achieving their political and civil rights, foremost of which is the right of return, self-determination and expression. according to the text of the statement.

She warned that the most dangerous thing in this agreement is that the alleged neutrality extends beyond the institution to affect the refugee who is struggling to obtain his legitimate rights within the framework of international law.

And Hamas continued: “Everyone knows that the financial crisis is artificial with the aim of undermining the UNRWA, as a living witness and a legal document to preserve the most important rights of Palestinian refugees to return, compensation, and struggle for this, and therefore the agency’s management is obligated to search for solutions to the financial crisis away from any agreements that contradict the mandate granted.” It has, especially with the US administration that is completely and unconditionally biased in favor of the Zionist enemy. Biden will sign a measure that allows his country to avoid a "catastrophic" default on the debt

President Joe Biden announced Friday that he will sign Saturday a measure authorizing an increase in US government borrowing, removing the "catastrophic" threat of default that has loomed over the world's largest economy.

"I will sign tomorrow," Biden said, addressing the nation from the Oval Office, adding, "Nothing would be more irresponsible and nothing would be more catastrophic" than a default.

US senators voted in favor of raising the federal debt ceiling on Thursday, at the end of painstaking negotiations to ward off the specter of a catastrophic default, just four days before the deadline set by the Treasury Department.

Economists have warned that the United States may not be able to pay its bills by Monday, leaving no room for delay in implementing the "Fiscal Responsibility Act" that extends government borrowing authority to 2024 while cutting federal spending.

And the Senate passed the measure that Biden reached with the Republicans by a comfortable majority (63 to 36 votes), the day after its approval in the House of Representatives.

"Nobody gets everything they want in negotiations, but rest assured that this bipartisan agreement is a huge victory for our economy and the American people," Biden said in a statement posted on social media.

In turn, the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, stressed that the country could now "breathe a sigh of relief" after avoiding a "catastrophic" economic collapse.

"But after the many difficulties it took to get to this point, it is good for this country that the two parties have finally come to an agreement in order to avoid default," he added.

The bill, which will now be submitted to Biden for his signature in order to become law, put an end to the debates between the leaders and members of the two parties, which continued to threaten its approval in light of disagreements that continued until the last moments over the details.

Democratic leaders spent months focusing on the chaos that the first default in history would have caused, including the loss of millions of jobs and $15 trillion in family wealth, as well as rising mortgage costs and other forms of leverage.

The events came late Thursday night after a series of failed votes on amendments demanded mainly by Republicans, who at one point threatened to disrupt the process, to continue through the weekend.

Senators offered 11 amendments to the 99-page text, as many opposed funding levels for projects important to them -- from border control and trade with China to taxation and the environment. Consequently, each of these issues called for a vote.

At one point, defense hardliners were unhappy with the Pentagon's spending cap.

In the end, they accepted its passage after obtaining a pledge to a separate law allocating cash funds to defend Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion, support US national security interests in the Middle East, and in the face of increasing Chinese hostile moves towards Taiwan.

"As it stands, this bill puts our military at a disadvantage," said South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. "The most significant money we budget each year is that devoted to protecting and defending the United States and our interests."

The United States spends more money than it collects in taxes, so it borrows money by issuing government bonds, the most reliable investments in the world.

Almost 80 years ago, Representatives put an end to the federal debt that could be accumulated.

The cap has been raised more than 100 times since to allow the government to meet its spending commitments, usually without fanfare and with the support of Democrats and Republicans, and now stands at about $31.5 trillion.

The two parties believe that raising the debt ceiling is poisoning the political atmosphere, although they acknowledge that failure to do so will plunge the US economy into recession and lead to turmoil in global markets with the government's inability to pay its debts.

Republicans hoped to use the extension as a weapon against what they see as excessive spending by the Democrats ahead of the 2024 presidential elections, even though the debt ceiling increase covers only commitments already made by both parties.

Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy described the agreement, which he spent weeks negotiating, as a major victory for conservatives, although it faced criticism from the hard right, who saw it as too concessional in terms of spending cuts.

Short of one vote out of the 150 he pledged to win in the House (two-thirds of his caucus) as he battled a right-wing rebellion and needed Democrats' help to move the bill to the Senate.

As for Biden, he believes that the vote constitutes an important victory for him, as he succeeded in protecting almost all of his internal priorities from the large spending cuts that the Republicans threatened.

"This legislation protects the full confidence and credibility of the United States and preserves our leadership role financially, which is essential to our economic growth and stability," said Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

45 bags containing human remains were found in Mexico

Forty-five bags containing human remains were found in a valley in the state of Jalisco, western Mexico, during the search for eight young men working in a call center who had been missing for ten days, according to local authorities Friday.

"Forty-five bags containing the remains of men and women were recovered," the office of Attorney General Luis Joaquin Mendez said in a statement. "I want to make it clear that the number of bags does not correspond to the number of victims who were found in them," he told reporters at the location where the bags were found.

The bags were found at the bottom of a 40-meter-deep valley in Zapopan, near Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco state.

The authorities had launched a campaign to find two women and six men, all in their 30s, who went missing between May 20 and 22.

The prosecution said that the organs found in the bags match the specifications of some of the missing.

Mendez confirmed that there are indications of a physical and metric match with some of the victims. "I cannot give the exact number because we need the forensic doctors' reports," he added.

The six missing persons were working in a call center located in the same area where the bags were found.

Federal authorities indicated that this call center was involved in real estate fraud and telephone extortion.

However, the relatives of the missing people rejected this hypothesis, accusing the authorities of turning the victims into criminals.

In recent years, human remains have been found in bags or in secret graves in different regions of the state of Jalisco, where more than 15,000 people have gone missing since 1962.

In 2021, seventy bags containing the remains of 11 people were found in Tonala, near Guadalajara.

More than 340,000 murders and the loss of about 100,000 people have been recorded in Mexico, mainly attributed to criminal organizations, since the launch of a wide and controversial military campaign in December 2006 aimed at combating drug trafficking.

Washington, Tokyo and Seoul want to share missile warning data by the end of the year

The United States, Japan and South Korea seek to share North Korean missile warning data before the end of 2023, the three countries said in a statement following a meeting of their defense ministers in Singapore on Saturday.

The statement said the three parties "recognize the tripartite efforts to activate the real-time missile warning data exchange mechanism before the end of the year in order to improve each country's ability to detect and assess missile launches" by North Korea.

The announcement followed a failed North Korean attempt to launch a spy satellite on Wednesday.

The South Korean military said it was able to locate the site of the fall and recover part of the supposed wreckage.

Seoul, Tokyo and Washington condemned the launch, saying it violated a number of UN Security Council resolutions that prohibit Pyongyang from conducting any test using ballistic missile technology.

Pyongyang has intensified its military development since diplomatic efforts failed in 2019. It has conducted a number of banned weapons tests, including the firing of a number of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Last year, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared his country's status as a "nuclear power" to be "irreversible" and called for a "significant" increase in weapons production, including tactical nuclear weapons.

The Nakba is repeated in Masafer Yatta

Jerusalem Hadith

Jerusalem Hadith

Opinion Writer

The Israeli authorities allowed the establishment of "6" random settlement outposts in the Masafer Yatta area, south of Hebron, after the Supreme Court approved the expulsion of the indigenous Palestinian residents from this area, under the pretext that it is used for military training and live fire.

The mass expulsion decision was issued by the highest judicial authority in Israel against thousands of Palestinian citizens who have been living in Masafer Yatta for hundreds of years, where they languish in caves and simple houses and live on agriculture and livestock, and now they are homeless and dispersed in several areas. Scenes of the 48 year catastrophe that our people were subjected to.

What happened in the Al-Mosafer area is part of the comprehensive war that Israel is waging against our people in the Palestinian territories, especially in the northern and southern regions of the West Bank and in Area C, according to the Oslo Accords, where Smotrich decided, with a green light from Netanyahu, to increase the number of settlers. In the West Bank to about a million settlers, which aims to create a demographic balance in the same geographical area inhabited by both sides, which means that Israel is pushing for an all-out war in the region that eats everything and everything.

What happened in al-Musafir is not far from what is happening in Jerusalem in terms of ethnic cleansing against the citizens of Jerusalem and restrictions on them in all ways and areas of life with the aim of pushing them to emigrate from the city and resort to living in its surroundings, and this aims to make Arab and Islamic Jerusalem with a Jewish majority in the short term.

This also coincides with Israel's threat to implement Operation Defensive Wall 2 in the West Bank, similar to what happened in the Al-Aqsa Intifada that broke out in 2000, where Israel says that there are armed cells that must be uprooted, especially in Nablus, Jenin and Tulkarm, and this does not It can only be achieved by a large-scale military operation in those areas, which means that a lot of blood will be spilled throughout the country and its breadth, while the international community does not move a finger and is content with statements of denunciation, condemnation, and denunciation, which neither protect the Palestinian people nor achieve justice for them.

Returning to Masafer Yatta, Israel's approval of the establishment of "6" settlement outposts in the vast area is a prelude to converting them into large and wide settlements within the framework of the gradual implementation of the Smotrich plan by pushing about half a million new settlers into the West Bank from its north to its south, bringing the number to nearly a million. We mentioned above, to turn it into a state for the settlers, whom Israel provides with weapons, protection and fortification, in the face of the defenseless Palestinian citizen, except for his will to remain and stand firm on the land of the fathers and grandfathers and protect it with all available capabilities, whatever the cost.

In front of this, we see that we are facing a new catastrophe. About two weeks ago, the Bedouin population was expelled from the Ain Samia area in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate, and yesterday, the residents of Masafer Yatta are expelled and settlers replace them, and this, in our estimation, is a harbinger of new displacement awaiting the Palestinian people, who are shouting at the top of their voices, “We want International protection from the last occupation in human history.

Our blacksmith does not make swords

Hamdi Farrag

Every time the memory of the setback comes, two sayings jump to my mind, the first of the master of the resistance, Hassan Nasrallah, that Israel at that time occupied everything it occupied from the rest of Palestine to Egypt to Syria to Jordan to Lebanon in six hours, not in six days, and the second saying of the poet Nizar Qabbani's "There is no blacksmith in our country who makes swords" from a long famous poem entitled "Houages on the Notebook of the Setback".

The first, within twenty years of founding his party, he was able to liberate southern Lebanon after the Israeli forces invaded it, along with its historical capital, the most beautiful of all Arab capitals, Beirut, the massacres it committed in the Palestinian camps, and the artificial army it created in the south, Antoine Lahd and Saad Haddad and the Cedars" by splitting the one people and dividing it into sects, sects and battalions, all of this almost ended with the withdrawal of the last Israeli soldier or a single agent in May 2000 under the blows of the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance led by this party and this rebel sheikh without signing any agreement with this state that he said about At that time it is weaker than the spider's house.

The second is the poet Nizar Qabbani, who presented an intellectual analysis and a deep diagnosis of the defeat / setback, in the epic poem "Margins on the setback notebook", which has now passed fifty-six years, without the Arab regime going to read these margins, not even to open the notebook. So we saw them, instead of fighting Israel, going towards reconciliation with it, opening embassies, exchanging ambassadors and red carpets, and raising its flag flying in the air of our sky; Camp David, Oslo, Wadi Araba, the Abraham Accords, not to mention what is under the table in many of the remaining Arab capitals.

In the epic poem, Nizar mourns for us (the ancient language, the ancient books, and the end of the thought that led to defeat. Because we enter the war with all the talents of oratory that the oriental possesses, with the antagonisms that did not kill a fly, and with the logic of the drum and the rebab...). Then he reviewed our modern, distant and ancient history (five thousand years...and we are in the basement, our chins are long, our leads are unknown, our eyes are harbors for flies). Cultivate letters, pomegranates and grapes)... and stop at our gushing oil in the deserts (to turn into a dagger... from flames and fire... but... the nobles are ashamed of the Quraysh, shed under the feet of maidservants.. We make our dwarves heroes and our nobles scoundrels ... We improvise the championship... We sit in the mosques... We turn around... We are lazy, and we sharpen the victory over our enemy... From Him, the Almighty... Do not curse the sky if it abandons you... Do not curse the circumstances. God gives victory to whomever He wills, and there is no blacksmith with us... who makes swords).

revolutionary doctrine

The beauty of the marsh

The beauty of the marsh

Opinion Writer

In the doctrine of the revolutions, the sacred tripartite (land - gun - liberation) is the original link that forms the bonds and governs the relationship between the sons of the liberation revolutions. Through this tripartite position, a collective awareness is generated that carries important and common concepts such as: the concept of land as matter and subject, the concept of the homeland as an identity and a historical right The concept of the gun as a tool and a means, and the concept of the principle, the fixed goal and its changeable..and as a whole they are sacred in the liberation culture in its collective sense, as its activation directly results in the concept of "revolutionary brotherhood" or what is known as "the brotherhood of the gun" and this concept takes precedence over the concept of "brotherhood by blood and lineage". "With what it imposes of a clash between the individual's awareness of liberation and the culture of liberation in order to achieve a state of freedom and independence on the individual and collective (popular) levels, which are the basis for the idea of "man" as a free existence in this universe... Then the concept of "revolutionary brotherhood" imposes its progress on the concept of " Blood brotherhood "by virtue of the strong relationship that arises between the sons of the same revolution of different walks and nationalities, when they engage in one trench and unite as one body in the face of death, but one of them ransoms his brother himself and defends him from death with his chest and soul..! Then he does not leave him on the battlefield wounded, bleeding, nor a prisoner, bleeding patiently in his burdens..! This is what is supposed to be based on complete correctness in the essence of the thought of good and authentic revolutions, and everything that contradicts and contradicts this originality has deviated from the purity and integrity of the revolution and has been afflicted with an intellectual and mental leprosy that will inevitably result in schizophrenia and a gross defect in the aforementioned meanings.. It cannot be "Sincere revolutionary brotherhood" without willingness to sacrifice and sacrifice and to integrate the "self-ego" into the framework of the "collective ego", but more than that; The “self-ego” must be offered as a pure sacrifice on the altar of the “collective ego” if necessary and if necessity imposes its principles, and according to what is dictated by the constants and principles of the “sacred” ..!

This is what the people of the captive movement embodied in an actual way when they advanced on the fronts for the sake of the "holy" and faced death and captivity with their rebellious chests in order to preserve and defend the "collective ego" and defend it in order to enable it to move forward until the end of the journey..! They are fully confident and confident that this collective ego (the revolution) will remain pure and sincere in its work, thought, and tools until the end of the road, and there is no end except with the redemption and liberation of the "sacred" and it is in the case of our people (Palestine in its historical dress). There is no such thing as half a revolution, or what is known By resting a “revolutionary / revolution” .. This is nonsense, intellectual dementia, lack of vision, helplessness and paralysis of my currencies.. Whoever does this is like someone who shoots himself, or it is as Mao Zedong said: “Whoever makes half a revolution is like someone who is digging his own grave with his own hand.”

Then a revolution cannot fall into the trap of calculating “profit and loss” while it is at the height of its struggle. This is a trap of retreat and regression and then deviation from the path, and whoever falls into this trap will lose the most important elements and foundations of the real revolution (initiative, courage and redemption), without which there is no There is the so-called "revolution", and the revolution that adopts "hisba" as a principle and adopts it as a regulator of its actions and policies, it becomes a paper revolution that has no fangs and will have many programs and names and will be overwhelmed by the arguments of priorities, dualities and margins. She has, and this in itself is a toxic and dangerous scalpel that will tear her body and bleed her to the last drop of belonging!!

In the light of the foregoing, it is possible to understand the reality of the Palestinian revolution today and the rifts, divisions, and arduous turmoil that resulted in many of the principled papers and the disruption of its original foundations, to the point that the “sacred” became its consideration, until it was divided against itself in the essence of the “sacred” and its contents, and it became what is called its priorities. Vague and vague to the point of difficulty in defining it, and it is categorized in that, so what it declares “in words” it ignores in “actually and in deed.” An example of that is what is happening today in dealing with the issue of prisoners in the occupation prisons, who were the spearhead of its spear when the embers of its revolution and uprising ignited, and today they have become numbers and pictures stacked in the They are bound by long years of captivity, and they lose their lives and ages day after day, with the sword of waiting hanging over their necks for a lifeline that their revolution provides them with, which plunges them into the slumber of calculations and promises them freedom on the battlefield of political settlements, ignorant and deliberately blind to the origins of the revolutionary act that is carried out Generous freedom resulted for them, and he Basically, the sacred "brothers of the revolution or the comrades of the gun" who pushed them into the furnace of the revolution while they are confident that that sacred cannot be impure in the soul and spirit of the revolution, and that it will not abandon them in the event that they fall on the battlefield as captives, and it must do everything impossible Until you set them free..!!

The bottom line :

The revolution must awaken and carry out a conscious and responsible review of its actions and policies, and work with pure revolutionary professionalism towards the issue of prisoners, for this is the only thing that can bring about a radical change and correct the course, and thus it will result in a revolutionary liberation that leads to complete freedom.

Between Turkish and Arab elections

Walid Al-Hodali

Walid Al-Hodali

The word of the Tunisian spread: “We grew old before we saw this day.” He rejoiced at what was called at the time the Arab Spring. Unfortunately, this spring was assassinated, and it is no longer spring or even autumn. These Turkish elections and our situation, we Arabs, are not hidden from anyone.

Turkey, under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his party, I believe, has succeeded in implementing the saying that was the basis for the progress witnessed by Japan and that their emperor said and moved them from defeat and backwardness after World War II to the success that it is witnessing. Take away from the West and pass it on.”

Today, Erdogan is proving to the West that he was not a follower of it, but that he has surpassed it, and the Turkish model has become a global model and a registered trademark that no one can dispute about. Indeed, it was a wedding in which the Turkish government and people achieved free elections and chose their president in the correct democratic way.

In front of this beautiful Turkish civilized scene, the Arab stands in a deplorable state. What do we lack in order to do what the Turks did? There is a long distance between the Arab ruler winning by 99.99% and the Turkish president winning by 53%, which is exactly the distance between the Arab ballot box and the Turkish ballot box, between truth and illusion, between honest and faithful implementation and between "twisting and turning" and stealing the people's choice openly during the day.

We Arabs rejoice, bless, and hope when we see a country from our Islamic world succeed in the democratic experiment, especially this impressive success. At the same time, our gaze turns back to our failed experiences par excellence, and two questions remain hanging in our Arab skies: When and how do we reach what the Turks and other successful democratic experiments have reached? Shall we adopt this Japanese saying: “Take from the West and bypass it” or do we insist on absolute blind dependence, devoid of sovereignty and decision-making, as none of the enemy camp wants us to choose our rulers freely, then we will achieve complete independence from them, politically and economically, and thus our markets will not remain It is wide open to them, and our politics will not continue to revolve around them.

The word “overcome him” contains the secret, as it means competitiveness and entering the race out of self-esteem and making our successes with our own hands and in our correct contexts. This means liberation from dependency and real independence and freedom for our peoples, and thus the ability to hold free and fair elections.

Human civilization is a natural extension and it comes based on those who preceded us, for they took from us and built on what the Arab-Islamic civilization reached at the time of its prosperity, and today to take what they reached is a must and in it is a continuation of the required human civilizational rise, but it remains how we take what and from a starting point Subordination or from a position of sovereignty, freedom and independence?

Our Arab peoples want this and hope that this day will come, but they still do not take the required action and do not find anyone to lead them in this path that will save us from the power of totalitarian rule and failed dictatorships.

The head of the Jordanian state, King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, honored us with a generous dinner invitation, in honor of the wedding of Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah, with wide sectors of Jordanians, including ministers, deputies, notables, parties, trade unions, municipalities, civil society institutions, and personalities with presence from cities, rural areas, deserts and camps. With a distinguished, unique and historical presence in number and representation, and a high-level performance, vigor and mobilization, by the royal ceremonies that oversaw, organized and succeeded in this festive gathering on an occasion that will have expected benefits and repercussions, even after a while.

The official celebration was organized, but what increased its supremacy was the manifestations of the spontaneous popular celebrations that included unlimited Jordanian sectors, from all locations and governorates, which recorded a referendum on the regime, the royal family, and the prince, the crown prince, and its reflection on his political future as head of the Jordanian state.
Jordanians celebrated for two reasons:

First, they returned appreciation and thanks to the head of state for the security they had enjoyed over the past years, after the explosion of the Arab Spring in 2011, which turned into a devastating bloody fall that swept Syria, Iraq and Egypt in the Sinai, in addition to the suffering and pain of the Palestinian people and the continuous intermittent outburst against the occupation and the rise of victims. Jordanians are the suffering of our brothers around us, in light of the stability and security they enjoy, and the success of the Jordanian state in preventing the infiltration of any terrorist act from outside the borders into Jordan, and blocking the way for latent cells internally, and this provided the Jordanians with security, tranquility and stability, so their response was with this bias and appreciation to the head of the state , and his crown prince.

Second: Jordanians celebrated the Prince, the Crown Prince, betting on their future with him, while sensing his simplicity, delicacy, and closeness to them, to the people, as was his grandfather, as he inherited from him the spontaneity and sophistication of dealing with the other.

Abu Al-Hussein addressed his guests at the massive dinner party on the evening of Wednesday, May 31, with a direct, spontaneous speech. He was the father who celebrates his son and his firstborn, and celebrates his guests with sophistication and polite dignity that is not devoid of royal specifications mixed with simplicity and Jordanian Arab traditions. Despite his status as king and head of state, his eyes almost overflowed with tears. Successive stations, as he witnessed the steps that culminated in the marriage contract and the completion of the prince's "half of his religion," as his father, Abu Al-Hussein, the king and head of the Jordanian state, said.

Princess Rajwa will face the challenge in order to be truly a Jordanian princess, as befits her as the wife of the Crown Prince. She will assume multiple responsibilities, serving the Jordanians, whether through the Crown Prince Foundation or any other position she occupies and seeks.

The two Princesses Iman and Salma behaved with their brother’s bride with excessive affection that amazed the observers, by accompanying her and facilitating her walk in her wedding dress, in Raghadan Palace, and it seems that this was intentional or intended, otherwise it would have been possible to provide escorts for the bride, but the two princesses stayed with the bride and insisted on accompanying her, the opposite The royal family's desire to show them the accession of a new princess, will have an affair with their brother: the crown prince.

Indeed, it was a historical joy that Jordan witnessed, because our people and our people deserve that.

On the anniversary of the founding of the Liberation Organization.. Reality and responsibility before the national movement

Marwan Emile Tobasi

Marwan Emile Tobasi

Opinion Writer

Last week coincided with the anniversary of the founding of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the moral, political, and militant home of our Palestinian people and the address of its unity, which was launched after the convening of the first National Council in 1964, for which the national movement prepared in Jerusalem, because of the meanings of history that this capital city carries from the first Canaanites to the present day, and what it constitutes of A meaning that reflects its position, its political identity, and its cultural and civilizational heritage for us, the people of the owners of this land.

Long decades have passed since that date, although the sacrifices of our people within the framework of their national movement had begun thirty years earlier, since the Al-Buraq Revolution, whose first centennial anniversary is approaching a few years later.
Today, after 59 years of foundation, the question remains: Where are we now and where are we going? Do we really know what we want and strive to achieve it according to what we know? In front of the clarity of our enemy’s strategy of implementing a continuous colonial approach, procedures and crimes under a Zionist consensus and official support from the West, in an effort to achieve new realities on the ground and gradually impose them on the world.

There is an urgent need in this context to know more about ourselves, specifically in these circumstances. There is no need for attempts to rediscover the sphericity of the earth by some to know the extent of the criminality of this occupation now. Since when was there a non-criminal occupation throughout history from its beginnings until its collapse?

Whenever we see more possibilities and capabilities that may be in part latent and related to what we want to be today after this long struggle, the closer we will be to our reality and to achieving the goals we want for which the PLO was founded.

But now, with the necessity of evaluating the march and what is happening today with the approach of six decades, and this is a duty in terms of what is dictated to us by national responsibility and the necessity of intellectual renewal. Instead of looking ahead to see what's going on.

Looking at things with their variables is the origin of access to knowledge, truth and development. There are those who do not see history in its dynamic movement, and they want it to remain still in contradiction with the laws of nature and development. And there are those who do not see new mistakes that are repeated from the past. We have the ability not to repeat them and now commit them again.

Decades have passed in which our people presented convoys of martyrs, wounded, prisoners and deportees. Decades in which political conditions and Arab regimes changed, and the world witnessed great changes that led to a change in the polarity of the world order, a change of players in the international arena, the occupation of the remaining lands of historic Palestine in 1967, and the consequent conditions. Following the expansion of completing this settlement occupation as a colonial tool in the region with the aim of adapting it in line with the interests of the colonial West.

Postponing reaching national solutions to a number of the challenges before us, and dealing with attempts to impose the West's policies with what is called the conflict crisis management approach without its radical solution, which the West, led by successive US administrations, is pursuing until today, especially in these international conditions accelerating towards the ongoing international change, has We entered previously and will enter us today if they were able to succeed in their attempts again in a dark tunnel at the end of which it may be difficult to see the light in their desire to preserve what remains of their domination and protect the project of the colonial occupation state despite some verbal remarks from them that do not change the determinants of the relationship between them.

The accumulation of the necessary conditions of political movement by taking advantage of the ability of our people to stand firm in resisting challenges, and based on adherence to the need to completely end the settler occupation and the colonial apartheid regime as one outcome upon which any possible political negotiation path is based upon the development of the transition towards the multinational system, but under international auspices far from The biased and implicated American monopoly is the most important thing today in exchange for any pressures on the PLO that would turn the wheel of history back by accepting cosmetics here or there in the face of this colonial occupation through what is called “rebuilding trust” or “improving the living and economic conditions of the population” or “preserving based on the existing historical situation, which they have been trying to change since 1928.

Confronting this requires adhering to the vision of ending the occupation first as the beginning of the path towards what will take us later to the possibilities of peace, the steadfastness of our people and enabling them to live decently and our adherence to our land and the restoration of confidence between the base of the various components of society and the leadership and the adoption of measures that enhance democratic mechanisms and popular participation and its role as a source of powers and their separation, and the escalation of popular resistance In deed, not in word, which was approved by international laws for peoples subject to colonialism, and to work to disengage from the occupation in all its meanings, and to define the existing relationship with the occupation on the basis of contradiction and conflict, according to the decisions of the successive sessions of the Central Council of the PLO.

And this must be accompanied by expanding the base of our alliances with peoples, progressive forces, supporters of freedom, democracy and peace in the world, and countries advocating our national rights and issues of justice and peace, especially with the current transformations in world public opinion regarding the image of Israel today.

It is also important now to get close to the emerging economic blocs, especially with the beginnings of the emergence of the new international order, whose repercussions we are beginning to see in the region. Also, paying attention and working hard to the importance of strengthening our national unity within the framework of the PLO, whose youth base must be expanded from the new generation that has become unorganized in this stage, in addition to assimilating the trade union sectors and broad civil society institutions due to their role and the societal changes taking place, without limiting them to the national action factions on the importance of their militant role, although the programs of some of them have become calcified today and their effects in our society are declining. And the vitality in it as a moral unit in the absence of the state, and as a title for national liberation and democratic construction and the unification of its liberation discourse before the world, far from continuing the language of statements or holding the responsibility in front of the continuation of the daily crimes committed.

The Liberation Organization, which is targeted with its history and revolutionary heritage today, is before it was the only legitimate representative of our people in all its places of existence, and it enjoys this global status since Rabat and the Assembly of Nations when the immortal leader "Abu Ammar" carried the olive branch to it in one hand and the gun in the other, after which it reaped international recognition She is the leader of the struggle in the stage of national liberation until we reach the end of the occupation towards the right to self-determination, national independence, freedom, the return of our refugees, victims of the Nakba crime, in accordance with Resolution 194, and the release of prisoners and the bodies of martyrs from graves of numbers and refrigerators.

The Liberation Organization is the one who preserved the path of revolutionary national action with its progressive human dimension and our multiple and harmonious culture at the same time, and the dispute within the framework of unity.

It is the title that we must continue with as a unitary, democratic, militant, renewed and interactive framework in waging our battles on the various fronts, on the ground and in international forums, to present the occupying state as a criminal, racist, colonial regime that practices ethnic cleansing and does not seek peace.

Ashraf Sheikh Ibrahim.. chased and captive, then a fighter and a martyr

With chants and tears, the mother and family of Sheikh Ibrahim in the city of Jenin bid farewell to her entangled son, a colonel in the Palestinian General Intelligence Service, the martyr Ashraf Muhammad Amin Sheikh Ibrahim (38 years), one of the leaders of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and the liberated prisoner who had always wished for martyrdom, as his comrades say. That from the beginning of his life he fought and resisted for his country and to be a martyr.

Jenin, who wore mourning and strike mourning for her martyr, who grew up and lived there, among his family, since her return from the State of Kuwait, in which his father worked for many years.

The uncle of the martyr, Amin Nimr al-Sheikh Ibrahim, explained to Al-Quds.com that Ashraf is considered the fourth in his family. He was distinguished from a young age by his activity, effectiveness, love for his country and his patriotic spirit, explaining that while he was in school, he began his activity by participating in national marches and events. Al-Aqsa Intifada became a resistance fighter, so he was arrested twice, and he joined the General Intelligence Service and became a lieutenant colonel. like he said.

He added: "We do not have information about the circumstances of his injury and his martyrdom, but this is his share and destiny in life. Our Lord chose him as a martyr, and we ask Him Almighty to accept his martyrdom."

Since the announcement of his injury by the occupation bullets and then his martyrdom, and despite the sadness and anger, his comrades in captivity, arms and resistance did not stop him from talking about his heroism and courage in resisting the occupation, and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades went in a statement of Ashraf's obituary to declare that he is "one of its heroes, fighters and heroic fighters," which is confirmed by him His comrades who said, "He was not late for a battle or a confrontation, and whenever the occupation carried out an aggression against Jenin and the camp, he worked silently and secretly, because of his belief in the legitimate right of our people to resist the occupation, which he never feared."

And one of the friends went on to say, "He was with his courage and heroism, like someone who carries his soul on his palm, always at the forefront of the ranks, wearing a keffiyeh or a veil, and joining the ranks of the resistance fighters without revealing his face or knowing his identity."

And his comrades who lived with him the experience of struggle and resistance confirm that since the outbreak of the second Al-Aqsa Intifada, he joined the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in their prime of youth, and for his heroic role, toughness and courage, the occupation targeted him and chased him until he was arrested the first time when he was 18 years old, so he fought the battle of confrontation in the cellars of investigation, and ruled In prison for 6 years, he spent it steadfastly, giving, heroically and defiantly behind bars, and after he finished his sentence and was freed, and despite his affiliation with the General Intelligence Service, he did not stop for a moment from the struggle, so he resumed the march, and continued his struggle, to live the experience of detention again over the course of five years, as it was decided The occupation courts imprisoned him, so he once again joined the ranks of the captive movement, and formed a model for the heroism and sacrifices of the prisoners and their defense of their dignity and freedom.

As usual, his comrades, the resistance fighter Ashraf, narrate that when he heard of the occupation storming the city of Jenin, at dawn yesterday, he did not delay in performing his duty, drew his gun, and crept under the cover of darkness, between the alleys of Al-Marah and the Old City until he reached the Sibat neighborhood, and clashed with the occupation forces, which stormed the neighborhoods Jenin, reinforced by more than 50 military patrols, as part of its ongoing campaigns against Jenin and its camp.

And Omri, bye-bye, O groom, may God accept your testimony.

And she added, "May God have mercy on you, beloved of your mother, and unite us with you in the highest paradise. He asked for martyrdom and obtained it."

And the mother recounted that Ashraf sat with his little sister’s daughter, and asked her: “If you were martyred, would you cry for me?” He replied: Yes, so he asked her to kiss him immediately from now on. Today I realized the meaning of his words about the status and honor of the martyr. a martyr.”

When he carried the body of the resisting soldier, Ashraf, on his shoulders, his brother burst into tears, crying out, "Don't take him from us, keep him in the house, we don't want Ashraf to leave us." Then his walk crossed the streets of Jenin, amid popular and official farewells and military ceremonies, during which the martyr's comrades wept in mourning. For his loss, which no one will compensate.

His friend Abu Hussein, who lived with him during his detention, said, "People like him in heroism and manhood are rare during his arrest and after his freedom. He is a hero in every sense of the word. He is the Palestinian hero, the commando, the real commando, the committed, disciplined, generous soldier in his apparatus, and the knight who grabbed his gun at the moment of the attack, and fought until his last breath." We all lost it."

In his farewell, an atmosphere of pain prevailed and cries of grief rose over the soldier who tied the knot and celebrated his engagement only ten days before his martyrdom, joining the ranks of the martyrs, attached to the homeland's sky as a new moon and another groom wedding to the adored Palestine.

West Bank missiles worry "Israel"!

The attempt to launch a missile from a village in Tulkarm in the northern West Bank about two weeks ago was nothing but an early warning that ignited movement within the Israeli Shin Bet and the various security systems.

In the scenario of the series “Fauda” in the fourth part, which is an Israeli series of several parts that fictionalizes an Israeli war against Palestinian organizations, the Lebanese Hezbollah finances an armed cell in Jenin in order to manufacture missiles, and a number of them are thwarted before Israel is surprised by firing several missiles towards Various targets, which raised a state of anxiety, in that series, in which Shin Bet members were watching the dangerous security incident on giant screens.

This representative scenario may turn out to be a reality, which is what worries the Shin Bet and the security system, as mentioned in a report by the Hebrew Channel 12.

After the assassination of the leader of the Islamic Jihad, Tariq Ezzedine, a liberated prisoner from Jenin, deported to Gaza, and he was assassinated on the ninth of last May, the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, came out in a conference and revealed that a cell behind which Ezzedine was standing, which he recruited to manufacture missiles, had been thwarted. From Jenin, to launch them towards Israel, and he said that we will not allow Afula or Shked to be turned into a target for launching rockets from Jenin.

The Hebrew channel says that on the 18th of last April, a force of Dovdovan, paratroopers, and border guards entered the heart of the Jenin camp, and arrested 3 Islamic Jihad activists, they are Abd al-Karim Ibrahim Jaradat, his brother Ahmed, and their cousin Amjad Jaradat. .

Shalom Ben Hanan, a former senior officer in the Shin Bet, says that thwarting such an infrastructure takes place after receiving intelligence information from various sources, both human and technological.

The channel indicates that at that stage, integrated assassination operations were being planned in Gaza, even if at the expense of escalation, and in return work was being done to thwart any ability to carry out attacks from the West Bank, and the sudden opening strike was the important event in this story when it was carried out. Thwarting the entire leadership structure, who planned, financed and tried to transfer their experience from Gaza to the West Bank.

The channel recounted a long history of rocket fire from the West Bank, the first of which was in 1970 by launching two Katyusha rockets from the village of Battir near Jerusalem towards the city, which caused damage, and in 1971 it was launched from Deir Ballut near Ramallah towards Petah Tikva, killing 4 Israeli women. At that time, the cell was liquidated when it tried to flee towards Jordan.

Retired Major General Uzi Dayan, former deputy of the General Staff, says that this was part of the threats that Israel faced, and almost caused a change in the situation, and thanks to operational and technological intelligence, many attacks were thwarted, stressing the need to preserve intelligence capabilities and not rely on the Palestinian Authority In the "war on terror" or any other party, in order to thwart any similar threat.

During the beginning of the second intifada, which began in 2000, there were similar attempts from Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nablus. In Operation Defensive Shield, factories for producing missiles were destroyed in Nablus that were to be transferred to other governorates. The manufacture of missiles in Al-Yamoun was thwarted by a cell of the Qassam in 2005. Transferring 8 more missiles that year from Nablus to other areas.

The channel indicated that there were other attempts to manufacture rockets from Jenin and other areas in the northern West Bank, and there were also failed attempts to launch rockets that exploded in their place, all of which were primitive, noting that the last of them was a few days ago from Tulkarm, and it turned out that it was a rocket containing cardboard and fireworks.

Amos Gilad, the former head of the Political Security Department at the Ministry of the Army, and head of the research department at AMAN, says that the West Bank is the most sensitive area, and if rockets were launched towards Kfar Saba, Afula, or others, this would be the most dangerous event, and therefore the security apparatus counts for success. So far, it has prevented Palestinian organizations from possessing such weapons for decades, except in isolated cases, and they quickly failed.

Aloul stresses the importance of the role of popular resistance

Fatah deputy head Mahmoud Al-Aloul stressed the importance of the popular resistance's role in confronting the Israeli occupation's plans and escalating attacks.

This came during his visit to the village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, and the town of Burqa, northwest of Nablus, where he held meetings with the citizens, in the presence of the head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Moayad Shaaban, and a number of members of the Revolutionary Council of the "Fatah" movement, secretaries of the regions and regions, and movement cadres.

Al-Aloul conveyed to the citizens in the village of Al-Mughayyir and the town of Burqa, the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas, and his support for their response to the attacks of the Israeli occupier, army and settlers.

He pointed out that the settlers' permissibility to return and seize the lands of al-Mughayyir and Cyrenaica, the re-establishment of the "Homesh" settlement, their brutal attacks on the "Alon settlement road" and the establishment of pastoral settlement outposts, with the direct support of the Israeli extreme right-wing government, constitute a threat to our people and a violation of international laws, charters, norms and decisions. .

Al-Aloul considered that instead of stopping settlements and seizing lands, more crimes are being committed in full view of the world, in light of the policy of duplicity and double standards. This is something that our people will not be satisfied with, and they will confront it with popular resistance in all its forms, within their defense of themselves, the removal of settlement outposts on the road to liberation, and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Al-Aloul also stressed that our people, who are facing the occupier with their bare chests, will not allow them to continue their occupation, but will work to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy as we approach the gates of the fifty-sixth anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

For his part, Shaaban stressed the importance of Al-Aloul's visit to Cyrenaica and Al-Mughayer, within the framework of strengthening the steadfastness of citizens in the face of settlement and extremist settlers within the popular resistance, which was guaranteed by international norms and covenants, calling for the development of its tools and methods to stop and defeat the occupation's projects.

The people of al-Mughayyir and Cyrenaica affirmed, in several interventions during the meetings, their continued resistance to the occupation, praising the President's firm stances in confronting the occupation's projects.

US Secretary of State Blinken will go to Saudi Arabia

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will travel next week to Saudi Arabia, an ally of the United States with which relations are currently witnessing a sensitive stage, according to what the State Department announced Friday.

Blinken's visit to the Kingdom begins on the sixth of June and ends on the eighth of it, and it comes at a time when the two countries are leading mediation in Sudan without succeeding so far in imposing the commitment of several armistices between the two parties to the conflict.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Milner said in a statement that Blinken will discuss, during his talks with Saudi officials, "strategic cooperation" between the two countries on regional and bilateral issues.

On Wednesday, he will participate in a ministerial meeting to be held by the Gulf Cooperation Council, and on Thursday in a meeting of the international coalition to combat the Islamic State organization, to be held in Riyadh.

Blinken's visit comes a few weeks after a visit to the kingdom by US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, and about a year after a visit by US President Joe Biden in the summer of 2022, with mixed results.

Relations between Washington and Riyadh are very complex, as the Biden administration accuses the oil-rich Gulf kingdom of violating human rights and pushing to raise crude oil prices.

The case of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in his country's consulate in Istanbul in 2018 continues to weigh on relations, although the United States has largely turned the page.

Biden had called for a "reset" of relations with Saudi Arabia after the kingdom's decision last October to cut oil production.

However, the Saudi ally, to which Washington supplied large quantities of weapons, plays a fundamental role in the region, and American officials do not hide their desire for rapprochement with the Kingdom, despite the many differences.

It is expected that peace efforts in Yemen will occupy a large part of the talks that Biden will hold in Saudi Arabia, as well as efforts to normalize relations between the Kingdom and Israel within the framework of the Abrahamic Accords.

These agreements, which the administration of former President Donald Trump made great efforts to reach, allowed several Arab countries to normalize relations with the Hebrew state.

However, Riyadh requires recognition of a Palestinian state for normalization and requires the United States to provide security guarantees.

During a hearing before a congressional committee, Barbara Leaf, the senior official in the US State Department in charge of the Middle East file, acknowledged that there was a lot of "interaction" on this issue, noting a "gradual openness" between the Israelis and the Saudis, especially in the cultural and sports fields.

Yemen, the poorest country in the Arabian Peninsula, is witnessing a period of calm since a UN-brokered truce was reached in April 2022.

Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition in Yemen in support of the government in the face of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

Family expresses concerns over wounded Palestinian prisoner, Fatima Shaheen

Bethlehem - The family of the wounded prisoner, Fatima Ismail Shaheen, 33, from the Dheisheh refugee camp, south of Bethlehem, expressed her great concern for her life, as she is being held in very aggravated conditions.

Her father said in an interview with Al-Quds, "Fatima was arrested on April 17 at the Gush Etzion settlement roundabout, after the soldiers fired explosive bullets at her, and she was wounded in the abdomen, on charges of stabbing an Israeli settler, and as a result, she was transferred to the Israeli Tsha'ar Zedek Hospital. After a month, she was transferred to the infirmary of Ramla prison, which is notorious, and she still needs intensive treatment in order for her condition to become stable.”

Shaheen explained that, since her arrest, the occupation authorities have not allowed any of her family members to visit her, and have only allowed video calls on three occasions over the course of her detention, while she was lying in a bed in Sha’ar Tsedek Hospital.

On the first two occasions her parents only managed to see her for one minute. On the third, on her trial date of May 15, she told the judge of Ofer Military Court via Zoom that her condition is poor and that is exhausted, but the judge opted to extend her detention until July 5.

Shaheen underwent an operation to remove one of her kidneys and around half of her liver. She can only move in a wheelchair and her condition is still serious, which is a great source of concern for her family.

The lawyer told them: "She underwent physiotherapy and she moved her feet without being certain that the risk of disability had passed."

More than a month and a half after her arrest, Shaheen's family is appealing to all international and local human rights organizations to allow them to visit her, and to end the Israeli policy of medical negligence.

Shaheen has a four-and-a-half-year-old daughter. She graduated from Al-Quds University in Abu Dis in 2011 from the Faculty of Computer Science, and works in one of the institutions in her field.

Revealing the mission of the Mossad officer who drowned in Italy

The American Wall Street Journal reported, on Friday, that the Israeli Mossad officer who drowned in Italy was responsible for the special unit of secret contacts with foreign intelligence services.

The American newspaper quoted a former senior Israeli security official as saying that Erez Shimoni, a resident of Ashkelon, was killed after years of service in the Mossad.

He explained that his presence in Italy was natural, especially since he had direct relations with the intelligence agencies in the world, and had a major security role.

According to the American newspaper, the officer, despite his retirement, served as a reserve officer in the agency, and arrived in Italy with colleagues in the agency in cooperation with Italian intelligence.

It indicated, quoting the source, that there is continuous coordination and cooperation between the Israeli and Italian intelligence regarding the "war on terror" and the collection of information on the Iranian nuclear file.
