Algerian president calls for UN vote on granting Palestine full membership

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune yesterday called for a special session of the UN Assembly to vote on granting Palestine full membership to the organization.

In a speech, Tebboune told the 78th session of the UN General Assembly that Algeria renews its demand for holding an extraordinary General Assembly meeting to grant Palestine full membership into the UN.

He added that Algeria supports the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative to end the occupation of Palestinian territories, which is “a key factor in regional instability.”

Tebboune also called on the Security Council to issue a resolution protecting the two-state solution and ending the Israeli occupation.

Presently, Palestine’s status at the UN is that of a “non-member observer state,” which was upgraded from an “observer entity” in 2012.

However, for Palestine to achieve full UN membership, it needs approval from the UN Security Council, followed by a vote in the UN General Assembly.

Palestine applied for full UN membership in 2011 but failed to get the necessary support in the UN Security Council, which is dominated by the US-led occident states, Israel's key backers.

The president of Algeria renewed the demand for the “establishment of a new world order based on equality,” adding: “Reforms are also needed in the UN Security Council, which has been weak in fulfilling its duty to maintain international peace and security and in preventing the use of force.”

Palestine Premier: We need international support to overcome political and financial challenges

Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh said, “Palestine needs strong international support to overcome political and financial challenges, strengthen reform efforts, and advance development plans,” considering that investment in Palestine is an investment in peace and stability in the region.

This came in his speech during the AHLC donors’ meeting, today, Wednesday, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, which was chaired by Norwegian Foreign Minister Annekin Hoitfeldt, in the presence of foreign ministers and representatives of 30 countries and international institutions, and in the presence of Finance Minister Shukri Bishara.

The Prime Minister expressed his thanks to Norway, which hosted this meeting, and the international community that has supported Palestine, since the Oslo Accord, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of its signing.

He also welcomed the joint European-Arab effort to revive the Arab Peace Initiative, as well as the efforts of the United States to bring the parties to the table.

He said: "It is clear to all of us that the Oslo Agreement has evaporated in all aspects: security, political, legal and financial, as Israel violates the agreement every day with its illegal measures."

The Prime Minister called on the international community to protect the two-state solution through effective measures, recognizing the State of Palestine and approving its membership in the United Nations and international institutions, and enforcing international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2334, which explicitly prohibits trade in settlement goods and dealing with Settler institutions, and holding Israel accountable for its human rights violations.

He continued: "The Israeli government is systematically working to undermine the establishment of the Palestinian state and push the National Authority to the brink of collapse through its daily invasions of our villages, cities and camps, as it works to reoccupy the West Bank and accelerate the pace of building and expanding settlements."

He continued: "This Israeli government is inciting the Israelis to take up arms against the Palestinians, and since the beginning of this year, it has killed 241 Palestinians, and in Israeli prisons there are 5,200 Palestinian prisoners. It also keeps the bodies of 142 martyrs in refrigerators, and 256 other martyrs in the cemeteries of numbers."

He continued: "The Israeli government includes ministers accused of terrorist acts, and they cannot be considered partners in peace, neither for us nor for the international community, and the changes it is making to the Israeli judicial system will lead to accelerating the confiscation of lands and facilitating the killing of Palestinians."

He said: “These devastating measures, and many others, ignite open conflict within a contemporary apartheid regime, de jure and de facto.” Pointing out that demographics plays a role in this conflict, as today the number of Palestinians outnumbers Israeli Jews in historic Palestine.

He continued: "The Israeli government has caused a severe financial crisis. It is illegally withholding our money under false pretexts, in addition to uncontrolled deductions related to electricity, water and sewage bills."

He added: “The systematic piracy of Palestinian funds has now exceeded $800 million annually, exceeding our annual deficit by $200 million, which has affected our ability to fulfill our obligations and pay public sector salaries in full. At the same time, international aid has declined significantly, with From 30% of our budget to only 3%.”

The Prime Minister stressed: “Despite the great challenges, our commitment to serving our people remains steadfast. We adhere to our responsibilities towards them wherever they are, whether they are under the Israeli siege in the Gaza Strip, or under Israeli control in Area C and occupied Jerusalem, or in camps.” Refugees in Lebanon and Syria: We bear national and political responsibility towards our people, even when collecting taxes is not possible.”

The Prime Minister briefed the meeting on the significant progress made in implementing the reform agenda, as the Civil Service Law was amended, the electronic services system was implemented, the Penal Code criminalizing torture was issued, amendments were made to the tax system, medical referrals, and health insurance, and a new law for companies was issued in line with standards. International law, ICT law and the establishment of a new independent telecommunications regulatory body. The Prime Minister called on those gathered to make every effort to put pressure on Israel to enable us to hold elections in all parts of Palestine, including Jerusalem.

He said that the government is about to finalize the development plan for the years 2024-2029, which is based on a set of goals, which are strengthening the steadfastness of our people, gradually breaking away from the relationship of dependency with the occupation by expanding the production base of the Palestinian economy and diversifying the trade relationship, in addition to strengthening and improving services in public institutions. And strengthening the Palestinian narrative.

For his part, Finance Minister Shukri Bishara warned that Israeli economic practices exacerbate the authority’s financial crisis, as stopping monetary deductions will lead to revenue growth of more than $200 million annually.

He said: "If the Israeli authorities agree to transfer customs authority to us and give us approval to establish a network of customs warehouses, the expected increase in customs revenues will not be less than $300 million annually."

He noted that by transferring our share of crossing fees and all previous dues in this area, Palestinian revenues will be enhanced this year by approximately $200 million, and no less than $20 million annually.

He stated that if the Israeli authorities agree to impose Palestinian sovereignty in Area C and exercise our rights to build and operate, the economic benefit that will be generated will transform the Palestinian economy.

More than $11 billion for reconstruction after the Moroccan earthquake

Morocco announced on Wednesday that the expected budget for reconstruction after the devastating earthquake that struck the country two weeks ago is estimated at $11.7 billion, and will be allocated to a five-year program targeting more than 4 million people.

The Royal Court stated in a statement that the projected budget for the program for “reconstruction and general rehabilitation of areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake” is “estimated at 120 billion dirhams (about 11.7 billion dollars) over a period of five years.”

The statement, which was issued following a meeting chaired by the Moroccan king on the subject in Rabat, explained that the program targets 4.2 million people in six provinces, which were struck by the most violent earthquake of its kind in Morocco on the night of September 8, leaving about 3,000 dead.

This program includes, in its broad outlines, “re-housing the affected population, rebuilding housing and rehabilitating infrastructure,” in addition to “breaking isolation” and “accelerating the absorption of the social deficit” in the afflicted areas, most of which are remote villages that were already suffering from development problems, most of which are located In the High Atlas Mountains, amid rugged terrain, south of Marrakesh.

It is expected that this ambitious program will be funded from public finances as well as the special account that was opened for donations following the earthquake, as well as international support and cooperation, according to what the Royal Court statement added.

Last Thursday, Morocco announced that the program to rehome survivors includes, in an initial phase, about 50,000 homes, as well as urgent financial aid to families who lost their homes.

Zelensky to UN Security Council: Russian invasion is “criminal” and “unjustified”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday confronted Russia directly at the UN Security Council, saying that the invasion of his country was “criminal” and demanding that Moscow be stripped of its veto power.

For the first time since the Russian invasion in February 2022, Zelensky sat in his military uniform in the same room with a Russian official.

“Most of the world knows the truth about this war,” Zelensky said, as Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations sat in front of him. “It is a criminal and unjustified aggression by Russia against our country aimed at controlling Ukraine’s territory and resources.”

He called on the United Nations to strip Russia of its veto power in the Security Council, saying it was a fundamental reform that would at the same time strengthen the representation of the developing world -- where support for Ukraine has been lukewarm -- at the United Nations.

Zelensky said, “The presence of the veto in the hands of the aggressor is what pushed the United Nations into a dead end. ...

It is impossible to end war because all efforts are blocked by the aggressor or by those who condone the aggressor.”

He reiterated the Ukrainian position that the veto power belonged to the Soviet Union, one of the victors in World War II after which the United Nations was established, and not Russia under President Vladimir Putin.

“Unfortunately, this seat on the Security Council that Russia illegally occupies... has been seized by liars whose mission is to whitewash aggression and genocide,” Zelensky said.

But depriving Russia of the veto would be extremely difficult.

However, there is a precedent. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly stripped Taiwan of the veto power it enjoyed as China's representative, granting it instead to the communist government on the mainland.

But the tension began even before Zelensky spoke, when the Russian side expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision of Albania, which currently presides over the Security Council and is represented by Prime Minister Edi Rama, to allow the Ukrainian president to take the podium first.

Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia, who has repeatedly requested to speak to Rama, said that allowing Zelensky, a former comedian, to take the stage to speak first risks “undermining the authority of the Security Council” and turning it into a “one-man show.”

Rama responded to the Russian envoy calmly but with clear resentment, saying, “There is a solution. Stop the war, and President Zelensky will not take the stage.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke before Zelensky and strongly criticized Russia.

"The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which clearly violates the United Nations Charter and international law, exacerbates geopolitical tensions and divisions, threatens regional stability, increases the nuclear threat, and causes deep fissures in our increasingly multipolar world," he said.

Albania allowed 63 speakers to attend this session, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and American Anthony Blinken, who used the session to accuse Moscow of committing crimes against humanity in Ukraine.

He said in his speech, "Russia commits war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine on a daily basis."

Lavrov, a former ambassador to the United Nations and known for his harsh statements, arrived in New York late Tuesday, and Russian state media reported that his plane took a circuitous route to avoid European airspace.

This year, Russian President Vladimir Putin, who rarely goes to the United Nations, did not attend. He has been absent from other high-level diplomatic meetings this year as Western countries seek to isolate him, while he faces an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against him.

In his speech before the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Zelensky said that Russia's deportation of Ukrainian children, which led to the issuance of the warrant against Putin, constituted "genocide."

Zelensky pointed out that the war affected the interests of countries around the world, accusing Russia of using food and energy as “weapons,” including by halting arrangements supported by the United Nations that allowed Ukrainian grain shipments to pass safely through the Black Sea.

“For the first time in modern history, we have the opportunity to put an end to aggression based on the conditions of the country that was attacked,” Zelensky said in a speech that was met with applause from Western leaders but prompted others to leave the hall.

But some developing countries criticized the attention given to Ukraine, knowing that it received military aid from the United States alone worth about $43 billion.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, "It is a grave indictment of the international community that we are spending all this money on war while we cannot support the necessary action to cover the basic needs of billions of people."

Netanyahu to Biden: Agreement with Saudi Arabia can bring us closer to peace between Israelis and Palestinians

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the first time since his re-election last year, and said that they would discuss “difficult issues,” including “democratic values” and “the balance of powers.”

Biden, who met Netanyahu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York, said he hopes to meet with Netanyahu in Washington "by the end of the year."

Amid his concerns over Netanyahu's controversial judicial reform, Biden refrained from inviting the Israeli prime minister to the White House, and the two men met instead on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

For his part, Netanyahu informed the US President that reaching a “historic peace” agreement with Saudi Arabia was possible, in light of talk about Washington’s efforts to normalize relations between the two countries.

Netanyahu said, "Mr. President, I believe that under your leadership we can establish a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia," considering that this could go a "long way" toward achieving peace between the Palestinians and the Hebrew state.

Saudi Arabia has been stressing for many years that the normalization of its relations with Israel and its recognition of it depend on implementing the two-state solution with the Palestinians. The Kingdom did not join the Abraham Accords concluded in 2020, which were brokered by the United States, under which Israel established relations with the Kingdom’s neighbors, the UAE and Bahrain. Sudan and Morocco joined them.

Last week, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said one focus of the talks would be “the democratic values shared by the United States and Israel.”

However, the United States and Israel seem to be far apart recently, especially after the Democratic US President described Netanyahu's right-wing government as one of the most "extremist" governments in Israel's history.

Netanyahu's policies have caused tension in relations with the United States, the country's strongest ally, since his return to power after winning the legislative elections with the support of extreme right-wing parties in December.

The US President strongly criticized the judicial reform plan, which Netanyahu's opponents consider a threat to democracy in Israel and a step towards an illiberal, even authoritarian, path.

In July, Biden received in the Oval Office moderate Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who called for a reconsideration of the judicial reform proposed by the government.

Earlier this year, a dispute arose after Netanyahu said he had received an invitation to visit the White House, but the White House only then said that the two men would meet “in the United States.”

Relations witnessed further tension due to the continuing settlement expansion despite repeated calls by the United Nations to stop it.

But despite the tensions between Biden and Netanyahu, there is no tangible indication that the United States will ease its long-term support for the Hebrew state, which is its main ally in the Middle East.

It is possible that Biden will offer Saudi Arabia an ambitious security deal like the one he recently offered to Japan and South Korea, according to the New York Times.

On Monday, Netanyahu and billionaire Elon Musk discussed the dangers associated with artificial intelligence, Israeli politics, and content control on the “X” platform, during a live conversation on the social network owned by the owner of Tesla and SpaceX.

“I hope you can find the ability to put an end to anti-Semitism (via X) or reduce it as much as possible,” Netanyahu told Musk.

Egypt urge "Israel" to give priority to the path of calm in the Palestinian territories

Today, Wednesday, the Arab Republic of Egypt called on the Israeli authorities to give priority to the path of calm and to refrain from adopting policies of collective punishment in Palestinian towns and cities in a way that contributes to igniting a vicious circle of violence.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, most recently in the city of Jenin.

It considered that such attacks against the Palestinian people and their property violate the rules of international law and the decisions of international legitimacy, which stipulate the necessity of protecting civilians and preserving the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

European aid to Afghanistan worth 140 million euros focuses on women

The European Union announced on Wednesday that it will provide assistance worth 140 million euros to Afghanistan, dedicated to improving living conditions, especially for women and girls, after ensuring that they will benefit from it.

The Union had frozen this aid since last December after the decision of the Taliban authorities ruling the country to prevent Afghan women from working for non-governmental organizations.

The European Commission confirmed that it had verified during the past six months that international humanitarian aid was indeed finding its way to girls and women.

She stressed that European Union aid will be provided through United Nations humanitarian organizations, the World Bank and non-governmental organizations without passing through the Taliban authorities.

This aid is supposed to provide boys and girls in Afghanistan with a better education.

The Islamic Taliban movement, which returned to power in Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, prevented girls and women from education.

A European source pointed out that in some cases, international aid allows those to receive education in certain circumstances.

A European Union spokesman confirmed that the bloc adopted in February 2023 the principle of limiting aid to sectors and regions where women can work in distributing it and benefiting from it.

The Union hopes that this aid will also facilitate the return of Afghans who took refuge in neighboring countries to their country.

The amount of 140 million euros is part of a one-billion-euro aid program for the Afghan people approved by the European Union in August 2021.

Russian president Putin visits China next month at the invitation of Xi Jinping

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that he will visit China in October at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, in his first visit to this country since the conflict in Ukraine began in February 2022.

Putin expressed his "delight" to accept this invitation during a meeting in Russia with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to pictures broadcasted on Russian television.

The Kremlin had previously announced Putin's intention to visit China to participate in the "Belt and Road" forum, which includes international leaders.
Russia, which was sanctioned by the Occident over its attack on Ukraine, seeks to strengthen economic, military, energy and other sectors relations with Beijing.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced earlier that Vladimir Putin "will receive today (Wednesday) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is visiting Russia" for talks in St. Petersburg.

On Monday, Wang met his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

At the conclusion of their meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry praised the “similar” positions with Beijing regarding the United States and the conflict in Ukraine.

Relations between Moscow and Beijing have strengthened in recent years, especially in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which prompted Moscow to open up to Asia after the isolation imposed on it by the  Occident.

China and Russia are strategic allies that constantly describe their economic and military partnership and cooperation as “borderless.”

In August, Moscow and Beijing conducted joint naval exercises in the Pacific Ocean.

Mass marches for the funeral of the martyrs in the Jenin camp and city

Thousands of citizens mourned this afternoon, Wednesday, the bodies of the four martyrs who were shot dead by the occupation forces last night, during the aggression against the Jenin camp, during which 30 citizens were injured.

The funeral procession for the martyrs, Mahmoud Ali Nafi’ al-Saadi,  Mahmoud Khaled Ararawi, Raafat Omar Khamaysa, and Atta Musa, began in the village of Marka, from Ibn Sina Hospital in the city of Jenin, led by dozens of armed fighters from the military wings of the factions who carried the bodies of the martyrs on their graves.

In an interview with Al-Quds.com, the spokesman for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Abu Ayham, said: “The occupation is delusional if it believes that assassinations, killings, and aggression against the leaders of the resistance and our people will stop the march of resistance.”

He added, the failure of the occupation to reach the Commander-in-Chief of the Al-Aqsa Brigades, Muhammad Abu Al-Baha, confirms that the resistance is ready and will remain in the field, confronting the occupation and all its tools of suppression.

He stressed that the Jenin camp will remain a symbol of unity, struggle and steadfastness in the face of the occupation and its aides, stressing that the Al-Aqsa Brigades and all the resistance wings will remain united in the Jenin camp in the face of the occupation.

The special units carried out an operation in the Jenin camp targeting the commander-in-chief of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs, “Abu Al-Baha,” who survived the ambush while the occupation forces threatened his family to liquidate him if he did not surrender himself. Heartfelt, the Israeli aggression resulted in martyrs and wounded, while the occupation admitted that two patrols were damaged as a result of being targeted with locally manufactured resistance devices.

Google's Artificial Intelligence Tool is now Connected to Email, YouTube, and Maps

Google announced on Tuesday that its “Bard” program, based on artificial intelligence, can now connect to other services provided by the company, such as email, YouTube, and maps, in a new step within the technology companies’ race in this field.

A statement by the American group explained, “For example, if the user is planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, he can ask +Bard+ to collect dates that suit everyone in the Gmail email, search for flights and hotels, and check the distance between the destination and the airport in Google Maps.” And watching YouTube videos about the activities available there,” it added, adding that “all of this can happen in the same conversation.”

The giant Internet company has been working on creating artificial intelligence systems for years, but it was surprised by the success achieved by the “Chat GPT” program (created by Open AI) at the end of 2022 and the launch of the new “Bing” search engine from “Microsoft” in February.

At the same stage, Google launched “Bard,” which is a chat program capable of producing various types of texts (articles, advice, dialogues...) as soon as the user asks him to do so in a simple manner, similar to the way “ChatGPT” works.

The company indicated that the new tool, which was launched on Tuesday, called “Bard Extensions,” is also capable of extracting data from “Google Docs” and “Google Drive,” including documents in “PDF” format.

The new “Google It” click allows the user to compare the results provided by “Bard” with those found through the “Google” search engine for the same topic, and highlight any difference between the two results, if any.

Saudi and Houthi officials describe talks between them in Riyadh as “serious and positive”

Saudi and Houthi officials described the talks they held in Riyadh over a period of five days as “serious and positive,” expressing their optimism in the possibility of reaching a road map to put the Yemen war on the path to a solution, despite the failure to reach a clear agreement.

While the Houthi delegation was leaving Riyadh, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and the United States discussed the Yemeni conflict in New York on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly, stressing the need for cooperation to support peace efforts in the poorest countries of the Arabian Peninsula, which has been witnessing a war since 2014 between the Houthi rebels supported by Iran and government forces supported by Riyadh.

The Houthi delegation returned on Tuesday evening to Sanaa, which has been under rebel control for nine years, after a public visit to Saudi Arabia, which since March 2015 has led a military coalition that also includes the UAE, fighting alongside the Yemeni government forces.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it welcomed "the positive results of serious discussions regarding reaching a road map to support the peace process in Yemen."

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman said on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that he met with the Houthi delegation and stressed during the meeting “the Kingdom’s standing with Yemen and its brotherly people, and its keenness to encourage the Yemeni parties to sit at the dialogue table.”

He added, "We look forward to the serious discussions achieving their goals, and for the Yemeni parties to come together to speak out and be united."

The Houthis, for their part, said that the talks with Saudi officials, which took place under Omani mediation, were positive.

Member of the delegation and official spokesman for the Ansar Allah Movement, Muhammad Abdel Salam, said, “Our delegation, upon its arrival in Riyadh, held extensive meetings with the Saudi side.”

During these meetings, according to Abdel Salam, “some options and alternatives were discussed to overcome the issues of disagreement that occurred in the previous round,” referring to the visit of a Saudi delegation to Sana’a last April, adding, “We will submit them to the leadership for consultation.”

Ali Al-Qahum, a member of the movement's political bureau, said that a new round of talks would take place at a time he did not specify, after "the negotiations" in Saudi Arabia were "characterized by seriousness, positivity, and optimism in overcoming the stumbling blocks and complications in the humanitarian files and the disbursement of salaries and humanitarian treatments."

The US State Department also welcomed the talks in a statement, stressing that developing a road map to end the conflict “through a Yemeni-led political process under the auspices of the United Nations is of utmost importance to the United States.”

In New York, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed with his Saudi and Emirati counterparts “the urgent need for a permanent solution to the conflict in Yemen, and other priorities,” according to what the US Secretary wrote on the “X” platform.

He added, "Coordination with our partners regarding Yemen and regional challenges is crucial to achieving peace and stability."

The Emirates News Agency reported that the foreign ministers of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the United States stressed “the importance of close cooperation between the three countries and the Presidential Command Council in Yemen to enhance UN-led peace efforts.”

A Yemeni government official familiar with the content of the talks between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia told Agence France-Presse that the talks focused on the issue of paying the salaries of employees of the Houthi government, which is not recognized by the authority, and inaugurating new destinations from Sanaa Airport, which remained closed for years before the coalition allowed it to be opened last year. Its airspace is for planes flying to Jordan and Egypt.

It was also expected that the Houthis would discuss with Saudi officials the “final formula” for a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, after which the parties to the conflict would begin negotiations directly to reach a political solution under the auspices of the United Nations and with the support of Saudi Arabia and Oman.

The conflict in Yemen has caused the death and injury of hundreds of thousands and the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.

The intensity of the fighting decreased significantly after the UN-brokered ceasefire that entered into force in April 2022. This truce remains largely in effect even after it expired in October 2022.

But the humanitarian crisis in the poor country continues to worsen, with humanitarian aid declining due to lack of funding.

A tense meeting between Biden and Netanyahu is expected today

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden will meet on Wednesday for the first time since the former returned to power at the end of 2022, in a meeting that is expected to be dominated by an atmosphere of tension.

Amid his concerns over Netanyahu's controversial judicial reform, Biden declined to invite the Israeli prime minister to the White House, and the two men will instead meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting is expected to address the issue of normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has been stressing for many years that the normalization of its relations with Israel and its recognition of it depend on implementing the two-state solution with the Palestinians. The Kingdom did not join the Abraham Accords concluded in 2020, which were brokered by the United States and under which Israel established relations with the Kingdom’s neighbors, the UAE and Bahrain. Sudan and Morocco joined them.

Last week, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said one focus of the talks would be “the democratic values shared by the United States and Israel.”

However, the United States and Israel seem far apart recently, especially after the Democratic US President described Netanyahu's right-wing government as one of the most "extremist" governments in Israel's history.

On Wednesday, the two men will address the Biden administration's push for Israel and Saudi Arabia to normalize bilateral relations. Saudi Arabia has always refused to recognize Israel.

Sullivan noted that they will discuss "a vision for a more stable, prosperous and integrated region."

Biden is likely to offer Saudi Arabia an ambitious security deal like the one he recently offered to Japan and South Korea, according to the New York Times.

Biden and Netanyahu will also "compare notes on effectively confronting and deterring Iran," as the US administration is keen to confront Tehran's regional influence and its nuclear ambitions.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and billionaire Elon Musk discussed the risks associated with artificial intelligence, Israeli politics, and content control on the “X” platform, during a live conversation on the social networking site owned by the owner of Tesla and SpaceX.
“I hope you can find the ability to put an end to anti-Semitism (via X) or reduce it as much as possible,” Netanyahu told Musk.

The Prisoners' Club said that the total number of arrests documented since the beginning of this year amounted to more than (5,200) citizens, including more than (500) detainees in Jenin and its camp, which are subject to continuous aggression.

The Prisoner's Club stated, in a press statement today, Wednesday, that the highest rate of arrests was in the month of April 2023, when it amounted to more than (900) arrests, while the highest rate of arrests in Jenin was in the month of July. 2023, as the occupation forces carried out mass arrest campaigns during the aggression they carried out on Jenin and its camp, amounting to (151) cases.

He stressed that the occupation forces used all types of weapons and systematic policies to abuse detainees and their families, in addition to the field executions that we witness during arrest operations, and the increasing number of wounded detainees as a result of shooting operations during arrest campaigns.

The Prisoner's Club pointed out that the most targeted groups are the families of prisoners and martyrs, as the occupation continues to pursue the crime of collective punishment against them, which today constitutes the most prominent established crimes, and is used on a large scale, and may extend to the level of a town, a camp, or a city.

He pointed out that Israeli military apparatuses also significantly escalated the sabotage operations inside the homes of detainees and their families, and the sabotage operations extended to the camp level, as happened in the Jenin camp and Tulkarm. According to the families’ testimonies, the extent of the material losses in the homes is very large, as the occupation forces deliberately carry out Massive sabotage operations, with the aim of revenge, which also fall within the context of the crime of collective punishment.
