Israeli security establishment officials said on Wednesday that a new military operation in the Jenin refugee camp is "inevitable," but that the scale will likely be smaller than the invasion at the start of this month.
Quoting security sources, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that such an operation will last "a few hours," and will primarily aim to thwart the infrastructure of the armed cells.
The Israeli security establishment concedes that militants in the refugee camp have already began to restore their capacities, including gathering ammunition and producing explosive devices.
According to the newspaper, the Palestinian Authority's attempts to control the situation in Jenin and the refugee camp have not been enough, and Israel feels it cannot rely on them to quell the situation. The sources also emphasized that Israel is wary of undermining the PA further.
"Terrorism cannot be thwarted in one operation," the source said, adding that incursions must occur "from time to time."
