RIO DE JANEIRO (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Sunday officially announced his intention to run for a second term and appointed Walter Souza Braga Neto, former Brazilian Defense Minister, as his vice president.
Bolsonaro emphasized his role in the improvement of the agricultural sector and the growth of infrastructure with the construction of highways and railways.
According to the latest data released by polling center Datafolha in June, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took the lead with 47 percent of the vote, followed by Bolsonaro with 28 percent.
If no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the vote by Oct. 2, a second round of elections will be held on Oct. 30.
