Gaza Under Winter's Mercy: Rains Flood Displaced Persons' Camps and Worsen the Humanitarian Crisis

The bad weather and rainstorm that struck the Gaza Strip caused thousands of displaced persons' tents to flood, exacerbating the already difficult humanitarian situation. This disaster comes amid the continued Israeli siege of the Strip, which hinders the entry of basic relief materials.

Heavy rains have turned the tents into uninhabitable pools of water, adding to the suffering of the displaced, who already suffer from a severe shortage of basic necessities of life and lack the minimum requirements for a decent life.

Palestinian media published horrific photos and videos showing the extent of the suffering faced by the displaced, and illustrating how water flooded their tents. These scenes renew calls on the international community to pressure Israel to lift restrictions on the entry of relief materials, including tents and humanitarian aid necessary to alleviate the effects of the severe cold.

The Civil Defense in Gaza warned that the polar air depression threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands of displaced families, and called on the international community to intervene immediately to save the population suffering from a catastrophic humanitarian situation. The Civil Defense confirmed that the camps, shelters, and damaged buildings will be severely damaged due to heavy rains, which increases the risk of their collapse and endangers the lives of civilians.

The Civil Defense spokesman pointed out that the shelter camps located in low-lying areas will be completely flooded, which increases the difficulty of absorbing the increasing amounts of rainwater. He affirmed that the situation will be very difficult in the sector, which is suffering from the consequences of the systematic Israeli genocide and the collapse of infrastructure, and appealed to the international community to take urgent action to bring temporary housing to the sector to provide safe shelter for the displaced.

The Hamas movement called for the launch of an urgent relief operation to provide suitable shelters for the displaced, and the movement's spokesman confirmed that the current tents are unable to withstand the rain and winter cold, especially with the continued Israeli restrictions on the entry of fuel needed for heating.

The Hamas movement stressed the need to obligate Israel to implement the humanitarian relief protocols stipulated in the signed agreements, which guarantee facilitating the access of humanitarian aid to those in need in the Gaza Strip, and called on the international community to pressure Israel to lift the siege and allow the entry of relief materials urgently.

The Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip continues despite the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange, which was supposed to end the Israeli war that left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded. Israel continues to violate the agreement on a daily basis, which has led to the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of Palestinians. Israel prevents the entry of sufficient quantities of food and medicine into the besieged sector, which increases the suffering of the population living in tragic living conditions.
