This move comes at a time when U.S. allied countries are preparing to recognize a Palestinian state in a historic step that reflects a shift in positions within Washington.
Democratic members of the U.S. Senate introduced the first resolution of its kind on Thursday, urging the U.S. administration to recognize a Palestinian state, nearly two years after the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip.
This step, led by Senator Jeff Merkley, comes amid a noticeable change in the positions of several U.S. lawmakers regarding the need to increase pressure on the occupying government to end the war and alleviate the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The United States has a responsibility to lead, and now is the time for action.
