Tehran vows to respond to Ukraine's targeting of a commercial ship in the Caspian Sea

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that his country will not overlook the attack carried out by Ukrainian forces targeting an Iranian commercial ship in the waters of the Caspian Sea. Araghchi clarified that this aggression resulted in a violent explosion that led to the death of one crew member and the injury of another, emphasizing that Tehran reserves the right to respond to this violation that affected its commercial and navigational interests.

Within the framework of diplomatic moves, the Iranian minister revealed via the (X) platform that he held extensive contacts with the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, to inform them of the developments. Sources indicated that Araghchi considered the attack a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, warning of the repercussions of continuing such military operations targeting civilian targets in areas far from the traditional theater of operations.

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his condolences to Iran for the victim of the attack, praising the coordination between the two countries in providing assistance to the affected crew through local authorities in the Russian Astrakhan region. In a related context, previous reports had indicated that Ukrainian intelligence used long-range drones to target what it described as ships transporting military shipments, which Tehran completely denies, affirming its non-interference in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
