Statistics: 740,000 citizens out of 2.1 million are located in the northern Gaza Strip.

The Central Bureau of Statistics stated that the number of citizens residing in the northern Gaza Strip as of 2025/09/16 is approximately 740,000 individuals out of 2.1 million individuals living in the Strip; which represents 35% of its population.

The "Statistics" added in a statement issued today, Thursday, that this number is subject to decrease at any time due to the ongoing fierce assault and forced displacement.

It pointed out that these figures also reflect a tragic picture of the structural changes that have affected the population distribution within the Strip, as the northern areas have transformed from being one of the main population centers to a renewed displacement hotspot, amid the absence of security and the lack of basic humanitarian services.

The "Statistics" noted that the northern governorates, as of October 7, 2023, included approximately 749,000 individuals in Gaza City, and about 444,000 individuals in Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia. After January 2025, and with the return of some displaced individuals to their homes coinciding with the temporary ceasefire, estimates indicated the presence of more than one million residents/displaced individuals in densely populated tent areas, and in the remaining habitable buildings in the northern Strip.

It continued: Aerial images between September 4 and 15, 2025, showed that thousands of tents set up on empty lands among the ruins of Gaza City, along the coast, and in less developed areas in the north, have disappeared or significantly decreased in number.

Moreover, the large camps in the Sheikh Radwan, Beach, and Al-Rimal neighborhoods have almost vanished, reflecting the scale of the humanitarian disaster and exacerbating the displacement crisis. Despite some families' attempts to return to their original homes, the intensity of the attacks and ongoing invasion threats are pushing residents to be displaced again, making the population stability in the area extremely fragile and continuously changing.

The "Statistics" clarified that these estimates were based on actual data recorded before and during the aggression, in addition to supporting sources within the national statistical system, primarily Palestinian cellular communication companies, taking into account the severe instability affecting population movement.
