The Israeli opposition calls for the return of prisoners from Gaza.. "The war serves Netanyahu's survival"

The leader of the Israeli opposition party "Democrats," Yair Golan, called for the return of prisoners held by the occupation from the Gaza Strip and for an end to the war, which he indicated has become a means for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to maintain his position.

Golan stated in a post on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) on Friday: "The war has become a survival war for Netanyahu, instead of focusing on the return of the kidnapped (prisoners) and the security of Israel," commenting on a video clip published by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, showing the Israeli prisoner in Gaza, Guy Dallal Gilboa.

He added: "We must, and we are committed, to stopping this political war, and to bringing Guy and his 47 comrades back to their homes, and putting an end to their abandonment."

He further stated that Netanyahu's government "is trying to claim that this is a psychological war, but the survival of Guy Gilboa is heartbreaking and highlights the urgent need to bring everyone back," as he expressed.

For his part, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said: "The sign of life (the video of Gilboa) published this morning reminds us once again of the necessity for Israel to return to negotiations to bring back the kidnapped and to attempt to reach a deal."

Lapid added in a post on the platform "X": "We must do our utmost to bring them (the Israeli prisoners in Gaza) back to their homes."

In contrast, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he spoke by phone with the families of the prisoners Gilboa and Alon Ohel, expressing his support for them.

On Friday, the Al-Qassam Brigades published a video showing the Israeli prisoner Gilboa speaking from inside a car driving through the rubble of destroyed buildings in Gaza City, calling on Israelis to create chaos and rebellion against the government to pressure it into reaching a deal for his release.

Gilboa said in the video, which he claimed was recorded on August 28: "We will remain in Gaza City regardless of the anticipated Israeli army attack (at that time on Gaza), and this means that I and more than 8 Israeli citizens (prisoners) will die here," confirming that he has been living "a real nightmare" for more than 22 months in captivity.

He added: "We thought we were prisoners of Hamas, but the truth is that we are prisoners of Netanyahu and (National Security Minister Itamar) Ben Gvir and (Finance Minister Bezalel) Smotrich, who lie all the time and do not want us back."

Gilboa held the Israeli government responsible for the lives of the prisoners held by "Hamas" and the soldiers participating in the genocide being committed by Tel Aviv against the Palestinians.

On Wednesday, Hamas renewed its readiness to reach a comprehensive deal for the release of all Israeli prisoners in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, to end the war on Gaza, and to withdraw from the Strip, but Netanyahu rejected that in a statement from his office.

The occupation army launched on Wednesday an aggression named "Gideon's Chariots 2" to completely occupy Gaza City (north), which sparked criticism and protests in Israel, fearing for the lives of the prisoners and soldiers.

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while about 11,100 Palestinians are held in its prisons suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, many of whom have died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

With American support, the occupying state has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 64,300 martyrs and 162,005 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, over 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine that has killed 376 Palestinians, including 134 children.
