Gaza Health: More than 25% of the Strip's water is highly polluted.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned on Wednesday of a serious deterioration in the water and sanitation situation in the Strip, noting that more than 25% of water samples showed high levels of contamination, leading to the widespread spread of disease among citizens.

The ministry added that 90% of families suffer from water insecurity due to the lack of safe and clean drinking water sources. This situation worsens with the onset of summer and rising temperatures, which doubles the need for water.

The ministry noted that displacement camps are experiencing catastrophic conditions due to the lack of water sources, while 90% of desalination plants have completely shut down, exacerbating the water crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The ministry also warned that 80% of wastewater treatment plants have ceased operation, increasing seawater pollution and threatening the groundwater reservoir with contamination due to reliance on unsafe cesspits.

The ministry called for urgent action to save the sector from a worsening environmental and health disaster that threatens the lives of millions of people.
