The United Nations rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, said that Israel had exploited the "prisoners' issue" to legitimize the killing, wounding, mutilation, starvation and trauma of Palestinians in Gaza, and to intensify acts of violence in the rest of the occupied territories.
Albanese added in a post on the “X” platform, “Israel could have released the prisoners, alive and sound, 8 months ago, when the first ceasefire and prisoner exchange was put on the table. But Israel refused that in order to continue destroying Gaza and the Palestinians as a people.” .
She noted that this was clearly “a translation of genocidal intent into action.”
