New York Times: Smotrich informs settlers of efforts to change governance in the West Bank

The American New York Times reported, citing an audio recording of the Minister of Finance in the occupation government, Bezalel Smotrich, that he informed settlers of efforts to change governance in the West Bank without accusing his government of officially annexing it.

The American newspaper added that Smotrich said that the goal is to prevent the West Bank from becoming part of a Palestinian state.

Earlier, the leader of the opposition to the Israeli occupation, Yair Lapid, said, "Benjamin Netanyahu's government includes completely crazy people who are incapable of ruling anything."

Lapid added, in statements reported by the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on Thursday, that "the extremism of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Smotrich is dragging Tel Aviv into the realms of madness and disintegrating the government from within."

He pointed out that US President Joe Biden is helping Tel Aviv in an unprecedented way, while he considered that Netanyahu's accusation of Biden of delaying the arms shipment is "political madness to please the right."

The Foreign Ministry official for Israel and Palestine affairs resigned in protest against the Gaza war

On Friday afternoon, the Washington Post quoted three people as saying that a senior State Department official who was skeptical of the full “embracing” approach followed by US President Joe Biden’s administration toward the Israeli government resigned this week, in a setback for American diplomats who are seeking a greater break with the president. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right coalition.

Andrew Miller, deputy assistant secretary of state for Israeli-Palestinian affairs, told colleagues on Friday that he had decided to leave his job, citing his family and saying he rarely saw them as the eight-month-long war in Gaza grew increasingly consumed.

Miller told his colleagues that without these responsibilities, he would prefer to stay in his job and fight for what he believed in, including those areas in which he disagreed with administration policy.

Miller's resignation, which was not previously reported, comes amid growing frustration inside and outside government over the high number of Palestinian civilian deaths in the war and concerns among some that influence on policy matters is dominated by a narrow coterie of President Biden's closest advisers. Miller is the most senior American official to resign so far, and his portfolio focuses on Israeli-Palestinian issues.

Susan Maloney, vice president and director of foreign policy at the Brookings Institution, told the Washington Post: “His departure will be a loss for the administration in general and the State Department in particular,” noting that it is “a clear indication of the general toll that the war on Gaza has inflicted on those who were working to deal with it.” With the repercussions of the security war on the United States and its allies.”

People who know him describe Miller as a principled supporter of Palestinian rights and statehood, and a careful thinker on Middle East affairs. Before focusing his work on Israeli-Palestinian issues, he was senior policy advisor to the US ambassador to the United Nations, and during the Obama administration, he served as director of military issues for Egypt and Israel on the White House National Security Council.

“Andrew brings deep experience and a sharp perspective to the table every day,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller (as he is named). “Everyone here is sorry to see him go, but we wish him well in his next endeavors.”

Aaron David Miller (also eponymous), a Middle East expert who has advised both Democratic and Republican administrations, described Andrew Miller as a “smart” and “creative” diplomat, but said it had become difficult for officials in the Near East Bureau to The Ministry has influence on policy.

“He was a group of well-intentioned and capable Foreign Service officers who had little or no influence on American policy before and even after October 7,” Aaron Miller said.

Matthew Miller, a State Department spokesman, rejected that characterization of the office, noting that Secretary of State Antony Blinken has accompanied its leader, Barbara Leff, on all eight of his trips to the Middle East since October 7, and has relied on her extensively. It carries messages from him and the president to leaders throughout the region.

The Israeli war on Gaza led to the death of more than 37,000 Palestinians, according to local health authorities, and sparked a division among officials in the US government over the nature of the appropriate response to the Hamas attack (on 10/7/23).

Since the beginning of the war, Biden has given his full support to the Israelis, injecting weapons into the conflict and providing diplomatic and political cover in international institutions - even as Israel has used indiscriminate bombing tactics and obstructed humanitarian access. Despite this support, Netanyahu has repeatedly ignored US demands to take a more surgical approach in Gaza and refrain from exacerbating tensions with the Palestinians, such as withholding tax revenues and using inflammatory rhetoric.

Although the Gaza policy was deeply divisive in the US government, it only led to a few resignations at the State Department, the Pentagon, and other federal agencies. Ministry officials have recently been subjected to email campaigns encouraging protest resignations related to the dispute.

A US official who knows Andrew Miller told The Washington Post that he was “ahead of the curve” in recognizing the dangers of what became known as the administration’s “full embrace” strategy, referring to Biden physically embracing Netanyahu during a visit to Tel Aviv. In the days following the Hamas attack. Miller is said to have believed that the influence the United States had over Israel as its largest military, economic and political backer could have been used more effectively.

“He is certainly on the more progressive side of administration officials when it comes to the region, including Israel and Palestine, but he has never been the type to burn things down and abandon pragmatism,” the official said. “He has always advocated that the United States should support Palestinian rights and a Palestinian state, but his advocacy while in government has generally been calm and measured.”

Qatar: We are trying to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza “as quickly as possible”

Qatar said on Friday that it was trying to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and exchange prisoners “as soon as possible.”

This was stated by the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, during a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart, Jose Manuel Albarez, in Madrid, according to a broadcast carried by the Qatari Al Jazeera channel.

The Qatari Foreign Minister said: “We are trying to reach a ceasefire agreement as quickly as possible,” stressing that it is a “moral obligation.”

He added: "We are trying to reach a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement as quickly as possible."

He continued: "We count on our partners to exert all forms of pressure to achieve a ceasefire and start a political process."

With the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and the participation of the United States, Israel and Hamas have been conducting faltering indirect negotiations for months, while the Israeli war on Gaza has continued since October 7, 2023.

The Qatari official stressed that "an immediate ceasefire is the only way to reduce the escalation on all fronts."

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani heads the delegation of the State of Qatar at the opening of the first Qatari-Spanish strategic dialogue, which is being held today in Madrid, according to a statement by the Qatari Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

The dialogue aims to improve cooperation relations between the two friendly countries, especially in the fields of politics, defence, security, justice, trade, investment, education, culture and innovation.

It also discusses developments in regional and international issues, especially the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip, and the necessity of strengthening efforts aimed at an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid in a sustainable and unhindered manner to all areas of the Strip.

The Israeli war on Gaza, which enjoys absolute American support, left more than 123,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, putting Tel Aviv into international isolation and causing it to be prosecuted before the International Court of Justice.

Israel continues its war despite two UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the Rafah invasion, take measures to prevent acts of “genocide,” and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Mutual attacks between Hezbollah and Israel on the border

On Friday, Hezbollah announced the implementation of several military operations, some of which were assault marches on Israeli army positions, while the latter bombed towns in southern Lebanon, leading to a house fire.

The party said in a statement that it "carried out an air attack with a squadron of assault marches on the Ras al-Naqoura naval site, targeting the locations and settlements of enemy officers and soldiers, and hit its targets accurately."

It added, "The operation caused confirmed injuries and destroyed part of the site." ‏

The party stated in another statement that it launched "an air attack with a sweep march that targeted the Israeli enemy's artillery position in Zaoura and hit its target accurately." ‏

It explained that his members "targeted the sites of Ruwaisat Al-Qarn in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms and Al-Ramtha in the occupied Lebanese Kfar Shuba hills with missile weapons and hit them directly."

The party's fighters also targeted "the two sites of Al-Samaqa in the occupied Lebanese hills of Kafr Shuba and Zibdin in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms with missile weapons and hit them directly," according to a party statement.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli side on Hezbollah's statements until 13:55 (UTG).

For its part, the Lebanese News Agency reported that "the outskirts of the town of Naqoura in the western sector were exposed to hostile artillery shelling. The bombing targeted a house, causing fire to break out inside it."

The agency noted that "Israeli artillery shelling targeted the Hura area between Dermamas and Kafr Kila in southern Lebanon."

It indicated that the Israeli air force “raid with a drone in the morning on the town of Wazzani, and is now carrying out a sweep operation with machine guns towards the town.”

In the early hours of dawn, Israeli aircraft raided the towns of Deir Saryan and Rab Thaleen in the Marjayoun district, without causing casualties, according to the agency.

In recent weeks, the “Blue Line” separating Israel and Lebanon has witnessed a remarkable escalation, and the United States has repeatedly called for it to be contained.

Netanyahu attacks Biden again: American military aid is coming to us with a dropper

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu renewed his attack on the administration of US President Joe Biden, and said that US military aid is arriving to Israel by train.

“I raised this issue with Secretary of State (Anthony) Blinken,” Netanyahu told Punchbowl News. “And I said that our Defense Department officials told us that hardly any are coming.”

Netanyahu added: "Well, everything is in progress. We are doing everything to disentangle. To remove obstacles... Well, this is what I expect will happen. Let's make sure it happens, because it is something that must happen."

Netanyahu said in the interview that they "began to see that we are facing some big problems that emerged several months ago," explaining that he tried to resolve the issue during "many calm conversations."

He also claimed that the ratio of Palestinian civilians to militants killed by the Israeli army is “almost one to one,” adding: “People said we cannot enter Rafah because there will be tens of thousands of civilian casualties. Do you know how many civilian casualties there have been? The president told me Al-Arkan, using the word “dozens.” We killed about 600 terrorists in Gaza. Is it a little more than that? This percentage is still the lowest in the recorded urban war.

The American envoy, Amos Hockstein, informed the Israeli Prime Minister during a meeting, last Tuesday, that his statements that the United States was “withholding weapons and ammunition from Israel” were “unproductive and, most importantly, completely untrue,” a senior American official told the network. CNN.

American officials do not see a way forward to end the war in Gaza

Officials in the Biden administration are increasingly skeptical that Israel and Hamas will reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement under the current framework, according to four US officials familiar with the negotiations, Politico reported Thursday.

In response to a question directed to him by Al-Quds.com’s correspondent regarding what Politico attributed to the pessimism of American officials who do not see a path before them towards a ceasefire and an end to the war, Matthew Miller, the official spokesman for the State Department, said on Thursday that he does not know who They are these officials, and that the media “uses unknown sources to promote an idea or a rumor, but let me say that there is a clear path towards a ceasefire and ending the war, and that is in the hands of Hamas,” referring to the proposal made by US President Joe Biden on May 31. Last, the UN Security Council voted in favor of the proposal on June 10 with a majority of 14 votes, with Russia abstaining from voting.

The agreement, if approved, is supposed to be completed in three stages. The first phase halts fighting for six weeks, allowing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza, the release of hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners. In the second phase, Israel and Hamas are supposed to try to negotiate an end to all hostilities and the release of the remaining hostages. The reconstruction of Gaza will also take place in the third phase.

According to experts, both Israel and Hamas generally agree to the terms set out in the first phase, but are at odds over how to formally end the war, according to two officials, who, like the others, were granted anonymity to speak freely about the sensitive negotiations. Despite initial optimism about the deal, officials now believe these disagreements could upend the entire agreement.

One official told POLITICO that the second phase is “the sticking point.” “If the first phase could have been implemented alone without the complications of the second phase, it would have been completed by now.”

Hamas demands that Israel agree to a complete withdrawal from Gaza. But Israeli officials said that they would not agree to a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip until its forces completely dismantled Hamas - a goal stated by the Israeli army spokesman, Daniel Hagari, who considered that talk of annihilating Hamas is ashes of dust in the eyes of the Israeli public, which he considers Experts said it came to block attempts to hold the army fully responsible for failing to achieve the goals of the war.

“Hamas is an idea and a movement implanted in people’s hearts, and whoever thinks he can hide Hamas is wrong,” Hagari said. However, this confession, according to experts, results from the failure of the occupation army, armed with its most powerful war machines, in the face of the Palestinian resistance.

Hamas is not expected to sign any part of the deal until Israel agrees to its demands. In effect, Hamas has given an “all or nothing” ultimatum that Israel is unlikely to agree to. Neither side has shown signs of being willing to compromise, worrying Biden officials that the fighting will drag on for months longer.

“I think this will continue until at least the end of 2024,” one official told POLITICO.

This situation has frustrated humanitarian organizations, many of which have been briefed by the administration on the current negotiating status. They say they cannot effectively help Palestinian citizens of Gaza without a cessation of fighting, and that “a truce is the only way to ensure that people on the ground have continuous access to the food and medical aid they need.” “It's sorely needed,” Miller said.

A representative of one of the main relief organizations working in Gaza said: “The American administration is putting strong pressure on both Israel and Hamas to agree to the deal, but everything seems to be on hold at the moment.”

US officials estimate that even if Hamas and Israel reach an initial short-term ceasefire agreement, there is a high probability that this agreement will collapse. The ceasefire has a history of collapsing in Gaza during wartime, and both sides are firm on their terms for ending the war under the second phase of the deal.

The Biden administration has spent the past few weeks trying to broker an agreement between Israel and Hamas. Senior officials have traveled to Israel and Doha to try to reach a solution. They are now publicly blaming Hamas and holding it responsible for "creating obstacles to peace," according to Miller.

Hamas submitted amendments to the three-stage agreement. Jake Sullivan, the US President's National Security Advisor, said that some of these amendments are likely to be acceptable.

Officials did not clarify what specifically Israel agreed to, and how Hamas wants to change the details of the deal currently on the table. But officials are not optimistic that the two sides will be able to resolve their differences quickly.

Netanyahu: Only Israel can disarm Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believed that Israel alone could sustainably disarm the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a devastating war since last October.

He said in an interview with the American “Punchbull” news website published on Friday, about the day after the war in Gaza: “I believe that we will have to achieve sustainable disarmament, which only Israel can do.”

The Israeli Prime Minister added: "But I believe that there must be a civil administration (in the Gaza Strip), not only to undertake the distribution of humanitarian aid, but also to manage civil affairs (for the Palestinians)."

He continued: "This is what must be done, and I believe that the best way to do this is through cooperation with joint Arab sponsorship and assistance from Arab countries," without further details.

Netanyahu added: "The third thing is, of course, the process of de-extremism that will begin in schools and mosques to teach these people a different future from the future that requires the annihilation of Israel and the killing of every Jew on the face of the earth," as he claimed.

He added: "The fourth issue is reconstruction, which I believe the international community will largely assume responsibility for."

Netanyahu claimed that “the ratio of civilian casualties to militant deaths in Gaza is approximately one to one, which is the lowest ratio in modern urban wars,” as he put it.

He said: “In Fallujah and Mosul, and in many other places in Afghanistan and Iraq, intense urban battles resulted in human losses far greater than the one-to-one ratio,” he claimed.

The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, with absolute American support, left nearly 123,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens of children.

Regarding American support, Netanyahu said: “I greatly appreciate the support that President (Joe) Biden and the American administration gave us to our war efforts from the beginning.”

He added: "President Biden came here, sent two aircraft carrier groups, and gave us valuable assistance, ammunition and weapons since the beginning of the war. I appreciate that. I remain grateful."

He added, "We began to see that we had some significant problems that arose a few months ago. In fact, we tried, in many calm conversations between our officials and their American counterparts, and between the president and me, to try to resolve this supply shortage."

He added: "And we were not able to solve it, and this is extremely important. It is crucial to our common war goals of defeating Hamas and preventing the escalation in Lebanon into a full-fledged war that we have this supply. Because otherwise, it hinders Israel's ability to fight the war, which is an actual war of survival and a war." "Multiple fronts against Iran and its axis."

He continued: “I raised this issue with Secretary of State (Anthony) Blinken, and I told him that officials in the Ministry of Defense informed us that we would only get a little, and he said: Well, everything is in the process of implementation. We are doing everything we can to solve this problem.” .

He added: "And I told him (Blinken): Well, this is what I expect will happen. Let's make sure it happens. It must happen."

Netanyahu said that he "felt that raising this issue was very necessary after months of quiet talks that did not resolve the issue."

There was no immediate comment from the Hamas movement on the statements and allegations of the Israeli Prime Minister until 12:25 GMT.

To conclude a deal with the Hamas movement, Netanyahu insists on a temporary ceasefire, without ending the war or withdrawing from the Gaza Strip, while Hamas demands an end to the war, an Israeli withdrawal, the return of the displaced, intensification of relief, and the start of reconstruction within any prisoner exchange agreement.

With the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and the participation of the United States, Israel and Hamas have been conducting faltering indirect negotiations for months, while the Israeli war on Gaza has continued since October 7, 2023.

We are living through a moment of social and political upheaval - one that has somehow aligned the Houthi rebels in Yemen, South Africa’s greatest legal minds and students across the wealthiest campuses in the world.  They’re all fighting for Gaza, and against an increasingly isolated Israeli government and its Western backers. So are we witnessing a historic tipping point? Norman Finkelstein has documented the Israel-Palestine conflict for over 4 decades, with a particular focus on Israel’s actions in Gaza. As the son of Holocaust survivors, he became particularly critical of Israel’s use of history as a propaganda tool to shut down critique - something he documents in his book ‘The Holocaust Industry’. Since October 7, he’s been one of the most prolific voices speaking out - accusing Israel of carrying out a Genocide - and describing Gaza as a concentration camp. In this episode of The Big Picture podcast, we speak to him about the value of international law, the historic turning point in Palestinian advocacy and his view on Israel’s moral argument for its own existence.

Report: The Gaza war ignites the fire of disagreements and tension between the US administration and Netanyahu

The often complicated relationship between the White House and Benjamin Netanyahu is witnessing a new episode of tension, after the Israeli Prime Minister criticized the pace of US military aid deliveries.

The White House on Thursday considered Netanyahu’s statements this week regarding the delay in delivering US arms shipments to his country “insulting.”

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters, “Those statements were deeply disappointing and certainly insulting to us, given the amount of support we provide and will continue to provide.”

Netanyahu had stated in a video clip that although he appreciated American support during the Gaza war, “it is unreasonable that the American administration has withheld weapons and ammunition from Israel in the past few months.”

Netanyahu stressed on Thursday that his country needs American weapons in a “war for its existence,” in a direct response to the White House’s criticism of its complaints about the delay in delivering arms shipments.

Netanyahu said in a statement, “I am prepared to endure personal attacks on the condition that Israel receives from the United States the weapons it needs in a war (which it is waging) for its existence.”

Netanyahu is expected to arrive in Washington on July 24, in the midst of the presidential and legislative election campaign, to deliver a speech before Congress.

“No other country is doing more to help Israel defend itself against the threat of Hamas and other regional threats,” Kirby said.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday, “We really don’t know what he’s talking about.”

In turn, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller announced Thursday that “our commitment to Israel’s security is sacred.” We proved that not only with words but with actions.”

-Bombs-

The United States said that only one shipment to Israel of 2,000-pound (more than 900 kg) bombs was under review due to concerns about their use in crowded areas.

In separate statements, Kirby said that US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is scheduled to meet on Thursday with his Israeli counterpart, Tzachi Hanegbi, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer spoke with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

During this meeting, Blinken affirmed “the United States’ firm commitment to Israel’s security,” according to what his spokesman Matthew Miller said.

Miller added that the US Secretary of State also stressed “the importance of avoiding a new escalation in Lebanon” through “a diplomatic solution that allows the Israeli and Lebanese families who were displaced due to the exchange of fire on the border, to return to their homes.”

Washington is the main military supporter of Israel, but the White House expressed its dissatisfaction with the high number of civilian martyrs in Gaza, where the war has been continuing for more than eight months.

The White House's reaction on Thursday is not the first episode of tensions with the Israeli Prime Minister since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip on October 7.

US President Joe Biden does not hide his troubled relationship with Netanyahu. In particular, he publicly expressed his opposition to a massive ground offensive in Rafah, where more than a million civilians are trapped, and threatened to halt certain arms shipments to Israel if his warning was not heeded.

The war in Gaza represents a politically thorny issue for the 81-year-old Democrat, who is seeking to win a second term in November against his Republican rival, Donald Trump.

The ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged Palestinian Strip and the increasing human losses sparked strong criticism of the American president from the progressive camp and from voters of Arab origin.

Hebrew media: Netanyahu is working on Trump’s success against Biden to launch a devastating war on Lebanon..

In the wake of the deepening dispute and the exchange of offensive statements between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and officials in the White House, political sources, described as high-ranking in Tel Aviv, revealed that the American envoy to the region, Amos Hochstein, held a meeting during his recent visit to the entity with Netanyahu, which According to sources, she was very nervous.

The same sources stressed, according to what the Hebrew newspaper (Haaretz) reported on Friday, that Hockstein was very angry with Netanyahu because of the latter’s attack on the American administration led by Joe Biden, adding that Hockstein conveyed to him a stern message from the White House stating that his statements about American support for Israel Separated from reality.

At the same time, she also clarified that describing Netanyahu as ungrateful is the least that can be said about the actions of the Israeli Prime Minister, and quoted White House spokesman John Kirby, who is known for his strong support for Israel, as saying, “The video that Netanyahu filmed and broadcast is astonishing, astonishing, and disappointing.” “Strange, puzzling, incomprehensible, and confusing, I have no explanation for what the Israeli Prime Minister was thinking when he made his statement,” according to Kirby.

In addition to what was mentioned above, the newspaper revealed that Hockstein held a meeting with the leader of the opposition in the occupying state and head of the Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, in the latter’s office in the Israeli Knesset, where Hockstein “complained” to Lapid about Netanyahu’s actions and told his interlocutor that the United States of America Since October 7 of last year, it has sent weapons and aid worth $7.5 billion to the entity, according to what was reported from the same sources.

Over the years, American aid has helped Israel develop one of the best armies in the world, as this funding allows it to purchase the latest and most advanced military equipment from the United States.

For example, but not limited to, Israel purchased 50 F-35 fighter planes, which can be used in missile attacks, and Israel is still waiting for the delivery of 27 of them. The value of each of them is about one hundred million dollars.

Last year, Israel also purchased eight Boeing KC-46A (Pegasus) aircraft, in a deal worth $2.4 billion. They are aircraft capable of refueling other aircraft (such as the F-35) while in the air.

It is noteworthy that the aforementioned amount does not include the aid that was approved by former US President Barack Obama in 2016, at a value of 38 billion dollars for a period of 10 years, meaning that the occupying state receives every year an amount of 3.8 billion dollars, the vast majority of which is allocated for military purposes, and that this The agreement expires in 2026.

The sources also made it clear that Netanyahu is gambling with Israel and that he practically wants the success of Republican Donald Trump, President Biden’s rival, who is the most Zionist president in the history of the United States. However, Netanyahu is counting on Biden’s loss to Trump, in order to receive the green light from the president who may be elected to launch A large-scale and destructive war against Hezbollah and Lebanon, which could very quickly turn into a comprehensive regional war, in which Israel will be exposed to unprecedented destruction, as it will do according to its planning in Lebanon, according to what the Hebrew newspaper (Maariv) reported yesterday, Thursday, from a former advisor to Netanyahu, He requested that his name not be revealed, for fear that he would be attacked by the poison machine that works around the clock for Netanyahu in the media and on social media.

In response to the White House spokesman, Netanyahu said: “I am ready to tolerate personal attacks, on the condition that Israel receives from the United States the ammunition it needs in the war for its existence.”

Hebrew media reports indicated that Netanyahu's decision to go to a public confrontation with the Biden administration, in this regard, was contrary to the opinion of officials in the security establishment, and even the opinion of Defense Minister Yoav Galant, knowing that they believe that displaying the dispute in public would harm the image of Israeli deterrence, in the face of... The “Axis of Resistance,” and Hezbollah in particular.

Netanyahu came back and confirmed that “the Israeli army will not withdraw from Gaza before returning all the hostages and eliminating Hamas’ capabilities.” In parallel, tensions are rising between the political and security levels in the entity, especially between Netanyahu and the army leaders. The Wall Street Journal quoted retired Israeli General Yisrael Ziv as saying that “tensions between the army and Netanyahu have reached their highest levels,” noting that “the army has a feeling that Israel has exhausted the purpose of the war, considering that “we are close to completing the mission it set.” The government and we will reach a point where we engage in a guerrilla war,” he said.

The US Army announces the return of the floating dock to the shores of Gaza

The US Army announced that the day before yesterday, Wednesday, it had reinstalled the temporary floating pier on the shore of the Gaza Strip, and that humanitarian aid had entered the Strip through it.

The US Army Central Command (Centcom) said in a statement that trucks loaded with about 656 metric tons of humanitarian aid entered Gaza yesterday, Thursday, through the temporary dock, noting that this is considered the largest amount of aid to enter through it in one day.

It indicated in her statement that 4,160 metric tons of humanitarian aid had been delivered through the pier since its establishment.

It confirmed that the pier was moved to avoid the expected high waves and ensure the safety of its structure as well as the safety of its workers.

This comes a day after the Director of the US Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, acknowledged the difficulties facing the terminal, and confirmed that land crossings are less expensive and allow the continued flow of relief to the residents of the Strip.

The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported that the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) is seeking to return the pier to the shores of Gaza to refute reports that the pier will be closed earlier than expected, and it quoted an American official as saying that no deadline has yet been set for completing the pier’s mission.

The Israeli newspaper said that the pier was restored, but there is no organization responsible for distributing the humanitarian aid that entered through it.

Last Friday, the US Army Central Command announced that it had decided to temporarily move the pier from its location on the Gaza coast to the Israeli port of Ashdod again, due to what was said to be expectations of rising sea waves.

Centcom said in a statement at the time, “Today, due to expectations of high sea waves, the floating dock will be removed from its location in Gaza and moved again to Ashdod.”

It added, "We did not take the decision to temporarily move the dock lightly, but it is necessary to ensure that the temporary dock continues to provide aid to Gaza in the future."

On June 7, the US Central Command announced the reconstruction of the floating pier off the coast of Gaza designated for transporting limited amounts of aid to the besieged Strip, after its collapse “due to rough waves.”

The floating dock was opened on May 17, but it quickly collapsed after a week of operation due to the waves, and parts of it separated and reached the shore of the city of Ashdod.

Palestinian circles say that the purpose of establishing the floating dock is to “serve the hidden political interests” of Israel and the United States, contrary to what is portrayed by Washington and Tel Aviv as a “humanitarian step.”

Maariv: Gantz leads Netanyahu in opinion polls

An opinion poll published by the Israeli newspaper Maariv on Friday showed that 42% of Israelis prefer the leader of the opposition National Unity Party, Benny Gantz, to head the government if the elections were held today, compared to 35% who prefer Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while 23% said they do not have a specific opinion.

The poll indicated that if elections were held today, National Unity, led by Gantz, would obtain 23 (compared to 12 now) of the 120 Knesset seats, while Likud, led by Netanyahu, would obtain 22 seats (compared to 32 now).

The "There is a Future" party, headed by opposition leader Yair Lapid, gets 16 seats, while the right-wing opposition "Israel Our Home" party, headed by Avigdor Lieberman, gets 14 seats.

The National Unity Party has declined significantly in recent weeks after public opinion polls predicted it would win 40 seats at the beginning of this year.

The results indicated that if elections were held today, the anti-Netanyahu bloc would obtain 62 seats in the Knesset (Parliament), compared to 48 for the pro-Netanyahu camp, while the Arab representatives would obtain 10 seats.

It is necessary to obtain the confidence of at least 61 representatives in order to form a government.

There is no possibility of holding elections on the horizon after Netanyahu refused to hold elections in light of the war.

Maariv indicated that the poll conducted by the Lazar Institute included a sample of 510 Israelis and the margin of error was 4.4 percent.

It is noteworthy that Gantz resigned earlier this month from the war government in Israel, and accused Netanyahu of obstructing important strategic decisions for political considerations, calling on him to go to hold elections as soon as possible and form a national investigation committee.

Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 123,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, putting Tel Aviv into international isolation and causing it to be prosecuted before the International Court of Justice.

Hospital director in northern Gaza: A serious disaster and a deterioration in the health situation due to famine

The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Hossam Abu Safiya, warned today, Friday, of a serious humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza and northern governorates, as a result of the sharp deterioration in health conditions, due to the spread of epidemics and famine.

Abu Safiya said, "The situation in Gaza and the northern governorates is very bad, and we are working at the minimum in the health system in the absence of medical supplies, consumables, and medicines."

He added: "The specter of famine is sweeping the region again, and there is a lack of availability of foods with diverse nutritional values. What is available is only flour, which constitutes only one corner of the nutritional pyramid necessary for the human body."

Abu Safiya explained, "About 214 children arrived at the hospital within 14 days, showing signs of malnutrition, including more than 50 cases suffering from advanced malnutrition, and 6 cases in critical condition who are being treated in the intensive care department."

He continued: "These children live only on resuscitation solutions, and they do not have milk or special food, which poses a threat to their lives."

Abu Safiya reiterated that "the absence of medicines and health supplies hinders the process of providing basic services to the sick population," noting that what is available "is from the remainder of the Ministry of Health's stock."

He said about this: “No basic materials entered the northern Gaza Strip. What is available is only flour, which is not sufficient for the body structure of the elderly and pregnant women. What is required is foods that contain fats and proteins.”

In this context, he warned of the spread of diseases and epidemics in the Gaza and northern governorates, as a result of the accumulation of waste in the streets and the overflow of sewage.

He added: "The weakening of the population's immunity as a result of famine accelerates the spread of these diseases and epidemics, most notably hepatitis and intestinal infections."

He called on the countries of the world to "intervene to force Israel to open the crossings and enter essential materials into the Gaza and northern governorates and the rest of the Strip, and to save what can be saved."

World Refugee Day...a station for rebuilding lives

op-ed Al Quds dot com

op-ed Al Quds dot com

Opinion Writer

Yesterday, Thursday, the world commemorated World Refugee Day, which is a global day designated by the United Nations in honor of refugees around the world, and falls on June 20 of each year. This day highlights the determination and courage of people forced to flee their homelands to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is also an occasion to mobilize sympathy and understanding for their plight and acknowledge their determination to rebuild their lives.

Since World Refugee Day highlights the rights, needs and dreams of refugees, and helps mobilize political will and resources so that refugees can succeed and not just survive, it is important to protect and improve the lives of refugees every day, and it is necessary here to highlight the largest and most important refugee issue in the world. It is the story of the refugees of the Palestinian people as a result of the occupation and its expulsion of them from the Palestinian land to many countries in the diaspora, and Dr. Ola Awad, head of the Central Bureau of Statistics, did well when she reviewed the reality and statistics of the Palestinian refugees on this occasion to keep the issue of the Palestinian refugee and the story of his displacement fresh in the minds of those who try to always remember it. He forgets this strategic issue in our Palestinian history.

The Central Bureau of Statistics says that there are more than 6 million refugees registered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Palestine and the diaspora, and they are suffering from asylum as a result of their forced displacement from their lands during the Nakba of 1948.

Among the total refugees are about 2.5 million in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, or 42 percent of them (15 percent in the West Bank and 27 percent in the Gaza Strip), according to the statement.

The percentage of refugees in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip amounted to about 42.2 percent of the total Palestinian residents in 2017.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, “the number of Palestinian and Arab martyrs” since the Nakba in 1948 until today (inside and outside Palestine) exceeded “136 thousand martyrs.”

These numbers and many others are part of a necessary reminder of the importance of keeping the refugee issue before us on a daily basis, especially with the continuation of the brutal Israeli aggression that has deepened the wounds of the refugees and displaced people of Gaza and imposed a new displacement story on a large number of them.

The issue of the Palestinian refugees, on the occasion of commemorating World Refugee Day, calls for an influential and profound international and global stance to demand the return of the refugees who were expelled by the occupation from their homes, homes, villages and cities, so that this occasion becomes a practical station for rebuilding the lives of refugees in their homeland because they deserve this moral building towards the goal of freedom and independence.

Netanyahu responds to the White House's criticism after his statements about the delay in American weapons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he is willing to endure "personal attacks" against him in exchange for his country obtaining the weapons it needs in its "existential" war.

Netanyahu said Thursday, in a direct response to the White House's criticism of his complaints about the delayed delivery of weapons: "I am prepared to tolerate personal attacks on the condition that Israel receives from the United States the weapons it needs in a war (which it is waging) for its existence."

Earlier today, the White House considered Netanyahu's statements this week regarding the delay in delivering US arms shipments to his country "insulting."

Netanyahu had described the US administration’s refusal to stop supplying Israel with weapons and ammunition during the past two months as “unreasonable,” expressing his hope that the obstacles would be removed.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Tuesday that Washington is still reviewing the issue of sending a shipment of heavy bombs to Israel amid concerns that they could be used in densely populated areas.

In early May, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed the cessation of arms supplies to Israel, indicating that the talk was about a single batch of military aid.

Later, US President Joe Biden said in an interview with CNN that he would stop supplying Israel with aerial bombs and artillery shells if the military operation in the Gaza Strip expanded to the city of Rafah, and, according to him, this has not happened yet.

Biden stressed that the United States will nevertheless continue to supply Israel with air defense systems and other defensive weapons.

The German newspaper Bild, citing sources in Israel, reported on Monday that the United States intends to lift restrictions on arms supplies to Israel in the near future.

Netanyahu, Gantz, and the war cabinet

Nabil Amr

Nabil Amr

Opinion Writer

It is not known with certainty when Netanyahu’s reign in Israel will end. All estimates about his future are indicated by opinion polls, which still agree that he will inevitably leave. However, what weakens this conclusion is that it is based on “if.” That is, if the elections were held today, such and such would happen.

Netanyahu is not unaware of the opinion polls. He is immune to their negative impact on him, which he derives from the difficulty and perhaps impossibility of holding early elections as long as their decision is in his hands and in the hands of his coalition. Until the date of the regular elections comes, he has enough time and discretion to make decisions, enough for him to be optimistic about stopping the deterioration in his position. And bet on it again.

Netanyahu realizes that he needs something to convince voters to re-elect him, and therefore a mandatory path is to achieve convincing victories on the two main fronts that influence the Israeli mood and vote... the Gaza front and the southern Lebanon front.

The course of the war on Gaza did not provide him with clear justifications for achieving his absolute victory, but because this war is crucial for him, he has no choice but to prolong it. Perhaps it will produce reasonable opportunities for his absolute victory, which will not be complete unless the polls inform him that he has returned to occupying his previous position, not in his capacity. As president of a parliamentary majority, but rather as a crowned king and savior of Israel.

So... he is forced to take risks and gamble. This is the case when a man leads the battle for his existence and destiny.

As for the war in southern Lebanon, where “Hezbollah hostages” are pressuring it to free them from what they are in, and what I mean by “Hezbollah hostages” are the residents of border towns and settlements who have been displaced to distant places and continue to scream asking to return to their homes, and Netanyahu realizes how much they are. The bill to make them feel absolutely safe is high, as it is either a political settlement that permanently eliminates the danger lurking on the northern border, or a war that requires America to agree to it or to be involved in one way or another, and because Netanyahu is fighting a war of survival and fate, he has no objection if he is not convinced to get involved.

He did this when he took the initiative to destroy the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which brought matters to the brink of war. Had it not been for Iranian discipline and the direct tripartite intervention of the United States, France, and Britain, the cards would have been mixed up in a way that Netanyahu believes is the first and perhaps the last beneficiary of it, and even now, despite the visits of the American and French envoys and their tireless efforts. There are not sufficient guarantees that the game will not develop beyond its controlled borders, and Netanyahu has the detonator in his hand, and Hezbollah and Iran have the size of the response in their hands.

The last thing that did the story of Gantz and Eisenkot. He brought them in the first days of the war not to benefit from their experiences as two generals who actually led the Israeli army, but rather as an indispensable “decoration” to show his leadership of the war as if it were a joint effort between him and his opponents.

He brought the two men to the war cabin, only to discover after a long experience that they were losers in the game of intelligence. They provided cover for him without providing them with participation, until their early exit became a dilemma. As for their late exit, which took place, it was like removing the decorations from the walls so that the war cabin was still with them. .

Netanyahu is an extremely complex dilemma, and an extremely dangerous one as well. During his reign, and especially in his current term, he is still achieving his plans without serious obstacles. He has obtained from the Americans the greatest political, armed, and financial support without being affected by the thin veneer that enveloped this support, which is embodied... By exaggerating in showing differences with him, and now he is preparing for a valuable visit to Washington, preceded by Congress’ approval of the largest aircraft deal concluded with Israel, it is no longer important for Netanyahu to drink coffee in the Oval Office, as Congress’s speech and its deals and what comes before and after are enough for him.

Netanyahu realizes that he needs something to convince voters to re-elect him, and therefore a mandatory path is to achieve convincing victories on the two main fronts that influence the Israeli mood and vote... the Gaza front and the southern Lebanon front.

New York: Demonstrators demand that Maersk sever its relationship with Israel

Hundreds of activists in New York City participated in a demonstration calling on the giant Danish shipping company, Maersk, to sever its relationship with the occupying state, under the slogan (MASK OFF MAERSK).

Activists believe that the company is complicit in the transfer of weapons from the United States to Israel, making it an important link in the arms supply chain, and that targeting the company will directly disrupt the flow of weapons in the supply chain used in the genocide against the Palestinians.

In the same context, activists raised a banner in front of Grand Central Station to draw attention to what Maersk is doing.

Activists and student movements had launched a campaign across the United States to call for the severing of Maersk's relations with the occupying state, during which banners were raised on the main bridges linking many American cities.

Blinken calls on Israel to avoid escalation with Hezbollah

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed to Israeli officials the importance of avoiding further escalation with Lebanese Hezbollah, and called for an increase in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

A US State Department statement said that Blinken held discussions yesterday, Thursday, with an Israeli delegation consisting of Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.

The statement explained that Blinken stressed to the Israeli delegation the importance of avoiding further escalation with Hezbollah and reaching a diplomatic solution between the two parties.

Earlier yesterday, CNN quoted American officials as saying that Israel had informed Washington of its plans to transfer resources to the north in preparation for a possible attack on Hezbollah.

The officials added that "the repercussions of a large-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah would be devastating," noting that the possibility of this scenario being materialized is increasing in light of the fading chances of reaching an agreement between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip.

They also pointed out that Israel informed Washington of its fears that the Iron Dome system would be subjected to large-scale attacks by Hezbollah.

It is noteworthy that Israel's threats to launch a large-scale military operation in Lebanon have escalated recently, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said - earlier this month - that the army is ready for an intensive operation in Lebanon if necessary, pledging to restore security to Israel's northern borders.

Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz also vowed to eliminate Hezbollah in the event of an “all-out war” breaking out, and last Tuesday, the Israeli army announced its approval of operational plans to carry out an attack in Lebanon.

On the other hand, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah said - in a speech the day before yesterday, Wednesday - that “the possibility of sliding into a major war is possible at any moment, even though the party does not want a comprehensive war,” stressing that “if war is imposed on Lebanon, the resistance will fight.” Without controls, without rules, and without a ceiling, there will be no place in the entity (Israel) that is immune from our missiles.”

Gaza strip

On the other hand, the US State Department statement said that Blinken discussed with the Israeli delegation yesterday, Thursday, the ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and release prisoners.

The statement stated that Blinken stressed the need to take additional steps to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, and plan for the post-war phase and reconstruction of the Strip.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Thursday that reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza would contribute to reducing the escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Miller stressed that America continues to work with Qatar, Egypt and Israel to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

UN: Families in Gaza eat one meal every two or three days

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that a number of families in the southern Gaza Strip eat one meal every two or three days, while other families depend on sharing food with each other.

This came in press statements by United Nations Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq, according to what was reported by the United Nations News website.

The United Nations Office explained that hundreds of thousands of displaced people in southern Gaza suffer from poor access to shelter, health care, food, water and sanitation.

He added that from June 7 to 14, the office conducted humanitarian assessments in the displacement sites of Deir al-Balah, Khan Yunis, and the Al-Mawasi area in Rafah, and found that people were living in tents in temporary, overcrowded shelters.

He pointed out that these shelters are in urgent need of repair, and do not provide any protection from extreme heat.

The office also explained that access to water is very low, and people are forced to stand in queues for long hours to obtain it, and are forced to rely on seawater for domestic use.

The UN office stated that there is a continuous spread of infectious diseases in light of the overflow of sewage, the spread of insects, rodents and snakes, and the almost complete lack of hygiene materials and sanitation facilities.

The office said that many families reported that they eat only one meal every day, and some eat one meal every two or three days, and they mostly rely on bread, sharing food with other families, and rationing stocks.

He explained that access restrictions continued to seriously undermine the delivery of essential humanitarian aid and services throughout Gaza.

The Deputy Spokesman for the United Nations stressed that humanitarian operations in Gaza must be fully facilitated and all obstacles removed.

For the 259th day... Israel continues its war on Gaza, leaving dead and wounded

The Israeli occupation army continues its war on the Gaza Strip for the 259th day, leaving many dead and wounded.

Two citizens were killed and 12 others were injured as a result of the occupation aircraft bombing a house in the Nuseirat camp, and a number of others were injured as a result of tanks shelling sites in the Maghazi and Bureij camps.

In the city of Deir al-Balah, a citizen was killed and others were injured as a result of an occupation raid that targeted the city.

Eight citizens were killed and others were injured in a raid launched by the occupation air force on a house in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, yesterday evening, Thursday, and they were transferred to the Arab National “Baptist” Hospital in the city.

A number of citizens were injured, at dawn today, in raids by Israeli occupation aircraft that targeted two homes in the Al-Tuffah and Al-Shujaiya neighborhoods, east of Gaza City. They were subsequently transferred to the Baptist Hospital in the city.

Ambulance and rescue crews recovered the bodies of three children and their mother from the Al-Rai family, from under the rubble of their house, which was bombed by the occupation two days ago in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.

The occupation army blew up residential buildings in the Saudi neighborhood, west of the city of Rafah, and the occupation artillery bombed the northern areas of the Nuseirat camp in the center of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the occupation tanks firing at the eastern areas of the city of Khan Yunis.
