Two Injured in Settlers Attacks in Al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah

Today, Saturday, two citizens sustained bruises, following an attack by settlers on shepherds in the village of Al-Mughair, east of Ramallah.

Local sources said that a group of settlers attacked shepherds in the "Al-Qaboun" area, east of the village, and severely beat them with sticks, injuring two of them with bruises.

It is noteworthy that settlers established about two months ago a new settlement outpost on the lands of the village in the "Al-Qaboun" area, and that area witnesses repeated attacks by settlers against citizens and shepherds, under the protection of the Israeli occupation army.

Report: Settlers and Their Rabbis Dictate Israeli Policies in West Bank

The National Bureau for Land Defense and Settlement Resistance warned of the repercussions of the settlers and their rabbis strengthening their positions in the occupation army and their policy agents in the West Bank.

He pointed out in this regard that, in an unusual precedent, the former deputy head of the Mossad and the former commander of the Northern Command of the occupation army, Major General Amiram Levin, said in a press statement that the Israeli army is an accomplice in war crimes through profound transformations taking place in its ranks that are reminiscent of transformations It took place in Nazi Germany. Levin meant by this the increasing numbers of settlers in the Israeli army and the transformation of their leaders into central ministers in the current government.

These statements of Amiram Levin opened the doors to the position that the settlers have come to occupy in the occupation army, especially after the events witnessed in particular by the towns of Huwwara, Turmus Ayya, Umm Safa and Burqa in the Nablus and Ramallah-Al-Bireh governorates in the past few weeks, from acts of bullying. And the burning of property and the seizure of the lands of Palestinian citizens through the deployment of settlement outposts and so-called pastoral settlements and the displacement of Bedouin communities from their areas. These events have come to indicate the nature of the relationship between these settlers and the occupation army, as it has become clear that the army is functionally subordinate to the General Staff and the so-called Central Region Command. However, in the practical implementation of its tasks, it is subject, according to many Israeli estimates, to the settlers and their rabbis due to the enrollment of large numbers of settlers in the occupation army and their increasing influence in security services that are no longer subject to the army’s command, as before. On the one hand, there is the regular army and the Central Region Command, which reports directly to the General Staff, and on the other hand, there is the so-called “police army,” which consists of several security agencies that operate in parallel, individually and integrated at the same time within the West Bank, and includes the police, border guards, and security forces. Responsible protection for the perimeter of the settlements. These are forces present at the level of the settlement, or the settlement council, and are not directly affiliated with the army, but rather to the settlement council.

However, the most dangerous formations operating in the West Bank are the “Judea and Samaria” Division, which was established in 1988 to suppress the Stone Intifada, which began at the end of 1987, and the “Kfir Brigade,” which was founded in 2005. Their number reaches 13 battalions and works with other reserve battalions. In the West Bank with dual missions, brutal suppression of Palestinians and protection of settlers. The Judea and Samaria Division, led by Brigadier General Avi Plaut, is the division that directs most of the military activities in the West Bank. This band, according to specialized Israeli estimates, is slowly turning into a band of settlers, who describe Balut as one of their group. How could he not, when he grew up in the “Neve Tzuf” settlement, north of Ramallah, and was educated at the “Eli” religious school, south of Nablus. The Philistines here are the Amalekites of the myths of the books of the Torah.

The Kfir Brigade, which is also very close to the settlers, is an army brigade that includes six battalions in its ranks, distributed throughout the various governorates of the West Bank. In theory, this brigade is subordinate to the army command and staff, but in practice matters are more complicated due to the overlapping relationships between the brigade and the settlers, such that the influence of the settlers is much greater than the influence of the general staff, especially since most of the brigade’s bases are spread either within the settlements or in their vicinity, and thus the soldiers and officers carry out daily interaction. With the settlers, they spend the night with them and celebrate their occasions, as confirmed by wide Israeli circles. Elor Azaria, who in 2016 shot Palestinian citizen Abdel Fattah Al-Sharif while he was wounded and lying on the ground, is a member of this brigade.

Paramilitary formations

Paramilitary formations (militias) affiliated with the settlers overlap with the Kfir Brigade, as is the case with the so-called “settlement readiness row,” which is a military group made up of residents of each settlement, whose function is to build semi-regular military cells that undertake army work in the period of time that It takes place between the occurrence of a security incident in the vicinity of the settlement and the arrival of the regular army forces to the place. In addition, most of the soldiers and officers of the Kfir Brigade working in the West Bank are graduates of preparatory military colleges operating in the settlements, or they joined the army after recruitment campaigns carried out by the settlements to supplement the army with soldiers from the settler community. Indeed, under the guidance of the settler community and their rabbis, settlers are increasingly seeking to join the army. Of every five towns that had the highest rates of recruitment into combat units, three were in the West Bank. Beit El's first base was in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, where 86% of men born in 1991 served in combat units. Third place went to Ephrata in Gush Etzion in the Bethlehem Governorate, where 81% of men born in 1991 joined combat units. The fourth place went to the Regional Council of Mount Hebron, with a rate of 78.4%. Ariel in Salfit Governorate, which is considered a secular settlement with questionable Jewish residents, was one of four cities in which the percentage of recruits exceeded 90%.

Political and spiritual references

These settlers have political references led by religious Zionist leaders who are imbued with an extremist biblical ideological spirit, such as Bezalel Smotrich, Itamar Ben Gvir, and other members of the government and the Knesset, who constitute about 12 percent of its total members, which number 120 members. In addition to political references, there are also spiritual references, with quite a few rabbinic leaders, most notably Rabbi Haim Druckman, one of the most prominent religious and spiritual authorities (he died in December 2022), and Rabbi Dov Lior, the chief rabbi of the Kiryat Arba settlement, who was granted by the Regional Council of Settlements in In the south of the Hebron Governorate, a certificate of appreciation for his extremist positions and Rabbi Isaac Geisenberg, who runs the “Od Yosef Chai” school in the “Yitzhar” settlement, and Rabbi Zalman Melamed - one of the most senior rabbis of religious Zionism - who incited his students in the “Kernei Shomron” settlement to steal the olive crop from the Palestinians. He issued a fatwa permitting the poisoning of wells from which Palestinians drink, and other rabbis, such as Eliezer Rabinovich, Shlomo Aviner, and the Chief Rabbi of Samaria, Elyakim Levanon, who permit the terrorist “Hill Youth” and “Price Tag” hooligans to violate the sanctity of the Sabbath, occupy crossroads, engage in orgies, and attack Palestinian citizens. .

The influence of these rabbis is clear. A study prepared by the Department of Social Sciences at the Israeli Bar-Ilan University, known for its religious orientations, revealed the extent to which religious recruits obey the orders of the rabbis, as more than 90% of those who describe themselves as religious believe that if the steps taken by the Israeli government contradict the opinion of Rabbis, the first is to apply the opinion of the rabbis, and more than 95% of religious soldiers confirmed that they cannot obey military orders issued to them, without being consistent with religious fatwas issued by rabbis and religious authorities.

Strike in Several Schools in Jabal Mukaber, occupied Jerusalem

Today, Saturday, the strike spread in a number of schools in the town of Jabal Al Mukaber in occupied Jerusalem, on the first day of the new academic year, in protest against the arbitrary measures of the Israeli occupation municipality against students.

The strike came in response to the call of the Central Parents Committee of Jabal Al-Mukaber Schools, as it began with an open strike in Al-Sawahra Secondary School for Boys, and Ibn Al-Haytham Preparatory School for Boys, and a vigil in Al-Salaa Al-Jadida School, in rejection of the occupation’s decisions against schools.

The committee affirmed that the strike continues until the occupation municipality responds to their legitimate demands, which it submitted repeatedly to no avail, namely: transferring the students of Al-Sawahra Secondary School for Boys to the Ibn Al-Haytham Preparatory School building in Wadi Al-Hummus, and transferring the students of Ibn Al-Haytham Preparatory School for Boys to The new building located in Al-Jaabis neighborhood, and securing their transportation, after the travel company refused to transport the students for this year.

Also among the demands is presenting a future action plan for building new educational institutions, and closing rented buildings that do not meet the required specifications.

Occupation Tightens Penalties...Our people increase respect and love to Prisoners

Al Quds op-ed

Al Quds op-ed

Opinion Writer

The occupation authorities have taken several measures in an attempt to tighten the penalties on the prisoners and their families. The most prominent of these measures is to limit the families’ visit to their captive children once every two months, not every month, as is the case until now. The implementation of these measures will start from tomorrow, Sunday.

The prisoners who reject these measures have begun preparing to answer them as soon as possible, and the steps or positions they will take and adhere to will be announced.

And the occupation in general, never stops with foolish arrests, most of which are without any laws or human logic, and they believe that with these measures they will get rid of the resistance of the people and the sons of this people and the land they occupy, and they forget or are blind to knowing the truth, which is that the sons of this people They will never remain silent about the theft of their land and their future, whether through arrests, home demolitions and land confiscation. They will remain steadfast and defend their rights and against the occupation that is trying hard to force them to remain silent and accept what is imposed on them.

Our prisoners are the vanguard of our people in defending their rights and represent all human and legal rights, and many of them spend long years behind bars amid unspeakable suffering. This minister, steeped in extremism, Itamar Ben Gvir, has taken several punitive measures, and he believes that by doing so he will weaken the spirit of resistance and defense of the homeland, but he is more than delusional, and does not realize or does not want to realize that these prisoners are the vanguard and they are the pioneers and always in the forefront, and they will not give up what They want it and defend it even if they sacrifice their lives for the sake of this homeland, which is history and the future.

Increasing the penalties for these pioneers and their families will not increase our people, but more adherence to rights, freedom, and defense of the land, the homeland, and the future. They are confident that the future is for them and for the entire people, no matter how long or short the time is, and no matter how arrogant the occupation is, the future is definitely ours.. and the coming days are the best proof.
In conclusion, we say to our prisoners: You have all the respect and love, and our people stand with you and your rights and respect to your positions.

Ben Gvir Wages an All-out War on the Palestinian Prisoners

The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, continues his war against Palestinian prisoners, by drawing up a plan that includes a series of decisions aimed at harassing them and stripping them of some of their rights.

And the Hebrew Channel 12 reported, last night, that despite the controversy surrounding his decision, which he took yesterday on the issue of reducing the visits of the prisoners’ families to their children from twice a month to once every two months.

Ben Gvir's decision caused a state of anger among the Israeli security services, who warned that this would lead to a broader escalation by the Palestinians, at a time when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied that such a decision had been taken, which he said would only take place after consultations that would take place later. .

According to the Hebrew channel, Ben Gvir developed a comprehensive plan to clamp down on Palestinian prisoners, which will include reducing products and their numbers inside the canteens, or the so-called "cantina".

According to the channel, this step will include preventing the entry of some foodstuffs, reducing the time of the "outburst", deleting more television channels that prisoners are allowed to watch, preventing self-cooking, preventing Hamas and Fatah prisoners from being placed in one section, and canceling the duties of prisoners' representatives before the prisons authorities  and stop overcrowding in cells.

The Palestinian leadership and the Next Impasse

Bakr Abu Bakr

Bakr Abu Bakr

Opinion Writer

A number of Arab countries followed the path of the "Trump-Abraham" agreements in 2020 AD at a rapid pace in the framework of caring for the private internal affairs of each country, and achieving its economic interests as a priority with the Israeli through the provisions of these agreements of "mutual understanding and coexistence, as well as respect for human dignity and freedom including religious freedom" in accordance with the conventions.

And through what the agreements also stipulated in terms of “exerting efforts to promote dialogue across religions and cultures to promote a culture of peace…”, and through confronting the Arab countries that signed with the occupation to “common challenges”! Through "cooperation and dialogue", and through "development of friendly relations between countries", and in pursuit of "tolerance and respect for people to make this world a place where everyone enjoys a decent life and hope!"

The signatories said they support "science, art, medicine, and commerce as a means of inspiring humanity and maximizing its potential, and bringing nations closer together" and also through: "cooperation in the fields of health care, science and technology, the peaceful uses of outer space, tourism, culture and sports, energy, the environment, and education!", arrangements Maritime, Telecommunications and Post, Agriculture and Food Security, Water and Legal Cooperation.

Despite some vague or indirect references that the Arab side intended to include the Palestinians, their direct mention was turned into a deal or a slap of the era for Trump. They were not specifically included, or with a clarification of the Arab-Palestinian demands. Rather, the discourse of generalities with regard to the (central!) Or achieve the independence of the existing State of Palestine, according to the United Nations.
The signatories said in general that "they seek to end extremism and conflict in the (Middle East)" region, and to "establish peace, diplomatic relations and the full normalization of relations...". And also "promoting a culture of peace between the two communities"! Although there was no existing armed or unarmed conflict between the signatory Arab countries and the Israeli occupation, neither in the recent nor the distant past. Where the signatories at the time, including the occupation, sought to "achieve a vision of peace, security and prosperity in the Middle East and in the world."!
In the agreements tagged with the name of Trump and Abram or the biblical Abraham, the intruder to Muslims, the Palestinian cause or the name of Palestine had no mention at all, which clearly meant that the central stage of the Palestinian issue or the liberation of Palestine, or even the independence of the existing State of Palestine but under occupation, the curtain has come down on it. And the issue lost its priority in the Arab official system, as it dropped its sanctity, and where no reference was made to the city of Jerusalem or the Islamic and Christian sanctities in all of Palestine at all either.

Despite the generality, ambiguity and ambiguity of many texts that did not agree, and do not yet agree with the practices of the Israeli occupation, as imposed by its terrorist settler militias with the army and government by force, killing, land theft, arrest...etc. But it has no real meaning such as “hope”, “children”, “peace”, “closeness”, “cooperation”, “care”, “dignity”! It has no real meaning because it is all - and more - fallen into Zionist practices in Palestine.
And to the great surprise at that time, cooperation in the field of "education", whose meaning was not understood? However, the intent was to abolish what is related to the right of the Arabs in Palestine in terms of the historical narrative at least! Or the abolition of the Qur’anic verses that address the oppressors of the Jews, or the ancient defunct tribe of Bani Israel?

In general, these are agreements that are bypassed by Israel in Palestine, and even America is not mentioned much, and it has proven, in fact, its abject failure in curbing the occupation from the minimum of its daily terrorist, aggressive and extremist actions until today. In achieving Zionist hegemony over the region on the one hand, and in dragging the Arabs to bypass Palestine and the Palestinian cause, even culturally and intellectually.

Regardless of the opinion on the "Trump-Accord Agreements" and Trump's deal, which the occupation clearly destroyed by losing hope and bringing down peace, what is emerging these days about the Saudi track with its expected relations with the Israelis requires the Palestinian leadership first and foremost to pause carefully and think carefully about the next steps in an era After the American exclusivity in the rapidly coming world, and in the modern era of the kingdom led by Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It is known that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has supported the Palestinian cause since its inception. It is the owner of all the political initiatives that were launched at various stages to save the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization from falling, and even before that in light of the Egyptian-Saudi Nasserist conflict. President Abdel Nasser directed the leadership of the "Fatah" movement to open relations with Saudi Arabia, which indicates the centrality of This role is even known to those who disagree with it.

Saudi requirements and interests must be dealt with with caution, care, and respect, and the extent to which they are linked to the ever-strong Palestine, the greatness of its cause and its people, and its consideration as inalienable in the region because it, that is, Palestine, is the seal or the key to true peace and the key to war within the framework of what is being leaked about the US-Israeli-Saudi deal.

The current situation places heavy burdens on the shoulders of the Palestinian leadership, between fortifying national principles and goals that cannot be abandoned, and between looking at a shining lamp that does not sever any relationship with a major country in the region such as Saudi Arabia on the one hand, and in a way that does not make the Arab-Israeli conflict finished. Since the end of this conflict can never be achieved without self-determination on the one hand and the return of refugees, and the achievement of the independence of the State of Palestine, which is established by natural, historical and legal right and recognized as a member of the United Nations in 2012 AD, on the other hand.

The form of dealing with the countries of the "Trump Abraham Accords", which is actually boycotting these countries or reducing the level of dealing and relations with them, may not be correct in the concept of political realism, and it is not correct, especially in the political course that is rolling today between repositioning and the reversal of ideas and positions, and it is not correct in light of what The state of Israeli aggression is doing it with its fascist government on the one hand, and from its endeavor to achieve hegemony over the nation and encircle Palestine from the six sides, despite the Palestinian leadership’s opinion as a whole, which is still clear on the need to implement the King Abdullah initiative - the Saudi Arab initiative from A to Z and not the other way around with the necessity of the scheduled Israeli withdrawal from the land of the State of Palestine.

The new Palestinian vision or policy must never neglect the just Arab-Palestinian narrative, and the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people in their land and their historic homeland is guaranteed by all international laws, and it must not neglect the liberation of the State of Palestine from the Israeli occupation. And do not neglect that the name of the State of Palestine under occupation (and not the Authority or others) be blatant when signing any upcoming Arab agreements, especially after the occupation failed in what was required of it by the Trumpian agreements, and before that when it destroyed the Oslo agreements, which must be reflected in the course of Palestinian relations with The new world, and with the new kingdom.

About the Efficiency of the Israeli Army and Aggression Against the Palestinians

Moustafa Ibrahim

Moustafa Ibrahim

Opinion Writer

Israeli military analysts have again warned of the judicial reform plan, and its impact on the efficiency of the Israeli army, and the exacerbation of the phenomenon of members of the reserve forces in the Israeli army stopping compliance in military service in protest of the government's progress in the judicial reform plan to weaken the judiciary, and the extent of the impact of this phenomenon on the competencies of the army and his readiness for war. According to Israeli military analysts, the months of September and October are two dramatic months in this respect, and that the past month, despite the lack of new developments among the reservists, was not a good month for the army.

The escalation in the protests will lead directly to an exacerbation of the crisis within the army, which sees the Haredi recruitment law as a central issue that would affect the army and not just the reservists.

What worries the Israeli army more than the tension on the security fronts is mainly the repercussions of the deep crisis in Israeli society on the competencies and cohesion of the army.

According to military analysts, the direct importance lies mainly in the Air Force, and according to various estimates, more than 20% of all reserve pilots and about 25% of combat pilots have not returned to flying and training for about two months. And it does not matter that only about half of them informed their leaders that they had stopped flying due to protest, and another part for other reasons in order to leave the door open.

In light of these data and a more pessimistic and perhaps more realistic assessment of the exacerbation of the crisis in Israeli society, the Israeli army warns that the consequences and effects will be felt in a direct relationship to the army, such as the return of protests that are expected to occur in many points of friction this September.

These warnings may be exaggerated, especially given the surplus military force that the Israeli army possesses, including the manpower of regular and reserve soldiers, and the superior capabilities possessed by the army and its reliance not only on the Air Force. Perhaps it is directed by the leadership of the Israeli army and senior officers in the reserve and former ones in the army, and serves the protesters against the judicial reform plan to pressure the Israeli prime minister to back down from the plan of the ruling coalition, and its impact on the entire Israeli political system, not just the army.

These warnings come at a time when Israel is going through a number of great challenges. The tension on the northern border, and the mutual threat from the Lebanese resistance and its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, and from the Israeli Minister of Security, Yoav Galant, towards the head of the political bureau of Hamas in the West Bank, Saleh al-Arouri, who lives in Lebanon and is responsible for the activities of the resistance in the West Bank.

In addition to the escalation in the Palestinian arena, especially in the occupied West Bank, and the ignition of the Palestinian resistance, and there are no immediate solutions to limit the individual and organized resistance operations. Events may escalate, and the escalation will extend to the Gaza Strip in light of the Israeli threat to carry out assassinations against the leaders of the resistance.

The escalation of tension in the Lebanese arena, and Gallant's statements in New York, along with Hassan Nasrallah's clear statements that any assassination attributed to Israel on Lebanese soil will lead to a response, seem to indicate a further escalation of tension. along the northern border, but so far things are under control.

According to some military analysts, during the past two weeks, several indicators have been identified in the security system indicating a slight decrease in the level of tensions. Perhaps this is an attempt to take closer control of the field activities of local Hezbollah operatives.

The expectation is that these tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon will accompany Israel in the coming months. And the borders drawn by Hassan Nasrallah and the granting of immunity to the leaders of the Palestinian resistance in Lebanon, and this is clear evidence of the Israeli dilemma, in an attempt to form clear regional borders and fear of a security escalation and perhaps even a war in the north.

With all this and the reality of the Middle East that is heating up at any moment, but despite the escalation of threatening statements, the Israeli security establishment believes that Israel and Hezbollah are not on the brink of war.

Returning to the Palestinian arena, it is the most explosive, and according to the admission of the Israeli security establishment, the festive period is characterized by high security sensitivity.

Although it is estimated that Israel may carry out an assassination of the leaders of the resistance in the Gaza Strip, which may turn into a military operation, military analysts expect that the resistance factions, especially Hamas, will in the near future intensify their efforts to undermine the security situation in the West Bank as well as inside Israel.

After a long period of relative silence, it seems that the Gaza Strip is also waking up, with reference to the talk about re-activating the return camps, and the Israeli concern about the occurrence of acts of resistance on the eastern borders of the Strip.

In light of the warning about the impact of the judicial reform plan on the efficiency of the Israeli army, the increase in resistance activities in the West Bank, and the claim of a high and increasing level of threats from the Hamas leadership, and saying that it is not excluded that at some point the firing of rockets from the Strip will resume.

It is widely believed that part of the transformation that is now gradually taking place in the Gaza Strip is also related to the efforts made by Hamas to receive more money and economic aid from the Qataris and other international parties, and also to try to put pressure on Israel in order to obtain additional civil and economic concessions.

These contradictions in the Israeli narrative, and what is happening on the ground, is that the resistance takes the utmost care and caution in waiting for an aggression on the Strip, as well as saying that the security situation in the West Bank will deteriorate further, which will eventually lead to a large-scale operation in the Gaza Strip, which is It is not a one-day process, but it may happen gradually.

At the same time, the Israeli dilemma, the competence of the army, and the aggression against the Palestinians are raised, and about whether Israel should reap a price from Hamas in the Gaza Strip for that, these are illogical allegations, in light of the Israeli threat to assassinate the leaders of the resistance, the aggressive policy, and the terror of settlers in the West Bank did not stop, nor did Ben Gvir's actions against Palestinian prisoners.

Foreign Ministry Welcomes Statements of Belgian Minister on Israeli Crimes

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the statements of the Belgian Minister of Cooperation and Development, Caroline Gennes, regarding the violations and crimes of the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territory.

In an interview with the Belgian newspaper "De Morgan", Minister Jesnez said that, unfortunately, the year 2023 is considered the bloodiest year in a long time in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and we witnessed the erasure of entire villages from the map by the Israelis, and the periods of violent escalation are shorter compared to the past.

The Belgian minister was subjected to an Israeli attack after her statements, and the occupation government summoned the Belgian ambassador to Tel Aviv, Jean-Luc Bodson, for a reprimand session at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the occupation ambassador to Belgium, Aidit Rozenzweg, submitted a letter of protest to the Belgian Foreign Ministry in Brussels.

The Foreign Ministry considered that the Belgian Minister's statements are fully consistent with international law and resolutions of international legitimacy and support the two-state solution and the principles of human rights as she referred to.

The Foreign Ministry condemned the heinous and unjustified Israeli attack by the Israeli government against the minister and her statements, considering it within the framework of misleading propaganda and intimidation of parties that criticize the occupying state and attempts to obscure the reality of the historical injustice that the Palestinian people are subjected to, repression, abuse, persecution and racial discrimination, which many organizations have spoken about. US Democrats Back Pro Palestinian Ilhan Omar Amid Israeli lobby Threat

US Congressman Ilhan Omar, the representative representing the fifth constituency in the state of Minnesota, who is of Somali / Yemeni origin, and the only veiled woman in the US Congress, obtained the endorsement of the Democratic leadership in Congress, before the primaries cycle to face fierce attacks from the Israeli lobby organizations that she wants to defeat her for her pro-Palestinian positions.

In remarks to Politico, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Second Class Minority Leader Catherine Clark and other top Democrats such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and Jim Clyburn expressed their support for the progressive lawmaker from Minnesota.

"Omar has been elected by her constituents three times and has consistently defended them, including by serving on the House Budget Committee," Jefferies said in a statement to the newspaper.

"As the leader of the House Democrats, I strongly support her re-election and stand with her as we fight radical Republicans for the future of our nation," he added, referring to Republicans who support Donald Trump and his "Make America Great Again" slogan.

It is noteworthy that Jeffreys and Hoyer were on a visit to Israel organized and funded by the Israeli lobby organization "AIPAC" a few weeks ago, where they expressed their contradictory support for Israel and met with the Israeli Prime Minister, who has been facing a wave of opposition demonstrations since he assumed the premiership last December. On the same day as the report was released, AIPAC posted a video to X, formerly known as Twitter, of Jefferies at the aforementioned AIPAC-sponsored visit, in which the Democratic leader discussed "strict adherence to the special relationship that exists between the two countries." ".

Omar said in a statement that she was "proud to have the respect and support of every member of the House Democratic leadership during my re-election campaign.”

While it is customary for House leaders to support current candidates, Jefferies' announcement is significant given his ties to the pro-Israel lobby group AIPAC.

Earlier this month, Jewish Insider reported that AIPAC was recruiting a slew of candidates to challenge members of the "squad" — a nickname given to the cadre of progressive lawmakers who came into office at the turn of the decade. According to the report, the list of targeted incumbents includes Ilhan Omar, Jamal Bowman, and Rashida Tlaib.

Jeffress has previously supported Bowman and Omar, who regularly infuriate AIPAC with their criticism of Israel and its treatment of the Palestinians.

During last year's congressional primaries, AIPAC's super political action committee, the United Democratic Project (UDP), spent nearly $1 million backing a leading Democratic challenger against Omar.

Despite the support of the democratic leadership for representatives Omar, Tlaib, and Representative Bowman, these progressive representatives face great pressure from the same democratic leadership to moderate their voices in support of the Palestinian cause and the BDS movement, and to demand cutting American aid to Israel because of its racism.

Zelensky Pushing Washington on Security Deal Based on "Israeli model"

The American weekly Newsweek revealed in its Thursday issue that with the faltering counterattack launched by Ukraine continuing, American and Ukrainian officials are quietly negotiating a formal alliance capable of reshaping the security landscape in Europe.

Negotiations were overshadowed by Kiev's push this summer to regain Russian-controlled territory in southern Ukraine, but the discussions caught new attention recently when Ukrainian President Volodymyr said he expected Ukraine and the United States to agree to a security agreement similar to the alliance between the United States and Israel.

It is noteworthy that there is no defense treaty between the two countries, but the United States provides Israel with military aid worth four billion annually, and the United States considers Israel its most important ally in the region.

According to NEWSWEEK, Zelensky said in an interview Sunday with Ukrainian media that "we are likely to get this exact model, the Israeli model that includes weapons, technology, training and financing."

Such an arrangement would provide Ukraine with less security compared to its membership in NATO, which US President Joe Biden said would not happen before the end of the war. But such training would make Ukraine a crucial long-term partner for the United States in Eastern Europe, while sending Russia the message that Western support for Kiev will not diminish.

Experts believe that the current arrangements between the United States and Ukraine are a reliable temporary arrangement until the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO is clarified.

A bilateral security alliance similar to the agreement between America and Israel is supposed to create a permanent stream of military aid to Ukraine, along with training, intelligence cooperation, and other resources. Since the beginning of the Russo-Ukraine war, the US Congress has approved military aid to Ukraine on an ad hoc basis, which has created uncertainty for military planners in Kiev, military experts say.

A long-term security guarantee could also help insulate Ukraine from changes in power in the White House and Congress caused by the elections. A growing number of Republicans in Congress and some of the party's 2024 presidential candidates oppose more military aid to Ukraine.

But it is not clear from Zelensky's comments whether the negotiators are using Israel as a model for Ukraine, or whether this is simply the direction he would like the talks to go. Zelensky is known to urge Western allies to try to get them to do more to support Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that the Ukrainian president's comments last Sunday were not the first time that Zelensky raised Israel as a possible model for moving forward in the relationship between the United States and Ukraine.

The administration of US President Biden has not publicly disclosed much about the security negotiations with Ukraine since the announcement in early August of the start of the talks.

The Future of Hamas

In October Hamas is supposed to be conducting its internal elections for the new political bureau and other leadership institutions. What has been reported is that the competition for the head of the political bureau, which is the highest political body in Hamas is between Yehya Sinwar who heads Hamas in Gaza, and Salah al Aruri, who is currently number two in the political bureau today.  The Hamas internal elections are secretive and they are conducted separately in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, the diaspora, and within the Israeli prisons. Those who vote are secret and the process is carried out over a period of weeks. Sinwar cannot run for leading Hamas in Gaza because he has served two terms and that is the limit. These elections could be crucial for the future of Hamas and, therefore; they are important for the future of Palestine and for the future of Israel.

Aruri is one of the founding commanders of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the Hamas military apparatus. He is regarded as "the military commander of the West Bank”. Aruri originates from the West Bank.  He studied Sharia law at Hebron University where he was elected head of the Islamic faction in the University. Aruri built up the military wing of Hamas in the West Bank and he was arrested by Israel in 1990. In total, he spent 15 years in prison. In 2010,Aruri was expelled from the West Bank and Gaza and went to Syria. In 2011, Aruri was a member of the Hamas negotiating team that negotiated with Israel the release of Gilad Schalit together with 1027 Palestinian prisoners.   One of the released prisoners was Yehya Sinwar.

Sinwar was also one of the founders of Hamas’ military apparatus. He grew up in Khan Yunis in Gaza and was a classmate of exiled Palestinian leader Mohammed Dahlan (who lives in Abu Dhabi). Sinwar studied at the Islamic University of Gaza and received a BA degree in Arabic studies. His family originates from Asqelon (today’s Ashkelon). Sinwar was first arrested in 1982, he spent 22 years in Israeli prisons. According to Israeli sources in 1988, he masterminded the abduction and killing of two Israeli soldiers and the murder of four Palestinian whom he suspected cooperating with Israel, for which he was arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to four life sentences in 1989. According to Israeli intelligence officers that I engaged with in the Schalit negotiations, Sinwar never killed Israelis, but he did kill Palestinians suspected of working for the Israeli security.

Today Aruri is considered to be one of the more extreme leaders in Hamas. Aruri has been behind the renewing of relations between Hamas and Iran, after a break away from Iran in 2012. Aruri is also believed to be the driving force encouraging young Palestinians in the West Bank to attack Israelis. Sinwar is considered to be the most pragmatic leader that Hamas has produced since its founding. Sinwar kept Hamas out of the direct line of fire in the last two Israeli military operations in Gaza. Already in May 2018, on Al Jazeera, Sinwar stated that Hamas would pursue "peaceful, popular resistance" opening the possibility that Hamas may play a role in negotiations with Israel. That has not yet happened, although indirect negotiations have taken place with Hamas through Sinwar in recent years through the Egyptian Intelligence and the Qatari special envoy Mohammed el Emadi.

For the past years I have been discussing with several Hamas leaders the possibilities for entering into a long-term ceasefire with Israel (Hudna). Recently I had a conversation with a Hamas leader about different ideas. This is what we communicated:

Hamas leader: You know very well and everyone knows that this crazy struggle and the blood that is shed every day is because of the occupation, and the occupation only. We as Palestinians have no fault other than that we are victims of this occupation. What if we proposed very simply, on the part of Hamas, that Israel withdraws from the occupied territories in return for a long-term armistice?

Me: there won't be a move with such dramatic steps before we begin to build some kind of trust.

Hamas: All armed operations can be stopped and calm prevails for all, and I think it is a good proposal!

Me: there needs to be some steps first - but I think if Hamas made a proposal like that it would get people to begin to think that perhaps there is some hope. Let's think together - something has to change - change is made by people. What about something like: a five year full ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank and East Jerusalem in exchange for full settlement building freeze (the majority of Israelis will support this), opening the siege on Gaza - allowing workers and people to travel between the West Bank and Gaza, allowing goods in (all with the proper and necessary security checks), allowing Palestinian elections in all of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, recognizing the legitimate results of elections, removing Israeli internal checkpoints in the West Bank as the security situation improves, allowing Gazans to pray in Al Aqsa.

Our discussion is ongoing and has been ongoing for years. This person is one of the people in the pragmatic camp of Sinwar in Gaza. He is one of several key figures in that camp. This kind of thinking demonstrates clearly the difference between Sinwar’s pragmatic assessment of the situation and reality as opposed to Aruri who lives outside of Palestine, between Beirut, Istanbul and Doha.  The Hamas leadership in Gaza bears the brunt of governance and the need to provide for the more than two million people living in Gaza. The Hamas leadership outside have their lives of luxury in five-star hotels and private jets.

Hamas seeks to be integrated into the Palestinian national institutions. That will happen, according to Hamas through Palestinian national elections. Their position is that Palestinian unity will also be achieved only through elections. To the best of my understanding and the assessment of the leading Palestinian experts, there is almost no chance that Hamas would win those elections. Hamas will gain a sizable number of seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council, probably around 30%, the experts say. Some of those experts are the ones who predicted the Hamas victory in 2006 (so did I). Hamas is part of Palestinian political life and society and there is no chance that it will disappear as a political movement. There are, however, many possibilities for the pragmatic camp in Hamas to gain support. If Palestinian elections were to take place immediately after a military confrontation with Israel, then a Hamas victory would be very likely. If on the other hand, there were prominent voices being heard from within Israel’s national security establishment – past and present – the support for the pragmatic camp would most likely increase. If Sinwar and other Hamas leaders voiced support for a long-term ceasefire with Israel, with conditions that could be accepted by a majority of Israelis, such as the ones I proposed above, I believe that would open the doors to the commodity most missing in Gaza: Hope.

The Arab Economic and Social Council, in its 112th regular session at the ministerial level, which was held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, under the presidency of Yemen, adopted a draft resolution on supporting the Palestinian economy.

According to the draft resolution presented by the Minister of National Economy, Khaled Osseily, there is a call for the establishment of Arab partnerships to support the Palestinian economy for the gradual disengagement from the Israeli occupation through investment in Palestine and the Palestinian industrial cities, and Arab goods are a substitute for the Israeli and European products.

The Council confirmed taking the necessary measures regarding the boycott of the Israeli occupation and its colonial regime, and instructing the General Secretariat - the economic sector, to find appropriate mechanisms to monitor any violations in this framework by international companies, and to present an annual report to the Council to take the appropriate decision in this regard.
