The White House cancels a meeting with Israel to protest Netanyahu's statements

Axios reported, citing American officials, that the White House canceled a high-level meeting with Israel regarding Iran that was scheduled to be held tomorrow, Thursday.

The two officials said that the decision came in protest against a video by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding supplying the Israeli army with American weapons, with the aim of sending a message to Netanyahu.

On the other hand, Axios quoted an Israeli official as saying that the White House informed the Israeli government that President Joe Biden’s senior advisors had decided to cancel the strategic dialogue between Tel Aviv and Washington regarding Iran.

On the other hand, another American official indicated that the meeting was only postponed until a later time due to organizational problems.

Netanyahu's statement

Netanyahu had criticized the Biden administration in a video recording, and stated that it was unreasonable for Washington to withhold weapons and ammunition from Israel during the past months.

Netanyahu called on the American administration to lift the restrictions imposed on military support for Israel, with the aim of completing the mission faster, as he put it.

He also added in his statement that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken assured him that the US administration is working to remove restrictions on providing weapons to Israel.

Sanders' statements

For his part, independent US Senator Bernie Sanders criticized Netanyahu after he appeared in a video expressing his dissatisfaction with Washington's failure to provide weapons to Israel as quickly as Tel Aviv requested.

Sanders stressed in a statement that the United States should withhold all offensive military aid to Israel, and use its influence to demand an end to the war on Gaza.

The US Senator called on the Biden administration to urge the Israeli government to seek to bring humanitarian aid into Gaza without restrictions, to stop the killing of Palestinians in the West Bank, and to take initial steps towards a two-state solution.

American official: There are difficulties facing the floating dock in Gaza

Director of the United States Agency for International Development, Samantha Power, acknowledged the difficulties facing the floating dock established by the US army on the coast of the Gaza Strip, and expressed her appreciation for the humanitarian role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Strip.

Power said that land crossings are less expensive and allow relief to continue, but she confirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera that the floating dock is important in the US agency’s vision of the process of bringing aid into Gaza.

Power's admission regarding the difficulties surrounding the presence of the floating dock that her country built off the coast of Gaza, comes a few days after the US Central Command (Centcom) announced that it had decided to temporarily move the dock from its location on the Gaza coast to the Israeli port of Ashdod again, due to what was said to be expectations of a rise in sea waves.

Centcom said in a statement issued last Friday, “Today, due to expectations of high sea waves, the floating dock will be removed from its location in Gaza and moved again to Ashdod.”

She noted, "We did not take the decision to temporarily move the dock lightly, but it is necessary to ensure that the temporary dock continues to provide aid to Gaza in the future."

On June 7, the US Central Command announced the reconstruction of the floating pier off the coast of Gaza designated for transporting limited amounts of aid to the besieged Strip, after its collapse “due to rough waves.”

The floating dock was opened on May 17, but it quickly collapsed after a week of operation due to the waves, and parts of it separated and reached the shore of the city of Ashdod.

Palestinian circles say that the purpose of establishing the floating dock is to “serve the hidden political interests” of Israel and the United States, contrary to what is portrayed by Washington and Tel Aviv as a “humanitarian step.”

The position on UNRWA

Regarding the American position regarding UNRWA, Samantha Power said that there are serious allegations directed against UNRWA, and they must be verified, noting that she appreciates the humanitarian role that the agency plays in Gaza, but she is obligated to respect American law that prohibits dealing with it.

A statement from the US Agency for International Development said that Power met with partners in the humanitarian field and Israeli officials, including Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy.

The statement explained that the meeting discussed the challenges facing providing humanitarian aid in a safe and sustainable manner inside Gaza, noting that Power proposed to Israeli officials and humanitarian partners measures to enhance a safe environment for providing humanitarian aid.

The US agency said in its statement that the participants agreed on a number of next steps to urgently address the challenges facing the distribution of aid, medical services and sanitation. They also agreed to coordinate to meet again to review the progress that has been achieved.

Last January, US President Joe Biden announced the cessation of funding for UNRWA, shortly after Tel Aviv launched allegations accusing employees of the agency of participating in the attack of last October 7.

Last March, America decided to continue halting funding allocated to the agency until March 2025, and to open a discussion about alternative ways to assist the Palestinians humanitarianly.

UN : 39 million tons of rubble left behind by Israel's attacks on Gaza

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) said that the Israeli attacks on residential areas in the Gaza Strip since October 7 have left 39 million tons of rubble.

This came in a report published by the program on Tuesday, regarding the environmental impact of the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The program noted that it prepared the report remotely using information it obtained from United Nations activities on the ground, due to the security situation and access barriers in the region.

He stressed that the environmental impacts of the war on Gaza have reached unprecedented levels, noting that the people of the Strip face the dangers of soil, water and air pollution.

The report called for an immediate ceasefire in order to protect lives and reduce the impact on the environment.

He stated that the Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since October 7 left 39 million tons of rubble, equivalent to 107 kilograms of rubble per square meter in Gaza.

He pointed out that almost all water, sanitation and hygiene systems have collapsed in Gaza, warning that sewage has begun to mix with seas, soil, drinking water and even food.

He explained that ammunition and explosive chemicals in densely populated areas in Gaza led to contamination of soil and water resources, and that the risk of heavy metal leakage as a result of damage to solar panels is great.

War on Gaza: Israel committed 3 massacres in 24 hours, resulting in 24 citizens killed

The Israeli occupation army continues its land, air and sea aggression against the Gaza Strip, as the aggression enters its 257th consecutive day, as a number of citizens were killed and others were injured as a result of the occupation’s bombing of several areas in the Strip.

Here are the latest developments: The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the occupation committed 3 massacres against families, resulting in 24 killed and 71 injuries to hospitals during the past 24 hours.

The death toll of the aggression rose to 37,396 and 85,523 injuries since the seventh of last October.

18 citizens were killed in the Israeli occupation’s bombing of several areas in the Gaza Strip, since dawn on Wednesday.

Medical sources reported that two martyrs from the city of Rafah arrived at the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, after being targeted by occupation army fire.

The sources indicated that two other people died as a result of the occupation bombing of homes in the new camp, west of the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.

In the city of Rafah, at least 7 citizens were killed and dozens injured, in a violent occupation bombing that targeted the tents of displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area, northwest of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The occupation also opened fire on citizens' homes in the Saudi neighborhood, west of the city of Rafah, south of Rafah, accompanied by an incursion by Israeli military vehicles into the neighborhood.

Israeli warplanes launched raids on the western areas of the city of Rafah and targeted with artillery shelling the vicinity of the Emirati field hospital west of the city.

In the same context, doctors warned of the catastrophic deterioration of the health situation in Rafah due to the occupation army’s targeting of hospitals, as some patients are dying due to lack of medicines.

In Gaza City, medical sources reported that 6 citizens were killed and others were injured as a result of the occupation bombing of a house belonging to the Abu Safiya family on Second Street in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.

The occupation artillery targeted the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of the city, amid heavy gunfire, and Israeli gunboats also opened fire on civilian homes off the coast of Al-Shati camp, west of Gaza City.

In the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, medical teams recovered 3 dead as a result of the occupation’s bombing of the northwestern region of the Nuseirat camp: Al-Harith Miqdad, Mahmoud Abu Arab, and Muhammad Abu Arab.

Israeli Quadcopter drones fired bullets at citizens' homes east of the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

In an infinite toll, the death toll since the start of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, on the seventh of last October, has risen to more than 37,372 citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and 85,452 injuries, and thousands of victims are still under the rubble and on the roads. The occupation prevents ambulance and civil defense crews from reaching them.

American leaders must stop humiliating themselves about Israel

In his weekly article on Wednesday in the opinion page of the New York Times, Thomas Friedman, known for his fame and closeness to US President Joe Biden, says that on November 4, 2022, after the current far-right Israeli government coalition won the elections, he wrote a column with the title: “The Israel we knew has... Gone,” and that it was supposed to be a warning about how extreme this alliance was, “and many people disagreed with me, but I think events have proven them wrong — and now the situation is even worse: the Israel we knew is gone, and the Israel of today is in existential danger” .

According to the writer: “Israel faces a regional superpower, Iran, which has managed to put Israel in a binding grip, using its allies and proxies: Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and the Shiite militias in Iraq. At the present time, Israel has no military or diplomatic response. And what is worse is It faces the possibility of war on three fronts - Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank - but with a new and dangerous development: Hezbollah in Lebanon, in contrast to Hamas, is armed with precise missiles capable of destroying large areas of Israeli infrastructure, from its airports to its seaports, to its universities, to its military bases, to its power plants.”

But Israel, Friedman says, is led by a prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who must stay in power to avoid potentially being sent to prison on corruption charges. To do so, he has sold his soul to form a government with right-wing Jewish extremists who insist that Israel must fight In Gaza until you kill the last Hamas - "Complete Victory" - and who reject any partnership with the Palestinian Authority (which (accepted the Oslo Peace Accords)) in governing post-Hamas Gaza, because they want Israeli control of all the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, including "Including Gaza," and now, "Netanyahu's emergency war government has collapsed due to his lack of a plan to end the war and safely withdraw from Gaza, and the extremists in his coalition are looking to their next steps to power."

“They have already done so much damage, and yet neither President Biden, the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC, nor many in Congress have come to understand how radical this government is,” and “indeed, House Speaker Mike Johnson and his colleagues decided The party rewarded Netanyahu with the honor of speaking before a joint meeting of Congress on July 24, and top Democrats in the Senate and House of Representatives signed the invitation, but the unspoken goal of this Republican practice is to divide Democrats and provoke loud insults from their more progressive representatives, which would alienate voters. American Jews and donors and turns them towards Donald Trump.”

Friedman says that Netanyahu knows that it is all about domestic American politics, which is why his acceptance of the invitation to speak represents an act of betrayal to Joe Biden - “who flew to Israel to hug him in the days after October 7 and embraced him to the point of surprise.”

“No friend of Israel should participate in this circus,” Friedman says. “Israel needs a pragmatic centrist government that can pull it out of this multifaceted crisis – and seize the offer of normalization with Saudi Arabia that Biden has managed to engineer. This can only be achieved by Remove Netanyahu through new elections - as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer bravely called for (last March); Israel does not need a US-sponsored drinking party for its drunk driver.

The writer explains, “Unlike any previous Israeli government, this government wrote the goal of annexing the West Bank into the coalition agreement, so it is not surprising that it spent its first year trying to crush the ability of the Israeli Supreme Court to place any checks on its powers. Bibi (Netanyahu) also conceded.” He gave up control of the police and the main authorities in the Ministry of Defense to the Jewish racists in his coalition to enable them to deepen the settlers’ control over the West Bank, and they immediately began adding settlement housing units in the heart of that occupied land in record numbers to try to obstruct the establishment of any Palestinian state there.

“This nightmare alliance is now working to ensure that ultra-Orthodox youth will not have to serve in this war on an equal footing with secular young men and women, exhausted by eight months of fighting,” the army’s chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevy, told soldiers in Gaza over the weekend. There is a “clear need now” to recruit ultra-Orthodox Jews as soldiers to avoid another deployment of “several thousand” less religious elements, reservists,” according to Friedman, who points out that “the relatively small number of Israeli combat officers has been greatly reduced, and I cannot I can imagine how they could continue a war in Lebanon,” and “Taken together, we see a reckless act of economic, military, and moral transgression — committing seven million Jews to control more than seven million Palestinians (including two million Israeli Arabs) between River and sea forever."

According to the writer, this is considered madness in peacetime, and in wartime - a low-level war on three fronts that could become an absolute war on three fronts on any day - this is absolutely insane. "Israel is becoming increasingly alone, so what ally would want to participate in this agenda?"

That is why I agree with every word former Prime Minister Ehud Barak wrote in Haaretz last Thursday: Israel is facing “the most serious crisis in the country’s history.” It began on October 7 with the worst failure in Israel's history. It continued with a war that, despite the courage and sacrifices of soldiers and officers, seemed to be the least successful war in its history, due to the strategic paralysis in the country’s leadership,” he said.

Barak, the former army chief of staff, added that Israel “risks a multi-front war that includes Iran and its proxies.” And all this is happening while the judicial coup continues in the background, with the aim of establishing a racist, ultra-nationalist and ignorant missionary religious dictatorship.”

Barak warned that if the current government was allowed to remain in power, Israel would not only find itself stuck in Gaza — with Hamas continuing to fight and no Arab partner to help Israel out of there — but would likely find itself “in a difficult situation.” An all-out war with Hezbollah in the north, a third intifada in the West Bank, conflicts with the Houthis in Yemen and Iraqi militias in the Golan Heights, and of course a conflict with Iran itself.

Every American should worry about that. It is a recipe for dragging the United States into a war in the Middle East to help Israel, which would be a Russian, Chinese and Iranian dream come true.

Indeed, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who has made eight trips to Israel since October 7, should not make another trip without Israel and Hamas agreeing to a clear plan to end the war. It reduces American power and authority. This is the final time. Biden must tell Israel that it must accept Hamas's main demand: to end the war completely now and withdraw from Gaza in exchange for the return of all Israeli hostages. Israel cannot think straight while Hamas detains its people.

“If Israel can end the war in Gaza, it could lead to a US-brokered agreement with Hezbollah to calm the northern border war — which has been terrible for civilians on both sides. It could enable Israelis and Lebanese along their countries’ borders to return to their homes while The IDF being able to recover and refuel from an exhausting battle could halt the erosion of both Israel's economy and its global moral standing and allow the country to do something it should have done on October 8: stop, rethink, strategize, and not do exactly what it wanted. Iran and Hamas must do it - that is, attack head-on just as America did after September 11, 2001, and plunge into an endless war without any plan or partner. The next morning, as Barak said, Israel must then hold new elections.

Friedman says: “Yes, yes, I can hear the criticism of the war hawks now: “Friedman, will you allow the leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, to come out of his tunnel and declare victory?” Friedman answers: “Yes, I will do that; in fact, I hope to be present at the press conference in Gaza when it comes, so that I can ask the first question: “Mr. Sinwar, you claim that this is a great victory for Hamas – a complete Israeli withdrawal and a stable ceasefire.” I just want to know: What was between you and Israel on October 6, before your surprise attack? Oh, let me answer that: a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a stable ceasefire. If you don't mind, I'd like to stay here for a few days to watch you explain to the people of Gaza how you started a war that lasted eight months — and caused nearly 70 percent of Gaza's housing to be destroyed and left, by your count. , about 37,000 Gazans were killed, many of them women and children – so you can return Gaza to exactly what it was on October 6, in a ceasefire with Israel and no Israeli forces here. Another Hamas victory like this and Gaza will be unlivable forever."

And to the Israelis who will ask: “Friedman, are you crazy? Are you going to let Sinwar run Gaza again?” My answer again would be: yes, for now. The alternatives - either Israel administers Gaza or Gaza turns into another Somalia - are much worse. "Netanyahu's idea that some ideal Palestinians - who are neither members of Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority - will run the place for Israel is a fantasy."

“The only people who can defeat Hamas are the Palestinians in Gaza,” Friedman says. “They also need better leadership, and if they find it, we must help them rebuild. But until then, it would be crazy for Israel to want to stay in Gaza and be responsible for rebuilding.” "Reconstructing it. This honor should go to Sinwar."

Friedman adds, “I think that the morning after Sinwar emerges from his tunnel, many Gazans will want to beat him up because of the disaster he brought upon them. If not, Sinwar and Sinwar alone will be responsible when the water does not flow, when the building materials do not arrive, When the sun does not shine - not Israel. If he is foolish to start war with Israel again or try to smuggle weapons instead of food and housing for his people, it will all be on him.”

Friedman concludes by claiming, “It is unfortunate that if all this war does is buy Israel another long reprieve with Hamas, then that may be all that is possible. After all, until now, the true history of Jews and Palestinians, dating back to the early The twentieth is: war, armistice, war, armistice, war, armistice, war, armistice, war, armistice, and the real difference is what each side did in the armistice.

“Perhaps this will change one day, but for now Israel must leave Gaza and return to the time limit,” according to the writer.

Injuries by occupation bullets in the West Bank

A young man and two children were injured this Tuesday evening, by Israeli occupation forces’ bullets, in the cities of Bethlehem and Nablus.

According to local sources, the occupation forces shot a young man at the western entrance to the town of Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem, wounding him. The occupation forces closed the area and prevented ambulance crews and citizens from reaching him, leaving him bleeding.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that the occupation forces are still preventing its crews from reaching the person injured by live bullets at the entrance to the town of Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem.

The occupation forces stormed the town, deployed around a gas station inside it, and prevented citizens from moving.

In Nablus, two children were injured by Israeli occupation forces’ bullets in the village of Salem, east of the city.

Local sources said that the occupation forces fired live bullets, rubber-coated metal bullets, and poison gas bombs towards citizens.

The spokesman for the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, Ahmed Jibril, said that the society’s crews dealt with a foot injury to two children (15 years old).

Ben Gvir: We are committed to returning to Gaza and the northern West Bank

On Tuesday, Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir renewed his repeated call to encourage settlement in the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank, and to demand Palestinians to emigrate voluntarily.

Ben Gvir, leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, said: “We are committed to returning to Gaza, and to returning to northern Samaria. We are committed to settling there. We are committed to settling there.”

He added via a statement on his Telegram account: “The matter is not limited to Gush Katif (a settlement that Israel evacuated from Gaza in 2005), but includes all of Gaza.”

He continued: "We have to remind ourselves of one thing: that mere settlement is not enough," renewing his call for "voluntary migration" of the Palestinians residents of Gaza and the northern West Bank.

Ben Ghafir had previously spoken out several times and on repeated occasions, encouraging what he called the "voluntary migration" of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

Ben Gvir is one of the settlers in the city of Hebron in the south of the West Bank.

These statements were previously rejected by Western countries, including the United States, France, Britain, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, in addition to the European Union, and declared that the displacement of Gaza’s population is a violation of international law.

While Arab and Islamic countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, condemned the Israeli calls to displace Gazans from their land, stressing that they represent contempt for international laws and agreements and aim to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

Netanyahu: Blinken confirmed Washington's work to remove the arms embargo on Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Tuesday that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken confirmed, during his visit to Tel Aviv last week, that the US administration is working to resolve the issue of withholding weapons and ammunition from Israel.

On June 10 and 11, Blinken visited Tel Aviv as part of a Middle Eastern tour that also led him to Jordan and Qatar, as part of efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the day after the Security Council adopted a draft American resolution supporting President Joe Biden’s proposal in this regard.

Netanyahu said in a statement, a copy of which his office sent to Anadolu: “When Secretary Blinken was recently in Israel, we had a frank dialogue, and I said that I greatly appreciate the support that the United States has provided to Israel since the beginning of the war.”

He added: "But I also said that it is unreasonable for the American administration in the past few months to withhold weapons and ammunition from Israel."

He added: “Israel, which is the closest ally of the United States, is fighting for its life, and is fighting Iran and our other common enemies,” as he put it.

He continued: "Secretary Blinken assured me that the (American) administration is working day and night to remove these obstacles. I certainly hope that this is the situation. It should be the case."

According to the same statement, Netanyahu pointed out that “during World War II, Churchill said to the United States: Give us the tools (weapons needed for war) and we will do the job. And I say: Give us the tools and we will finish the job much faster.”

Netanyahu did not specify the type of weapons that Washington is withholding.

Since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, the United States has sent large quantities of weapons and explosives to Israel, according to Israeli and American data.

Despite the military superiority in equipment and numbers, and even in the necessities of life and steadfastness, Israel continues to request more support to complete a war that did not succeed in achieving the goal of eliminating the Palestinian resistance factions in the Gaza Strip, even after 9 months of brutal bombing.

US President Joe Biden previously suspended an arms deal to Israel due to its failure to protect civilians, according to what he claims to be keen on doing.

In early June, Israel signed a deal to buy 25 American F-35 fighter jets worth $3 billion, according to a statement by the Israeli Ministry of Defense reported by the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz.

Last April, Biden signed an aid package for Israel amounting to $26.4 billion, including $14 billion in military aid.

Israel bombs southern Lebanon, and America warns it of an Iranian attack that will be difficult to repel

Last night, Israel launched raids on villages in southern Lebanon, while the United States warned it of an Iranian attack that would be difficult to repel, as part of Washington's efforts to contain the escalation in the region.

Al Jazeera's correspondent reported that Israeli warplanes bombed a house in the town of Shaqra in the central sector of southern Lebanon.

Israeli aircraft also launched a raid on the vicinity of the town of Aitaroun, while another raid targeted the town of Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon.

On Monday evening, electricity was cut off in a number of villages in southern Lebanon, as a result of an Israeli bombing that targeted the town of Rab Thilaine.

The Lebanese official agency reported in a brief report that there was “heavy enemy (Israeli) artillery shelling on the town of Rab Thilaine.”

She explained that "the bombing on the town of Rab Thileen caused a power outage in the villages of Al-Taybeh, Deir Siryan, and a number of other southern villages."

Large-scale attack

For his part, the American envoy, Amos Hockstein, warned Israel of the possibility that the war with Hezbollah would lead to a widespread Iranian attack that would be difficult to repel.

Haaretz said that Hockstein warned of the possibility that the war with Hezbollah would lead to "a large-scale Iranian attack on Israel, which will be difficult for Israeli defense systems to repel, accompanied by the possibility of widespread fire by Hezbollah in Lebanon."

Iran launched a direct attack on Israel on April 13, 2024, calling it “The True Promise,” in response to Israel’s bombing of its consulate in Damascus, which resulted in the killing of prominent figures from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Iran launched many missiles and drones towards Israel, but the United States and France intercepted most of these attacks before they reached their targets.

Haaretz newspaper quoted the American envoy as telling Israeli officials, “As long as the fighting continues in the Gaza Strip, it will not be possible to reach a separate agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.”

She added, "Hochstein hopes that if the Israeli ground operation in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, is completed within two or three weeks, this will also lead to a reduction in the intensity of the fire between Israel and Hezbollah in the north."

On Monday, Hockstein met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, opposition leader Yair Lapid, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and head of the State Camp party, Benny Gantz.

Today, Tuesday, the American envoy began holding meetings with Lebanese officials in Beirut, to discuss containing the escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.

Preparing for war

Israeli strategic expert Yoni Ben Menachem said that the assessment in Israel is that "the Biden administration cannot push Hezbollah away from the border, and we must prepare for war."

He explained that there is great pessimism in Israel after the meetings of the political level with Amos Hockstein regarding the possibility of achieving a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the US State Department said that reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza would facilitate the solution on the border between Lebanon and Israel.

Ministry spokesman Matthew Miller added that Washington believes that there is a diplomatic framework that can be reached that may achieve a solution between Hezbollah and Israel without entering into an all-out war.

Since last October 8, Hezbollah and the Israeli army have exchanged daily bombardments, resulting in hundreds being killed and wounded, most of them on the Lebanese side.

Hezbollah says that it stands in solidarity with Gaza, which has been exposed since October 7 to an Israeli war that has left more than 122,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid deadly famine and massive destruction.

Israeli writer: What is the benefit of continuing the war on Gaza?

Israeli writer Ariela Ringel Hoffman said that it is impossible not to question the benefit of the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, especially in light of the conditions that are witnessing a noticeable deterioration.

He added in a report published by the Israeli website Ynet that the time has come to make difficult decisions at a time when achieving complete victory does not seem possible.

The writer believes that it is impossible to describe the extent of horror and sadness that people feel when they hear the news of the killing of 10 Israeli soldiers in battle. These soldiers were not only lost by the army, but also by the entire society, and their families in particular, as the writer explains.

The writer pointed out the need to ask urgent questions and ask about the benefit of continuing the current military operations, with increasing talk about a kind of “stumble” not only in the print media or the studios, but also among the upper ranks of the army.

He criticized statements by military leaders indicating that the army is on the verge of achieving "a decisive decision against Hamas." He said that these statements come in light of the necessity of making difficult decisions regarding continuing operations in Gaza or moving towards a peace agreement.

He continued that these decisions must be clear to everyone, because war always comes with sacrifices, and Israeli soldiers are no exception to that.

The writer quoted a senior officer as saying, "There are two options: either withdraw now, which means admitting to abandoning the war goals, or introduce more military divisions to launch a comprehensive attack, as was the case at the beginning of the war."

He stressed that the current situation has become more difficult and decisive decisions must be taken.

He added that the situation in northern Gaza is deteriorating, "and the entire Israeli society, not just the army, needs to know whether the ongoing sacrifices justify the current goals of the war, especially in light of the increasing voices demanding alternative solutions."

Israel to the American envoy: Our military operations in Rafah are nearing completion

Israeli Channel 12 said that Israel informed US envoy Amos Hockstein that its military operations in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip are nearing completion, amid talk about the occupation extending its control over most of the city’s neighborhoods.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that Israel informed the American envoy that the end of operations in Rafah would affect the region and the Lebanon front.

This comes at a time when the Israeli occupation army announced that it was able to tighten its control over about 60% to 70% of the city of Rafah, as part of its military operation that has been ongoing for 40 days.

The occupation army said that it suffered heavy losses during the battle, as 22 soldiers were killed and more than 300 of its members were wounded, at the very least.

He confirmed that he found more than 200 tunnel openings in the area, indicating that he is close to resolving the battle in Rafah, but he needs more weeks.

The occupation army said that during the military operation in the city, it found intelligence materials related to Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip, and places where they were held, suggesting that some of the prisoners were “smuggled” before the army entered Rafah.

Israeli Newspaper: The army is planning to move to the third phase of the war and hand over areas in the Gaza Strip to local elements..

A Hebrew newspaper said that after the end of the Rafah phase, the decision expected to be taken by the political echelon in Israel is to move to Phase C, or the third phase of the fighting.

Sources familiar with the details told the Hebrew newspaper Maariv that the next step will take the form of precise raids by Israeli army forces throughout the Gaza Strip.

The source reported that the plan to move to the third stage was prepared by the security establishment and is awaiting approval from the political level.

It is worth noting that Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari announced in January 2024 the start of a new phase in the Gaza war, “less intense in terms of ground operations.”

In an interview with the New York Times at the time, Hagari mentioned the reduction in the numbers of ground forces as well as the Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, saying, “The war has moved to a different phase, but this transition will not be accompanied by ceremonies.”

Hagari's statements at that time came in the wake of similar statements made by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to the Wall Street Journal, in which he said that the army was "in the process of moving from intensive military maneuvers to other modes of special operations."

Pilot project and punitive measures

Political sources say that the pilot project for the participation of local elements in areas inside Gaza, where Hamas’s presence is very weak, is ready, and will also be promoted subject to the approval of the political level.

The Hebrew newspaper explains that, at the same time, there does not appear to be a change in the position of the political level regarding the Palestinian Authority, as an agent capable of playing an effective role in the management of Gaza. On the contrary, in light of the measures taken by the Palestinian Authority against Israel on the international scene, it began The Political and Security Ministerial Council discussed a package of “punitive measures” against senior Palestinian Authority officials.

She indicated that the person promoting this package of measures is Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, as on Sunday he presented to the political government options to strengthen sanctions against the Palestinian Authority in addition to establishing four new settlements in the West Bank.

Smotrich announced that the decision, which was taken in coordination with the Prime Minister, comes against the backdrop of the Palestinian Authority’s attempt to mobilize support in the world to move against Israel in legal forums and achieve Israel’s recognition of the Palestinian state.

On Monday, the Israeli Minister of Finance published a special announcement about this file, confirming that although the proposal was not put to a vote on Sunday for technical reasons, he expected Netanyahu, as agreed upon, to submit the proposals this week.

Hebrew Channel 12: Netanyahu's government is planning to impose radical punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority

The Hebrew Channel 12 said in a report that the expanded cabinet plans to take dramatic and more radical punitive measures against the Palestinian Authority.

The report stated that among the punitive measures are studying the possibility of deporting senior officials and their families (residing illegally in the West Bank), and restricting movement in the West Bank on those involved in issuing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant.

Preventing these officials from traveling abroad, and arresting and prosecuting senior officials in the Palestinian Authority involved in incitement, supporting terrorism, and supporting the West Bank will also be studied.

The channel reported that Defense Minister Yoav Galant is the one who will examine these potential measures against the Palestinian Authority from an operational perspective.

The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, is planning to overthrow the Palestinian Authority despite the Israeli security system’s warning of the consequences of an explosion in that authority due to the series of measures that Smotrich plans to impose.

The newspaper explained that Smotrich presented, in the cabinet session, a series of measures to be implemented in the West Bank, including those directly targeting the Palestinian Authority. At the same time, Smotrich also intends to continue training some outposts. The new illegal settlements are among the same 63 outposts that he announced approximately two months ago that he would begin regularization procedures.

The Prime Minister's Office informed the Cabinet that it "discussed steps to strengthen settlements in the West Bank, in response to countries that announced unilateral recognition of the Palestinian state after the Hamas attack on October 7, as part of a series of anti-Palestinian Authority reactions after its actions against Israel in International forums.

It was noted that the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, and the government's legal advisor, Gali Beharev Meara, requested that they be given an additional period to make their comments on some items of the proposals, while the Israeli Prime Minister issued his instructions to put all the proposals to a vote at the next cabinet meeting.

Smotrich intends to build thousands of housing units in the settlements, and he also plans to build for the Palestinians in Area C, but in a way that does not harm the settlers’ strategic path to control Area C.

Smotrich also intends to continue directing strikes at the Palestinian Authority and imposing sanctions against it after appealing to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, against the backdrop of previous plans to overthrow the Palestinian Authority, in contrast to the position of the Israeli security system, which warns of serious security consequences in the scenario of the collapse of the Palestinian Authority.

According to the newspaper, Smotrich also plans to deny VIP permits to Palestinian officials, through which they can move relatively freely, even beyond the Green Line, and he also intends to begin enforcing illegal construction laws in Area B.

Gaza is rapidly heading toward famine, and more than 3,000 children are at risk of death

The government media office in Gaza said on Tuesday, “Gaza is rapidly heading toward famine, and the occupation and the American administration are leading a conspiracy to prevent aid and goods from reaching our people,” calling for immediate and urgent international intervention to stop this crime.

The government media office added in a statement: “The specter of famine is now directly threatening the lives of citizens, which portends an increase in the number of deaths due to hunger, especially among children, as 3,500 children are now threatened with death due to malnutrition and the lack of nutritional supplements and vaccinations, which have become prohibited from entering” to the sector.

It continued: "The crime of preventing the entry of aid and food as a tool for political pressure by the occupation and the American administration has noticeably doubled the suffering in all governorates. Even markets and shops are now suffering from a drought of goods and commodities due to preventing their entry 40 days after the complete closure of all crossings."

It called on the international community and international and international organizations to stand up to their responsibilities and call on them to take a courageous stance by imposing immediate and urgent international intervention to stop this crime. We also called for the opening of the Rafah crossing and the Kerem Shalom crossing, the entry of aid and goods, and an end to the ongoing genocidal war for the ninth month in a row.

Internal Israeli disputes: focus the war on Gaza or expand it against Lebanon and Iran

Disagreements have recently escalated between the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the two extremist ministers, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, and between the security apparatus, which is represented by the Minister of Defense, Yoav Galant, the Chief of Staff of the Army, Herzi Halevy, and the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar. These differences do not revolve around stopping or continuing the war, but rather about how to continue it, according to what Israeli newspapers reported today, Tuesday.

Maariv newspaper indicated that the Israeli army is hinting at ending its military operation in Rafah in the near future, claiming that it achieved “major achievements” during it, including occupying the Philadelphia axis, “killing 550” resistance fighters, and uncovering and controlling most of the tunnels.

The security apparatus calls for shifting focus to the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon and against Iran. On the other hand, Netanyahu, Smotrich and Ben Gvir reject any stopping of the war on Gaza, and they criticize the security apparatus in general and the army in particular for not achieving the goals of the war.

According to the military analyst in the newspaper "Haaretz", Amos Harel, "Gallant and the generals want to strive as quickly as possible to end the military operation in Rafah, move to limited incursions into the Gaza Strip and focus the army's efforts on preparing for the possibility of a comprehensive war with Hezbollah in the north." .

He added, "Netanyahu, according to all indications, is cautious about withdrawing from the Gaza Strip, and he does not share the opinion of Gallant and Halevy that seeking a kidnapped deal (prisoner exchange) has become urgent and important. According to the voices that have been rising from those around Netanyahu since the end of last week, he expects to face a storm." In the near future. Retired general close to Netanyahu, Evi Eitam, told 103FM radio that the war would last three years. A year in Gaza, a year in Lebanon, and a third year in order to “crystallize everything related to Iran.”

Harel seemed to question the army's claims that it had eliminated most of the Hamas forces in Rafah, and pointed out that its fighters were still targeting Israeli forces with anti-tank missiles and mines, about a month and a half after the start of the military operation in Rafah.

Harel continued, "It is difficult to explain to the public why soldiers were killed in Rafah and what is the goal of this military operation, except for clinging to the phrase 'absolute victory' which the Prime Minister repeats without any relationship with reality. Security coordination is shaky, and not only with the Americans. Control of the Rafah crossing is shaky." Egypt is angry, and it is now difficult to reach a settlement that guarantees the transfer of the crossing to other hands, without exposing the Israeli army forces to attacks on the narrow axis, for many months.”

The military analyst in the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Ron Ben Yishai, considered that, “In recent months, and especially since the Iranian attack on Israel in April, things have turned upside down. The war has turned from a Palestinian-Israeli event into a full-fledged regional war. Its results will have strategic, security and even existential consequences for the State of Israel and its citizens.”

He added that Hezbollah has become the central threat that Israel must quickly eliminate. Not only has Hezbollah emptied the northern Galilee of its population and sown destruction and fires in this region, but it is also holding hostage nearly 50,000 Israelis who cannot return to their homes as long as Nasrallah and Khamenei do not allow them to do so.

Ben Yishai repeated the claim of the Israeli security apparatus that Hamas has been greatly weakened and that the Israeli army “succeeds in preventing the outbreak of an intifada” in the West Bank, “but on the northern front the Israeli army is hardly succeeding in the meantime in achieving any important strategic goal, and of course not a goal.” It leads to Hezbollah requesting a ceasefire.”

In order to justify a wide-scale war, Ben Yishai considered that “the strategic importance is clear, which is that if Israel does not end the confrontation in the north with a clear resolution that restores deterrence, not only towards Hezbollah but also towards Iran, then we may face, within a few years, repeated attacks aimed at exhausting Israel.” Militaryly, and mainly psychologically, and making it collapse within itself.”

He continued, "This situation will worsen when, not long after, Iran possesses a nuclear weapon or the ability to manufacture such a weapon. The bottom line is that Israel is obligated to change the goals of the war. Defeating Hamas militarily and liberating the kidnapped is no longer enough. The north is the basis now, and it is not enough to return the situation to He preceded his time there and expected that Hezbollah’s missiles and drones would rust over time.

The American mediator arrives in Beirut from Israel

US envoy Amos Hockstein arrived on Tuesday in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, from Israel, on a visit of unannounced duration.

The National News Agency (official) reported that Hockstein arrived in the morning at Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut, noting that he will meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati this afternoon.

The American mediator is expected to discuss ways to stop the confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah on Lebanon's southern border, according to local newspapers.

On Monday, Hockstein began a visit to Israel as part of efforts to calm the confrontations on the border with Lebanon after they escalated significantly last week.

The American envoy met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, opposition leader Yair Lapid, and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant.

The Israeli President's Office said in a statement that the two sides discussed what it described as "the continuous attacks and missile launches from Hezbollah, instigated by Iran, towards the northern towns and cities (settlements) in Israel, and the urgent need to restore security on the northern border and allow the population (settlers) to return safely to their homes." (Northern Israel).”

Since October 8, 2023, Palestinian and Lebanese factions, most notably Hezbollah, have exchanged daily bombardments with the Israeli army. The factions say they stand in solidarity with Gaza, which is being exposed to a devastating Israeli war that has left more than 122,000 Palestinians dead and wounded.

In recent weeks, the “Blue Line” separating Israel and Lebanon has witnessed a remarkable escalation, and the United States has repeatedly called for it to be contained.

In October 2022, Lebanon and Israel, mediated by Hockstein, signed an agreement to demarcate the maritime borders, which Hezbollah considered at the time “a major victory for Lebanon, the state, the people and the resistance.”

It is worth noting that Israel has been occupying lands in southern Lebanon and the Syrian Golan Heights for decades.

The top two Democrats in Congress approved a massive arms deal to Israel

The Washington Post quoted three unnamed officials as saying that two senior Democratic members of the US Congress agreed to support a major arms deal to Israel that includes 50 F-15 fighter jets worth more than $18 billion.

The newspaper reported that Representative Gregory Meeks and Senator Ben Cardin signed the deal under intense pressure from the administration of President Joe Biden after the two lawmakers caused the sale to be postponed for several months.

"All of Chairman Cardin's issues and concerns have been addressed through our ongoing consultations with the administration, which is why he felt it was appropriate to allow this matter to move forward," Eric Harris, communications director for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement to the newspaper.

Meeks also told the newspaper that he is in close contact with the White House and is urging them to put pressure on Israel regarding humanitarian efforts and civilian casualties. The newspaper quoted him as saying that the F-15 aircraft would not be delivered for “years from now.”

Pressure is increasing on Biden from members of his Democratic Party because of his unlimited support for Israel in light of its ongoing 8-month attack on Gaza, which resulted in the martyrdom of more than 37,000 Palestinians and the displacement of nearly 2.3 million people.

The Shin Bet investigates the leak of security information after the Al-Aqsa flood

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) opened an investigation into suspicions of leaking information from within the Israeli security services after the 7th of October (Al-Aqsa Flood).

The authority explained that the Shin Bet is suspected of leaking information from the security services to Internet hackers who worked for Israel against enemy countries, but they caused great damage.

It added that Israeli cyber hackers exposed secret Israeli intelligence operations instead of achieving their goals.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation indicated that the attempt of cyber hackers to penetrate targets in several countries prompted the concerned countries to strengthen the fortification of the targets that were supposed to be attacked.

It said that since October 7, the pirates have tried to disrupt the infrastructure in some countries.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation claimed the existence of a document confirming that the Israeli army and intelligence were aware of the plan of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to carry out the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood 3 weeks before the date of the attack on October 7 last year.

The Commission indicated that the Gaza Division of the occupation army had prepared a document explaining Hamas’ plan and what it included in kidnapping between 200 and 250 hostages.

According to the broadcaster's claims, the document detailed the hostage-taking process and how to act in extreme cases.

It quoted a security source as saying that the document was known to the intelligence leadership and the Gaza Division leadership, at the very least.

After recognizing Palestine... Israeli moves to "intensify" settlement construction in the West Bank

The American CNN network reported that the Israeli government is considering "strengthening" Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank after several countries unilaterally recognized the Palestinian state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Prime Minister's Office said that all proposals to strengthen settlements in what biblical Israel refers to as Judea and Samaria will be voted on in the next session of the security cabinet.

Norway, Ireland, Spain and Slovenia have all recognized an independent Palestinian state in recent weeks, a move prompted at least in part by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's public refusal to commit to a two-state solution.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said, "This step is a reward for terrorism and will strengthen Hamas."

The statement also said that Israel will study the measures it will take against the Palestinian Authority as it takes measures against Israel in international bodies.

Earlier this month, the Palestinian Authority applied to join South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said in May that Israel must agree to build 10,000 settlements in the West Bank, create a new settlement for each country that recognizes the State of Palestine, and cancel travel permits for Palestinian Authority officials.

It is unclear whether any of these extreme ideas are part of the proposals currently under consideration in Israel.

Stanford University students withdraw from the graduation ceremony in solidarity with the Palestinian cause

Hundreds of students withdrew from the graduation ceremony at the prestigious Stanford University in California, yesterday, Sunday, as part of the spring wave of pro-Palestinian protests on American university campuses, according to what was reported by NBC News.

Students stood and began to walk away at the beginning of a speech by outgoing university president Richard Saller, who said: “Don’t let your convictions inhibit your ability to listen and learn.”

Videos verified by NBC News showed the graduation ceremony as students wearing black robes and cardinal red trim calmly walked away from their seats on the field at Stanford Stadium.

A group called Stanford Against Apartheid in Palestine organized an “alternative graduation” for those who started after the official commencement, according to a post on its Instagram page.

The event was held off campus, in the nearby town of Menlo Park, in support of fellow students who were reportedly banned from attending campus celebrations on Sunday after being arrested at previous pro-Palestinian protests.

"Join us today to celebrate and honor our detained comrades whose testimonies will be withheld because of their struggle against genocide," the group's post read.

Authorities said more than a dozen protesters were arrested on June 5 after they briefly took over the office of the president of Stanford University.

They said that some of them were expelled from the university.

The participants were part of the pro-Palestinian protests that called on the institution to withdraw its investments from Israel amid the fierce war it has been waging against Gaza since last October 7.
