Hezbollah rains rockets on northern Israel

Four settlers were injured, two of them seriously, on Thursday, after a barrage of rockets was fired from Lebanon at the Western Galilee region in northern Israel.

Israeli media reported that about 100 rockets were fired from Lebanon at Israeli towns since the morning hours.

Three military helicopters landed at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where they transported wounded Israeli soldiers.

He stated that the Israeli occupation army is concealing the extent of the losses it is suffering in Lebanon, speaking about important field developments on the Lebanese front since yesterday, where Israeli helicopters were seen transporting wounded soldiers to more than one hospital in central Israel, indicating the ferocity of the battles there and the occupation soldiers being exposed to losses and injuries in their ranks.

Sirens sounded in Nahariya, Safed, Malkiya, Misgav Am, and dozens of towns in the Upper and Western Galilee in northern Israel.

Hezbollah fired 50 rockets at the Western Galilee in two minutes, for the first time since the start of the war on Lebanon.

The Israeli police said that they had monitored the fall of missiles in two areas, the Western Galilee and the Acre area, which led to damage to parked cars.

Hezbollah operations

Hezbollah announced in separate statements that it had bombed the cities of Nahariya and Safed with two large missile salvos, the Zevulun military industries base north of Haifa with a missile salvo, and the Kiryat Shmona settlement with a missile salvo.

It also targeted the movements of the occupation forces in the Manara settlement with a missile salvo, the Dhour al-Habariyah pond with a missile salvo, and the surroundings of the town of Aitaroun with artillery shells.

Hezbollah fired rockets towards the settlement of Dovev, before sirens sounded in 23 areas in Nahariya, the Western Galilee and Malkiya in the Upper Galilee.

Palestinian President calls for the necessity of stopping the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people

It is time to stop the injustice, end the practices of relying on military force and prolonging the occupation.

We call on the world to compel Israel to implement the General Assembly resolution on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.

There is an urgent need for a more balanced and just global system to find effective solutions to the chronic issues that the world suffers from, most notably the Palestinian issue.

We rely heavily on the BRICS countries to establish the foundations of international peace and security.

The international community must reject and condemn the occupation’s decision to close UNRWA’s headquarters in Jerusalem and disrupt its work.

- Renewed the desire of the State of Palestine to join the BRICS group.

President Mahmoud Abbas called for the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution to immediately stop the Israeli aggression against our Palestinian people, allow humanitarian aid to enter, withdraw completely from the Gaza Strip, and for the State of Palestine to assume its full duties to return the displaced to their areas and rebuild.

In his speech at the BRICS summit held in the Russian city of Kazan on Thursday, the president said that achieving justice for the Palestinian people is the most important test at this historical stage, and the time has come to stop injustice, end the practices of relying on military force, and prolong the occupation.

His Excellency called on the countries of the world to implement the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and to oblige the occupation authorities to end their illegal presence on the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, within one year.

The President called for imposing sanctions on Israel if it does not implement the General Assembly resolution, and for working with the United Nations and the concerned parties to hold an international peace conference.

His Excellency stressed that there is an urgent need for a more balanced and just global system, especially in light of the failure of the institutions of the current international system to find effective solutions to the increasing crises and chronic issues that the world suffers from, most notably the Palestinian issue.

His Excellency said: In this context, we rely heavily on the BRICS countries, which have become an influential and decisive force in establishing the foundations of international peace and security.

His Excellency called on the international community to reject and condemn the Israeli government’s decision to close the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem and disrupt its work in caring for Palestinian refugees in the occupied State of Palestine, and to force it to reverse this decision.

The President reiterated the State of Palestine's desire to join the BRICS group, and to enhance partnership, dialogue and engagement in activities with its members, stressing the State of Palestine's full readiness to commit to the goals, practices and activities of this group, in order to achieve its objectives.

His Excellency thanked the Russian President for his invitation to participate in the work of this important group, which is being held to strengthen relations between the BRICS countries and the Global South, which will provide an opportunity to expand and strengthen dialogue and partnership in the fields of development, innovation, energy, culture, international security and peace, and to give a constructive impetus to resolving current regional and international issues, most notably the Palestinian issue.

The following is the text of the President's speech:

First of all, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Your Excellency and to the leaders of the Group for your kind invitation to us to participate in the work of this important group, which is being held to strengthen relations between the BRICS countries and the Global South. This will provide an opportunity to expand and strengthen dialogue and partnership in the areas of development, innovation, energy, culture, international security and peace, and to give a constructive impetus to resolving current regional and international issues, most notably the Palestinian issue, in order to build a better world.

In this regard, we extend our congratulations to the countries that have recently joined the BRICS group, namely Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran, on this accession, which constitutes a strong indicator of the group’s growing role and its great importance at the international level, hoping that the request for the State of Palestine to join the group will be accepted in the near future.

The great development witnessed by the BRICS group, and the increasing desire of a larger number of countries to join it, demonstrates the urgent need for a more balanced and just global system, especially in light of the failure of the institutions of the current international system to find effective solutions to the increasing crises and chronic issues that the world suffers from, most notably the Palestinian issue.

A whole year has passed since the greatest catastrophe that the Palestinian people have experienced since the Nakba of 1948, which is the Israeli war in which crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing are being committed in the Gaza Strip, in preparation for emptying it of its population, especially now in the northern Gaza Strip where the occupation forces are resorting to starving the population there. As well as the attacks of the occupation forces and terrorist settlers on the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, flouting international law, exposing the region to explosion and expanding the circle of conflict.

The Israeli government also decided to close the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem and suspend its work in caring for Palestinian refugees in the occupied State of Palestine, which requires the international community to reject and condemn it and force the Israeli government to back down from this decision.

Therefore, there is an urgent and pressing need to implement the UN Security Council resolution for an immediate ceasefire, the entry of humanitarian aid, the complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the State of Palestine assuming its full duties to return the displaced to their areas and rebuild.

Leaders and heads of delegations,

Achieving justice for the Palestinian people is the most important test at this historical stage, after 76 years of Nakba, displacement and suffering for the entire Palestinian people. The time has come to stop injustice, end the practices of relying on military force and prolonging the occupation. Therefore, we call on the countries of the world to implement the General Assembly resolution on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and oblige the occupation authorities to end their illegal presence on the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, within one year, and impose sanctions on them in the event of their failure to comply, and work with the United Nations and the concerned parties to hold an international peace conference. In this context, we rely greatly on the BRICS countries, which have become an influential and decisive weight in establishing the foundations of international peace and security.

Leaders and heads of delegations,

The State of Palestine considers the principles on which the BRICS group is based an integral part of its policy that believes in justice, mutual respect and common prosperity, and which represent the aspirations of our people. We extend our thanks to the BRICS leaders for their courageous positions in supporting the Palestinian cause and our people achieving their freedom and independence.

In this regard, we renew the desire of the State of Palestine to join the BRICS group, and to enhance partnership, dialogue and engagement in activities with its members, stressing our full readiness to commit to the purposes, practices and activities of this group, in order to achieve its goals and achieve a strategic partnership to build a better future for humanity.

Blinken: Israel needs to do more to get aid into Gaza

  1. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Israel needs to show “more progress” on aid flows to Gaza, the State Department said. Blinken told reporters in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, a day after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed Israeli officials on the need to increase aid flows to the Gaza Strip. Blinken said he discussed “urgent and sustainable steps” needed from Israel to improve humanitarian conditions.

  2. "I can confirm that there is progress, which is good, but more progress needs to be made, and more importantly, it needs to continue," Blinken said, referring to the flow of aid to Gaza.

  3. According to media reports, the United States has warned that continued flow of American weapons to Israel could depend on improvements in humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where Israel has sharply reduced aid in recent months. Blinken did not explicitly threaten to withhold weapons but said Washington would follow U.S. law, which requires it to withdraw military aid to countries that block the flow of American humanitarian aid.

  4. Shortly before Blinken left for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, sirens went off in Tel Aviv as Israeli air defenses intercepted projectiles fired from Lebanon. Blinken was directed to an area of his hotel to take cover.

  5. According to experts, it seems that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's visit to the Middle East, which may be his last under President Joe Biden, and which he began in Israel, was not more fortunate than similar visits he made during the year of the war on Gaza.

  6. There are no statements indicating that Israel has yielded to American diplomatic pressure to end the war in Gaza, nor is there an announcement of flexibility in the Israeli position that would contribute to reaching a hostage agreement.

  7. However, Blinken insisted on calling on Israel to end the war based on the new facts imposed by the military operations on the ground, most notably the "killing of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Yahya Sinwar," and he also stressed an American position that completely rejects the reoccupation of Gaza.

  8. Blinken, who arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, coming from Israel, considered that there are other paths that can contribute to stability in the Middle East that pass through Saudi Arabia, according to analysts. Washington sees the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel as a strategic reward that could entice Israel to stop the war.

  9. In Rome, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Israel had a military interest in allowing humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza. “Failure to do so creates a generation of Palestinians who will continue to really resist cooperation with Israel in the future, and so you’re actually increasing the number of insurgents in the space,” he said, according to the Washington Post.

  10. Georgios Petropoulos, the head of the UN humanitarian office in Gaza, painted a desperate picture of the northern part of the enclave, describing conditions in areas where fighting has resumed as “catastrophic.” Israel has stepped up its military operations in the northern Gaza Strip in recent weeks on the grounds that Hamas fighters are regrouping there.

  11. Health officials postponed the third phase of a polio vaccination programme to inoculate more than 119,000 children in northern Gaza on Wednesday, citing escalating violence amid the Israeli offensive. The World Health Organisation said the heavy bombardment made it impossible for medical workers to safely vaccinate children.

Amidst the worsening famine disaster: Northern Gaza Strip has been subjected to the most heinous massacres for 20 days

For 20 days now, the northern Gaza Strip has been subjected to the most heinous massacres, as the occupation deliberately aims to completely displace citizens, through intensifying aerial and artillery bombardment, by air and land, on residential areas that no longer exist, putting hospitals out of service, and preventing the entry of food and medicine supplies, which has exacerbated the famine disaster in a frightening manner.

The occupation army continues to blow up and burn homes and residential areas in Jabalia camp, and the Saftawi and Tuwam areas, to force citizens to move south.

Despite the bombing and the war of extermination committed by the occupation in Jabalia and Beit Lahia, many citizens refuse to leave their homes, while the occupation continues to besiege the displaced, the sick, and the medical staff in the hospitals of the north.

Dozens of martyrs and wounded in the streets of Beit Lahia and Jabalia camp, and the occupation prevents their transfer to hospitals, which it besieges, and targets the displaced, patients, and medical crews upon entering or exiting them.

The Saftawi area is also being subjected to continuous artillery shelling and heavy gunfire, as are the western and eastern neighborhoods of the Nuseirat camp.

The occupation forces continue their aggression on the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, since October 7, 2023, which resulted in the death of 42,792 citizens and the injury of 100,412 others, the majority of whom are children and women, in an incomplete toll, as thousands of people are still missing under the rubble.

German representative to the Authority visits Al-Quds newspaper

The German representative to the Palestinian Authority, Oliver Owcza, visited the newspaper “A” yesterday morning, Wednesday, and met with the editor-in-chief, Ibrahim Melhem, who informed him about the progress of work in the newspaper, its establishment, and its work departments.

Mr. Ovcha expressed his appreciation for the role played by the newspaper, its digital platforms, its influence and the diversity of opinions it publishes, noting that he is keen to have it in his office every day.

The discussion touched on the statements made by German Foreign Minister Annella Baerbock a few days ago, which sparked widespread criticism.

Ovcha said that the minister's statements were taken out of context. She said: "Civilian facilities are protected and do not lose this status unless they are exploited by militants," recalling Germany's positions supporting the two-state solution, calling for providing relief aid to those affected in the Gaza Strip, and its continued support for stopping the war on both sides and releasing detainees, including German citizens, through an exchange deal, to put an end to the ongoing suffering in the Strip.

One year of war set Gaza back 70 years

op-ed - Al-Quds dot com

The occupation's massacres in the Gaza Strip continued with the commission of six of them, with more than 74 martyrs and about 150 wounded arriving at hospitals in just 24 hours, in extremely painful and shocking scenes, with great Israeli insistence to continue destroying all the components of Palestinian life as the siege of the northern Gaza Strip continues for the twentieth consecutive day.

Things have become beyond human control, everything has been killed and destroyed by Israel and turned into complete rubble, the houses and residential blocks that are being bombed daily, the targeted shelters, the torn refugee tents, the attempts to displace and uproot from the land that have increased in intensity, as the Israeli army has forced the citizens to leave, and the level of food security has reached a very great danger, as it is witnessing a humanitarian disaster in every sense of the word due to Israel preventing the entry of vital relief supplies, including water, food, fuel and medicine, in addition to the ongoing killing campaign and arrests that have affected dozens of blindfolded people in shameful occupation practices, and the lack of basic services in hospitals that operate with minimal capabilities due to the Israeli siege, and the deprivation of children from obtaining the second dose of the polio vaccine and putting their lives at risk.

What happened and is happening in one year, as the UNRWA Commissioner-General said, has returned Gaza to the early fifties, and the war has destroyed the economy and all of Gaza’s residents are in a state of poverty with declining life indicators.

Who will open safe humanitarian corridors to bring in fuel and medical supplies before it is too late? Who will open the crossings and pave the strip’s destroyed streets and roads for the arrival of food aid trucks? Who will bring the autumn cloak and protect Gaza’s children from the sting of the cold? Who will bring milk to the infants so they can survive? Who will stop the killing, destruction, displacement and uprooting? Who will dare to speak the truth to support the defenseless civilian people?

In every aspect of Palestinian life, there is pain, suffering, sadness, regret and crying. Human life is no longer possible in light of this terrible destruction. The world, as usual, remains silent every time, fearing Israel, which plays the role of the executioner in our region. Even the weak hopes that some people hope that diplomatic tours will carry a glimmer of hope for reaching a deal, a truce or a ceasefire, are fading because a visit like the one made by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to the region comes to support Israel and legitimize its war and aggression against our defenseless Palestinian people. Therefore, our people do not believe in such fake diplomatic solutions, because the real solution to the war is to stop it, end the occupation, punish Israel, expel it from all international bodies and allow our people to live in dignity and freedom. This seems difficult because the world allows Israel to wage its war on our people without any mercy or compassion.

The international community and Palestine!!

There is no doubt that the course of events since the occupation of Palestine in 1947 and then in 1967 to the uprisings, invasions, catastrophes and setbacks, up to October 7, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq and everything in between and around them to this day, and the international community with its institutions issues decisions, whether from the various international institutions to the United Nations, up to the UN Security Council, and they are in the hundreds, but has a single decision been implemented?

Certainly not, and not a single decision related to Palestine will be implemented, because the nature of the formation of these international institutions and their formations is completely tailored to specific interests and specific countries as well, and these specific major countries that are still captive to a defunct colonial mentality legislate as they wish, issue decisions as they wish, and subjugate all international institutions to their will, which in any case is in their interests. Some may say that Palestine obtained important decisions, and this is true, but they did not touch on the essence of the Palestinian cause related to independence, statehood, protection, and stopping harm to the Palestinian people in general. Since the beginning of this century, acts of violence, terrorism, and attempts to erase, assimilate, and uproot the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have been escalating, resulting in the killing of thousands of Palestinian civilians, in addition to the expansion of the construction of Israeli settlements and outposts, which have become organized and planned and not random, leading to war and bloody aggression, which is classified at the very least as a war of genocide, the commission of massacres, slaughters, displacement, forced displacement, and repeated attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian civilians, in addition to repeated threats from the Israeli military leadership and successive occupation governments, the latest of which is the most extremist Netanyahu government, to annex more Palestinian lands and expel Palestinians from Jerusalem, in addition to the tense situation in the West Bank; as the Palestinians have no way to exercise their rights stipulated in international law, including their right to self-determination. For decades, Israel, the occupying power, has continued to violate international law with complete impunity, and to constantly ignore and undermine UN resolutions, with the assistance of Western governments.

As the United Nations has indicated in many of its reports, Israel is pursuing a comprehensive policy of demographic engineering and granting land and resources to its “Jewish” citizens only, after seizing Palestinian property and land, and depriving them, including refugees, of their basic inalienable rights, in violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, in practices that amount to the crime of apartheid.

In return, what is required?

There is no doubt that this escalation, the most violent, deadly and displacing in the episodes of the Israeli-Arab conflict, which has unfortunately become Palestinian, and for more than fifty years, requires a new approach from all parties and from the international community; as the protection of civilians in the occupied territories of the State of Palestine should be the priority of all international parties, at the present urgent time and in the future, until the Palestinian people obtain their legitimate national rights, which are recognized by international resolutions and charters.

The international community as a whole bears the responsibility of protecting civilians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and bears responsibility for the crimes that have been and are being committed against them. It should not be allowed to evade this responsibility, but rather it should be activated and developed. What I mean here is international protection and also holding decision-makers accountable for all decisions that have contributed directly or indirectly to increasing the suffering of Palestinian civilians. This will not happen on its own, and we cannot rely on politicians alone. Rather, humanitarian and legal organizations and human rights activists around the world can submit their reports, reviews and visions of the violations, crimes and horrors that have been committed against the Palestinian people over more than 76 years.

The repercussions of the war of extermination and the risks of expanding the conflict

Sari Al Qudwa

Sari Al Qudwa

Opinion Writer

The extremist Israeli government and its extremist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are working to liquidate the Palestinian presence, end the Palestinian national project, and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. The heinous crimes committed by the occupation aim to break the will of the Palestinian people and liquidate the cause, but they have not succeeded in doing so, nor have they succeeded in providing security and peace for themselves and their people, because peace does not come this way. Over the course of more than 76 years since the establishment of Israel until now, it has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and hundreds of leaders and fighters, but it has not been able to annihilate the Palestinian people, nor has it been able to extinguish the flame of the Palestinian struggle, nor has it succeeded in liquidating its national presence and existence.

The extremist government continues its attempts to destroy the Palestinian national project and confront any international steps aimed at supporting the establishment of the Palestinian state by allowing the extreme right-wing bloc to control decision-making in the occupying state, which contributes to fighting Palestinian institutions, striking at the unity of the Palestinian people, seeking to transform the Palestinian cause into a mere humanitarian issue, working to weaken the institutions of the Palestinian state, fighting any Palestinian control over the land in the West Bank by storming cities, deploying settler militias, continuing to implement plans to steal more Palestinian lands, working to annex the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to the occupying state, implementing the plan to deport the Palestinian people, turning the Strip into an area unfit for living and habitation, and depriving its residents of their simple rights to live by starving them and forcing them to leave, which contributes to deepening the open occupation war on the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian cause has always been present throughout the decades, and the Palestinian people are still clinging to their occupied land, and they are fully aware of the displacement plan, and they are fully aware of this matter, and therefore the Palestinian considers displacement a red line and insists on remaining in northern Gaza despite all the dangers practiced by Israel, the criminal state, to force the residents to leave, and abandon their homes and places of residence, and they have not and will not leave under any circumstances, in order to protect the Palestinian cause and prevent its liquidation, and to preserve Palestinian rights and Arab national security.

The danger of the continuation of the war in Gaza, and the expansion of the scope of violations witnessed in the West Bank, which pushes towards the expansion of the conflict, and leads to negative repercussions on all the peoples of the region, and on international peace and security, and that the goal of the occupation has become clear, which is to liquidate the Palestinian cause, and transform the Palestinian territories into uninhabitable areas with the aim of displacing Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

There is no doubt that the national priorities at this stage require working to restore the unity of the Palestinian people, and protecting the national struggle and liberation struggle within the framework of legitimate confrontation with the occupation, which is the sole beneficiary of the existing state of political division that is gnawing at the Palestinian body.

It is necessary to work to confront this plan through a Palestinian national strategy that supports urgent action, the necessity of continuing to support Palestinian steadfastness, obtaining full legitimate rights, and establishing an independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the importance of putting an end to all repercussions of the Israeli aggression and the war of extermination, the importance of reaching a comprehensive truce that ends the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip, and the necessity of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, as an immediate step that must be taken to protect the security of the region and prevent the expansion of the circle of conflict.

There are no words that can adequately describe the extent of the pain, oppression and suffering that families in the Gaza Strip, especially those living in the north in Jabalia, Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia, have been enduring for nineteen days.

The phrases exploded like tears from the eyes that had been frozen with the tears of the tragedy that had been ongoing for more than a year, causing the hearts of adults and children to bleed because of its extreme cruelty, and the mountains to groan under its weight.

Everything that our fathers and grandfathers told us, or what we heard, or what we read in the books of ancient and modern historians about the brutal crimes committed by the Zionist gangs, from Deir Yassin to Tantura, despite their horror and the sadism of their perpetrators, is not worth a drop in the ocean of blood flowing in every house, street and neighborhood, which is being shed today by the descendants of those gangs, using advanced means in the arts of genocide, without having yet reached the stage of satiation!

The oppressive state derives its strength and the permanence of its crimes from the excess power granted to it by natural breastfeeding from its major ally and partner in the massacre, as it bestows upon it its excess dominance, so that its crimes are “sterile” and not subject to accountability or questioning, even if they reach the International Criminal Court.

“We can’t take it anymore, enough… enough,” said a woman grieving the loss of some of her children and the arrest of others who were taken from her hands during their forced deportation from Jabalia last night.

Israeli preparations to attack Iran

The New York Times published an article on Wednesday, referring to Israeli preparations to attack Iran. It notes that for decades, Iran and Israel have been engaged in a covert war, and this year, the conflict between them exploded into the open.

Israel is now preparing to launch a military strike on Iran - in response to Iran's firing of about 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1.

The newspaper quotes Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant as saying that his country's counterattack would be "deadly, precise and above all, surprising." The newspaper speculates that the strike, if it happens, could expand the regional conflict that erupted with a deadly attack on Israel on October 7 of last year by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The newspaper presents its conclusion regarding the possible Israeli military action against Iran, and the events that brought the two countries to this point.

When will the strikes happen?

The newspaper says: No one knows when the strike will be. It points out that during a previous exchange of air strikes in April, Israel waited only about five days to respond to a similar Iranian attack.

But various factors may have dictated a longer period before responding this time, including talks between Israel and the Biden administration, the arrival of the American air defense system and the Jewish holidays. The upcoming US elections could also have an impact on Israeli timing.

The newspaper also points to two secret American intelligence documents leaked last week that describe satellite images of Israeli military preparations for a possible strike on Iran, offering insight into American concerns about the plans. One document described recent exercises that appeared to be rehearsals for strike elements, while the second shows how Israel is repositioning its missiles and weapons in case Iran responds with another strike. (The FBI said Tuesday it is investigating the leak of the document.)

What are the possible Israeli goals?

Analysts say there are several categories of targets. Israel could try to balance its strategic goals of severely weakening Iran’s proxy forces — Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza — with the concerns of its allies, especially the United States, that a new attack could ignite a wider regional war.

Two U.S. officials told the newspaper that the Israeli government has told the Biden administration that it will avoid striking nuclear enrichment and oil production sites in Iran. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomacy, said Israel has agreed to focus its attacks on military targets in Iran. Avoiding nuclear or oil infrastructure sites would reduce the likelihood of an all-out war between the two adversaries, amid concerns in Washington about being drawn into a wider Middle East confrontation with the presidential election less than two weeks away.

But what are the Israeli military capabilities?

If Israel wants to use its powerful air power to respond, its planes will have to fly long distances. But it has recently shown that it is capable of doing so.

In attacks against the Houthis in Yemen in late September, Israeli forces flew more than a thousand miles to attack power plants and shipping infrastructure, using surveillance aircraft and dozens of fighter jets that had to be refueled mid-flight. An attack on Iran would require similar range.

Iran has much stronger air defenses than Lebanon and Yemen, but Israel has shown that it may have advantages beyond Iran's capabilities.

In April, in response to Iran’s first missile attack, an Israeli airstrike damaged an S-300 anti-aircraft system near Natanz, a city in central Iran that is critical to the country’s nuclear weapons program. Western and Iranian officials said Israel deployed drones and fired at least one missile from a warplane in that attack.

This strike showed that Israel is capable of bypassing and crippling Iran's defense systems, according to estimates.

“I think it’s likely that they will copy the April operation and try to take out Iran’s early warning systems and air defenses to clear the way for an air attack,” Grant Rumley, a former Pentagon official and senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a pro-Israel lobbying group, said in a previous interview. “The question will be how broad their scope is and whether they will enter Iranian airspace.”

According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington think tank, Israel also has other options: the Jericho 2 medium-range ballistic missile that can fly about 2,000 miles, and the Jericho 3 medium-range ballistic missile that can reach targets more than 4,000 miles away.

What is the US government's position?

US President Joe Biden said this month he would not support an attack on Iran's nuclear sites.

Biden said yes last week when asked if he knew when Israel would strike and what kind of targets it would choose. He did not elaborate, but his response suggests the United States and Israel may have reached an agreement on the matter. Antony J. Blinken, the U.S. secretary of state, held a lengthy meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday. Some analysts say the looming U.S. presidential election makes it harder for the United States to influence and limit any potential Israeli action. The fact that Mr. Biden is not seeking a second term may also weaken his hand in terms of influencing Israeli action, they say.

How did Israel and Iran get to this point?

Experts claim that for decades, Iran and Israel have been engaged in what amounts to a covert war. Iran has used proxy forces including Hamas and Hezbollah to attack Israeli interests, and Israel has assassinated senior Iranian officials and nuclear scientists, as well as launched cyberattacks. This conflict burst into the open this year.

Last April, Iran unleashed a barrage of missiles and drones into Israel, attacking the country directly for the first time in response to an Israeli strike on an embassy compound in the Syrian capital of Damascus that killed three top Iranian commanders. Israel essentially thwarted the Iranian missile barrage using its air defenses, with help from the United States and other allies, and then responded with an attack of its own.

Then in late July, Israeli aircraft killed a senior commander of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group, Fouad Shukr, in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, in response to a missile attack that killed at least 12 people. A day later, Hamas’s political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an explosion in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

The Iranian government and Hezbollah have vowed to respond, but to the surprise of many, Iran has taken no immediate action.

When it fired its missiles on October 1, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it was avenging Mr. Haniyeh’s assassination, as well as the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in late September, as well as the killing of an Iranian commander.

Days after the death of Hassan Nasrallah, Israel invaded southern Lebanon, bombing Hezbollah, Iran's most important proxy.

UNRWA: Northern Gaza is witnessing a humanitarian disaster in light of the lack of food security

The acting media officer of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, Enas Hamdan, warned that the level of food security in the Gaza Strip is at risk, especially in the northern areas that are witnessing a humanitarian disaster, calling for the necessity of allowing the entry of vital relief supplies, including food, water, fuel and medicine.

According to the organization's official website, Hamdan said in a statement on Wednesday, "This is the situation that UNRWA and other UN organizations have warned about for months. The scenes in the north are shocking and terrifying. Families have been under siege for more than two weeks. Homes, infrastructure, and even their facilities in those areas, such as a shelter and a school, have been bombed in the past few days, while not allowing enough supplies and relief aid to enter for the population."

She explained that according to reports, "most food supplies have run out, there is not enough potable water and fuel shortage, and a large number of victims are falling in addition to the bodies lying in the streets, in light of the inability to access the necessary medical services and care. The three main hospitals there are also operating at the lowest capabilities and above their capacity, and two of them have been directly bombed for days."

She pointed out that UNRWA employees continue to provide services despite all the challenges throughout the year, but they are besieged with the population and are trying as much as possible to provide them with what can be provided to them in these circumstances, and they are demanding the dispatch of medical teams to support their work and the necessary supplies.

Deaths and wounded in the occupation's bombing of areas in the Gaza Strip

A number of citizens were killed and others were injured on Wednesday after the occupation forces bombed various areas in the Gaza Strip.

Medical sources reported that two citizens were killed after being targeted by an Israeli drone near Al-Yaman Al-Saeed Hospital in Jabalia camp, north of the Gaza Strip.

Two citizens were killed and at least four others were injured when an Israeli drone bombed a group of citizens in Khirbet al-Adas, north of Rafah city, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Three citizens were killed and dozens were injured, after the occupation bombed Al-Zahraa School, which shelters displaced people east of Gaza City.

The occupation artillery targeted areas northwest of Nuseirat in the central Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu Rejects Blinken's Request to Publicly Deny 'Generals' Plan'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides rejected a request from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to say publicly that Israel is not carrying out an ethnic cleansing plan in northern Gaza, known as the “generals’ plan,” The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The report said Netanyahu and his top aide Ron Dermer told Blinken that the generals’ plan was “not our policy at all” and that the perception was “very damaging to us.” But when asked to say so publicly, they declined.

The Times of Israel also reported that Netanyahu refused the request to publicly denounce the ethnic cleansing plan.

While Israeli officials have told the United States that they are not implementing an ethnic cleansing plan, Israeli soldiers told Haaretz last week that it is already underway in northern Gaza, where Israel has ordered hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee south and imposed a total blockade. More than 500 Palestinians have been killed in the renewed offensive, which has focused on the Jabaliya refugee camp. The general’s plan calls for the forced evacuation of all Palestinians from northern Gaza. Under the plan, after a certain period of time, the entire north would be declared a closed military zone, and anyone left behind would be killed by military action or by a starvation siege.

Completing the generals’ plan could pave the way for Jewish settlements in Gaza, an idea favored by many Israeli ministers and Knesset members. At a “Gaza Resettlement” conference on Monday, May Golan, a member of Netanyahu’s Likud party and minister of social equality, called for a new “Nakba” in Gaza.

Haaretz: Netanyahu Sells Gaza to Private Militias

The Israeli opposition has long attacked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for its lack of any vision or plan of action for the future of the conflict, but what many people overlook is that the lack of coherent plans does not mean that Netanyahu has no policy, according to Noa Landau, deputy editor-in-chief of Haaretz.

The writer believes that Netanyahu is indeed following a clear policy, but she explains in her article in the same newspaper that Netanyahu’s policies are translated into actions on the ground, not official statements or declarations.

She says that throughout his years in power, Netanyahu has benefited from deliberate ambiguity, including broadcasting contradictory messages in Hebrew and English, “but reality does not lie.” In this way, and very slowly, large parts of the West Bank were annexed de facto, without legislation “intended to be ridiculously impressive.” This is exactly what is happening now in the Gaza Strip, according to the article.

Landau explains that despite the attacks by his opponents, Netanyahu is implementing a plan in stages; First, it is based on occupying large areas of the Gaza Strip, expelling the population, destroying their homes, paving new roads and building military sites and other infrastructure in the long term.

She adds that this phase is currently being implemented by pushing for a plan to transfer civilian control over Gaza to private companies, specifically to "local entities with administrative experience that are not affiliated with countries or organizations that support terrorism," and Israel will pay for this.

Netanyahu is implementing a plan in stages; first, it is based on occupying large areas of the Gaza Strip, expelling the population, destroying their homes, paving new roads and building military sites and other infrastructure in the long term.

Then comes the transfer of responsibility for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip to the Israeli army (a reference to a military government).

The deputy editor-in-chief of Haaretz reveals that a decision is currently being made to appoint a private Israeli-American company to take on the task after the army refused to undertake it.

The company being considered is said to be GDC, a military contractor of the type that operated in Iraq and Afghanistan during the American occupation of both countries.

According to the article, numerous studies conducted over the years on this strategy have shown that it involves great risks. The entities entrusted with this type of work are “mercenary companies,” and there are many questions about their commitment to international law and standards.

The writer believes that this will essentially lead to the privatization of military rule in Gaza by handing it over to private companies with special financial interests and nothing else. “The goal is to transfer moral and legal responsibility from Israel to these armed militias.”

Netanyahu’s plan for the post-war on the Gaza Strip consists of “military occupation, mercenaries and settlements, and this is a sure recipe for the coming disaster.”

The article quotes the company’s founder and CEO, Moti Kahana, in an interview with Yedioth Ahronoth on Tuesday, as saying, “If something happens, we will send a message to the residents of Gaza that you don’t mess with us.” Landau describes this warning as similar to that issued by mafia gangs.

The author of the article expresses her belief that what Israel aims for in all this is to prevent the Palestinian Authority from gaining a foothold in the Gaza Strip, and thus weaken it, a policy that Netanyahu has been implementing throughout his years in power.

She points out that the current plan gives private contracting companies the keys to civilian control of the Gaza Strip, thus turning the Strip into another Iraq, which will be "a tragedy for generations."

She concludes by saying that Netanyahu's plan for the post-war on the Gaza Strip consists of "military occupation, mercenaries and settlements, and this is a sure recipe for the coming disaster."

Six deaths, including a doctor, and wounded in the occupation's bombing of the northern Gaza Strip

Six citizens, including a doctor and a nurse, were killed and others were injured, Wednesday afternoon, when the occupation forces bombed Jabalia and Beit Lahia camps in the northern Gaza Strip.

Medical sources reported that a doctor and a nurse were killed after being targeted by an occupation drone near Kamal Adwan Hospital.

The same sources added that four martyrs were killed and others were injured when the occupation bombed a house in Jabalia al-Balad.

The occupation army continues to besiege hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, execute and displace citizens, and forcibly remove them from shelters, for the 19th consecutive day.

The occupation forces have continued their aggression on the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, since October 7, 2023, which has resulted in the death of 42,718 citizens and the injury of 100,282 others, the majority of whom are children and women, in an incomplete toll, as thousands of people are still missing under the rubble.

For the 19th day: A war of extermination amidst a siege, forced displacement and famine in the northern Gaza Strip

The Israeli occupation army continues to commit a war of genocide, launching air and artillery raids, blowing up homes, forcibly displacing, starving, and brutally targeting schools, shelters, and hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, especially Jabalia camp and Beit Lahia town, for the 19th consecutive day, amidst a tight siege that prevents the entry of food, water, fuel, and medicine, leaving hundreds of martyrs and wounded.

Citizens are suffering from extremely difficult conditions, in light of the continuous and violent bombardment by the occupation's aircraft and artillery, as hospitals face a tight siege, and entry and exit are prevented.

Eyewitnesses recount horrific details about the occupation’s crimes and brutality in the north, the separation of men from women, and even children who were lost from their mothers during forced displacement, in addition to the unknown fate of hundreds of them, not to mention the lack of shrouds to cover the bodies of the martyrs.

Today, the occupation army emptied Al-Fakhoura School in Jabalia camp of displaced people, stripped some of them of their clothes, and ordered them to head to a checkpoint near the Indonesian Hospital.

Meanwhile, the displaced were forced to bury the bodies of their martyrs in the public streets without shrouding, after the shrouds ran out due to the tight siege and intensive bombardment that the occupation army has been waging on the area for 19 days.

The famine and thirst crisis have also greatly worsened in the northern Gaza Strip, with the occupation refusing to allow any trucks carrying food or aid into the Strip.

The occupation's cutting off of communications and the Internet in the area several days ago caused a shortage of videos and photos documenting what is happening to the displaced, in addition to the difficulty of communicating with the residents.

Inas Hamdan, Acting Media Officer of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza, confirmed in a press statement today that the level of food security in the Gaza Strip is at risk, especially in the northern areas that are witnessing a humanitarian disaster, and it is necessary to allow the entry of vital relief supplies, which are the necessities of life, such as food, water, fuel, and medicine.

“This is the situation that UNRWA and other UN agencies have been warning about for months,” Hamdan said. “The scenes in the north are shocking and terrifying. Families have been under siege for more than two weeks. Homes and infrastructure are being bombed, and even UNRWA facilities in those areas, such as a shelter and a school, have been bombed in recent days, while not enough supplies and relief aid have been allowed to reach the population.”

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, stated yesterday, “People in northern Gaza are just waiting for death. The smell of death is everywhere, as bodies are left lying on the roads or under the rubble, and missions to remove them or provide humanitarian assistance are refused.”

The occupation forces have continued their aggression on the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, since October 7, 2023, which has resulted in the martyrdom of 42,718 citizens and the injury of 100,282 others, the majority of whom are children and women, in an incomplete toll, as thousands of people are still missing under the rubble.

Blinken: It's time to end the Gaza war

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters in Tel Aviv on Wednesday that it was time to end the war in Gaza.

“Since October 7, a year ago, Israel has achieved most of its strategic objectives with regard to Gaza,” Blinken said. “Now is the time to turn these successes into lasting, strategic success.”

He commented on the aid provided to Gaza, saying: “Progress has been made, which is good, but more progress must be made, and more importantly, it must continue.”

Earlier this month, Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin called on Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, or US military aid to it would be reduced.

In this regard, Netanyahu denied allegations that Israel is imposing an intensive blockade to starve the residents of northern Gaza. More than two weeks ago, Israel launched a large-scale military attack on northern Gaza, especially inside the Jabalia refugee camp.

More than 400,000 people have found themselves trapped in the northern Gaza Strip, under Israeli attacks.

60% of Germans oppose military support for Israel: Survey

A majority of Germans are against providing military support to Israel, despite the government’s recent decision to resume weapons supplies, according to a new poll released Tuesday, Anadolu Agency reports.

The survey revealed that 60 per cent of respondents oppose supplying arms to Israel, as the Netanyahu government intensifies its attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, heightening concerns of a wider conflict in the Middle East. Only 31 per cent of those surveyed said Germany should send weapons to ensure Israel’s security, while 9 per cent were undecided.

The poll was conducted after media reports indicated that Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition government had decided to resume arms supplies to Israel. This decision followed assurances from Tel Aviv that it would comply with international law when using German military equipment.

Germany had reportedly halted weapons supplies to Israel in March, after Nicaragua brought a case against Berlin before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of aiding “genocide” in Gaza.

Germany has long been a key ally of Israel, with Chancellor Scholz often emphasizing Germany’s special responsibility for Israel’s security due to its Nazi past.

However, critics argue that Germany’s unwavering support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is damaging its international credibility and further isolating Berlin on the global stage. Since Israel began its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza last October, more than 42,600 Palestinians have been killed, and over 100,000 others wounded, most of them women and children.

Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the ICJ over its actions in Gaza, where millions of Palestinians remain displaced and face severe shortages of food, medical supplies and other essentials.

Settlers' message to the descendants of the Palestinians

The conference on reviving settlement in the Gaza Strip was a very dangerous turning point, due to the statements calling for the killing of the remaining Palestinians in Gaza, coinciding with the scenes of continuous displacement from the northern part of the Strip.

With the attendance of hundreds of extremist settlers from the right-wing and hardline nationalist movement, a conference was held to revive the idea of establishing Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip, after the evacuation operation in 2005, which did not please large sectors of Israelis.

As usual, at the forefront of these gatherings is the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, who said: (If we want...

We can settle again in Gaza), threatening to revive Gush Katif, Kfar Darom, Atzmona and other settlements, claiming that the land of Palestine belongs to Israel, and that Gaza is theirs forever, encouraging the displacement of the Palestinians.

The most prominent statements focused on the need to keep Israeli forces in Gaza in order to protect Israel (Inbal Fitoussi) and to make Hamas pay a heavy ideological price for the war it waged against them (Tzvi Sukkot of the Zionist Party), but what Minister of Social Equality May Golan said was a crossing of all red lines when she claimed that whoever received land and used it to carry out a new holocaust against the Israelis will receive from Israel a catastrophe that he will continue to talk about for more than eighty years to his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. What will the Jews do with those who killed, kidnapped and raped, according to her claims and allegations?

Daniela Weiss, head of the Nahala Settlement Organization, went further and more dangerously when she said that the Gazans will not remain in Gaza, and Hamas has no choice but to kill them to the last person. As for those who want to live a normal life, let them live in countries around the world. After October 7, there is no room for Palestinians to live in Gaza, and for Gazans to live in Gaza.

These extremist statements, which incite the killing of Palestinians, the elimination of every last person among them, and their expulsion and displacement to countries around the world, are a dangerous escalation step that reflects blind hatred and the implementation of Zionist plans, which call for the elimination of everything Palestinian. They are in full agreement with all the steps that Israel is taking today in northern Gaza, and go beyond the plan of the generals and the establishment of military buffer zones, to robbing Palestine of its people, its people and its people, and imposing the occupation’s authority over its land forever.

The illusion of reaching a ceasefire

Hamada Faraana

Hamada Faraana

Opinion Writer

Will US Secretary of State Blinken succeed in his current eleventh round in reaching a cessation of the war, attacks, and crimes of the colony against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, while he failed in the previous ten rounds??

Blinken and his administration are under the illusion that the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could push the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance to retreat, to submit to unprincipled bargaining, and to accept the results of the colony’s battle against the resistance, as if the assassinations of Palestinian and Lebanese leaders have weakened the two factions, to accept the results of a defeat that did not happen, and the results of the colony’s victory that has not been achieved. The battle is ongoing, and the clashes confirm that the Arab Palestinian-Lebanese side is still capable and is directing painful blows to the occupation forces despite Israeli superiority in aviation, technology, and cyber warfare.

Hezbollah, through its media official, Muhammad Afif, presented the party’s vision, cohesion, and self-confidence, and that it is still capable of confronting and achieving practical achievements against the occupation forces.

The battle is not over and its results are not clear in terms of victory or defeat for either side of the conflict. The Palestinian steadfastness is clear and tangible, even if it has not achieved victory yet, and the Israeli failure and failure, despite what it has done, of crimes, killing and destruction, has not been defeated yet. The battle is a debate between the two sides of the conflict, even if it is tangible and has become a new and public phenomenon, which is direct American participation to protect the colony through American devices and soldiers, and actual participation in the work, sacrifices and armed struggle by the Lebanese with the Palestinians against the one enemy: the national, religious and humanitarian enemy.

The manifestations of the clash are expanding, geographically, in terms of identity and mutual actions, and it is expected that they will expand after the American President announced that he: “knows when and how Israel, the colony, will attack Iran,” and he considered that: “the killing of the leader of the Hamas movement, Yahya Sinwar, is an opportunity to deal with the parties in a way that ends the conflict for a period of time.”

The deceptive, deceitful, poison-spreading Israeli media claims that some parties in the region expressed their satisfaction with the Israeli strikes in Syria and Lebanon, including the assassination of Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the commander of the Quds Force in Syria, and the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon. These messages carry a lot of deception and blatant demography, according to the popular proverb that says, “How do you know a lie? The answer is by its size,” meaning that it is unreasonable, illogical, and does not conform to brotherhood, values, and interests.

Who has an interest in the continuation of the Israeli occupation, expansion and colonization of all of Palestine, southern Lebanon and the Syrian Golan? Who has a conscience when he sees the deliberate Israeli killing and destruction of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians, their homes and properties, by means of warplanes and blind missiles, with the aim of controlling, imposing influence and killing any Arab ambition towards dignity, independence and freedom??

The colony's crimes continue, and Netanyahu has no interest in stopping them. He is the one who thwarted all mediation initiatives to cease fire and exchange prisoners, because that would turn his failure into an admission of defeat, and would turn Palestinian steadfastness toward a step toward victory. Therefore, the battle continues, and Secretary Blinken will not succeed in reaching any formula for a ceasefire agreement, and he is keen on the colony remaining strong and capable of harming, no matter what crimes and follies it commits.

Abu al-Rub: The total amount of our withheld funds is about 7.5 billion shekels.

Director of the Government Communication Center, Muhammad Abu al-Rub, said that the occupation’s freezing of hundreds of millions of our people’s funds, which are being held in order to pay them as compensation to Israeli families, under the pretext that the official Palestinian institution pays the allowances of the families of martyrs and prisoners, is a new attempt to expand the circle of targeting the institutions of the State of Palestine, and to push it to stop fulfilling its obligations towards its people from various categories.

Abu al-Rub confirmed to WAFA news agency on Tuesday evening, in response to the decision of the Central Court of the Occupation to freeze 410 million shekels of Palestinian funds, that the official Palestinian position is clear in rejecting Israeli blackmail, adding that there are official moves on two levels: the first is the continuation of recruiting international pressure to release our withheld funds with the help of various friendly countries and international institutions, and there is an escalation in international pressure on the occupation to release these funds, and secondly, the Palestinian legal efforts being made to challenge these illegal decisions.

He said that the Israeli occupation is waging a comprehensive war on the ground and a stifling financial siege, as it deliberately deducts more than half of the monthly clearance value, which is the main resource for public finances, so that the total of our withheld funds reaches about 7.5 billion shekels, distributed as follows: More than 3 billion shekels are government allocations for our people in the Gaza Strip, specifically the salaries of doctors, teachers, relief crews and various categories of employees, which are paid by the public finances twice, once by rejecting Israeli blackmail and the government’s transfer of the Gaza Strip’s allocations, and another time by the occupation’s deduction of the same amount that is transferred to the Strip from the clearance funds, in addition to withholding more than 3.5 billion shekels of our funds under the pretext of the Palestinian Authority paying the allocations for the families of martyrs and prisoners, in addition to about one billion shekels, which is the Palestinian finances’ share of the departure tax on the crossings, which Israel has been withholding for several years.
