Israeli occupation forces seize 57 dunums of land in the Bethlehem Governorate.

Today, Sunday, the Israeli occupation authorities seized 57.79 dunums of Palestinian land in the Bethlehem Governorate, specifically in the areas of Al-Khader, Artas, Bethlehem, and Beit Ummar in the Hebron Governorate.

The Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission said that the occupation authorities, through what is called a "military order to seize land for military purposes, numbered (T/3/25)," seized 57.79 dunums with the aim of creating a buffer zone around the Efrata settlement, which is built on citizens' lands in the governorate.

The Commission noted that the occupying state, through a series of military orders, established a total of 14 buffer zones around a group of settlements. Through this measure, it aims to prevent citizens from accessing vast areas under the pretext of military orders, paving the way for permanent control over them in the future.

She noted that the so-called Occupation Land Authority had issued two large construction tenders last February, aiming to build 974 new colonial units, with the aim of establishing a new colonial neighborhood affiliated with the Efrat settlement, a matter the authority had previously addressed.

Maps of the military order issued today indicate that the buffer zone the occupying state seeks to establish around the settlement also surrounds the planned neighborhood, in addition to two colonial outposts that have been transformed into neighborhoods to the north of the settlement: Givat Hadagan and Givat Hatamar.

Mass demonstrations in European and Arab cities denouncing the Israeli war on Gaza.

Mass demonstrations took place on Saturday in several European and Arab capitals and cities, including Berlin, Paris, Copenhagen, Milan, the British city of Bellingham, Lebanon, and Syria, in solidarity with Gaza and against Israel's resumption of its war on the besieged enclave.

Protesters in these cities chanted slogans demanding freedom for Palestine and denouncing the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

In the German capital, Berlin, a demonstration was held in solidarity with the Palestinians and Gaza. Protesters took to the city streets, denouncing the Israeli occupation army's attacks on the Gaza Strip.

In the Italian city of Milan, hundreds of people marched through the city's streets in protest against the Israeli war on Gaza. They carried banners demanding an end to "war crimes" in the Strip and "continued resistance until liberation."

In the British city of Bellingham, demonstrators called on Israel to halt its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and denounced the continued targeting of children in the Strip.

In the French capital, Paris, demonstrators called for support for the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, providing them with protection, and halting the Israeli occupation's aggression.

The Danish capital, Copenhagen, also witnessed a protest against the Israeli occupation army's attacks on Gaza, with demonstrators carrying signs reading "Stop the genocide."

Report: Israel seeks to share influence in Syria with Türkiye

After the Israeli Defense Minister threatened Sharaa, "Israel still hopes to avoid a direct confrontation and reach a shared zone of influence and security arrangements with Turkey, with American and perhaps Russian mediation as well."

Through its airstrikes in Syria and the destruction of military airports there last week, Israel is seeking to reach an understanding with Turkey regarding the division of Syria between the United States in the east, Russia in the coastal region, Turkey in the north, Israel in the southeast, and the new Syrian administration in the remaining areas.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper described the division of Syria in this manner on Sunday as "dividing Syria into spheres of influence" between the aforementioned countries. It's worth noting that the Israeli army has occupied vast areas of Syrian territory since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8.

Last week, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz directly threatened the head of the new Syrian administration, Ahmad al-Sharaa, stating, "If you allow forces hostile to Israel to enter Syria and pose a threat to Israeli security interests, you will pay a very heavy price."

Katz added, "The air force's operation against the T-4 airbase in Hama and the Damascus area is a clear message and a warning for the future. We will not allow the security of the State of Israel to be targeted."

According to the newspaper, Katz did not mention Turkey in his statement because "Israel still hopes to avoid a direct confrontation and reach a shared zone of influence and security arrangements with Turkey, with American and perhaps Russian mediation, in Syrian territory. But the bombing of four major military airports in Syria on the same night was a message to the Sultan in Turkey," referring to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Israeli military and intelligence services believe that following the fall of the Assad regime, there was growing concern that Turkey might exploit the power vacuum in Syria "to pose a threat to Israel, due to Turkey's relationship with jihadist rebel groups." As a result, the Israeli military occupied Syrian territory, allegedly to "prevent a possible situation in which Sunni jihadist militants were present within a few hundred meters of the towns (settlements) of the Golan Heights," according to the newspaper.

In this way, Israel justifies its occupation of Syrian territory, its raids across Syria, and the destruction of Syrian army weapons depots and military airports. It believes that Türkiye intends to "establish a military and economic presence in Syria through its influence on the Sunni rebels."

The newspaper continued, "Erdogan is currently attempting to expand and consolidate his country's military and economic influence and positioning throughout Syria as part of the 'neo-Ottoman' strategy that Turkey has been pursuing over the past decade, which aspires to become a central regional superpower in the Middle East and influential on the international stage."

The newspaper added that Israel's real, long-term concern regarding Turkey is "the emergence of a Sunni-Islamic axis embracing the Muslim Brotherhood's ideology, led by Turkey and extending through Syria, through the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, and among supporters of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, ending in Gaza, and replacing the Shiite axis led by Iran."

However, the newspaper noted that unlike Iran, Turkey is a NATO member, a close ally of the United States, and maintains close ties with Russia. "The Israeli and Turkish security and economic apparatuses also maintain enduring ties, and although Turkey currently provides almost overt sponsorship from its territory for Hamas activity in the West Bank, Israel has the ability to speak to the Turks, convey messages to them directly, and even influence them."

The newspaper reported that "Israel's concerns about Turkey's attempts to control Syria, along with other burning issues such as the kidnapped soldiers and Iran, will be a central theme in the expected meeting between Trump and Netanyahu at the White House this week."

Israeli occupation forces demolished facilities and closed an agricultural road in Tubas and Bethlehem.

Today, Sunday, the Israeli occupation forces began demolishing civilian facilities in the Ras al-Ahmar area, southeast of Tubas.

The official in charge of the Jordan Valley file in Tubas Governorate, Moataz Basharat, reported that the occupation forces have begun demolishing residential buildings and sheep pens belonging to citizens in the area.

In Bethlehem, Israeli occupation forces closed an agricultural road in the Umm Rukba area, south of the town of Al Khader, south of Bethlehem, on Sunday.

Exposing Microsoft's support for Israel... Social media celebrates Moroccan Ibtihal Abu Al-Saad

Moroccan programmer Ibtihal Abu Al-Saad, who works for Microsoft, has received widespread Arab praise after exposing her company's support for Israel in its 18-month-long war of extermination against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Social media was flooded with praise from media professionals, human rights activists, and citizens from several countries for the young Moroccan woman, after she directly accused Microsoft's management of having "Palestinian blood on its hands" for providing artificial intelligence technology to Israel, which it uses to perpetrate genocide in the Gaza Strip.

During the official ceremony, which was attended by Microsoft employees and the company's CEO of Artificial Intelligence, Mustafa Sulaiman, in Washington, D.C., Ibtihal suddenly took the stage and, in a bold move, directly accused Sulaiman, who is of Arab descent, of complicity in supporting the Israeli occupation and remaining silent about its crimes against the Palestinians.

She also strongly criticized Microsoft's management, which she said contributes to the occupation's crimes by providing its army with technologies and services, particularly through the Azure platform, which is used to carry out military operations against the Palestinian people.

"Shame on you," Ibtihal said, interrupting the CEO's speech. "You claim to use AI for good, but Microsoft sells AI technology to the Israeli military. 50,000 people have died, and Microsoft is contributing to this genocide in our region."

Suleiman stopped delivering his speech following her intervention, which made the scene a topic of conversation on social media platforms, where her actions received widespread support from opponents of the Israeli war on Gaza and supporters of the Palestinian cause.

Palestinian human rights activist Rami Abdo described Abu al-Saad as not just an angry employee, but "a living embodiment of a vigilant moral conscience within one of the world's largest technology companies."

In a Facebook post, Abdo condemned the global silence regarding technology used to kill innocent people.

Palestinian journalist Mahmoud Al-Amoudi praised Abu Al-Saad's courage. Al-Amoudi, who is from the Gaza Strip, commented on the video clip documenting the incident on Facebook, saying, "Tell Ibtihal that she is in our hearts."

Complementing the praise Abu Al-Saad received, Moroccan economic researcher Hisham Benlamin Alaoui described his fellow Moroccan woman on Facebook as "a free Moroccan woman in an era of slaves and a dearth of men."

Kuwaiti academic Khaled Al-Otaibi also stated that Abu Al-Saad "sacrificed her professional future for an honorable position," hinting at the possibility of losing her job following the public accusations against Microsoft's management.

In this context, Moroccan human rights activist Tayseer Abdullah considered Abu Al-Saad "much better than celebrities and content creators."

He praised the Moroccan programmer's actions, saying on Facebook: "Ibtihal is on the honor roll because she sided with the children and victims of Gaza."

Moroccan human rights activist Abdelali Al-Rami also praised his compatriot, saying, "Life is very short and small, but one act can make it greater than one can imagine."

He added on Facebook: "Thank you, Ebtihal, for being a human being in a brutal world."

UNICEF: Closed about 21 malnutrition treatment centers in Gaza

UNICEF spokesperson Kazem Abu Khalaf announced on Sunday the closure of approximately 21 malnutrition treatment centers in Gaza due to the resumption of Israeli aggression and the issuance of evacuation orders in the affected areas.

He explained, in press statements, that UNICEF is awaiting the issuance of a report by the Food Security Classification Authority in the Gaza Strip and the presentation of the results.

He pointed out that the occupation has continued to close the crossings with the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of aid, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, and other items, for 35 days.

UNICEF stated yesterday that more than one million children in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of life-saving aid for over a month, noting that the continued blocking of aid into Gaza constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and has dire consequences for children.

She stressed that she had thousands of aid parcels waiting to enter the Gaza Strip, and that they must be allowed in immediately. She also stressed that complementary foods for infants in Gaza had run out, and that only enough ready-made milk remained to feed 400 children for a month.

70 days and Israeli occupation continues its aggression on Tulkarm and its two camps

The Israeli occupation's aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp has entered its 70th consecutive day, and its 57th day on the Nur Shams camp, amid ongoing violations and military escalation against civilians.

Local sources reported that the occupation forces sent military reinforcements to the city and to the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, deploying large infantry units in their neighborhoods, storming homes, vandalizing them, firing live ammunition and flash bombs, and hearing occasional explosions, especially after midnight.

She added that the occupation forces are still stationed in several homes within the two camps, having converted a number of them into military barracks, while occupation forces have deployed their vehicles around them, amid a tight siege.

This morning, Nour Shams camp witnessed a heavy deployment of occupation vehicles and infantry units, which patrolled its neighborhoods, concentrating in the Manshiyya neighborhood, amid extensive search and combing operations.

Meanwhile, occupation forces deployed inside Tulkarm camp, as part of the ongoing escalation that has affected all its neighborhoods. The camp has been emptied of its residents after they were forcibly displaced from their homes, and is completely devoid of any sign of life, following the complete destruction of its infrastructure and the sabotage, demolition, and burning of homes and facilities.

In a related context, occupation forces' vehicles provocatively patrolled the city's streets and neighborhoods, setting up flying checkpoints in several locations, including Nablus Street, Shuweika Street in the northern neighborhood, and at the southern entrance to the city. They intercepted passing vehicles, detained them for extended periods, and subjected them to searches, checking the identities of their passengers, and interrogating them.

The occupation forces continue to seize a number of homes and residential buildings on Nablus Street and the city's northern neighborhood, transforming them into military barracks with their vehicles stationed around them. Meanwhile, they are restricting citizens' movement on the street, sections of which have been closed off with earth mounds in both directions.

This morning, students in Tulkarm and its suburbs headed to their schools to resume in-person education, after a 70-day hiatus due to the ongoing aggression on the city and its two camps, with the exception of five girls' schools, which remain closed: Al-Adawiya Secondary School, Ashbilia Elementary School, Abu Salma Al-Karmi Elementary School, Zenobia Elementary School, and Khawla Bint Al-Azwar Elementary School.

This return comes amid efforts by educational staff, in coordination with relevant authorities in the governorate, to ensure a safe learning environment amidst these challenging circumstances.

The ongoing aggression on the city and its two camps has resulted in the deaths of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. Dozens have also been injured and arrested, and more than 4,000 families have been forcibly displaced from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, along with dozens of families from the city's northern neighborhood after their homes were seized and a number of them converted into military barracks.

This aggression also caused widespread destruction to the infrastructure, including homes, shops, and vehicles, which were completely and partially demolished, burned, vandalized, looted, and stolen. 396 homes were completely destroyed and 2,573 partially destroyed in the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps, in addition to the closure of their entrances and alleys with earth mounds.

Ben Gvir's storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Sari Al-Qudwa

Sari Al-Qudwa

Opinion Writer

The occupation continues its relentless war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, as extremist Israeli Security Minister Ben-Gvir stormed the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy guard from occupation forces. This provocative and inflammatory act offends the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world and demonstrates a clear disregard for the international community, international law, and international legitimacy resolutions.

The storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the extremist Itamar Ben Gvir and his desecration of the Islamic sanctities, which have become subject to daily violations by gangs of settlers who operate under the cover of a right-wing government that is working diligently to control our Islamic and Christian sanctities through a clearly defined and systematic plan. The storming carried out by the extremist Ben Gvir confirms the Israeli political cover for him and the involvement of Benjamin Netanyahu's government in these practices. Ben Gvir had stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, supported by his extreme right-wing government, (8) times since he took office and (5) times since the start of the war on Gaza. He had previously issued several extreme right-wing statements in which he threatened to establish a Jewish synagogue in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The attempts of the occupation government to undermine the historical and legal status of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem are unacceptable and invalid, and represent a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions. They contribute to increased escalation, tension and instability in the region, as they came after the occupation army bombed the clinic of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the Jabalia camp in the Gaza Strip, which led to the martyrdom and injury of dozens of displaced persons, most of whom were children and women, and the expansion of the occupation's military operations throughout the Strip and the policy of systematic starvation against civilians, which constitutes a crime and a catastrophe against humanity and a flagrant violation of all international conventions that guarantee human rights and the right of peoples to live in dignity.

This behavior is likely to ignite a serious crisis in Jerusalem because these incursions affect the feelings of Muslims and violate the sanctity of the mosque, which belongs exclusively to Muslims and no one disputes it by divine decree. Ben Gvir and the extremist settlers who stormed the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque live on air are well aware that this step is provocative to the feelings of the people of Jerusalem who sacrifice their lives and souls for Al-Aqsa, and that this incursion is considered a disregard for the feelings of the entire Islamic nation.

Urgent and serious Arab, Islamic, and international action is needed to prevent the recurrence of these incursions, which portend an outbreak of religious conflict in the region, with dire consequences for all Arab and Islamic peoples, as well as for Israeli society. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Arabs, and Muslims must take a firm stance in this regard, protesting this challenge to the feelings of more than two billion Muslims worldwide.

It is the international silence that has encouraged the occupation to persist in defying international law and continue committing crimes against our people and our land. The occupying state must be forced to submit to international legitimacy and stop its aggression and crimes. The international community, the Security Council, international and regional parliaments, and the peoples of the free world must take strict and immediate measures against the occupation to stop these provocative practices against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem and to stop the genocide and ethnic cleansing it is committing against our people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. The inaction of the international community encourages the occupation government to deepen its violent isolation of the Palestinian people and pushes it to continue its war of genocide, displacement, and annexation.

Will the "Gaza War" change the face of Palestinian politics?

Amin Al-Hajj

Amin Al-Hajj

Opinion Writer

The war of extermination on Gaza has left a clear and profound mark on the Palestinian political reality, revealing significant strategic changes that we may not notice now, but which will certainly reshape the Palestinian political landscape in the long term.

First, the war revealed the fragility of the Palestinian internal situation due to the ongoing division. It showed that repeating the same old story—who, how, and when—has become boring after eighteen years and benefits no one. It became clear that the ongoing Palestinian division weakens the Palestinian ability to confront all forms of violence and increases their suffering at all levels. Voices calling for national reconciliation have escalated, in an attempt to increase pressure on all parties to move towards truly unifying political and field efforts worthy of the ongoing bloodshed. However, so far, this does not seem to be bearing fruit.

Secondly, the war has put the Palestinian Authority to a difficult test, clearly revealing the limitations of its political approach, which has proven its “failure” to deter aggression, curb its aggression and brutality, or provide effective protection for Palestinians in general, and in the West Bank in particular. This is if we admit – for the sake of argument – that Gaza is in a different situation, and that it has been absent from it for nearly two decades. As a result, critical and resentful voices have also increased, both internally and externally, calling for a review of this approach, or for the effectiveness of agreements that no longer serve the Palestinians’ supreme interests.

Third, the war demonstrated the strength and impact of the resistance, and strengthened its popular standing, despite the criticisms of the October experience. However, without exonerating the occupation as the first and direct party responsible, let alone the complicity of those around it, both near and far. These developments will lead to noticeable changes in the internal Palestinian balance of power, and may open the way for new, young leaders more in tune with the pulse of the Palestinian street, calling for a more confrontational approach to the occupation, even if it is with less "intensity," but perhaps with more sophisticated and painful means, and rejecting the current reality as a whole.

Fourth, the war has reaffirmed the important and vital role of Palestinians everywhere, both within the occupied territories and in the diaspora, whose voices have been silenced for decades. This pressure and restrictions are merely an implicit recognition of their importance, which means redefining the rules of engagement and necessitating the development of political and organizational strategies that effectively absorb and utilize these energies, now and in the future.

Fifth, the war has repeatedly emphasized the importance of imagery and media in the battle. Images and video footage from the ground have been a key factor in conveying the extent of Palestinian suffering to the world and countering the Israeli narrative. It has become clear that the media battle is no less important than other battles, which necessitates the development of effective and professional media strategies.

Sixth, at the international level, the war has highlighted the shortcomings of official Palestinian diplomacy and its inability to capitalize on the widespread international sympathy for the Palestinian people. This is due to the Palestinian division, which has made Palestinian diplomacy appear to be "flying" with one wing, representing a single point of view that is not unanimously agreed upon by Palestinians. This necessitates the development of a comprehensive Palestinian strategy to activate popular diplomacy, in addition to prosecuting and exposing the crimes of the occupation.

Seventh, the war also revealed that the Palestinian reliance on international institutions was a great illusion, as it became clear how they were exploited and harnessed to serve the occupation and cover up its massacres and crimes, and that their “supportive” measures for the Palestinians, despite their scarcity, were of no real value on the ground, at least currently. We have seen how their crews, headquarters, and vehicles bearing their insignia were targeted, which requires a real re-evaluation of the mechanisms of cooperation with them, and the recognition that the “pressures” that were applied to buy their silence, whether real or imaginary, which cannot be justified under any circumstances, made these institutions part of the “current.”

Eighth, the war has highlighted the changing and confusing role of regional powers, and revealed the limitations of relying on their positions or actual support. Regional positions have ranged from verbal solidarity to hesitation and tacit complicity with what is happening. This forces the Palestinians to seriously review the nature of their relationship with these powers, and to rely primarily on themselves in determining their future political options, while attempting to invest any real support, but with intelligence and caution, far from any bets or illusions that may be misleading.

Ninth, the last war clearly demonstrated that the occupation’s talk of peace and political settlement was never anything more than an illusion, a means to buy time, a bridge to the Arab and international environment, and a tool to consolidate the occupation and impose facts on the ground. The attack, specifically on Jerusalem and the West Bank, clearly revealed this, and that it is not serious about this approach at all, and that its real goal is to completely control the Palestinian land and consolidate a “terrifying” settlement reality, making it an unbearable “hell” and a “repulsive” environment, on the path to completely emptying it of Palestinians.

In conclusion, it can be said that the massacre war, the horrific genocide in Gaza, and the assault on Jerusalem and the West Bank are not just another episode in the chain of confrontation. Rather, they represent a true turning point, forcing radical changes in Palestinian politics. However, a positive and effective response to these challenges requires clear political will and a radical shift in the current approach and even way of thinking. This is not limited to one party, but rather requires all actors on the Palestinian scene.

Settlements: A tool of political genocide in the West Bank

 Dr. Dalal Saeb Erekat

Dr. Dalal Saeb Erekat

Amid the ongoing war of extermination in Gaza and the intensifying political pressure on Palestinians from all sides, creeping annexation and settlement projects in the West Bank are proceeding with deadly calm. With every new settlement unit, every bypass road, and every military order to confiscate land, a new reality is being drawn that cannot be easily reversed.

Settlements scattered from northern Jenin to southern Hebron are scattered like fireballs across Palestinian territory. They are not just settlements, but rather tools for a colonial settlement project whose primary goal is to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied territory and dismantle any possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state. It is a map of fait accompli, implemented by the far-right Israeli government, which it openly boasts of without ambiguity.

The annexation project has moved from the corridors of Zionist strategic thinking to systematic implementation on the ground. Today, with the rise of a government comprised of figures who do not believe in the existence of the Palestinian people, settlements are being used as a central tool to perpetuate a permanent reality in which borders are eroded, rights are trampled upon, and Palestinians are trapped between a wall, a settlement, and a military barrier.

In all areas, from Hebron, Jerusalem, Nablus, the Jordan Valley, and all the camps, the pace of confiscation, demolitions, and displacement is increasing. Palestinians are not allowed to build and are forced to leave. They are denied infrastructure, while electricity, water, and roads are provided to neighboring settlements. The law does not apply to everyone, but is tailored according to identity.

What is happening in Jerusalem, in particular, is a declared Judaization under the guise of "regulation," the revocation of identity cards under the guise of "law," the demolition of homes under the guise of "unlicensed construction," and the public annexation of major settlements like Ma'ale Adumim as part of the E1 and E2 projects, which directly aim to separate Jerusalem from any Palestinian community and completely isolate the West Bank from Jerusalem. All of this is happening with international complicity and a suspicious Arab and regional silence.

Since October 7, Israel has seized on the regional situation as a historic opportunity to expand its repression in the West Bank under the pretext of "security." Palestinian towns are now treated as a collective enemy and subjected to collective punishment, including repeated raids, daily arrests, home demolitions, and complete desecration by settlers, whose violence is now carried out with direct military support.

The most dangerous aspect of the situation is not just settlement expansion, but the success of the Israeli narrative in marketing settlements as a fait accompli. Amid talk of a "two-state solution," Israel is proceeding to consolidate a single state on the ground, but an apartheid state that discriminates between people based on identity and religious affiliation.

We, as Palestinians, and as an aware society, are called upon more than ever to break this silence and confront this project, not only with politics and rights, but also with awareness. The world, and our children, must know that what is happening in the West Bank is not urban construction, but rather the systematic destruction of the very idea of statehood and the future of future generations.

Settlement is not a deferred negotiating issue, but rather an immediate existential threat. If this settlement expansion is not confronted with popular action, a firm political stance, and an explicit media discourse, our map will be redrawn by hands that do not recognize us and do not see us as a people deserving of a life of dignity.

The Middle East we want

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu frequently speaks of creating a new Middle East, a discourse that has become increasingly pronounced since the events of October 7.

The new Middle East that Netanyahu is planning, and which he wants to create with the support of some Western countries, is a Middle East that is weak on all levels, disintegrated, torn apart by ethnic and sectarian conflicts, devoid of any force that might pose a future threat to the occupying state and its existence, and devoid of any spirit of defiance and rejection of the occupying state in the region. It is an East where the occupying state has the upper hand. Netanyahu, in his repeated talk about this new image of the region, links it and demonstrates the urgent necessity of creating it to the events of October 7, when parts of the south were subjected to a massive attack by members of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. He explains this by saying that the presence of any force in the region, no matter what it is, poses an existential threat to his state.

There is no doubt that the occupying state, led by Netanyahu and his extreme right, is working vigorously to create this new model for the Middle East, and the circumstances and conditions are conducive to it. Broad sectors of Western countries support this vision intellectually and practically.

We, the region, and the entire world are in dire need of a new Middle East, as envisioned by us, not by our enemies. A Middle East that is united, strong, and truly independent, founded on the principles and creed of the Ummah. This is a cry to all the sons and daughters of this nation, especially its vital forces, to work diligently and swiftly to create this vision for this Middle East, one that embodies our true existence, our pride, and our dignity, one that protects us from all those who lie in wait for us, and restores us to the highest ranks among nations.

Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara reiterated her opposition to the dismissal of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar over the weekend, arguing that "the decision to terminate his term fundamentally reflects a flaw and a personal conflict of interest on the part of the prime minister."

This came on the eve of the Israeli Supreme Court's consideration of petitions against the expected dismissal this week. The Attorney General also noted "criminal investigations targeting those close to the prime minister," arguing that the dismissal "would turn the position into a political loyalty position."

Baharav-Miara accompanied her position with a letter from the head of the Shin Bet himself, which included unprecedented accusations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Bar wrote: "There is a direct connection between the Shin Bet chief's ability to faithfully perform his duties and the existence of proper mechanisms for ending his term. The potentially serious consequence of such an attack could lead to the service being transformed into a 'secret police force.'"

The continuation of the war serves Netanyahu's interests.

Amos Harel, a military analyst for Haaretz, considered Bar's letter to the Supreme Court justices "one of the most important documents published in Israel since the beginning of the 'judicial coup' plan in January 2023."

Harel said that Bar's letter to the Supreme Court justices, as part of the petition against Netanyahu's decision to dismiss him, "serves as a rare testimony revealing the depth of tension within the political-security establishment, amid what is expected to be one of the most turbulent weeks in the battle to define the identity of Israel's political system."

Bar's testimony reinforces the notion that the continuation of the war on multiple fronts essentially serves the personal political interests of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu fears that a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal would lead to the collapse of the political coalition supporting him, particularly with the two far-right parties that form the backbone of the ruling coalition.

More importantly, however, according to Bar, the continuation of the war is also being used as a tool to distract public opinion from the course of his trial, and as a pretext to justify repeated postponements, including the postponement of the most sensitive stage of the trial for Netanyahu: the prosecution's cross-examination.

"Loyalty Employee" and "Personal Follower"

Bar emphasized that "proceeding with the dismissal process hastily, during a sensitive period, coinciding with criminal investigations into those close to the prime minister, without proper process, and without giving him a fair opportunity to respond, means sending a clear message to all Shin Bet leaders, including future heads of the agency, that if they are not politically acceptable, they will be removed immediately."

Bar added, "Netanyahu asked me for a security opinion stating that the security situation did not permit him to testify in court, and that was the beginning of the allegations of lack of trust. The head of the Shin Bet is not a 'loyal employee' nor a 'personal subordinate' to the prime minister or any political entity."

Unprecedented accusations

In his letter, Bar addressed the investigation into Netanyahu's associates, saying, "It is my duty to ensure the public interest, stemming from the seriousness of the suspicions, is achieved: uncovering the truth in this sensitive, complex, and important case. If the court deems it appropriate, I request that the information related to this matter be presented behind closed doors and in a closed session."

He added, "In addition, it required me to uphold my professional independence in matters related to the way the agency handles matters concerning Israeli citizens, as well as in the exercise of the agency's powers against the country's citizens."

The letter stated: "It appears that the prime minister's 'lack of confidence' began to build in November 2024, with the formation of the protective arrangements related to the conduct of his criminal trial, and escalated when I wrote to ministers outlining the need for a formal commission of inquiry."

Bar added, "These (the 'lack of trust') increased in intensity after the presentation of the Shin Bet investigation, which, in addition to detailing the failures in the agency's performance, presented the need for a broader review of the context and policies within which the agency operated," and the agency's clear and explicit indication of the need to form an independent investigative committee.

The rejection that sparked the clash

Yedioth Ahronoth published details of an unprecedented escalation between the prime minister and the head of the Shin Bet security service (Shin Bet), after Bar refused orders from Netanyahu that included, according to the report, "lie detector tests for ministers on suspicion of leaks from cabinet meetings," and the use of the Shin Bet "and its own tools to suppress protests."

Netanyahu also pressured the Shin Bet and the State Prosecution to exempt him from appearing as a witness in court, citing "personal security reasons." He claimed that court sessions could not be held in secure locations, and that if a suitable location were found, it should be rejected after one session because "its safety requires constant movement," and that "the meeting place must be secret." The agency interpreted this as an attempt to postpone the trial until the end of the war.

Ultimately, the hearings were held in the basement of the Tel Aviv District Court, with the proceedings kept public and the prime minister's security ensured. This angered Netanyahu, which precipitated Bar's dismissal.

"The continued presence of the head of the Shin Bet in his position irreversibly harms state security."

This morning, Sunday, the Israeli government submitted its response to the Supreme Court regarding the petitions submitted against the decision to dismiss Bar. The response, independent of the Attorney General's position, stated that "Bar's continued tenure constitutes an irreparable harm to state security."

The government's response stated: "Imposing continued mandate is unreasonable and inconsistent with the powers granted to an elected government in a democratic state responsible for the security of the state and its citizens. Every additional day or night in this situation could cause irreversible harm to the security of the state and the safety of its citizens and soldiers. Hence the urgent need to implement the decision."

She added, "The Shin Bet chief's term was terminated by government decision, due to the government's loss of confidence in him. This closes the door to his continued tenure, and he must terminate his duties," calling for the petitions to be rejected "immediately." The response concluded by emphasizing, "Even the prime minister himself remains in his position as long as he enjoys the Knesset's confidence. Once this confidence is removed, he cannot continue to perform his duties."

Netanyahu's office responded: The Shin Bet has lost the government's confidence.

The Prime Minister's Office responded, "The lack of confidence in the Shin Bet chief, as felt by the Prime Minister and all his ministers without exception, does not stem from a matter of personal loyalty, but rather from a lack of confidence in his performance following his decisive role in the October 7 failure, when he chose not to inform the political leadership, and from a series of other events that subsequently undermined professional confidence in him."

He added, "The only party acting out of personal motives is the head of the Shin Bet, who is clinging to his position after losing the confidence of the entire government. His recent statement is tainted by a blatant conflict of interest, and it's no surprise that it coincided with a letter from the attorney general, who is also embroiled in a major conflict of interest."

Mass demonstrations in Washington against the war of extermination in Gaza

Washington, D.C., witnessed a massive demonstration attended by thousands of activists and members of Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim communities from most states, denouncing the criminal war waged by the Israeli occupation state against the Palestinians and pressuring the administration of President Donald Trump to rein in the extremist right-wing Israeli government's continued crimes.

During the demonstration, one of the largest since October 2023, activists expressed their rejection of the arrest and persecution of students who support Palestinian rights at American universities. They also called for an end to US military and financial support for the occupying state, which contributes to the continuation of the "genocide" in Gaza.

As a symbolic image of the crimes committed in the Gaza Strip, activists placed children's shoes on the streets leading to the White House, representing part of the stories of the thousands of children who were martyred in Gaza during this aggression. They also raised a huge banner bearing the names of the martyrs.

Other US cities witnessed demonstrations against the war and the escalating Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, as part of the "Global Day of Action" to demand an immediate end to the war.

The Gaza truce has a new opportunity with an Egyptian compromise.

A new Egyptian proposal has entered the current deadlock in ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, amid ongoing Israeli escalation for nearly three weeks following the collapse of the truce.

The Egyptian proposal to cease the war on the Gaza Strip is the fourth in less than a month, and seeks to "bridge the gaps," according to Israeli media. Experts who spoke to Asharq Al-Awsat see it as a new opportunity for calm ahead of the Jewish Passover holiday on April 20. This is especially true with an imminent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, which could pressure Washington toward a new agreement based on a compromise between all previous Egyptian, American, and Israeli proposals that have not been accepted.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty exchanged views on Saturday with a delegation from the Palestinian Fatah movement, headed by Jibril Rajoub, Secretary of the movement's Central Committee, and including Rawhi Fattouh, Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, and Mohammad Shtayyeh, a member of the movement's Central Committee and former Palestinian Prime Minister. They discussed "the dangerous Israeli escalation and the latest developments in Egyptian efforts aimed at restoring the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and resuming the flow of humanitarian aid as soon as possible," according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Abdel-Ati did not reveal details about these efforts, but the official Israeli Broadcasting Authority said on Friday evening that Egypt "submitted a new proposal for a settlement regarding a ceasefire and prisoner exchange, with the aim of bridging the gaps." According to the Broadcasting Authority, the new proposal falls "somewhere between the original offer from the mediators, which included the release of five live prisoners, and the Israeli offer, which included the release of 11 live detainees in Gaza."

Negotiations to resume the truce, which collapsed on March 18 after nearly two months of calm, have stalled over several proposals, most notably the proposal made by Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, on March 13. This proposal included an extension of the ceasefire until April 20 and included the release of 10 hostages. Hamas, however, accepted only the release of the American-Israeli hostage, Idan Alexander.

This was followed days later by an Egyptian proposal that included Hamas releasing five living hostages, including an American-Israeli, in exchange for Israel allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, a week-long ceasefire, and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, according to the Associated Press.

Before Israel announced on March 29 that it had submitted a proposal to mediators, in full coordination with the United States, that included a truce stipulating the return of half of the 24 hostages believed to be still alive in Gaza, and about half of the 35 believed to be dead, during a truce lasting between 40 and 50 days.

Dr. Ahmed Fouad Anwar, a member of the Foreign Affairs Council and an academic specializing in Israeli affairs, believes the Egyptian proposal "presents a new opportunity to bridge the gaps and loopholes to revive negotiations and halt the escalation with an agreement that restores aid to the Gaza Strip." He believes the Egyptian proposal is likely to "offer a compromise that satisfies both sides of the war, but this depends on US pressure on Israel."

Palestinian political analyst Dr. Hussam Al-Dajani believes the Egyptian proposal represents a new step toward ending the crisis, noting that "any approach or proposal that ends with halting the genocide will be accepted by the Palestinian resistance." He believes Netanyahu poses the challenge to the Egyptian proposal's acceptance, anticipating that he will maneuver and set new conditions and demands, especially since stopping the war is not a priority for him.

Three Israeli officials said Saturday that Netanyahu is expected to visit the White House on Monday and meet with Trump, according to Axios.

Trump announced a few days ago that Netanyahu might visit the United States within days, emphasizing that he would seek to resolve the "Gaza Strip problem." This came after speaking with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi last week to discuss "possible solutions in the Gaza Strip."

During a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, Sisi stressed "the importance of restoring calm through an immediate ceasefire and the provision of humanitarian aid," according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf, on Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized his country's support for the Palestinian Authority during a meeting with a delegation from the Palestinian Fatah movement, affirming "rejection of Israeli attempts to undermine the unity of the Palestinian territories and separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank."

During the meeting, Abdel-Ati also stressed "Egypt's complete rejection of the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, Israel's aggressive policy in the region, its use of brutal military force without the slightest regard for international humanitarian law, the continued extremist practices of the Israeli occupation against civilians, and its treatment of Israel as a state above the law."

He said, "The illusions of power will not help Israel achieve the security it envisions. Rather, the atrocities it is committing will only instil feelings of hatred and revenge against it in the region, and will place further obstacles in the way of peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the region, which will have a profoundly negative impact on its security, stability, and the chances of achieving sustainable peace in the region." He warned of the consequences of the continued shameful international silence regarding what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Minister Abdel-Ati reiterated Egypt's rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land, addressing the Arab-Islamic plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff is heading to the Middle East this week and is scheduled to meet in Abu Dhabi with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, who heads the Israeli negotiating team, Axios reported Friday, citing a US official. The official noted that he may also travel to Doha or Cairo if there are developments in the negotiations regarding the Gaza deal.

Meanwhile, Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, threatened on Friday: “We have decided not to transfer prisoners from these areas that Israel is demanding be evacuated, and to keep them under strict security measures, but these measures are extremely dangerous to their lives.” He added: “If Israel is concerned about the lives of these detainees, it must immediately negotiate their evacuation or release.”

Returning to Anwar, who expects a truce before Passover, this is reinforced by Trump's meeting with Netanyahu at the White House on Monday, and the US president's visit to the region next month. These visits are also being complemented by Macron's visit to Arish on Tuesday.

Al-Dajani believes that "Hamas is interested in stopping the massacre committed by Israel against civilians in the Gaza Strip," noting that "any approach or proposal that ends with stopping the genocide will be accepted by the Palestinian resistance."

Al-Houthi: One killed and four injured in US raids targeting a store and a house in Saada.

Houthi media reported that one person was killed and four others were injured on Saturday evening, following raids launched by US warplanes on the city of Saada, northern Yemen, targeting a shop and a home.

The Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah channel said in a brief statement on its Telegram channel, citing its correspondent: "An American aggression targeted the Hafsin area, west of Saada city, with four raids."

She added that the raids targeted a store selling solar energy equipment and panels and a neighboring house.

The channel noted that civil defense teams were "working to extinguish fires and retrieve victims" from the raids, before later announcing that one person had been killed and four others injured, according to a preliminary toll.

Earlier on Saturday, US aircraft launched two additional airstrikes on the Kahlan area of Saada city, according to the Houthi-affiliated Saba News Agency, without providing further details.

Houthi sources did not mention whether the two raids resulted in any casualties or provide any other details.

Since March 15, Anadolu Agency has monitored hundreds of US airstrikes on Yemen, killing 67 civilians and wounding at least 146 others, including children and women, according to Houthi data that does not include casualties from the group's forces.

The statistics also do not include the Houthis' Saturday claim that "dozens" were killed and wounded in a US airstrike on the western province of Hodeidah, which targeted Eid al-Fitr celebrants. The statement did not mention a specific date or number of casualties.

The US raids come after President Donald Trump ordered his country's military to launch a "major offensive" against the Houthi group in Yemen, before threatening to "completely eliminate the Houthis."

While the group ignored Trump's threat, it resumed bombing sites inside Israel and ships heading to the country in the Red Sea, in response to Tel Aviv's resumption of its war of extermination against Palestinians in Gaza since March 18.

With full American support, Israel has been committing genocidal crimes in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 165,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.

In an urgent statement, the organization warned of a shortage of infant formula in Gaza, noting that the remaining ready-to-use milk is only enough for 400 children for one month, putting the lives of hundreds of children at risk.

UNICEF added that children receiving treatment for malnutrition are currently at grave risk due to the blockade on the Gaza Strip, which hinders access to medical and nutritional support.

She noted that since March 18, 2025, 15% of malnutrition treatment centers in Gaza have been closed, either as a result of evacuation orders or shelling, exacerbating the condition of 350 children receiving treatment at these centers, directly threatening their lives.

UNRWA: The northern West Bank is witnessing the largest displacement campaign since 1967 due to the Israeli aggression.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed that the ongoing Israeli military aggression in the northern occupied West Bank has caused "the largest wave of population displacement since the 1967 war."

This comes as the Israeli occupation army continues its aggression against camps, towns, and cities in the northern West Bank since January 21.

In a post on its X account on Friday, UNRWA said that "the ongoing Israeli military operation in the northern West Bank has caused the largest wave of population displacement since the June 1967 war."

On June 5, 1967, military clashes broke out between Israel on the one hand, and Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq on the other, with military, financial, and technical support from Algeria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.

At that time, the Palestinian issue represented a fundamental element in the Arab-Israeli conflict, embodied by this war. The Palestinian territories not occupied by Israel in 1948 were subject to two Arab administrations: the first, Egyptian, responsible for the Gaza Strip, and the second, Jordanian, responsible for the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

During the six days of the war, known as the "setback," Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza, Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, and Syria's Golan Heights.

Historians say that Israel plundered the areas it occupied in 1967 and exploited their water and economic resources, which contributed to supporting its economy.

Scenes from the "Naksa"—displacement and the systematic destruction of residential neighborhoods—are recurring, while Palestinians agree that the current Israeli war of genocide remains the most brutal and brutal since 1967.

UNRWA stressed in its post that "the ongoing Israeli military operation in the northern West Bank has resulted in systematic destruction and forced displacement of Palestinians, including demolition orders that have impacted Palestinian families and refugee camps."

She stressed that she "continues to work with her partners to provide urgent humanitarian aid and psychological and social support to displaced families in the West Bank."

UNRWA continued, stating that its teams in the West Bank are providing essential services, including mobile health clinics and online learning services, but the situation remains "extremely worrying."

Since the start of its war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the deaths of more than 944 Palestinians, the injury of nearly 7,000, and the arrest of 15,700, according to official Palestinian data.

Families of Israeli prisoners: Netanyahu prioritizes his personal interests over saving them

Families of Israeli captives in the Gaza Strip said Saturday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prioritizes his personal interests over rescuing the captives.

This came during a joint press conference broadcast by the private Channel (12) held in front of the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tel Aviv.

The families of the prisoners said: "It was possible to end the war and bring back all the prisoners, but the prime minister put his personal interests before saving lives."

The families accused Netanyahu of "deliberate negligence," saying, "While the prime minister is on vacation, our children are drinking toilet water in their families."

In early March, the first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel concluded. The agreement, which went into effect on January 19, 2025, was brokered by Egypt and Qatar and supported by the United States.

On March 18, Israel reneged on the 58-day ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement and resumed its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023, and has resulted in the deaths and injuries of more than 165,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.

The families at the conference pointed out that "the details that began to emerge this week about the Qatar Gate affair shed light" on what they described as "the tip of the iceberg of foreign interests running Netanyahu's office, which have thwarted any prospects for a prisoner release deal."

Last Monday, Israeli police announced the arrest of Netanyahu advisor Yonatan Urich and his spokesman Eli Feldstein, as part of the "Qatargate" case, in which police accuse officials in Netanyahu's office of "promoting Qatari interests," according to Hebrew media.

Police say Netanyahu's aides received funds from an American public relations firm working for Qatar to promote the Gulf state favorably in Israel.

Qatar denied these accusations, while Netanyahu said that what was happening was nothing more than a political persecution to bring down the right-wing government.

Following his testimony, Netanyahu released a video statement accusing police of holding his advisers "hostage" in a political investigation.

Netanyahu claimed that the investigation "was aimed at one thing only: preventing the dismissal of Shin Bet (General Security Service) chief Ronen Bar, whose dismissal was approved by the government on March 20 and is scheduled to take effect on April 10."

Sisi and Macron discuss developments in Gaza and bilateral relations.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi discussed with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on Saturday the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Egyptian efforts to achieve a ceasefire there.

This came during a phone call Sisi received from Macron, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, published on its Facebook page.

The statement said that the call addressed "developments in the Gaza Strip, where Egyptian efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Strip were reviewed."

He added that both sides "were keen to emphasize the importance of restoring calm through an immediate ceasefire and the provision of humanitarian aid, and they emphasized the importance of the two-state solution as the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace in the region."

Since resuming its genocide in Gaza on March 18, Israel has killed 1,309 Palestinians and injured 3,184 others, most of them children and women, as of Saturday, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

On March 18, Israel reneged on the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in effect since January 19, and resumed its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

With full American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 165,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.

The Egyptian presidency's statement indicated that Macron's call with Sisi "discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them, as part of preparations for the French president's upcoming visit to Egypt (a date has not been specified)."

He added that "the most important cooperation topics raised during the visit were discussed, as well as prospects for enhancing them in a manner consistent with the interests of the two friendly countries, including the possibility of holding a tripartite Egyptian-French-Jordanian summit in Cairo during the French president's visit to Egypt," without providing further details.
