Assassination of a Hamas leader and his wife in an Israeli raid in northern Lebanon

Lebanese official sources reported the martyrdom of the leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Wassim Attallah Al-Ali, along with his wife, at dawn today, Thursday, as a result of an airstrike carried out by the Israeli occupation in the north of the country. The sources explained that a drone targeted a residential apartment located near Khalil Al-Rahman Mosque inside the Beddawi camp in the city of Tripoli, causing a massive fire to break out at the scene and resulting in casualties.

The missile attack immediately resulted in the martyrdom of leader Al-Ali and his wife, while one of their daughters sustained varying injuries and was transferred to the hospital for necessary treatment. Al-Ali is known as one of the active organizational and political cadres within the ranks of the Hamas movement in the northern Lebanese camps, where he was responsible for coordination and following up on the affairs of Palestinian refugees in those areas.

This assassination comes in the context of an intense Israeli military escalation witnessed in the Lebanese arena, where occupation aircraft launched a series of simultaneous raids targeting the vicinity of Beirut International Airport and the Choueifat area. Field reports stated that the shelling on the airport road led to the martyrdom of three and the injury of six others, at a time when the occupation army claims to be targeting military leaders affiliated with Hezbollah in the capital.

In other field developments, Israeli aggressions included shelling missile launch platforms and drone manufacturing facilities in areas south of the Litani River. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement last November, Israeli violations have not stopped, with medical sources recording hundreds of casualties in recent weeks as a result of continued airstrikes and concentrated military operations.

On the other hand, the resistance responded by launching rocket barrages targeting the Upper Galilee, where sources monitored the launch of at least eight rockets from southern Lebanon. Hezbollah also announced targeting gatherings of occupation forces in Khalleh Wadi Al-Asafeer in the city of Khiam, with its Secretary-General Naim Qassem affirming the continuation of the confrontation option and refusing to surrender, no matter the field sacrifices.

Official statistics indicate that the Israeli aggression on Lebanon since October 2023 has resulted in more than 4,000 martyrs and about 17,000 injured, with the confrontation escalating into a full-scale war in September 2024. International concerns are growing about the expansion of the conflict in the region, especially with the intertwining of fronts and the continued direct targeting of political figures and civilians deep within Lebanese territory.

Wassim Al-Ali is considered one of the most prominent organizational and political figures in the Hamas movement in the Beddawi camp, and was responsible for communicating with grassroots in the Palestinian camps.
