On Sunday, Israel reopened the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing to resume Palestinian exports from the Gaza Strip to the occupied West Bank and Israel, after closing it for about a week due to an attempt to smuggle “explosives.”
A Palestinian official at the crossing told Agence France-Presse, "This morning, exports from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank, the Israeli side and abroad were resumed."
The official, who requested to remain anonymous, added, "A number of trucks, one loaded with ready-made clothes and the other loaded with scrap iron, entered the crossing early this morning toward the Israeli side."
The Israeli authorities, which have imposed a siege on the Gaza Strip since 2007, announced on Monday that they had suspended all exports of goods from the Gaza Strip after thwarting an attempt to smuggle explosives.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the army found at the Kerem Shalom crossing “several kilograms of high-quality explosives hidden in a shipment of clothes carried by three trucks.”
