Occupation announces end of Givati Brigade's mission in southern Lebanon amid widespread troop reduction

The Israeli occupation army officially announced the termination of the Givati Brigade's combat missions in southern Lebanon, after a period of approximately eight months. This step comes as the occupation continues to control border areas and carry out widespread attacks that have resulted in the martyrdom of 4,298 people since the escalation of operations last March.

The ceremony for ending the brigade's missions, which is considered one of the most prominent combat units in the infantry, took place at the "Vilon" camp in the northern region. The commander of the northern region in the occupation army, Rafi Milo, participated in these ceremonies, praising what he described as the field achievements made by the brigade during its presence in Lebanese territories.

The occupation army's statement claimed that the Givati Brigade's missions included carrying out intensive defensive operations along the border line, in addition to launching ground attacks deep into southern Lebanon. These operations included strategic areas such as the town of Khiam and Bint Jbeil, reaching areas located north of the Litani River, according to Israeli claims.

The occupation also claimed that the brigade's forces managed to destroy hundreds of Hezbollah's military infrastructure and eliminate hundreds of fighters during direct confrontations. The statement indicated that more than a thousand various weapons were found during the sweeping and raiding operations carried out by the forces in the Lebanese border villages.

The occupation army did not provide precise details about the reasons behind the withdrawal of the brigade at this time, and whether it was a routine rotation of forces. However, media sources linked this move to the framework agreement recently signed between Beirut and Tel Aviv under the auspices of the United States of America.

For its part, Hebrew press sources stated that this step falls within a broader plan for repositioning and partial withdrawal from specific villages in the south. Haaretz newspaper explained that these field arrangements are linked to the ongoing negotiations and the international monitoring mechanisms being discussed to ensure the stability of the border region.

In a related context, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper considered that the withdrawal of the Givati Brigade reflects the extent of political and field pressures faced by the occupation on the northern front. The newspaper indicated that the goal of these movements might be to establish a buffer zone instead of maintaining a permanent and costly military presence in those areas.

The occupation army radio had previously revealed the start of a significant reduction in the size of ground forces present in southern Lebanon. Sources explained that the military command decided to reduce the number of military divisions from five full divisions to only two, indicating a change in the adopted field strategy.

It is worth noting that the framework agreement signed last Friday evening stipulates a sequential Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territories. This withdrawal is scheduled to begin from two experimental areas whose names have not yet been revealed, as a first step within a timeline aimed at ending the Israeli military presence in Lebanon.

The Givati Brigade's mission included defensive operations on the border and attacks within the areas of Khiam, Bint Jbeil, and north of the Litani River.
