Warnings of serious health deterioration for prisoners in 'Ganot' prison due to medical negligence

Palestinian human rights sources reported an escalation in the severity of health crises faced by prisoners inside the Israeli 'Ganot' prison located in the Negev desert. The sources confirmed that a large number of detainees suffer from severe pain in their teeth and molars, without the availability of even the most basic medical care or response to urgent treatment requests, reflecting a deliberate policy of medical negligence pursued by the prison administration.

Reports issued by the Prisoners' Information Office clarified that detainees face extreme difficulties in accessing medical clinics or receiving regular follow-up for their conditions. This continuous delay in providing treatment has led to the exacerbation of simple medical conditions, turning them into complex infections and health complications, which increases the burden of daily suffering experienced by prisoners behind bars.

This medical crisis is accompanied by harsh detention conditions imposed by the occupation authorities, where prisoners complain about the poor quality of food provided to them and a severe shortage of basic necessities and detergents. These factors combined have led to a deterioration in the general immunity of the detainees, making the environment inside the prison a breeding ground for diseases that ravage their bodies in the absence of international oversight.

In a related context, Palestinian bodies called on international institutions and human rights organizations to intervene immediately and pressure the Israeli side to stop these violations. The demands emphasized the importance of securing immediate treatment for the sick and ensuring they receive the healthcare guaranteed by international laws and conventions, warning of the consequences of continued disregard that threatens the lives of hundreds.

Official statistics indicate an unprecedented escalation in arrest campaigns since October 2023, with more than 23,000 arrests recorded in the West Bank. Currently, more than 9,400 prisoners are held in occupation prisons, including 86 female prisoners and thousands of administrative detainees who are held without clear charges, which places the international community before its responsibilities regarding this humanitarian issue.

Continued disregard for the health needs of prisoners, foremost among them dental treatment, constitutes a violation of their basic rights and exposes them to serious health complications.
