The Prime Minister of Malta announced this evening, Monday, that his country will officially recognize the State of Palestine, in a historic move that places the European nation among the list of countries that have taken this principled stance in support of a two-state solution.
In a brief and urgent statement, the Prime Minister said: "We will recognize the State of Palestine this evening because we believe in a lasting solution no matter how difficult it may be," affirming that his government's decision stems from a firm conviction of the necessity to find a just and comprehensive peace path.
The Maltese decision comes amid a growing international diplomatic movement, joining major Western countries such as Britain, France, Australia, and Canada, which have announced their recognition of the State of Palestine in recent days.
