The Palestinian presidency warns: Any attempt to annex the West Bank is "illegitimate" and will close the doors to stability in the region.

In a strongly worded statement, the Palestinian presidency warned that any "Israeli" attempt to annex parts of the West Bank or impose sovereignty over it is "illegitimate" and will completely undermine the chances of achieving security and stability in the region and the world.

The official spokesperson for the presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, confirmed that these attempts, like settlement activities, are condemned and rejected and represent a blatant violation of international law.

Abu Rudeineh clarified that the Israeli plans directly contradict the foundations of international legitimacy, citing several binding UN resolutions that form the basis for any political solution, most notably: Security Council Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and Resolution 2334 (2016), which explicitly condemns settlement activities and considers them illegal.

He emphasized that these resolutions invalidate any attempt to legitimize the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land.

The spokesperson for the presidency considered that the occupying government seeks, through its escalation and annexation plans, to undermine international efforts aimed at stopping the war on the Gaza Strip and the assaults in the West Bank.

He added that the real goal is to end any opportunity for achieving a two-state solution, which enjoys broad international consensus, and for which the anticipated New York peace conference is being held.

This warning comes ahead of the international peace conference in New York on September 22, representing a preemptive step to set the Palestinian "red lines" before the international community.

The demand for the U.S. administration to explicitly "not encourage the occupation" is a direct message accusing Washington of providing political cover for Israel.

The call for "practical and serious steps" and the recognition of the State of Palestine is an attempt to shift the international position from verbal condemnations to tangible actions on the ground.

Abu Rudeineh reiterated that there is no sovereignty for the occupation over any inch of Palestinian land, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities by fully recognizing the independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
