British Foreign Secretary: The famine in Gaza is a moral scandal caused by the Israeli blockade.

The British Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the announcement by UN experts of famine in Gaza as a moral outrage. He affirmed that the Israeli blockade is the direct cause of this humanitarian disaster that Gaza is suffering from.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report clarified that the city of Gaza and its surroundings are experiencing a 'completely man-made' famine. The report warned that the continuation of the blockade and the prevention of aid access will lead to a sharp increase in avoidable deaths.

The report indicated that three of the international criteria for declaring famine have been met, with more than 20% of households experiencing complete food loss, over 30% of children suffering from acute malnutrition, in addition to high daily deaths due to direct hunger.

The report warned that the cities of Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in the central and southern Gaza Strip may witness a famine situation in the coming weeks, while the north is experiencing the worst humanitarian conditions according to estimates from UN officials.

Residents of Gaza reported days without sufficient food, as families suffer from a severe shortage of available food supplies from charitable kitchens. Riham Kriem from Gaza expressed her suffering, saying: 'My children are in poor health, we do not have enough food.'

Lammy condemned the continuation of the Israeli blockade and considered it the main reason behind this famine, calling on Israel to open the crossings immediately to ensure that aid reaches all residents.

In contrast, the Israeli government rejected the IPC report, claiming that the information is based on 'lies from Hamas and organizations with political interests.'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a new large-scale attack on the city of Gaza, which could complicate aid access and exacerbate the crisis.

The UN and humanitarian organizations face significant obstacles in delivering aid due to Israeli administrative and bureaucratic restrictions, ongoing military operations, and the destruction of infrastructure.

The Gaza Ministry of Health indicated that deaths due to hunger and malnutrition have risen significantly, recording 133 deaths in the first 20 days of August, including 25 children under 18 years old.

The report urged all international parties to take immediate action to save civilians in Gaza, stressing that any further delay will lead to widespread human losses that could be avoided.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, and destruction, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.

The Israeli genocide has left 62,192 martyrs and 157,114 injured among the Palestinians, with hundreds of thousands displaced and famine claiming the lives of 271 people, including 112 children.
