The occupation forces sentenced the child Abdullah Abu Diab to four years in prison.

The Jerusalem Governorate strongly condemned the sentence issued by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Jerusalemite child Abdullah Abu Diab (15 years old), which effectively imprisoned him for four years, after he had spent more than 14 months in detention since his arrest on May 6, 2024.

In a press release issued Sunday, the governorate considered this unjust ruling a legal and moral crime, adding to the growing record of violations against Jerusalemite children. The governorate emphasized that the occupation's policy against Jerusalemite minors is no longer limited to individual cases, but has become a systematic approach aimed at destroying the Palestinian social fabric and displacing the younger generations from the occupied city.

The governorate stated: "Since October 7, 2023, 91 martyrs have been killed in Jerusalem, half of whom were children under the age of 17. This confirms that the occupation is deliberately targeting Palestinian children directly, in a grave violation of all international laws and conventions."

The governorate also revealed that during the same period, the occupation authorities issued 161 house arrest orders against Jerusalemite children, forcing families to turn their homes into miniature prisons where children are deprived of education, play, and movement. In some cases, one parent is forced to remain with the child throughout the detention period, a coercive measure that lacks even the most basic standards of justice and humanity.

According to statistics from the Jerusalem Governorate, the number of detainees in the city since the start of the Israeli escalation in October 2023 has reached 2,464, including a large number of minors. This is a clear violation of international law and even Israeli law, which prohibits the imprisonment of children under the age of 14. This law is systematically circumvented through sham trials that lack even the most basic elements of justice.

The Jerusalem Governorate affirmed that it is following these violations with grave concern and is monitoring them legally and human rights-based. It reiterated its categorical rejection of all policies of detention and repression targeting Jerusalemite children, which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

At the conclusion of its statement, the governorate called on international human rights organizations, primarily the United Nations and UNICEF, to take immediate and serious action to protect children in Jerusalem and hold the occupation authorities accountable for these violations. It warned that the continued international silence regarding these crimes constitutes a dangerous cover for their continuation and escalation.
