US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the United States is optimistic about reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and that US envoy Steve Witkoff is also optimistic that indirect talks will be held soon, according to Reuters.
"I think we're closer, maybe closer than we've been in a long time," Rubio told reporters at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Malaysia.
He added that he spoke with Witkov on Wednesday evening.
