Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the statements of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, in which he said, "A solution must be found to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions," during the opening of the Gulf-US summit held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
He commended Saudi Arabia's historic support for the Palestinian people and their just cause at all levels, most notably its continued support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. He considered these steps essential to achieving just and lasting peace in the region.
He also praised the positions and statements of the Gulf leaders supporting the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting that all of these positions constitute support for the Palestinian and international position calling for peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
