In what appeared to confirm what was reported in the New York Times, Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a press conference on Thursday evening that Israel did not attack Iran from the air.
In response to a question about the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a building north of Tehran, Hagari said: On that night, there were no Israeli planes flying or launching any missiles throughout the Middle East, except for the operation in which the “terrorist” Fuad Shukr was killed in Lebanon, and I will not say more than that.
An explosive device hidden in a heavily guarded compound where Ismail Haniyeh was known to be living in Iran led to his assassination, according to seven Middle Eastern officials, including two Iranians and an American official, the newspaper reported.
According to five Middle Eastern officials, the bomb was hidden about two months ago in the guesthouse.
In a related context, Hagari said that the Israeli army has defensive and offensive plans to deal with any scenario, noting that there is coordination with several countries and partners in the region for defense.
Hebrew media reported that there are preparations for the possibility of a response that will last for several days from Iran, Lebanon, and perhaps other fronts.
