An American official told Reuters on Tuesday that US President Joe Biden's envoy to the Middle East, Brett McGurk, will travel to the region tomorrow to help reach an agreement on detainees and a ceasefire in Gaza.
Axios quoted American officials on Tuesday as saying that the director of the US CIA will arrive in Doha today to discuss reaching an agreement on Gaza. The site also quoted American officials as saying that Biden’s chief Middle East advisor, Brett McGurk, will arrive in Cairo tomorrow. The site said: Burns and McGurk's trip is part of a comprehensive pressure campaign for a breakthrough on the swap deal.
Qatar said on Tuesday that it had handed over to the Palestinian Resistance Movement (Hamas) an Israeli proposal that reflects the positions put forward by US President Joe Biden, adding that the proposal is now much closer to the positions of both sides.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari said in a press conference that Qatar, which is mediating in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, also stressed the need for there to be a clear position on both sides of the conflict in order to reach a ceasefire agreement.
Today, Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron called on the Hamas movement to accept the ceasefire agreement that his American counterpart, Joe Biden, put on the table, according to the Elysee Palace.
Macron said, in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “The detainees, including two French citizens, must ultimately be returned to their families, and the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza must end.”
