Hundreds of thousands demonstrate against the Netanyahu government for the twelfth consecutive week

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis demonstrated, Saturday evening, in Tel Aviv and several areas and crossroads in Israel, to protest the government of Benjamin Netanyahu and its plan to weaken the judiciary and undermine the Supreme Court, for the twelfth consecutive week.

More than two hundred thousand people participated in the main demonstration, which started from Habima Square in central Tel Aviv, towards Kaplan Street.

At the "Karkur" intersection in the Hadera area, the Israeli police assaulted the protesters, used water cannons to disperse them, and arrested four of them, after closing Road No. 65 to traffic.

Supporters of the "Likud Party" attacked the demonstrators against the government in the city, "Or Akiva" near Haifa, which is considered one of Netanyahu's strongholds.

Tens of thousands demonstrated in Haifa, Beersheba, Ashdod, Netanya, Herzliya and Raanana, and a massive demonstration took place in front of the residence of Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem.

The Israeli police closed many streets, coinciding with the protest demonstrations.

The demonstrators demanded Netanyahu's resignation, and held up banners with slogans written in Hebrew, English and Arabic, including: "Palestinian lives matter," "A people occupying another people cannot be free," "Netanyahu, Smotrich, Ben Gvir, a threat to peace in the world," and “Yariv Levin (Justice Minister) is an enemy of democracy,” “It is time to bring down the dictator,” “The government of shame,” “Bibi (Netanyahu) is disqualified,” “Apartheid does not stop at the Green Line,” and “No one is above the law.” Levin's judicial reforms are the end of democracy.

The Netanyahu government seeks to make radical amendments to the judiciary and against minorities, and to legitimize "racism and discrimination," which a wide segment of Israelis considers "targeting democracy and undermining the judicial system."

Yesterday, Friday, the organizers of the protests against the Netanyahu government and the plan to weaken the judiciary announced that they would escalate their protest steps during the next week, following his statements and his emphasis on "continuing legislation in order to reform the judiciary," as he put it.

The organizers of the protests said in a statement they issued, "The current week will witness days of national paralysis and protest steps in front of members of Knesset and ministers in the government, in addition to organizing a mass demonstration in Jerusalem."

They added that "on Sunday and Monday, protests will be organized in every place where Knesset members and ministers are, until we paralyze their programs and deliver our message that the dictatorship will not pass."

They emphasized that "the pace of the protests will escalate on Tuesday, unlike what the country's streets witnessed in the previous days. Next Wednesday will witness paralysis and large protests in the morning hours, before the demonstrators then head to Jerusalem to participate in a large demonstration in front of the Knesset headquarters."

The organizers of the protests acknowledged that "there will be other protests on Thursday," but they refused to disclose them at the present time.

Protest organizers said that "the struggle will rise to another level, and the reason for this is Netanyahu's attempt next week to take control of the Supreme Court and appoint judges to rule blatantly, in light of the violation of the conflict of interest agreement and the decision of the Supreme Court and the judicial advisor to the government."

They pointed out that "we are entering a fateful week in the history of Israel, especially as the current government is tearing the people apart and dismantling the Israeli army and economy."

They added: "In the face of the attempt to turn Israel into a dictatorship, millions will take to the streets in order to defend it and its independence, and every Israeli who wants to live in democracy must take to the streets and oppose dictatorship at any cost and paralyze the state. We are not afraid of a long road, and our people will triumph and democracy will triumph."

Netanyahu said in a press conference held on Thursday that judicial legislation aimed at weakening the judiciary will continue next week, in violation of the conflict of interest agreement that prevents him from dealing with his government's judicial plan that would affect his trial on corruption charges.

The government's judicial advisor, Gali Bharav Mayara, sent a message to Netanyahu, warning him that his interference in the judicial coup was illegal, noting that he "violated the Supreme Court's decision, according to which, as a prime minister accused of felonies, he must refrain from taking steps that raise a reasonable suspicion of inconsistency." Jordan: The occupation put out bids to build new settlement units that undermine the two-state solution

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs condemned the Israeli authorities' bids for the construction of more than a thousand new settlement units in the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that settlement activities are a flagrant and gross violation of international law, foremost of which is Security Council Resolution No. (2334).

The official spokesman for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Sinan Majali, said, "The settlement policy, in its entirety and in its details, represents a violation of international law and undermines the foundations of peace, efforts to achieve it, and opportunities for a two-state solution on the basis of international legitimacy decisions."

He stressed, "The unilateral practices carried out by Israel, the occupying power, in terms of building and expanding settlements, seizing lands and displacing Palestinians, are illegitimate, illegal, rejected and condemned practices, and represent a serious violation of international humanitarian law."

Trudeau and "great friend" Biden reach an agreement on immigration

On Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received US President Joe Biden on his first official visit, describing him as a "great friend" to Canada, and discussed with him several issues, including the economy and the situation in Haiti, and the two leaders reached an agreement related to the sensitive immigration file.

And Biden confirmed Friday in Ottawa that the United States and Canada will work together to combat illegal immigrants who cross from his country to its northern neighbor.

In a speech to the Canadian Parliament, Biden said, "The United States and Canada will work together to prevent illegal border crossings."

The agreement stipulates that the United States will return unregistered asylum seekers who cross from its territory to Canada, while Canada undertakes to accept larger numbers of immigration applications.

On the other hand, Biden sought to reassure investors after the recent turmoil in the financial sector caused sharp declines in global stock exchanges, stressing that "the banks are fine."

During a joint press conference with Trudeau, Biden said, "The banks are fine. I think it will take some time for things to calm down, but I don't see anything on the horizon about to explode."

Earlier, Trudeau said at the start of a bilateral meeting with Biden at Parliament House in Ottawa, "It gives me great pleasure to have a great friend," stressing the common "values" between the two countries.

For his part, the US President said, "We sometimes have differences, but there is no fundamental difference in the democratic values that we share."
Upon his arrival, Biden received a plate of chocolates made by a Syrian refugee family in Canada.

The 80-year-old Democratic leader was unable to visit the neighboring country and ally immediately after his inauguration, as is customary for US presidents, due to the Covid pandemic.

The relationship between Washington and Ottawa is more cordial than it was during the presidency of Donald Trump, who did not pay an official visit. However, this does not preclude the emergence of some differences.

Radio Canada and the New York Times reported that the visit could lead to a breakthrough in the issue of irregular migration, one of the sensitive issues between the two allies.

The two media outlets suggested that the Americans and Canadians would reach an agreement on closing the "Roxham Road", a route through which about 20,000 immigrants arrived in Canada last year, bypassing the official entry points from the United States.

The prospect is worrying organizations helping migrants. "The impact will be devastating for refugees who are at extreme risk. The result will be people either trying to cross more remote, more dangerous areas, or pushing them toward smugglers," Amnesty International's Julia Sande told AFP.

The influx of these immigrants sparked a fierce political debate in Canada.
In the White House, officials say they understand Canada's concern, but the issue is also a file before the United States from other aspects.

In January, the US authorities arrested more than 128,000 people for attempting to enter US territory illegally from Mexico, and the American right does not miss an opportunity to accuse Biden of complacency in the face of this phenomenon.

Another topic on the agenda is Haiti, mired in gang violence and exhausted on the humanitarian front.

A Canadian government source told AFP he expected to announce "significant funding" on Friday in terms of humanitarian aid and training of law enforcement personnel in Haiti.

The United States hopes that Canada will play a driving role in sending an international force to this Caribbean country.

Biden and Trudeau also discussed military expenditures at a time when Washington is urging NATO members to do more in light of the war in Ukraine and the growing tension with China.

But Ottawa is far from devoting 2% of its GDP to military spending, which is the minimum set for NATO member states.

The issue of modernizing the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) may also be raised in Ottawa on Friday.
Finally, Trudeau, whose country is the largest partner of the United States in the field of foreign trade, will try to improve Canada's position in the economic field.

The Canadian government source said he expected the joint press conference to see announcements on semiconductors and strengthening supply chains in North America.

And the visit of Biden, who promised to fight a fierce competition with China, comes shortly after the opening of an investigation in Canada into allegations of Chinese interference in the recent federal elections.

The United States charged a Russian citizen with espionage

A Russian citizen who tried to penetrate the International Criminal Court last summer in the United States was charged with espionage, as it is believed that he resided under a false identity for two years.

A statement issued by the Federal Attorney General in Washington stated that Sergey Cherkasov (37 years) "was an agent of the Russian intelligence services with a Brazilian identity under the name of Victor Mueller Ferreira."

He began working under this name in Brazil in 2010, creating an identity for himself that talks about imaginary relatives and friends.

Five years later, he submitted an application under that name to enroll in a university located in Washington, and after being accepted, he entered the United States in 2018 on a student visa.

He lived under this identity until 2020, and during this period he conducted studies in international relations, while he was collecting "information about Americans and sending it to the Russian services," as indicated by the Attorney General's office, Matthew Graves.

After he left the United States in May 2020, he continued to communicate with his acquaintances to obtain information about American foreign policy.

In April 2022, he attempted to infiltrate the International Criminal Court under the guise of conducting training at the Netherlands-based institution currently investigating possible war crimes in Ukraine.

Dutch intelligence discovered him and prevented him from entering the Netherlands, and he was returned to Brazil, where he was arrested on charges of fraud and sentenced in July to 15 years in prison.

Court documents indicated that Moscow had requested his extradition, accusing him of drug trafficking in 2011 and 2013.

The teachers' movement confirms the continuation of the strike and threatens to organize a sit-in

The Unified Teachers Movement confirmed, this Saturday morning, the continuation of the strike and protest activities, warning against organizing a sit-in with the overnight stay in Ramallah .

In a press release, the movement confirmed the continuation of the previously announced activities without interruption or change, through the strike in its current form (a strike from the morning queue with proof of presence "fingerprint / signature" and leaving at any time the teacher wants) for all stages, on top of which is the Tawjihi.

The movement also stressed the boycott of monitoring the employment test in all governorates, the boycott of high school exams (monitoring and correction), and the boycott of office and administrative work, courses and books issued by the Ministry of Education and its directorates.

The teachers' movement warned the government against reaching a decision in the coming days to sit-in in Ramallah with the overnight stay, and to set up a sit-in tent for that purpose.

The movement stressed the unity of teachers behind it, stressing the inability to split teachers on organizational and partisan grounds, indicating that the strike in all governorates has not weakened.

On the other hand, the teachers’ movement denied the existence of a page bearing the name “Unified Parents Council” at all, but it appeared in an emergency tonight, by changing the name of an old page to this name; In order to be used for an end in the hearts of loyalists to the government, according to the statement.

The movement called on parents not to send their children to schools, and students not to go if they were asked to do so. Because the teachers have not taken away their rights, and they have not yet fulfilled their demands, as the teachers will have a say when that happens.

The movement denied what is being circulated on the Internet and the pages of schools and directorates, and the messages that teachers receive regarding attendance, activities and solutions, as nothing new has been achieved, and that the speech of government spokesman Ibrahim Melhem was nothing but a repeat of the speech of Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh, about two weeks ago.

Al-Hirak said: "Let parents know that what was implemented from the agreement for teachers does not exceed 90 shekels on the salary slip, as the rest of the fair demands represented in: the Democratic Syndicate, and the full salary were ignored with scheduling dues within a known time frame with a pledge not to prejudice the salary in the future." , the cost of living allowance, the professionalization of education, fixing the years of contracts from 2016 until now, fixing the risk premium for Jerusalem teachers, loosening the lowest grade bond, and the unfair D1 and D2 grades against teachers.

And the movement continued: Therefore, we will not be regular until the fulfillment of our just demands, on top of which is the Democratic Syndicate.

European Qualifiers 2024: France sweeps the Netherlands by four, and a strong start for Belgium with Tedesco

The French national team, the runner-up of the 2022 World Cup, started the European Cup 2024 football qualifiers with a landslide victory over its Dutch guest, 4-0, while striker Romelu Lukaku inaugurated the era of German-Italian coach Domenico Tedesco by scoring a hat-trick, winning 3-0 over its Swedish host.
At the Stade de France on the outskirts of Paris, Antoine Griezmann (2), Daewoo Upamecano (8) and Kylian Mbappe (21 and 88) in his first match as captain scored the goals of the French national team, surpassing his 38th goal with the national team, Karim Benzema.
Goalkeeper Mike Mignan, Khalifa retired captain Hugo Lloris, denied the Netherlands an honorary goal when he saved a penalty kick by Memphis Depay in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
The two teams played their first match since the Qatar 2022 World Cup late last year, when France conceded its title by losing on penalties in a crazy final against Argentina (original and extra time 3-3), which eliminated the Netherlands from the quarter-finals with the same weapon.
The French Federation maintained its confidence in coach Didier Deschamps despite the defeat in the final, in which Mbappe scored a hat-trick, after leading him to the 2018 World Cup Russia title, while Ronald Koeman returned to the head of the coaching staff of the Netherlands after the departure of veteran Louis van Gaal after the World Cup.
The "Mills" team suffered a setback on the eve of the match, with five players infected with a viral infection, including Liverpool striker Cody Khakpo, Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt and Newcastle Englishman Sven Putman.
And the "orange" team was previously subjected to a slap at the weekend, with the withdrawal of Barcelona midfielder Frankie de Jong and Ajax striker Stephen Bergeven due to injury.
"We prepared all week with the idea that we couldn't disappoint our fans," Mbappe said after the victory. "It's the first time we're playing here after the World Cup, so we really wanted to repeat with what we did there, except for the World Cup final."
He continued, "Today we succeeded, but it is only the beginning, we must not get high. The hardest part has not been accomplished yet."
The French national team launched a fiery launch and opened the scoring when Griezmann devoured the ball from Kenneth Taylor in the middle of the field, and it reached Colo Moinet, and from him to Mbappe on the left side of the area, he passed it to the middle of it towards Griezmann, who was starting from behind, and he followed it with his left to the right of goalkeeper Jasper Silesen, ending a series of 16 A match without visiting the net with his country, specifically since November 2021.
The owners of the land doubled the lead when Griezmann lifted the ball from a fixed kick from the right side, and the goalkeeper got it in the wrong way, so it hit Obamecano and continued its way into the net (8).
Mbappe, the top scorer in the Qatar World Cup with eight goals, scored the third with a beautiful shot from inside the area, scoring his 37th goal, equaling Benzema's number.
He scored the fourth after manipulating the defenders and hitting a ball with his right hand to the right of the goalkeeper, to become the fifth best scorer in the history of the national team.
The 24-year-old is only behind Giroud, Henry (51), Griezmann (43) and Michel Platini (41).
Dachan gave midfielder Kevrin Thuram his international beginnings, so that the son of the former international player, Lilian, would be present, along with his brother, striker Marcus, who remained on the bench.
In the other match of the second group, Greece won the European champion in 2004 at its host, modest Gibraltar 3-0, while the Republic of Ireland was absent from this round.
France will visit Ireland on Monday, while the Netherlands will host Gibraltar in Rotterdam on the same day.

Lukaku, the Italian striker, Inter, scored a hat-trick, beating his Swedish host, 3-0, at the “Frands Arena” in Solna, in Group F competitions.
Lukaku scored the hat-trick in the 35th and 49th minutes, with two assists for German striker Dodi Boukibakio, and 83, with a pass from substitute Johan Bakayoko.
It is Lukaku's third hat-trick with his country.
The "Red Devils" began in the best possible way their new era under the leadership of Tedesco, the successor of Spain's Roberto Martinez, and in the absence of their retired main pillars, most notably Eden Hazard, defender Toby Alderweireld and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, after the disappointing exit from the first round of the Qatar World Cup.
The Belgian Federation hired the 37-year-old to succeed Martinez, despite his modest training record and contrary to the desire of some players such as Lukaku, who nominated former French star Thierry Henry to take over, based on his experience with the “Red Devils” since he took over in recent years the job of assistant coach.
Sweden coach Jan Anderson pushed AC Milan's veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 73rd minute to replace Newcastle striker Alexander Isaac. At the age of 41 years, five months and 21 days, he became the oldest player to play a match in the continental qualifiers, erasing the number of Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff, who played against Sweden in particular. 29 May 1983 at the age of 41 years, three months and one day.
In the same group, Austria honored its guest, Azerbaijan, when it beat it 4-1, including a brace for Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.
Austria topped the group standings with three points, on goal difference against Belgium. The two teams will meet in a fiery summit on June 17 in Brussels, in the third round.
Belgium will play an international friendly match next Tuesday against its host and neighbor Germany, while Austria will play with Estonia on Monday in the second round of Group F competitions, the same day that Sweden plays with its guest Azerbaijan.
In Group E, the Czech Republic beat Poland 3-1, and Moldova tied the Faroe Islands 1-1.
And in the seventh, Serbia beat its guest Lithuania 2-0, and Montenegro beat its host Bulgaria 1-0.

Mohamed Abdel Moneim headed the crossbar from Ahmed Sayed's "Zizou" cross (8), and the latter hit a ball from close range that rebounded from the defense and prepared in front of Mustafa Mohamed, who shot it, and it rebounded from goalkeeper Charles Tom and was dispersed by the defense (9).

Guinea-Bissau detonated a heavy-caliber surprise by defeating its host Nigeria 1-0 in Abuja in Group A.
Guinea-Bissau owes its victory to Troyes' French striker Mama Balde, who scored the only goal (29).
Nigeria's star-studded offensive line, especially the top scorer of Naples and the Italian League, Victor Osimhen, and Leicester City's English striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, were unable to dismantle the defensive bloc of Guinea-Bissau. Nagelsmann comes out of the narrow door in a shocking decision from Bayern

It is a warning and shocking decision from Bayern Munich , Germany, a few days before the start of the decisive month of April for the Bavarian club, which decided on Friday to dispense with its coach Julian Nagelsmann and give the keys to the technical tasks to his compatriot Thomas Tuchel.
In the afternoon, Nagelsmann arrived with his advisors at the Bavarian club's headquarters, where he spent about an hour of time, before Bayern announced, after nearly two hours, its decision.
Bosnian sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic explained, "This was the most difficult decision during my time as a member of the board of directors for sport at Bayern Munich. I regret this parting with Julian. But after a comprehensive analysis of the sporting development of our team, especially since January and with the experience of the second half of the previous season, We have now decided to free him,” knowing that he spoke a few days ago about a “long-term project.”
As for CEO Oliver Kahn, Oliver Kahn spoke of a decline in the quality of play, especially after the winter break.
Nagelsmann arrived from Leipzig in the summer of 2021, with a contract until 2026, for a deal estimated at between 20 and 25 million euros. To replace him, the Bavarian leaders contracted with Tuchel until the summer of 2025, provided that he will be presented on Saturday at a press conference.
Earlier this week, Bayern President Herbert Hainer did not skimp on praising Nagelsmann when he made a statement to Kicker newspaper, stating, "I find that Julian is advanced (technically). He is a great coach who showed his superiority against Paris (French Saint-Germain in the Champions League final price). tactical and strategic at the highest European level.
5 days after the famous words of the president, the management of the Bavarian giants made a 180-degree revolution.
The timing is surprising. A month ago full of important sporting dates next April, most notably the expected match against Borussia Dortmund, the leader of the “Bundesliga”, a point behind Bayern, and another in the quarter-finals of the European Champions League against Manchester City, England. What could have prompted “Recordmaster” to Such a shift in the midst of an international break?
The relationship between Nagelsmann and his captain, Manuel Neuer, has deteriorated since Bayern and Germany's keeper sustained a fracture in the lower part of his right knee while skiing at the beginning of last December, which kept him away until the end of the season.
And after the goalkeeper coach since the summer of 2011, Tony Tabalovic, who was very close to Neuer, was fired in January, the Bavarian captain expressed his anger in two interviews with the newspapers Athletic and Sued Deutsche Zeitung, saying, "It seems as if my heart has been ripped out."
During his traditional pre-match press conference in Leverkusen last week, Nagelsmann expressed his annoyance at the presence of a "spy" in his team, after the match plans were leaked to the weekly Sport Bild.
Mathematically, the German champion in the last ten seasons in the era of the 35-year-old technician is experiencing his worst domestic season in 11 years, as he scored only 52 points in 25 games to finish second in the league, a point behind Dortmund. Thomas Müller's teammates have lost three times this season in the league, the last of which was Sunday in Leverkusen 1-2.
For the first time since the 2011-2012 season, when the last time the league title escaped Bayern in favor of Dortmund, the Bavarian does not find himself in the lead nine stages before the end of the season, after he gave it up in favor of his rival, who has not tasted loss since the beginning of 2023 (9 wins vs. Draw).
In contrast to his suffering in the league, the Bavarian giants achieved overwhelming success in the main continental competition, with a series of 8 consecutive victories and confrontations against Barcelona, Spain, Inter, Italy, in the group stage, and Saint-Germain in the final price, all of which ended in victory back and forth without conceding any goal.
It is clear that the dynamic in the “Bundesliga” is not favorable for Bayern, as Dortmund has scored 10 more points since the end of the winter break, and the coming weeks are the ones that carry all the risks: hosting Borussia on the first of next April is decisive in the last breath race to crown the title. . Then the confrontation with Freiburg 4 days later in the quarter-finals of the cup, especially the continental confrontation against City.
The issue is now left in the hands of Tuchel to resolve matters, after his duties in previous clubs that he supervised, such as Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, ended with sparks and dismissals. He leads his first training session on Monday, in the absence of most of his players, due to their preoccupation with their national teams.
History repeats itself with Tuchel. After he was dismissed from the French capital club in late 2020, he was appointed coach of Chelsea weeks later at the end of January, to later win the Champions League title with the “Blues”. This is all Bayern wants after this sudden revolution.

The Lebanese are struggling to buy food for the month of Ramadan amid a sharp rise in prices

Housewife and mother of two, young Rana Rashidi, drags her shopping cart through a well-known department store in Beirut and through the aisles trying to shop for some essentials for the first few days of Ramadan.

Rana Al-Rashidi puts a small bundle of minced meat in her cart, a bag of rice, two bundles of pasta and a few other foods eaten during Ramadan, including Qamar Al-Din, an apricot dessert.

Rana Al-Rashidi recalls how she used to shop during the holy month of Ramadan before the economic crisis in Lebanon in 2019, telling Xinhua, "I used to fill my shopping cart with my needs throughout the month, from meat to chicken, fish, cheese and dates without worrying about prices. Today, we can hardly afford it." Buy some food."

During the month of Ramadan, the fasting people refrain from eating and drinking from dawn until the call to prayer, and break their fast with dates and water after sunset, where they gather in a warm family atmosphere around tables rich in various dishes, "but the sweet atmosphere of Ramadan differed this year and became somewhat bitter," according to The words of Rana Al-Rashidi.

In light of the conditions that forced many citizens to focus their purchases on essential commodities, Hasan Merhi, a teacher at a public school in Beirut and father of two children, told Xinhua, "This year, we removed many foods from our Ramadan menu, such as meat, fish, cheese and sweets. To save some money due to the insane prices of all basic materials.”

"When I think about how our purchasing and consumption habits have changed, I feel depressed and sad," said Hassan Merhi.

For her part, Hanaa Seikaly told Xinhua that she planned to buy vegetables only twice a week to prepare traditional salads and fattoush or tabbouleh dishes for her family of five.

And she continued, "We must reduce and reduce expenses these days, otherwise our salaries will not be sufficient to secure food throughout the month of Ramadan."
She added that her and her husband's salary is 30 million Lebanese pounds ($272) and should also be enough to pay for the generator service, school fees and medicine.

A recent study to monitor the repercussions of Lebanon's crises, conducted by the "Crisis Observatory" at the American University of Beirut, reported that the average cost of dinner for one day in Ramadan for a family of 5 is 6 million Lebanese pounds ($54), which is equivalent to the average wage in the two public sectors. and private.

The Crisis Monitor also reported in the index of the cost of the daily Ramadan fattoush salad dish, which includes 13 items of vegetables, spices, olive oil and bread, that it amounts to 95 thousand Lebanese pounds per person, up from about 15 thousand Lebanese pounds in 2021, which indicates an increase in the price of the dish. per capita by 6.3 times, while wages in the public and private sectors increased only about 3 times.

The observatory's study indicated that the average monthly salary in Lebanon is equivalent to 5% of total spending if the costs of water, electricity, transportation, education, hospitalization, and clothing are added to the family's food needs.

Farah al-Shami, an activist with the Arab Reform Initiative, which includes a network of independent Arab research and policy institutes, said, "The Lebanese are adopting unhealthy methods to adapt to the continuation of the crisis by giving up at least one meal a day, with many relying on one meal throughout the day."

Farah Al-Shami told Xinhua that "people have dropped many food commodities from their menus and turned to cheaper commodities, usually of deficient nutritional value and of questionable quality."

"People sell property like jewellery, real estate, cars, furniture and clothes, and they work multiple jobs for long hours, while borrowing some money from relatives," she added.

Farah indicated that there are between 350,000 and 400,000 families that are able to withstand the difficulties, thanks to the transfers and aid they receive from the Lebanese working abroad, amounting to a total of about $7 billion annually.

Since 2019, Lebanon has been suffering an economic collapse, which the World Bank ranked among the worst in the world in 150 years, amid the collapse of the local currency, the decline in the value of wages, and the recording of a sharp rise in prices, which plunged more than 82% of the population into poverty, in parallel with the banks imposing harsh restrictions on withdrawing Deposits in foreign and local currencies.

Between Ramadan and Mother's Day.. The mothers of martyrs and prisoners are images of endless pain and pain

For the seventeenth year in a row, the prisoner, Murad Muhammad Reda Abu Al-Rub, receives the blessed month of Ramadan in the prisons of the occupation, whose courts have sentenced him to life imprisonment 4 times, which cast a shadow over the conditions of his family, especially the seventieth mother, Rasmiya, "Umm Al-Abd", whose feelings are mixed between sadness and occasion. And the occupation deprives her of the pleasure of her liver during Ramadan and on Mother’s Day .

And the mother says: "My pain has no limits. All mothers rejoice and celebrate, but my joys are still captive. What increases my pain is that Murad was the only one of my children who lives with us in our house, after his brothers lived in France years ago, where they live and work, and his sisters got married. We are tired of this life that is associated with the occupation and its prisons, and whenever we gather at the iftar table or the advent of Ramadan, we cry and regret, and we have nothing but patience and supplication to the Lord of the Worlds to release his prison and bring us together with him soon.” On the first day of Ramadan, an atmosphere of sadness prevailed in the house of Murad's family in the town of Jalboun, Jenin, and his father said: "Throughout Ramadan, we feel nothing but sadness, so how long will this harsh suffering continue since his arrest on 8/31/2006? We have become prisoners and have not known the taste of joy." On all occasions, he meant all of our lives, and his presence had a great influence on our lives, adding joy and happiness, but his absence was long,” indicating that he built a house for him in the hope of his liberation soon and to be ready to receive him and his wedding.

In the Martyrs’ Cemetery, Houriya al-Tubasi received Ramadan and Mother’s Day, like all occasions that turned into sadness and tears for her loved ones, whom the occupation deprived of them, her sons Ahmed and Islam, who were martyred during the Al-Aqsa Intifada, and Saeed and Muhammad, who are behind bars in the occupation prisons that separated the family, by targeting all the children on the over the past years.

Al-Tubasi says: "All occasions, especially in March, have a more painful impact, in light of the tragedies and woes that we have lived through since the martyrdom of Ahmed and Islam in the prime of their youth, and the arrest of Saeed, who is sentenced to 32 life sentences, and the continuation of Muhammad's imprisonment behind bars and he is still arrested, so my wish is that all my family will gather around me." In Ramadan... Saeed, we have not been reunited with him since the 21st of Ramadan, and none of my children were spared from being chased and captured, and I spent years deprived of all of them, and the occupation was not satisfied with that, as it demolished our house as a punishment, but we will remain proud and proud of the steadfastness of my heroes behind bars.

Near the tombs of Ahmed and Islam in the martyrs' cemetery in Jenin camp, Umm Abdullah sat, and despite her patience and high spirits, she is still in pain due to the severity of oppression and the types of suffering she endured because of the calamities that the occupation made in her life. On occasions, I cry and suffer, but we will not lose hope, and we hope that all prisoners , especially those with high sentences, will be released, and that they will be with us and between us on the next holiday.” The same bitter reality and painful scenes are repeated in the house of the prisoner Mutassim Raddad in the village of Sidon in Tulkarem. His mother, Amna, welcomed the blessed month of Ramadan and Mother’s Day with tears and feelings of fear and anxiety for her prisoner, whom the occupation authorities refuse to release despite the seriousness of his health condition, and she said, “It is the seventeenth Ramadan in a row.” Who receives the beloved of my heart, Mutassim, away from my arms. I lost the ability to live and sleep because I worried about his life because he suffered from several diseases that he contracted after his arrest.. On all occasions I cry and my tears did not dry for a moment, and when we sit at the Ramadan table, I suffocate and suffer because of his absence, because he suffers from a disease Intestinal cancer, an enlarged liver and spleen, and severe and continuous bleeding, and despite this, the occupation authorities refuse to provide him with appropriate treatment.”

Ahed's mother hugs Mutasem, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence, and says, "He was arrested several times, but they did not weaken his resolve, even during his pursuit, he did not suffer from diseases, but his heroism and his survival from assassination attempts angered them, so they took revenge on him when he fell ill ... years ago." And Mutasim is suffering and suffering, so where is justice and human rights?”

She added: "We knocked on all doors, and all institutions took action to save his life, but the occupation refuses to treat him or release him. He lives in horrific moments, and danger threatens his life every moment. All occasions and holidays have ended in our lives, even during Ramadan and Mother's Day. All mothers rejoice, but I I am crying and in pain, but my hope in God is great... that Mutassim will be victorious and return to me victorious, not in a shroud."

Deutsche Bank raises a state of anxiety in the financial markets

Fear returned to grip the financial markets , especially in Europe, where the banking sector continued to decline despite the statements of politicians who tried to reassure investors about the stability of the financial system.

In Europe, the stock exchanges declined by 1.74% in Paris, 1.66% in Frankfurt and 1.26% in London, after recording an improvement at the beginning of the week following the acquisition of Credit Suisse by UBS.

Michael Hewson, analyst at CMC Markets commented, "The uncertainty in the markets has caused the banking sector to lose all of the gains recorded since the beginning of the year within three weeks."

However, the expert could not identify a "clear catalyst" to explain the downward movement during the day "other than uncertainty about the possibility of future interest rate increases and the effects they may have on financial stability" and other sectors of the economy.

Raising interest rates could penalize weaker banks and raise fears of new bankruptcies after those witnessed by Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) in the US, and then two other US banks this month.

"It appears that these concerns have reached a tipping point before the weekend," Hewson said.

The banking sector declined in the broader Stoxx Europe 600 index by 3.53% after a sharp increase in the cost of insurance against default risks (CDS), which raised concerns about the resilience of European banks, led by Deutsche Bank .

With difficulty, the bank's share closed at a loss of 8.53%, settling at 8.54 euros, after losing up to 13% during the day, in the third consecutive session of declines on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Its competitor Commerzbank lost 5.45%, down to 8.88 euros.

Many European banks also closed lower. In Paris, Societe Generale shares fell 6.13%, the largest decline in the CAC 40 index, and BNP Paribas lost 5.27%. In London, Standard Chartered fell by 6.42%, Barclays (-4.21%) and NatWest (-3.58%).

- A matter of trust -
These declines occurred despite central banks' move to provide liquidity and efforts to restore confidence in the banking system.

Neither the remarks of Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, and her reaffirmation of the resilience of the banking system which she said “has a solid position in terms of capital and liquidity,” nor those of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz or French President Emmanuel Macron, were able to calm souls.

The French president stressed that "the eurozone is the region in which banks enjoy the greatest degree of resilience," while the German chancellor stressed that "there is no need for concern" for Deutsche Bank.

In Zurich, Credit Suisse fell by 5.19% and UBS by 3.55%.

Bloomberg said that these banks are among those suspected by the US judiciary of helping wealthy Russians circumvent Western sanctions.

In contact with Agence France-Presse, Credit Suisse refused to comment on these accusations, while UBS did not respond to similar questions directed to it by AFP.

As for the US indices, they moved quietly, with the Dow Jones index and the broader S&P 500 index approaching balance, while the Nasdaq index declined by 0.38% at around 17:00 GMT.

Banks recorded a decline in New York, but to a lesser degree, ranging between 0.19 and 2.69%, before Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's meeting with financial regulators on Friday, including Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

- Demand for dollars and government bonds -

The bond market was once again a haven for investors, and the yield on US government bonds for 10 years was 3.37%, compared to 3.42% the day before the close.

As another safe haven, the dollar rose by 0.68% against the euro to $1,075 per euro.

Oil prices have also fallen, which often indicates that investors fear an economic recession.

A barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea for May delivery lost 1.37%, down to $74.88, while a barrel of West Texas Intermediate crude for the same period declined by 1.10%, settling at $69.19.

Biden: China "has not yet sent" weapons to Russia

US President Joe Biden announced in Ottawa that China had "not sent" weapons to Russia since President Vladimir Putin's forces began invading Ukraine a little over a year ago.

During a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Biden said, "For the past three months, I've been hearing that China will supply important weapons to Russia... They haven't done that yet. This doesn't mean they won't do it, but they haven't done it yet." He added, "I do not underestimate China. I do not underestimate Russia," considering that reports of rapprochement between them may have been "exaggerated."

Biden, on the other hand, stressed the strong ties between Western democracies, saying, "If anything happens, it is that the West has become significantly more integrated."

Biden spoke about US security alliances in the Pacific region, similar to the Quartet, which also includes Australia, India and Japan, as well as the Okus alliance with Australia and Britain.

During a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow this week, Russia and Beijing praised the "special nature" of their relations. But the Chinese leader did not promise to provide weapons to the depleted Russian forces in Ukraine, a step that, if it took place, would have required the imposition of Western sanctions on China.

This is how the prisoners make their Ramadan sweets and food.. A life despite the difficulties!

The prisoners in the Israeli occupation prisons do not leave a means that confirms their steadfastness and steadfastness and makes their lives come alive without using them, so they make their own food and sweets and create their own atmosphere in the blessed month of Ramadan , in an attempt by them to live in an atmosphere similar to life outside, compensating themselves for deprivation.

Try to make the atmosphere of Ramadan!

According to what was confirmed by the editor, Muhammad al-Taj, in an interview with Al-Quds.com, the prisoners are trying to live the atmosphere of Ramadan, and to compensate themselves a little from the outside. They have close relationships.

Al-Taj says: "The prisoners try to gather joy, provide special Ramadan meals and special sweets, and do not forget their nights and times, so they prepare competitions through a general national cultural committee from all factions, and allocate prizes for them, as well as hold entertainment competitions."

According to the crown, the prisoners strive hard in worship as well, especially in the last ten days of Ramadan, and some of them allocate times for retreat, and they are keen to call the call to prayer at all times, and they warn of the approaching times of suhoor and iftar.

For his part, the editor, Louay Al-Mansi, told Al-Quds.com: “The prisoners organize evening parties in the departments, while there is an atmosphere for worship, especially Taraweeh in the rooms, and the prisoners pray noon and afternoon only in the square. Friday, gatherings are forbidden for them.” Al-Mansi points out that the current fascist occupation government does not rule out taking any measures against the prisoners, but the prisoners alone managed to force the prison administration to respond to their demands.

This is how sweets are made

The prisoners make their Ramadan sweets from scratch, and they, as the forgotten editor confirms, recycle what remains of their food, and turn them into sweets similar to the sweets abroad, such as kunafa, qatayef, float, and others.

Al-Mansi says: “Sweets in Ramadan are missing in prison. The prisoners try to produce them with what is available, and they learn to make them from each other. They make qatayef and awamah, from vermicelli, by soaking them in halal for two hours, to become a dough and fermenting them by adding (a little 7-Up or Sprite). Then they pour the qatayef into the pan and bake it, while the float is poured and fried in oil on a frying pan as well.”

As for the Qatayef filling, it is often stuffed with walnuts because it is available in the cantina, and cheese is sometimes stuffed with yellow cheese that not everyone likes. The prisoners make sweets such as harissa, basbousah and between two fires, from the semolina available in the cantina, and the prisoners also prepare milk and rice, according to what Al-Mansi explains.

Whereas, Kunafa is made from the inner filling of “fino” bread, where the bread is dried and ground, then roasted, and it becomes dough for Kunafa, and its ingredients are present to some extent in the cantina, and it is baked on gas and available tiles.

For his part, Al-Taj affirms: "The sweets are made by the prisoners, from what is available from the contents of the sweets-making siltz, so they re-make what is available, to become sweets, in an attempt to make themselves happy."
Suhoor and breakfast food.. "This story"

The supplies of some dishes are not available, so the prisoners try to provide them by collecting them from each other, or what is provided to them by the prison administration, so they recycle what is available, whether meat or some vegetables, and produce new dishes, such as mansaf or maqlouba.

Mostly, according to Al-Mansi, the prisoners’ meals in Ramadan are “dry food” because it is available, but the prisoners try to recycle what they have and reproduce it as delicious dishes at the breakfast table in Ramadan, and they may make soups from the available vegetables or “freekeh” at times, As for the juices, they are found in the “cantina.” As for the suhoor, their food is eggs, chickpeas, beans, sweetness, and simple things found in the cantina.

In turn, Al-Taj says: "The prisoners are trying to make the atmosphere of Suhoor and Iftar, so they try to prepare for it with a special budget from their allocations in the cantina, and they try to reproduce the available food provided by the prison administration, so that it becomes a new food for Ramadan."

It is noteworthy that, according to the Prisoners’ Association, the occupation forces are detaining (4,800) prisoners in (23) prisons and detention and investigation centers, including (29) female prisoners in “Damon” prison, and among the total number of prisoners are (170) children. As minors, they are imprisoned in (Ofer, Megiddo, and Damon) prisons.

Macron and Tebboune turn the page on the diplomatic crisis between Paris and Algeria

French President Emmanuel Macron and Algerian Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during a phone conversation on Friday, turned the page on the recent diplomatic crisis between their two countries, stressing their desire to continue "strengthening bilateral cooperation," according to the Elysee.

The two presidents removed the "misunderstanding" related to the dispute over the French-Algerian activist Amira Bouraoui and "agreed to strengthen communication channels... to prevent the recurrence of this kind of unfortunate misunderstanding," the French presidency added in a statement.

Despite a decision banning her from leaving Algeria, Bouraoui entered Tunisia on February 3, before Tunisian security stopped her while she was trying to board a flight to Paris.

She was finally able to travel to France on February 6, despite the Tunisian authorities' attempt to deport her to Algeria.

Algeria considered that its arrival in France constitutes a "secret and illegal evacuation" that was carried out with the help of French diplomats and security personnel, and summoned its ambassador to Paris, Saeed Moussa, for consultations.

The Elysee stated in its statement, "President Abdelmadjid Tebboune informed the head of state of the return of the Algerian ambassador to France in the coming days," confirming a statement to this effect made by Tebboune this week.

And Amira Bouraoui, a 46-year-old doctor, was known in 2014 for her participation in the "Barakat" movement against the late President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's candidacy for a fourth term.

She was imprisoned in 2020 on several charges and then released on July 2, 2020. She faces a two-year prison sentence for “insulting” Islam due to comments she made on her Facebook page.

After a sudden deterioration in relations in the fall of 2021, Paris and Algeria worked to improve their relations during the visit of the French President last August to Algeria, where he signed a joint declaration with Tebboune to advance bilateral cooperation.

According to the Elysee, the two presidents "talked about bilateral relations and the implementation of the Algiers Declaration signed during the President's visit to Algeria in August. They stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in all fields on the horizon of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's state visit to France."

The French presidency added, "The two presidents also discussed issues of regional stability, particularly combating terrorism in the Sahel region."

This is how the occupation assassinated the two martyrs, Khazim and Shurim!

Whenever Thursday falls, the atmosphere of fear, anxiety and mobilization prevails in the city of Jenin and its camp, after the repeated occupation operations and massacres led and carried out by the special undercover units since the beginning of this year on this day, which has become a symbol and is considered for them as "black" and a symbol of "blood and aggression." and massacres.” After the recent assassination, the number of martyrs in Jenin governorate rose to 35, including an elderly woman and children.

Time and place ..

The special units determined the place and time, and when it reached 2:15, on the afternoon of Thursday corresponding to 16-3-2023, the undercover units carried out their new operation. Unusually, and with the repeated failure of their night and morning operations, they chose the peak time on the special day at the end of the week, which It is not expected by an ordinary citizen or a resistance fighter, as Jenin is witnessing a wide and large movement and human and traffic congestion to prepare everyone for the weekend and the Friday holiday. It also chose the most vital place in the city, the central area at the intersection between Abu Bakr Street and the Martyr Yahya Ayyash Circle, and did not take into account the presence of hundreds of civilians in A large commercial gathering, which appeared clearly in the videos documented by activists and published after the crime, and among its victims was the 13-year-old Omar Muhammad Awadin.

On that day, the two resistance fighters, Nidal Amin Khazim and Youssef Salih Shreim , from the Jenin camp, arrived at a barbershop in the center of the city, and after completing their haircut, they boarded the motorcycle owned and driven by Khazim, and set off on the way back to the camp, but they did not know that five undercover men in civilian clothes were They followed up and monitored their movements with a local car, so they fell into a tight ambush and were surrounded by bullets from all sides.

Martyrs recounted to the reporter of "Al-Quds" dot-com that while the bike was passing in front of the "Al-Nimr Mall" building, they heard the sound of gunfire, and soon the undercover men appeared in the place, heavily armed, terribly fast and swift, and according to witnesses, and video clips filmed by citizens, one of the undercover men He suddenly drew his weapon and fired bullets directly at the head of the resistance fighter Nidal from scratch, and although he fell to the ground covered in blood, the undercover soldiers surrounded him and one of them shot him directly in the head, and fired in the air to prevent citizens from approaching them and the body of the martyr whose body was torn apart by bullets.

As for the fighter Shreim, the witnesses mentioned that he jumped off the vehicle and tried to flee, but the undercover soldiers chased him and shot him until he was killed at the same moment when the news of the assassination spread, so that Jenin rose up at a time when the undercover seemed to withdraw towards their vehicle to flee quickly, but they fired profusely. To disperse the angry crowd, which exposed them, while the child Omar Awadin was riding his bicycle heading to his father's nearby shop, they hit him with a live bullet that killed him instantly.

The course of events that followed after the crime indicates that the undercover plan was to carry out the execution, and immediately withdraw from the crime scene before it was discovered, taking advantage of the crowded situation in the city, and using a Palestinian vehicle, but soon the events and the scene turned, as the people were able to identify the undercover people themselves And their clothes and vehicles, so that the streets of the city turned into an arena of violent confrontations, and according to witnesses, within minutes, clips of Al-Khazem’s execution and the undercover operation and their photos spread, so hundreds of young men rushed to chase them from one area to another, and their vehicle was attacked with stones and everything that fell on the hands of angry demonstrators, who were joined by resistance fighters who opened fire. However, it turned out that the occupation forces, as usual, prepared an evacuation plan and support for the undercover soldiers.

While the undercover men were trapped inside the vehicle, the occupation sent more than 40 military patrols to the streets of the city to rescue the undercover soldiers, who rushed to open fire abundantly. Witnesses say, "Every fetus rose up, men, children, women, and even the elderly. They chased the vehicle and threw everything at it to stop it, but the undercover soldiers opened the way with bullets." The neighborhood that rained heavily, which led to the martyrdom of the young man, Louay Khalil Al-Zaghair.

The bullets were the only way for the undercover soldiers to escape from Jenin's angry grip, which led to the fall of the wounded, whose number, according to the city's hospitals, reached 21, in addition to the martyr al-Zaghayer.

In the midst of the whistling of bullets, the undercover Arabs quickly stopped at the intersection of Abu Bakr Street leading to the Grand Mosque and the main roundabout, and managed to escape from the vehicle and take refuge in the Al-Omari Press, after their bullets destroyed the vehicles parked in the area and Al-Aqsa Restaurant, whose owner told Al-Quds.com that he was surprised by a car. The undercover men stopped in the middle of the street after they were unable to move in front of the crowded vehicles and the anger of the people, then they jumped from them in the midst of the gunfire and fled towards the neighboring printing house, after they inflicted losses on his restaurant and his vehicle, which showed traces of bullets clearly.

The owner of the Al-Omari printing press told Al-Quds.com that the undercover men quickly entered the back of his printing press, brandishing their weapons, immediately put on masks, then gathered all the workers and a Palestinian family with them from inside, including a child. They left their vehicle in the street for fear of bullets and took cover. Inside the printing press, he adds: "They detained us inside a small room belonging to the printing press, and prevented us from moving. Macron will visit China to work with Xi on the "return to peace" in Ukraine

The Elysee Palace announced Friday that French President Emmanuel Macron will take advantage of his "state visit" to China from April 5 to 8 to "work" with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the "return to peace" in Ukraine .

The French presidency said in a statement that Macron's visit will lead him to Beijing as well as to Canton, stressing that he is "committed to maintaining a continuous and demanding dialogue with China."

Macron announced at the end of February that he would visit China in early April, but he did not reveal the exact dates and cities involved.

"The French and Chinese presidents will hold in-depth discussions about the war in Ukraine to work for the return of peace within the framework of international law, in particular Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the Elysee said in its statement.

This week, Xi visited Russia, where he showed his strong support for his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in confronting the West. And Beijing put forward proposals before that to settle the Ukrainian conflict.

France intends to push China, which has not condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, to use its influence with Moscow to persuade Putin to sit down at the negotiating table with Kiev.

According to the French presidency, the talks at the beginning of April "will also focus on international crises in the Middle East and Africa and tensions in the Indian and Pacific region."

She added, "The reopening of China after the pandemic provides an opportunity to re-launch the dynamism of French-Chinese relations at all levels, at a time when international tensions and crises require more than ever before giving a horizon to this strategic partnership."

The Elysee said in its statement that the visit will include three main axes: strategic issues and international crises, cooperation in facing major global challenges, and economic relations.

Macron also announced at a press conference Friday in Brussels that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will accompany him "as part of the visit program" based on the principle of "European unity", which is "a prerequisite for building a balanced partnership with China."

And the Elysee added that the visit also aims to "give a new impetus to French-Chinese cooperation in facing global issues in which a strong commitment from China is necessary given the impact of its development on the rest of the planet," and among these issues are climate and biodiversity.

And she warned that "lies and violations of commitments are a sure way to turn Israel into an isolated state."

Peace Now said, "After a meeting between Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Jordan and the United States on March 19 in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, it was decided to halt construction in settlements for a period of four months in an attempt to calm tensions in the region before Ramadan."

Italy calls for Tunisia's support, expressing its fear of an "unprecedented wave of migration"

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called Friday in Brussels to support Tunisia , which is facing a serious financial crisis, expressing her fear that its difficulties could lead to "provoking an unprecedented wave of migration" towards Europe.

"I raised the issue of Tunisia before the European Council, because not everyone may be aware of the dangers posed by the situation in Tunisia and the need to support stability in a country suffering from major financial problems," she told reporters, explaining that she also raised the issue during the bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

In response to a question about a possible Italian-French mission to Tunisia with the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ylva Johansson, Meloni said, "Yes, there is a mission at the level of the two foreign ministers. Many are heading to Tunisia at the present time."

"If we don't deal with these problems appropriately, there is a risk of sparking an unprecedented wave of immigration," said the prime minister, whose far-right government tends to take an anti-immigration approach.

Georgia Meloni also discussed the situation in Tunisia with the European Commissioner for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, who "will go there in the coming days." And she stressed "the need to work at the diplomatic level to persuade the two parties, the International Monetary Fund and the Tunisian government, to conclude an agreement to achieve financial stability."

Tunisia has been negotiating for months with the International Monetary Fund to obtain a loan of about two billion dollars, but it seems that discussions between the two parties have stopped since the announcement of a preliminary agreement in mid-October.

For his part, the European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell warned Monday that the situation in Tunisia is "extremely dangerous," even pointing to the risk of "collapse" of the state, which is likely to "cause an influx of migrants towards the European Union and cause instability in the region." Middle East and North Africa".

Tunisia denounced Borrell's statements, saying they were "inappropriate" with the situation.

UN accuses Ukraine and Russia of "extrajudicial" executions of prisoners of war

The United Nations on Friday accused Ukrainian and Russian forces of carrying out dozens of extrajudicial executions of prisoners of war during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The head of the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner, expressed "great concern" about the execution of "25 Russian prisoners of war" by the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as "the execution of 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war" by the Russians.

Bogner confirmed that the United Nations documented these executions of Russians, which were carried out by Ukrainian forces "often ... immediately after their capture on the battlefield."

She added that the United Nations is aware of five investigations conducted by Kiev related to 22 victims, but "we have not been informed of any prosecution of the perpetrators" of these crimes.

As for the Russian armed forces' execution of 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war "soon after their arrest," the official said that 11 of these operations were carried out by the Russian armed Wagner Group.

Ukraine and Russia have been exchanging accusations since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 of mistreating prisoners, which constitute war crimes.

And the Wagner Group is on the front lines of the battle for control of the city of Bakhmut, the epicenter of the battles in eastern Ukraine.
In early March, a video appeared to show the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russian soldiers, shocking Ukraine.

In November, the Kremlin denounced two videos that appeared to show the execution of about a dozen Russian soldiers after they surrendered to Ukrainian forces.
