Mamdani Cancels Pro-Israel Decrees and Sparks Political Confrontation with Tel Aviv and Washington Over Freedom of Expression

In an early and decisive political move, New York City's new mayor Zohran Mamdani sparked widespread controversy within the United States and abroad, after canceling upon assuming office a set of executive orders issued by his predecessor Eric Adams, which were widely considered biased towards Israel and restrictive to freedom of expression. The decision, which came in the first hours of his term, was met with great welcome from supporters of Palestinian rights, and strong condemnation from the Israeli government and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mamdani, who took the constitutional oath on the first of the new year, canceled all executive orders issued after September 26, 2024, the day on which bribery charges were brought against Adams. Among the most prominent of these orders was a decree prohibiting New York City from entering contracts with entities "that discriminate against the state of Israel or its citizens", including support for boycott campaigns. He also canceled another decree that adopts the definition of the "International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance" (IHRA) for antisemitism, a controversial definition that human rights activists see as being used to criminalize criticism of Israel and link anti-Zionism to antisemitism.

Palestinian and Islamic organizations in New York saw in this step a correction of a deviated constitutional path. Where Nasreen Issa, from the Palestinian Youth Movement in New York, considered that Israel and its supporters have been seeking for years to "criminalize opposition", and that canceling these orders represents protection for the city's residents' rights and the dignity of Palestinians. In turn, Afaf Nashash, director of the New York branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), described the canceled decree as an unconstitutional attack that puts Israel first at the expense of freedom of expression.

In contrast, the Israeli response came swiftly and sharply. Where the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Mamdani "reveals his true face", and considered his decisions "pouring fuel on the fire of antisemitism". As for Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli, he went further by using language described as Islamophobic, accusing Mamdani of being "sympathetic to Hamas", and linking him to London mayor Sadiq Khan, in reference to what he called "political Islam". These accusations were met with outright rejection, as there are no known connections between the two men and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Activists believe that this Israeli escalation does not actually relate to municipal policies, but to an attempt to control the general narrative amid Israel's declining global image. Nasreen Issa  said in a press statement that Israel, after losing in the court of public opinion, has resorted to pushing towards criminalizing discourse critical of it, considering that any support for Palestinians or objection to occupation policies is unacceptable from Tel Aviv's point of view.

The criticisms did not come  from Israel alone, where the Trump administration expressed its concern, and warned Harmit Dillon, Assistant Attorney General for Human Rights, that her department would monitor "any violation of religious freedoms" in New York, threatening investigation and legal prosecution. This position reflected the continuation of interference between federal politics and local debate on the limits of freedom of expression, especially when it comes to Israel.

In the midst of this controversy, Mamdani was keen to affirm that he clearly distinguishes between criticizing the policies of the state of Israel and antisemitism. During his inauguration ceremony, he pledged to maintain the mayor's office for combating antisemitism, confirming that his administration will celebrate and protect the Jewish community. These messages came in the context of his attempt to defuse the accusations that have long pursued him due to his positions supportive of Palestinian rights.

Mamdani's rise represents a notable shift in American local politics. The 34-year-old young man, and first Muslim mayor of New York, took the oath on a copy of the Quran, in a symbolic scene reflecting the city's diversity. Despite his limited fame when announcing his candidacy late in 2024, he succeeded in building a broad popular base by focusing on housing issues and living costs, achieving a resounding victory over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the primaries, then in the general elections.

Some of Mamdani's supporters believe that his explicit support for Palestinian rights played a role in mobilizing voters, especially amid the growing popular anger from Israel's war on Gaza and what many describe as genocide. In contrast, his opponents tried to portray these positions as a political burden, but election results showed that the general mood in New York has become more accepting of discourse that criticizes Israel without it being automatically viewed as antisemitic.

Mamdani's decisions reveal a growing rift in the traditional American consensus on protecting Israel from any institutional criticism. Canceling municipal orders does not have a direct international impact, but it symbolizes a deeper cultural and political transformation, where the automatic link between criticizing Israel and antisemitism is no longer acceptable to broad sectors of public opinion, especially in multicultural major cities.

Experts believe that the angry Israeli response may be a double-edged sword. Instead of deterring American local officials, this escalation may lead to enhancing Mamdani's image as a defender of constitutional freedoms in the face of external pressures. Moreover, employing rhetoric of betrayal and Islamophobia threatens to undermine traditional sympathy for Israel, and gives its opponents more space to affirm their narrative about silencing critical voices.

Occupation Fires on Farmers East of Gaza

Israeli occupation forces fired today, Saturday, on Palestinian farmers east of the Gaza Strip, without reporting any injuries.

Local sources reported that occupation soldiers stationed in military watchtowers perched on the border strip east of Gaza City fired their machine guns at farmers while they were working in their agricultural lands east of the Shujaiya neighborhood, forcing them to leave the area, without reporting any casualties.

Occupation forces deliberately target farmers and fishermen daily in the border and maritime areas of the Gaza Strip, in an attempt to prevent them from practicing their work on their lands and fishing waters.

West Bank.. Palestinian injured in clashes with Israeli army and settlers

Ramallah/ Awad Al-Rajoub/

Clashes erupted on Saturday evening between Palestinians, the Israeli army, and settlers in various areas of the occupied West Bank, resulting in the injury of a Palestinian youth.

Voice of Palestine radio reported that a youth was injured after settlers attacked residents' homes in the town of Beita, south of Nablus city (north), without providing further details on the nature of the injury.

The youths confronted the settlers in the Al-Zahra area on the outskirts of Beita.

In a separate incident south of Nablus as well, Palestine TV indicated that a Palestinian home on the outskirts of Burin village was attacked with stones by settlers.

On the raids front, the TV said that clashes erupted "between the youths and occupation forces in the towns of Na'lin and Al-Mazra'a Al-Gharbiya, west and northwest of Ramallah city (center)".

The army also raided the city of Tubas and the villages of Rummana and Kafr Dan, west and northwest of Jenin city (north), the town of Anabta east of Tulkarm city (north), and the villages of Al-Mughayyir, Shabtin, and Jaljulia in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate.

In the southern West Bank, the radio indicated that clashes erupted during the army's raid on the town of Beit Amr, north of Hebron city.

Also in the southern West Bank, the official Palestinian news agency "WAFA" said that the Israeli army arrested an entire family from the village of Kisan, east of Bethlehem city.

The agency noted that "occupation forces arrested the citizen Mahmoud Ouda Ghazal (55 years old) and his wife Leila Khalil Abu Dia (50 years old) and their sons: Abdul Rahman (20 years old) and Muhammad (27 years old) and his wife Hiba Taqatqa (25 years old), after raiding and searching their home".

It indicated that the arrest came hours after more than 30 settlers raided the village earlier on Saturday, wounding a child with gunfire, and raiding a school and a number of homes.

Since the start of the genocide war in Gaza on October 8, 2023, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the killing of at least 1,105 Palestinians, injuring about 11,000, in addition to arresting more than 21,000.

Meanwhile, the Israeli genocide with American support in Gaza has left more than 71,000 Palestinian dead and 171,000 injured, mostly children and women, and destruction affecting about 90 percent of the civilian infrastructure, with the United Nations estimating the reconstruction cost at about 70 billion dollars.

Appointment of Delcy Rodríguez to assume the presidency of Venezuela on an interim basis

The Constitutional Chamber of the Venezuelan Supreme Court, today Sunday, tasked Vice President Delcy Rodríguez with assuming the position of president on an interim basis in the absence of Nicolás Maduro, who was arrested early Saturday in Caracas during an operation carried out by American forces.

The court's decision stipulates that Rodríguez, in her capacity as interim president, shall assume all the duties and powers granted to the position of President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in order to ensure the continuity of administration and the comprehensive defense of the homeland, as stated by the head of the Constitutional Chamber, Tania D'Amelio, during the reading of the decision in an official television broadcast.

The judges have not yet declared Maduro absent permanently, which would have led to early elections within 30 days.

Yesterday Saturday, Rodríguez demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, affirming that Maduro is the "only president" of the country, in a televised speech broadcast by the official television following a meeting of the National Defense Council.

During the speech, she indicated that the Venezuelan people responded to the mobilization call that President Maduro had announced previously, confirming the descent of popular cadres into the streets, and the deployment of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and citizen security agencies, within the framework of what she described as the defense of national independence and sovereignty after a "brutal attack" that the country suffered early Saturday.

It is worth noting that Maduro arrived in the United States on Saturday evening local time after being arrested by American forces during a military operation in Caracas, and it is expected that he will appear before a federal court in Manhattan, New York City, tomorrow Monday.

Doctors Without Borders: Israeli Ban Threatens to Halt Our Activities in Gaza

The head of "Doctors Without Borders," Isabelle Defourny, warned on Saturday that the organization may end its operations in the Gaza Strip by next March if Israel does not reverse its decision to ban its activities, along with those of 36 other organizations.

Israel confirmed on Thursday that it "will implement the ban" on the activities of 37 major international humanitarian organizations in the Gaza Strip because they did not provide it with lists of names of their Palestinian employees in accordance with a new legislation.

"Doctors Without Borders" described this decision as a "flagrant violation."

Defourny said that "to work in the occupied Palestinian territories, the names of employees must be registered, and this registration expired in December 2025."

"Doctors Without Borders" includes about 40 international staff in the Gaza Strip and collaborates with 800 Palestinian employees in 8 hospitals.

Defourny said, "We still have international staff who were able to enter Gaza recently in the past few days."

She added, "We are the second largest distributor of water in the Gaza Strip; in 2025, we treated slightly more than 100,000 people with burns or various injuries, and we rank second in terms of the number of births we conduct."

Defourny considered the Israeli decision to stem from the fact that non-governmental organizations "witness the violence committed by the Israeli army" in Gaza.

She added, "International journalists have never been allowed to enter Gaza, while the Israeli army targets local journalists and kills them."

She pointed out that "more than 500 humanitarian workers have been killed—including 15 members of Doctors Without Borders—in Israeli raids since October 2023."

Protests ignite in Paris: Demonstrators burn the American flag in rejection of Maduro's abduction

The French capital Paris witnessed, on Saturday evening, a wave of angry protests that gathered in the "Republic" square, where activists and demonstrators set fire to the American flag.

This expressive step comes as a direct and decisive reaction to the military intervention carried out by the United States in Venezuela, which resulted in the abduction of President Nicolas Maduro and his forcible transfer outside his country's borders.

These demonstrations are part of an escalating international movement condemning the military operation led by the Trump administration, where protesters in the streets of Paris raised banners calling for the necessity of respecting state sovereignty and stopping the use of brute force in determining the fate of peoples.

The demonstrators described the American behavior as "political thuggery" and military action that transcends all international norms and charters, which threatens to undermine the authority of the United Nations and replace diplomacy with the law of the jungle.

The scene of the flames consuming the American symbol in the heart of one of Europe's most important capitals reflects a state of indignation against what is called "regime change by force."

French activists during the protest emphasized that the kidnapping of a president with legitimate status, regardless of disagreement with his policies, represents a dangerous precedent that could extend to other countries.

The participants called on the French government and the European Union to take a firmer stance towards these unilateral actions carried out by Washington.

With the increasing intensity of popular criticism in Paris, it seems that the world is heading towards more division between supporters of the American decisiveness against what Washington sees as a "narcotics threat," and those rejecting the crossing of national state boundaries.

The "Republic" square remains a witness that geographical distance did not prevent the echo of what happened in Caracas from stirring the anger of global streets that see this operation as a blatant assault on national choice freedom.

Trump: Managing Venezuela by Force, and Placing Its Oil Under American Custody

Washington – Saeed Arqat

In his press conference held at noon in his Mar-a-Lago resort on Saturday afternoon, the American President Donald Trump made unprecedented statements regarding Venezuela, announcing that the United States would take over the "administration of the country" temporarily, following a military operation that he said succeeded in paralyzing Venezuelan capabilities and capturing the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. These statements, which came in a press conference laden with political and military messages, did not conceal the essence of the new American approach: direct intervention, actual administration, and a clear link between military force, oil, and the Monroe Doctrine.

It is noted that the Monroe Doctrine dates back to the fifth American President James Monroe in 1823; the Monroe Doctrine, which is considered a fundamental part of American foreign policy since that time, came as a warning to European powers against any additional colonization or intervention in the Americas, as this region is an area of influence for the United States.

Trump clearly stated that Washington would administer Venezuela until ensuring a "safe, sound, and wise" transition, repeating this description more than once, in a notable indication that the United States does not trust the Venezuelans' ability, or any internal path, to produce stable authority without external supervision. Despite his statement that he does not want to "intervene in someone else's access to power," the mere announcement of administering a sovereign country entails direct intervention in the core of the political process.

In an attempt to justify this shocking step, Trump presented the military operation as a stunning display of power, saying that all Venezuelan military capabilities became incapacitated within hours, and that American army forces, in cooperation with law enforcement agencies, managed to capture Maduro "in the dead of night." He confirmed that the attack was overwhelming and swift, and resulted in no American losses, neither in lives nor equipment, presenting the operation as a model of American military efficiency.

However, the most dangerous part in Trump's statements was not the military aspect alone, but what followed it of a clear political and economic declaration. He affirmed that the United States would rebuild Venezuela's oil infrastructure, and that American oil companies would invest billions of dollars to repair and restart it, with those companies bearing the costs directly. This public link between military intervention and oil management brought to mind historical models of resource-based intervention, but this time it came without ambiguity.

In this context, Trump clearly indicated that he is implementing the Monroe Doctrine, affirming that the Western Hemisphere falls within the American strategic sphere, and that what is happening in Venezuela is a matter concerning American security and interests. This statement, which revives a doctrine dating back to the 19th century, revealed the logic of hegemony underlying the discourse, where political and economic control is presented as "stability" and "temporary administration."

On the official level, American officials said that the "Delta Force" unit carried out the operation to capture Maduro, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the Venezuelan president has faced criminal charges in the United States for years, and that he "is not a legitimate president." This legal discourse, which portrays military intervention as an extension of enforcing American justice, sparked widespread criticism, especially in the absence of any international mandate or congressional decision.

In a notable escalation in the American discourse towards Cuba, Secretary of State Rubio threatened the possibility of repeating what he described as the "regime change" model that the United States followed in Venezuela, hinting that Havana might face a similar path if it continues, according to his expression, to challenge American interests. Rubio's statements came in the context of his defense of the American operation against Venezuela, where he considered that the message is directed to Washington's adversaries in the region, with Cuba at the forefront, that the United States is ready to use force to impose its political will. Rubio added that the Cuban leadership "knows the consequences well," in a reference interpreted by observers as a direct threat to revive intervention policies and regime change in Latin America

These developments come after months of gradual military escalation in the region, including the gathering of aircraft carriers, the seizure of oil tankers, and raids on boats that Washington says are linked to drug trafficking. It seems that the latest operation was not a surprising event, but the result of a long path of pressure that ended with imposing a fait accompli by force.

Trump's statements about readiness to launch a second attack "much larger" if necessary, and about the presence of American ground forces inside Venezuela, deepened fears of turning the "temporary administration" into an actual occupation with an open end. While the president spoke of peace, freedom, and justice for the Venezuelan people, the fundamental question remained suspended: Can these values be imposed by force, or is what is happening a repackaging of hegemony in a more explicit language?

The Monroe Doctrine in the 21st Century Formula

Trump's revival of the Monroe Doctrine is not just a historical invocation, but a blunt redefinition of American influence in Latin America. The difference today is that the discourse is no longer covered by diplomacy or alliances, but declared clearly: control in exchange for stability. This shift reflects the transition of American policy from managing influence to imposing it, which may open the door to long-term regional conflicts.

Oil as the Essence of the Decision, Not Its Result

When an American president directly links military intervention to restarting oil operations and achieving profits, talk of democracy becomes marginal. Oil here is not a side result of stability, but its main driver. This public admission undermines traditional moral narratives, and reinforces the impression that sovereignty is traded for resources, not popular legitimacy.

The Absent Legitimacy and Venezuela's Future

Perhaps the most dangerous thing in the scene is not the overthrow of Maduro, but the legal and political vacuum that follows it. Administering a country by force, without international mandate or clear time frame, places Venezuela before an uncertain future. Previous experiences indicate that "temporary administration" often prolongs, and that the cost of rebuilding externally imposed states is high in human and political terms.

Trump Opens Venezuelan Oil Doors to American Companies and Warns Venezuelan Military Leaders: 'Maduro's Fate Awaits You'

Just hours after the resounding fall of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro into the hands of American forces, President Donald Trump announced, on Saturday, a new phase of economic dominance, where he gave the green light to oil giants in the United States to head towards 'Caracas' to exploit the huge reserves of crude oil. This announcement crowns a swift military operation that changed the balance of power in Latin America.

In a press conference charged with the language of victory, Trump revealed his plan to involve major global oil companies in repairing what he described as the 'deteriorated infrastructure' of Venezuela's energy sector.

The American president confirmed that these companies will pump billions of dollars to rehabilitate wells and refineries, with the aim of starting to 'reap profits for the country'.

Despite this investment openness, Trump emphasized that the comprehensive ban on Venezuelan oil remains in effect, meaning tightening control over export outlets and placing them under direct Washington oversight.

Trump's speech was not limited to the economic aspect, but also directed direct intimidation messages to the political and military class in Venezuela, warning everyone who still owes allegiance to the previous regime that 'what happened to Maduro can happen to them too'.

This warning reflects the American administration's desire to dismantle any pockets of resistance within the Venezuelan military institution and push it to engage in the new path drawn by Washington.

Venezuela has been subject to tightened oil sanctions since 2019, where its production dwindled to about one million barrels per day, most of which was sold in the black market at low prices. In this context, Trump renewed his accusations against Caracas for using the proceeds of 'black gold' to fund criminal activities including drug trafficking, human trafficking, and kidnapping operations.

The weeks preceding the operation witnessed field escalation, where the American Navy seized two oil tankers for violating sanctions, a step that paved the way for the final overthrow of Maduro.

Venezuela today enters a new era where oil deals intertwine with gunpowder smoke.

While Trump promises prosperity built on American investments, the question remains about the extent of the Venezuelan street's acceptance of this direct intervention in its country's wealth, and how global markets will react to the return of Venezuelan crude under the American flag.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni: The American Operation in Venezuela is Legitimate and Defensive

In the first official reaction from a European capital, the Italian government issued a statement on Saturday from Palazzo Chigi, outlining Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's position on the swift military operation carried out by the United States early Saturday in Venezuela.

These statements come after US President Donald Trump announced the success of his forces in "capturing" Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, a move that shook the foundations of global diplomacy.

The Italian statement clarified that Meloni has been following the Venezuelan scene "from its first moments," remaining in constant contact with her Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

Rome's primary concern in these critical hours is ensuring the safety of the large Italian community residing there, which exceeds 160,000 citizens, giving Italy a direct interest in stabilizing the field situation.

The government reiterated its historical support for the Venezuelan people's aspirations toward a genuine "democratic transition," renewing its condemnation of the repressive actions pursued by the Maduro regime, whose recent election results Rome and most Western capitals refused to recognize.

In a balanced diplomatic reading, the Palazzo Chigi statement emphasized that external military force "is not the optimal path" for overthrowing authoritarian regimes, in an implicit reference to fears of the consequences of direct intervention.

Nevertheless, Meloni granted legitimacy to the operation from another angle, considering that intervention is "legitimate" when it comes to defending against "hybrid attacks" that affect national security.

The statement specifically mentioned entities affiliated with states that sponsor "drug trafficking," which completely aligns with Washington's accusations against the Maduro regime for managing what is known as the "Cartel de los Soles."

This Italian stance comes amid sharp global division; while Trump celebrates what he described as "cleansing" from drug terrorism, Russia, China, and Iran rushed to condemn the operation as a blatant "aggression" on sovereignty.

In contrast, neighboring countries like Colombia express deep concern over waves of human displacement that may follow this political earthquake.

Until now, no independent confirmations have been issued from within "Caracas" regarding Maduro's whereabouts, opening the door to all possibilities.

Rome's statements reflect an attempt to strike a middle ground; it supports Maduro's political departure, but fears the absence of international cover for snatch operations.

The lingering question remains: Will this operation lead to the desired democratic stability, or will it plunge Latin America into a new tunnel of major conflicts between the American and Russian poles?

Bombing Caracas and Kidnapping Maduro: The American Shock That Broke Taboos and Opened the Door to International Chaos

Washington – Saeed Arikat

In an unprecedented political and military shock in the history of modern Latin America, the world awoke to the news of the United States bombing the Venezuelan capital Caracas and arresting President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, in a swift operation that broke entrenched taboos in international relations, redefined the limits of American power, and raised heavy questions about the legitimacy of "internationalizing justice" through military force, and the future of a global system that has become more fragile and less predictable.

The operation, announced by US President Donald Trump himself via his "Truth Social" platform, was not presented as a traditional military action, but as the direct execution of an arrest warrant against a sovereign head of state. Trump described the strike as "successful and extensive," and confirmed the transfer of Maduro and his wife out of the country in preparation for their trial in the United States, with details to be presented later in a press conference. With this announcement, Washington not only used force but also ensured to give a domestic legal character to a cross-border military act.

The United States had first accused Maduro of drug trafficking in 2020, but it escalated the level unprecedentedly after Trump's return to power, when it designated him as the leader of a terrorist gang for drug trafficking and offered a record bounty of $50 million for anyone who contributes to his arrest. However, this campaign, despite its intensity, lacked sufficient public evidence, which raised widespread doubts about whether the case was truly legal or a political tool to overthrow an adversarial regime.

Even the characterization of what is known as the "Sun Cartel" remained controversial. Instead of a centralized organization led by the Venezuelan presidency, numerous reports and analyses point to a loose network including corrupt officials from mid-levels, opportunistic military personnel, and organized criminals, operating under state leniency and turning a blind eye, without being subject to direct management from the presidential palace. This disparity between the severity of the accusation and the vagueness of the facts increased the fragility of the American narrative before the international public opinion.

Republican Senator Mike Lee revealed via the "X" platform that Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed him that Maduro was arrested by American elements, and that the military operation was carried out to protect the force executing the arrest warrant. Lee went on to justify the strike by relying on the “Second Article” of the American Constitution, considering that the president has the authority to use force to protect Americans from a "real or imminent" threat, which is an expanded and dangerous interpretation of presidential powers outside the framework of international authorization.

In contrast, American sources told the New York Times that the operation resulted in no losses among US forces. But the Venezuelan narrative was completely different. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed that the government was unable to locate Maduro and his wife after the bombing, and demanded that Washington provide proof that they are alive, pointing to the killing of Venezuelan civilians and military personnel in the air raids.

Rodríguez described what happened as "blatant aggression," and announced the activation of popular militias and comprehensive defense plans, calling on the people to take to the streets to defend sovereignty and independence, invoking the legacy of Simón Bolívar as a historical symbol of resistance to foreign intervention. This speech was not directed only inward but carried a clear message abroad that Venezuela considers what happened a serious transgression that will not pass without consequences.

Internationally, Russia hastened to condemn the American attack, considering it an act of armed aggression, affirming its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and its support for the Bolivarian path and the protection of national sovereignty. This position once again reflected the depth of international division, where regional crises turn into testing grounds for broader global balances between Washington and its rivals.

The shock caused by the United States does not lie only in the arrest of a head of state, but in enshrining a new principle that sees military force as a direct tool for applying American law beyond its borders. This shift represents a dangerous retreat from international norms, transforming Washington from an influential player in the global system into a party reshaping it by force, which portends chaos if other powers decide to emulate this approach.

The Venezuelan case reveals the dilemma of "politicizing justice" in international politics. When criminal accusations are used to justify military intervention, the credibility of the rights discourse itself erodes. The absence of convincing public evidence weakens the American narrative and gives its adversaries the opportunity to portray the operation as a vengeful act, even turning Maduro, despite his controversial record, into a symbol of resistance in the eyes of his supporters.

More dangerous than the event itself is the precedent it establishes. If arresting heads of state by bombing becomes a legitimate option, the international system enters a new phase of instability. Weaker countries will be the most vulnerable, alliances will become more militarized, while opportunities for diplomatic solutions recede, pushing the world a step further toward the logic of the law of the strong instead of the strength of legitimacy.

In conclusion, the bombing of Caracas was not just a security operation, but a political earthquake that will have long-term repercussions. And between two contradictory narratives, the truth remains hostage to the balance of power, as the world stands before an open question: Was what happened a shocking exception, or the beginning of a harsher and more turbulent era in international relations.

Unveiling the circumstances of the death of 86 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons within less than 26 months

The Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office revealed on Saturday the circumstances of the death of 86 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons within less than 26 months, confirming the existence of a pattern it described as "disturbing" of widespread practices of "torture, medical neglect, and enforced disappearance."

This came in a "fact sheet" issued by the office affiliated with the "Hamas" movement, titled "Martyrs of the Shackles," covering the period from October 15, 2023, to December 10, 2025.

**Circumstances of Death

The "fact sheet" stated that 47 cases represent the main cause of death in "torture and beating," which was also coupled with a policy of "medical neglect."

The sheet indicated that 41 cases suffered from medical neglect, especially diseases like cancer, diabetes, disability, and scabies, in addition to previous "injuries" that were not treated.

It clarified that at least 22 cases were subjected to "enforced disappearance" during the detention period or even until the date of announcement of their death, noting that enforced disappearance appeared as a cause or place of death.

It also pointed out that it documented the death of two prisoners for using them as human shields within the execution categories, in addition to the death of two other prisoners by direct execution by firing.

According to the sheet's data, some cases fall under more than one classification, especially the categories of torture and beating, and medical neglect.

**Places of Death

Regarding the places of death, the "fact sheet" said that 59 prisoners died in the prisons of "Ofer, Megiddo, Negev, Ramla, Sde Teiman, and Janot," and 10 Palestinian prisoners died in the hospitals of "Rambam, Soroka, Meir, and Sheba Medical Center."

Meanwhile, the places of death for those subjected to enforced disappearance were not identified, according to the sheet's data.

The sheet considered these conditions to which the prisoners were exposed as "a serious violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention (which stipulates protection and provision of decent detention conditions), and a breach of the right to life and the prohibition of torture," and considered "enforced disappearance an independent crime."

**Calls and Demands

The sheet called for conducting independent and immediate international investigations into the cases of death inside Israeli prisons, and the necessity of stopping the policies of torture, medical neglect, and enforced disappearance.

It also demanded accountability for Israeli officials, and ensuring the right of families to recover the bodies of their deceased relatives inside the prisons.

This number of deceased prisoners, whose circumstances of death were documented by the Palestinian office, is part of a broader toll that the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said in November last year exceeded 100 within two years.

Israeli human rights organizations say that Israel continues to hide the real number of Palestinian prisoner deaths inside its prisons, while covering up the causes of death.

Coinciding with the start of the genocide war on Gaza on October 8, 2023, Israel escalated its violations against prisoners and the tightening on them inside prisons, while detaining dozens of Palestinians, especially from the Gaza Strip, without announcing it or mentioning details about detention places or health conditions.

Palestinian human rights institutions, including the Prisoners' Club, Al-Dameer Foundation, and the Prisoners' Affairs Commission, have previously stated that Israel escalated during 2025 campaigns of arrest and repressive measures in various areas of the West Bank.

These institutions documented about 7,000 arrest cases during the year, including 600 children and 200 women, while the number of arrest cases since October 8, 2023, reached about 21,000, including 1,655 children and 650 women, without counting detainees from Gaza and the occupied interior.

Death of 3 Palestinians, including a girl, by occupation fire in Gaza

Three Palestinians, including a girl, were martyred today, Saturday, by the fire of the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, according to local media and medical sources.

A medical source said that a woman (aged 45) was martyred by Israeli gunfire in Beit Lahia, northwest of the Strip, and her body was brought to Shifa Hospital west of Gaza City.

Eyewitnesses reported that Mrs. Al-Shish was martyred while she was in the Tel Al-Dhahab area in Beit Lahia town, within the areas from which the army withdrew pursuant to the ceasefire agreement.

Earlier on Saturday, a medical source said that a Palestinian girl (aged 11) was martyred by the occupation army's gunfire outside its deployment areas in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, and her body was brought to Shifa Hospital.

A medical source reported that a citizen (aged 27) was martyred by occupation gunfire near the Al-Shujaiya neighborhood bus stop, east of Gaza City.

It noted that a citizen was injured by occupation gunfire in his abdomen near Nasser Hospital west of Khan Yunis.

Meanwhile, a source in the ambulance and emergency services reported that two citizens were injured by the occupation army's fire in the vicinity of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

In a related context, local sources reported that army vehicles fired randomly east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in the center of the Strip.

Local sources also mentioned that occupation aircraft carried out 3 raids east of Khan Yunis, while Israeli helicopters and tanks fired towards the eastern areas of the city.

Israeli naval boats fired heavily at sea off Rafah city.

Since the agreement came into effect, the Israeli army has committed hundreds of violations, resulting in the martyrdom of 416 Palestinians and the injury of 1,153 others.

The agreement ended a genocide war launched by Israel on October 8, 2023, which lasted for two years, leaving more than 71,000 Palestinian martyrs, over 171,000 injured, and massive destruction affecting 90% of the civilian infrastructure, with reconstruction costs estimated by the United Nations at around 70 billion dollars.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Announces General Mobilization to Confront the 'Greatest Aggression' by the United States on the Country

The Venezuelan Defense Minister, General Vladimir Padrino López, described the military attack launched by the United States against his country as the 'greatest aggression' faced by the Republic in its modern history, while simultaneously declaring a state of general mobilization within the ranks of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces to respond to this direct targeting.

The Minister Padrino López confirmed in an urgent military statement that all army units and security forces have already begun implementing the instructions of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Nicolás Maduro, emphasizing that the primary objective at this stage is to 'confront the imperialist threat' and protect Venezuelan sovereignty through comprehensive field coordination to defend all national territories, and confirming that the Armed Forces will work at full capacity to deter any infringement on the country's security.

In a firm tone reflecting Caracas's categorical rejection of any external pressures or impositions, the Defense Minister stated that 'there is no bargaining on Venezuela's freedom and independence,' and continued by saying: 'We will not negotiate and we will not yield, and we will triumph in the end.'

He explained that the official position of the military leadership is based on protecting national achievements, responding to threats by adhering to the legitimate rights of the nation to determine its destiny away from foreign interventions.

The Minister also indicated that the American attempts primarily aim to instill panic and chaos among citizens to destabilize internal stability, calling on the Venezuelan people to 'not fall into the chaos' that the enemy seeks to impose, and to maintain unity and cohesion to overcome these critical moments.

López emphasized that popular awareness and national unity are the strongest weapon in facing what he described as the 'heinous aggression.'

Padrino López concluded his statements by affirming the combat capability and high morale enjoyed by the Venezuelan forces, noting that the Venezuelan nation will continue to defend its people and resources with an 'unyielding will.'

He said emphatically: 'We will prevail in this struggle, and the nation is the one that will triumph in the end,' in a clear indication of his confidence in the country's ability to repel the attack and preserve the unity of its territories.

Injury to a Palestinian and Settlers Attack Village in the West Bank

On Friday evening, the Israeli army injured a Palestinian, while settlers attacked a village in the occupied West Bank and fired shots in the air, causing panic among the residents.

In the town of Idna, west of Hebron city in the south of the West Bank, a Palestinian was slightly injured after Israeli army forces stormed the town, firing live ammunition and sound grenades.

Israeli settlers also attacked the outskirts of the village of "Furqah" west of Salfit governorate in the north of the West Bank, and fired live ammunition in the air.

Member of the Furqah village council, Mustafa Bakr, said that about 50 settlers attacked the northern outskirts of the village and fired live ammunition in the air, causing terror among the residents.

Bakr added that the Israeli army stormed the village to secure and protect the settlers, without reporting any injuries.

Since the start of the genocide war in Gaza on October 8, 2023, the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have killed at least 1105 Palestinians, injured about 11,000, in addition to arresting more than 21,000.

Meanwhile, the Israeli genocide with American support in Gaza has left more than 71,000 Palestinian dead and 171,000 injured, mostly children and women, and destruction affecting about 90% of the civilian infrastructure, with the UN estimating the reconstruction cost at about 70 billion dollars

UN Secretary-General Calls for Lifting Ban on Humanitarian Agencies in Gaza

Washington – Saeed Arikat

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, called on Israel to end the ban imposed on 37 international humanitarian agencies that were providing vital aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip, expressing his deep concern over the serious humanitarian repercussions of this decision. This call comes amid highly complex humanitarian conditions in the sector, where residents suffer from acute shortages of food, medicine, and basic services, due to the ongoing restrictions on the movement of aid.

The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, stated in an official statement that Guterres demanded an immediate reversal of this measure, emphasizing that international non-governmental organizations are an indispensable element in life-saving relief operations. He added that suspending the work of these organizations threatens to undermine the limited and fragile progress achieved during periods of ceasefire, and undermines international efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of civilians.

The statement indicated that this decision does not come in isolation from a broader context of previously imposed restrictions, which have already led to delays in the entry of vital shipments of food, medicines, hygiene supplies, and shelter materials. According to the United Nations, the recent measure is likely to exacerbate the existing humanitarian crisis and increase the fragility of the health and living conditions for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.

The Gaza Strip, home to more than two million people, heavily relies on external humanitarian aid to meet its basic needs, amid deteriorating infrastructure, rising poverty and unemployment rates, and recurring military operations. International humanitarian agencies have played a pivotal role in providing healthcare services, distributing food, supporting water and sanitation networks, in addition to providing shelter for the displaced.

Relief organizations warn that reducing their presence or suspending their operations will lead to a dangerous humanitarian vacuum, which could have long-term consequences, especially for the most vulnerable groups such as children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Moreover, the deterioration of humanitarian conditions may contribute to increased tension and instability, which negatively impacts opportunities for calm and peace.

Guterres' call reflects a growing international awareness that the crisis in Gaza is no longer just a political or security issue, but a compounded humanitarian catastrophe. The ban on humanitarian agencies does not target institutions as much as it directly affects civilians. From the perspective of international humanitarian law, ensuring access to aid is a fundamental duty, and any arbitrary restrictions on it undermine the credibility of international commitments to protect civilians in conflicts.

The United Nations affirms that the continuation of restrictions on humanitarian work contradicts the principles of neutrality and independence upon which international relief operations are based. UN officials also emphasized that humanitarian organizations do not participate in the conflict, but work exclusively to alleviate human suffering, and targeting or restricting them creates a dangerous precedent in other conflict zones around the world.

Human rights organizations, for their part, urge the international community to exert effective political and diplomatic pressure to ensure the lifting of the ban and allow the resumption of humanitarian work without obstacles. These organizations believe that international silence or mere statements of concern may encourage further measures that violate the basic rights of civilians.

The danger of the decision lies in its timing, as it comes at a stage that should witness the strengthening of humanitarian efforts, not their reduction. Ceasefires, if not translated into tangible improvements in people's lives, lose their practical meaning. Suspending the agencies' work drains any calm of its humanitarian content, turning it into a mere temporary security measure that does not address the roots of the daily suffering of the residents.

In this context, the future of humanitarian work in Gaza remains contingent on the extent to which the concerned parties respond to international appeals. Guterres affirms that the United Nations will continue to use all available channels to defend the right of civilians to receive assistance and protection, stressing that respect for international humanitarian law is not an option, but a legal and ethical commitment.

This crisis highlights a deeper issue related to the politicization of humanitarian work. When aid is used as a pressure tool, civilians become hostages to conflicts. Protecting the independent humanitarian space is essential to maintain the minimum of human dignity in conflict zones, and any breach of that threatens the entire international humanitarian system, not just the Gaza case.

A million people in Gaza urgently need shelter assistance

The spokesperson's office for the UN Secretary-General said on Friday that approximately one million people, or half the population of the Gaza Strip, still urgently need shelter assistance.

The office added in a statement that the need for shelter assistance continues, despite humanitarian workers distributing thousands of tents and hundreds of thousands of tarpaulin and other materials throughout the sector since the ceasefire.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs was quoted as saying that humanitarian workers in Gaza continue to assist the most vulnerable families, as harsh winter conditions leave hundreds of thousands of Palestinians struggling in temporary tents damaged by rain, wind, and sea waves.

On Thursday, a Palestinian woman and her child were martyred due to a fire that engulfed their tent in the Yarmouk area in the center of Gaza City, while trying to get warm in the bitter cold.

The Civil Defense Department said in a statement that a fire broke out in tents sheltering displaced people in the Yarmouk area in the center of Gaza City, and it was dealt with, with the bodies of a woman and her young child recovered, while another person injured with burns was rescued.

The statement added that the relevant authorities are still working on following up the details and circumstances of the incident.

In the absence of heating means, thousands of displaced people in the tents spread across the sector are forced to use primitive means for heating, by lighting fires or candles, which may be the cause of the fire outbreak.

Moreover, medical sources said that the child Malak Ghanem was martyred due to the bitter cold, inside her family's tent in the Nuseirat camp in the center of the Gaza Strip.

The Gaza Strip has been witnessing two waves of severe weather depressions since last week, resulting in the martyrdom of dozens of children, in addition to flooding and damage to about 53,000 tents sheltering displaced people in various areas of the sector.

This humanitarian catastrophe is worsening amid the occupation's failure to comply with the ceasefire agreement and the humanitarian protocol, especially regarding the entry of shelter materials, tents, and mobile homes necessary to protect the population from harsh weather conditions.

United Nations Calls on Israel to Abandon Bill for Executing Palestinian Prisoners

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, called on the Israeli authorities to abandon a new bill that imposes the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners.

In a statement issued on Friday, Türk urged the Israeli authorities to abandon their plans to propose new legislation imposing mandatory death sentences applied exclusively to Palestinians.

He warned that Israel "challenges international law on several levels."

Turk added that the drafting of these legislations, along with statements by Israeli politicians, indicates that the goal is for them to apply only to Palestinians, who are often convicted after unfair trials.

He emphasized that this raises serious concerns regarding discrimination against Palestinians and violations of their rights to fair trials, in addition to other violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

The High Commissioner said that these proposals also violate standards of international humanitarian law related to criminal procedures and imposing the death penalty on inhabitants of occupied territory.

He recalled that depriving any Palestinian from the West Bank and Gaza Strip of the fair trial guarantees stipulated in the Fourth Geneva Convention "constitutes a war crime."

He noted that the United Nations clearly opposes the death penalty in all circumstances, as it "is difficult to reconcile with human dignity, and it poses the risk of executing innocents, which is unacceptable."

Turk confirmed that the Israeli proposals to introduce mandatory death sentences leave no discretionary authority for the courts and violate the right to life.

The statement comes in response to a series of proposals presented before the Knesset, including amending the military law applied in the occupied West Bank, which obliges military courts to impose the death penalty mandatorily on all those convicted of intentional murder.

The proposals include amending the Israeli Penal Code to introduce the death penalty for those convicted of carrying out operations and intentionally killing Israelis, retroactively applying to those convicted in relation to the October 7, 2023 attacks.

In addition, there is a proposal to use the death penalty for acts of "terrorism or racism or hostility towards the public," which are terms defined in a vague and overly broad manner, according to the United Nations Human Rights Office.

"Hebrew Broadcasting": Tel Aviv Studies Launching a Large-Scale Military Operation in Lebanon and Netanyahu Discussed the File with Trump

The Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation revealed this Friday evening, quoting informed sources, that Tel Aviv is seriously studying launching a large-scale military operation in Lebanon; aimed at eliminating what it called the "Hezbollah threat".

The Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the issue of expanding Israeli occupation attacks with US President Donald Trump during their recent meeting in Florida earlier this week.

According to what was published by the Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation, Israeli occupation estimates indicate that "Hezbollah" has managed, under the current ceasefire agreement, to somewhat rehabilitate its organizational and military capabilities.

Israeli officials claimed that the Lebanese government is completely "helpless" in the face of the party's movements, which prompted Tel Aviv to hint at the direct military option.

Although the Trump administration does not rule out the possibility of Tel Aviv carrying out an operation against Hezbollah, the sources confirmed that Netanyahu received a request to delay making the final decision; in order to allow more room for dialogue with the Lebanese government.

This escalation comes amid internal reports of the Israeli occupation talking about the failure of political and diplomatic paths to impose disarmament on the party, which opens the door to new military calculations.

In contrast, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam renewed his affirmation of the state's seriousness in extending its authority, stating that the second phase of the army's plan to confine weapons will begin, covering the area between the two banks of the Litani River to the south and the Awali River to the north.

Salam explained that this phase requires careful follow-up due to its vast area, confirming the success of the military institution so far in fully controlling south of the Litani up to the borders, except for the points still occupied by Israel.

Salam announced that the Council of Ministers will hold a meeting at the beginning of the new year to evaluate the results of the first phase, demanding reciprocal steps from the Israeli side, represented by stopping aggressions and violations of the ceasefire resolution.

He indicated that Beirut is proceeding with its timeline, which includes subsequent phases covering Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and the Bekaa, despite Israeli threats that seek to obstruct this national path.

Israel renews its attack on the new mayor of New York after his decisions regarding Tel Aviv

Israel renewed its attack on Friday on the mayor of New York City, Zahran Mamdani, just one day after he officially assumed his duties, in the wake of decisions he made to end restrictions that were imposed on boycotting Tel Aviv, and to cancel the accreditation of a controversial definition of "antisemitism".

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that "Mamdani, on his first day as mayor of New York, revealed his true face, as he lifted the restrictions imposed on boycotting Israel and canceled the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism."

The Israeli Foreign Ministry described these decisions as "pouring oil on the fire of antisemitism," according to its expression.

Mamdani repeatedly rejected accusations of antisemitism, affirming that his criticism of Israel is based on considerations related to human rights. He pledged to protect the Jewish community in New York, while at the same time adhering to his positions regarding Middle East policies.

In the context of this controversy, Mamdani took another notable step by appointing lawyer Ramzi Kassem as the general legal advisor for New York City, praising what he described as "extensive legal expertise" and "commitment to defending marginalized groups," considering that his choice aligns with his vision for building a city that is "more just and prosperous."

However, this appointment sparked criticism in circles supportive of Israel, based on Kassem's professional record, including his work as an advisor on immigration policies in the White House during Joe Biden's administration, his defense of defendants in cases related to terrorism and detainees in Guantanamo, and his representation of student activists who participated in protests against Israel within American universities.

In November last year, Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli launched a sharp attack on Mamdani following his victory, claiming in a post on the "X" platform that "New York has handed its keys to a Hamas supporter," a description that Israeli officials have persistently used against anyone who criticizes Tel Aviv's policies and the genocide war it waged on Gaza.

Chikli added that "New York's choice (Mamdani) undermines the foundations of the city, which has provided freedom and opportunities for success to Jewish refugees since the late 19th century, and has become a stronghold for the largest Jewish community in the world," according to his claim.

Sharren Haskel, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, also described in November last year the result of Mamdani's victory as "very worrying," referring to his previous activities and political discourse.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, won the New York mayoral elections in November 2025, becoming the first Muslim to hold this position in a city that includes one of the largest Jewish communities in the world.

Mamdani had previously pledged in public statements to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he arrives in New York, where the United Nations is headquartered.

Angelina Jolie visits Rafah crossing and inspects injured Palestinians

The American global star and former UN Special Envoy for Refugees, Angelina Jolie, visited the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side east of the country on Friday.

She also inspected injured Palestinians receiving treatment at Al-Arish General Hospital in the border governorate of North Sinai, Egypt.

Egyptian official sources reported that Jolie arrived at the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side, where she was received by North Sinai Governor Khaled Majdi, and Ambassador Nabiela Makram, former Minister of State for Immigration and head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work.

They noted that Jolie's visit included inspecting the logistical warehouses belonging to the Egyptian Red Crescent, which are used to secure humanitarian supplies directed to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Jolie also visited Al-Arish General Hospital accompanied by Aroua Jayer, representative of the US Department of State, and in the presence of the North Sinai Governor.

During the visit, she reviewed the conditions of the injured Palestinians, reassured herself about their health status and the level of medical care provided to them.

Jolie praised the efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Health in receiving the injured and sick Palestinians and providing treatment to them in Egyptian hospitals.

On October 8, 2023, Israel began a war of collective genocide on the Gaza Strip that lasted two years, resulting in more than 71,000 Palestinian deaths and 171,000 injuries, in addition to widespread destruction affecting nearly 90% of the civilian infrastructure, while the United Nations estimated the cost of reconstruction at around 70 billion dollars.

Despite the ceasefire agreement entering into force on October 10, 2025, the living conditions in Gaza have not seen tangible improvement, due to Israel's evasion of fulfilling its commitments stipulated in the agreement, including importing the agreed quantities of food, relief, and medical materials, prefabricated homes, and opening the crossings.

Iran Protests: Deaths and US-Israeli Intervention and Judicial Escalation

Iran has been witnessing protests since last Sunday due to the deteriorating living conditions and worsening economic crisis, starting from the Grand Bazaar of Tehran through a strike by several commercial shops, then extending to other cities, while Israel and America entered the scene by announcing support for the protesters and urging them to continue the protest and strengthen its momentum.

The protests have so far resulted in six deaths, one of them from the Basij Popular Forces affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Kuhdasht in Lorestan province in western Iran, and three protesters in the city of Azna in the province during an attack on a police headquarters, in addition to two protesters in the city of Lordegan in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in central Iran.

During the protests, chants supporting the monarchy and its leader Reza Pahlavi, residing in the United States, emerged. There has also been limited participation so far from Tehran university students, who organized protest gatherings last Tuesday, and a number of them were arrested before being released later, while the Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology (Higher Education) Hossein Simayi Sarraf isolated security officials in three universities in an attempt to calm the students, noting that Iranian universities are on the verge of semester exams, where student attendance is disrupted, which could negatively affect students' involvement in the protests.

Meanwhile, while the reformist Iranian government and its president Masoud Pezeshkian tried to contain the crisis by acknowledging the right to demonstrate and dialogue with representatives of the bazaar and markets, traditional rhetoric in dealing with protests did not disappear, describing them in conservative media and figures as "riots", in addition to turning them into violent events in some cities, attacking government headquarters, institutions, and banks, resulting in at least six deaths and about 40 injuries according to media reports, and arresting dozens, 20 of them in the city of Lordegan and seven in the city of Kermanshah, on charges of links to opposition groups abroad, but no official figures yet on the number of deaths, injuries, and detainees.

The Iranian Attorney General Mohammad Mohammadi Asad threatened on Wednesday to confront "the diversion of protests", saying that "any attempt to turn economic protests into a tool for undermining security, or sabotaging public property, or executing pre-prepared foreign scenarios, will certainly be met with a proportionate and decisive legal response".

Furthermore, Ali Hasanzand, the Attorney General of Lorestan province in western Iran, which is witnessing protests, warned today, Friday, that the judiciary will deal firmly and without any leniency with those he described as "instigators of riots and anyone who harms public security", confirming that "participation in illegal gatherings and acts of disrupting order, sabotage, incitement, or threats are crimes that require judicial prosecution". He called on families to prevent their children from engaging in these gatherings.

The Iranian writer Salahuddin Khodiyu says that the map of protests reflects the integration of economic pressures with class transformations, adding that "it is still too early to reach a final conclusion regarding the composition of the ongoing protests in Iran, in terms of the social classes participating in them or their geographical scope", considering that the protests are still ongoing, making any definitive conclusion premature.

Khodiyu explained that the general pattern of participation in the current protests can be understood as a mix between the November 2019 protests over fuel price hikes, and the "Mahsa Amini" movement in 2022 over the hijab issue, noting the difficulty in formulating a precise sociological model that definitively determines the nature of participation, or the social classes, or the class backgrounds of the protesters. He added that the Mahsa Amini protests, which occurred after her death days after her arrest on the street for not complying with hijab rules, although initially classified as a middle-class movement due to the nature of its demands, especially regarding freedom of dress and women's rights and general freedoms, but when it expanded geographically and turned into mass protests in some cities, it acquired a protest character closer to a popular uprising, with a noticeable increase in the participation of lower social classes and the involvement of poor areas.

Khodiyu pointed out that the 2019 protests, which erupted over fuel price increases, were in turn of deeper economic and labor roots compared to previous protest movements, such as 1999 (student) and 2009 (protests over presidential election results), considering that the general path of protests since 2009 reflects a gradual deterioration in the economic structure of Iranian society.

Khodiyu explained that the disintegration of families' financial capacity, amid the ongoing economic crisis, led to a gradual fall of the middle class, where broad segments of this class, and even higher-income segments, slid towards lower classes. He pointed to the emergence of a new social phenomenon that can be called "the poor middle class", a category that includes individuals with higher education, carrying the culture and values of the middle class, who previously enjoyed a better standard of living, but today have regressed to the lowest economic ladder. The same speaker considered that the social base of each of the protests of the past years, and the current ongoing protests, can be interpreted as a mixture of the regressing middle class, and the poor segments, with hybrid categories such as "the poor middle class".

The Iranian expert clarified that the essential difference between the current protests and the 2022 protests lies in the fact that the main driver of the demonstrations in recent days is inflation and high cost of living and the economic crisis, confirming that the government's hand appears "completely tied", and it does not seem capable of providing quick and convincing solutions to calm the street.

Regarding the future of the protests, Khodiyu said that their continuation or retreat is linked to the extent of the disappearance or persistence of the structural drivers that produced them, predicting the persistence of these factors. He added that the United States and Israel have provided unprecedented support to the protesters compared to the past, considering that "the current economic pressures are the fruit of a maximum economic, political, and diplomatic pressure campaign, aimed at pushing Iran to change its behavior, or reaching, in case of failure, a regime change scenario".

He confirmed that the Iranian government faces an extremely difficult task in containing these protests, explaining that "even if their intensity temporarily subsides, they are likely to erupt again in the coming months, because their structural causes are deep and insoluble in the face of continuing sanctions and the absence of foreign investments, which seems unlikely given the internal and external political deadlock".

US President Donald Trump entered the line of demonstrations in Iran in an unprecedented way today, Friday, saying in a post on his social media platform "Truth Social": "If Iran shoots at peaceful protesters and kills them, the United States will intervene to save them", adding: "We are on alert and ready to launch".

The writer and political analyst Ahmad Zeidabadi said that "Trump's statements always need to be decoded, as he often takes positions then returns to soften them, or even reverses them sometimes". Zeidabadi wondered whether Trump's latest statement "is just an empty threat, or falls within the framework of psychological warfare, or if Trump actually carries a plan and program for intervention in Iranian affairs".

The Iranian writer also considered that military intervention aimed at "regime change" is the last thing Trump could think of, noting that the US National Security Strategy document classifies any action aimed at changing regimes as costly, ineffective, and rejected. He recalled that Trump emphasized, during his recent press conference with Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida, that "regime change in Iran is not something he should talk about, let alone that the spread of US forces in the region does not indicate readiness for rapid and imminent intervention in Iran". Based on that, Zeidabadi considered that military intervention in the short term is unlikely.

The same speaker explained that Trump's current policy is based on exercising "maximum pressure" on Iran to change its behavior, considering that "Trump views the ongoing protests as an opportunity to escalate pressure and threats, and may proceed in this path, in stages, to the point of attempting to delegitimize the regime". He pointed out that the impact of Trump's statements on the ongoing protests in Iran is of great importance, wondering whether US threats of intervention will lead to escalation of the protests or their retreat. He saw that these threats have a dual effect, as they may push a segment of protesters to caution and withdraw from the scene, while they may encourage other categories to continue the movement.

Following Trump's statements on Iran, Iranian authorities warned against any foreign interference in the country's internal affairs, confirming that they distinguish between demand protests and attempts to exploit them for destructive goals, emphasizing that any US move in this framework will contribute to escalating tension and threatening regional stability.

In the context, Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, warned that any US intervention in internal protests will lead to destabilizing the region and destroying US interests, noting that US statements accompanied by Israeli positions reveal the backgrounds of what is happening.

For his part, Ali Shamkhani, political advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, emphasized that Iran's national security is a red line, warning that "any interfering hand approaching Iran's security will be met with a painful response", considering that US threats are nothing but "adventures".

In turn, Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the US record exposes the falsity of its claims of sympathy with the Iranian people, reminding of the 1953 coup, the downing of a civilian plane in 1988, support for Iraq in the war, and maximum sanctions, considering that Washington's threats represent a blatant violation of international law, and confirming that "Iranians will not allow any foreign interference".

Israeli Occupation Army Studies Options for Military Action Against Hezbollah in Lebanon

The Israeli Occupation Army is preparing options for military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon, attempting to avoid a long attrition war, and limiting the aggression to "just a few days," in order to "not violate the ceasefire understandings reached between Israel and Lebanon, about a year and a month ago." The newspaper added that the leaders of the security system will hear from the Prime Minister of the Occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu, who returned to Tel Aviv today, details about the understandings and agreements he reached with the American President Donald Trump, and senior officials of the American administration, amid estimates that the United States will allow Israel to launch a military operation in Lebanon, under the pretext of "Hezbollah not abandoning its weapons, and the Lebanese government not taking practical steps to disarm the party, even in areas far from the Israeli borders, as it committed to Trump on the eve of signing the ceasefire agreement."

This reality pushes the Americans to stand by Israel's side in the anticipated military step. The Israeli security system intends to present a set of options to Netanyahu, to deal with what it describes as Hezbollah's ongoing attempts to rearm, and the Occupation Army estimates that strong military movements may push the Lebanese government again to take steps to "impose its sovereignty" against Hezbollah.

Israeli officials claim that France is refraining at this stage from using its weight to push for the disarmament of Hezbollah. They point out that France "is a central player in Lebanon," and had committed to overseeing the Lebanese government's implementation of the ceasefire agreement, but it is not acting as expected.

The same newspaper had previously revealed earlier this week the intention of the security institution to present a plan to Netanyahu for implementing a major operation soon. Officials in the security institution claim that "the movements in Lebanon do not meet the conditions of the ceasefire, and they are working to raise the readiness of the Israeli army to carry out an operation against Hezbollah if necessary, while emphasizing the necessity of implementing such an operation."

Meanwhile, the Israeli Occupation Army continues to violate the ceasefire agreement, through continuous attacks on Lebanese territories, as it launched, today Friday, a series of raids on several areas south of Lebanon, claiming that it targeted infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah, including "a training complex used by the Radwan unit, where members of the organization were trained in planning and executing operations against Israeli army forces and citizens of the state of Israel," according to its claim.

Ministry of Endowments: Settlers stormed a mosque and desecrated its sanctity in Salfit

The Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs stated that Israeli settlers stormed a mosque on Friday in Salfit Governorate, north of the occupied West Bank, and desecrated its sanctity.

The ministry explained in a statement that settlers stormed the "Al-Salam Mosque" in the town of Deir Ballut in the morning, took group photos inside its mihrab, and entered it with their shoes on, considering this "a violation of the sanctity of the place and a deliberate assault on mosques".

It confirmed that this incident comes in the context of the escalation of Israeli violations against Islamic holy sites in the West Bank.

The ministry called on international and human rights institutions "to assume their responsibilities in protecting places of worship and stopping the repeated assaults on them".

Since the start of the genocide war in Gaza on October 8, 2023, the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have killed at least 1,105 Palestinians, injured about 11,000, in addition to arresting more than 21,000.

Meanwhile, the Israeli genocide with American support in Gaza has left more than 71,000 Palestinian dead and 171,000 injured, mostly children and women, and destruction affecting about 90% of the civilian infrastructure, with the United Nations estimating the reconstruction cost at about 70 billion dollars.

Leaks reveal conspiracy by former Syrian regime officials with Israel to overthrow the current government

The leaks, which began broadcasting starting from last night, reveal the plans and intentions of some former officials in the Syrian regime to conspire against the current Syrian government, and their readiness to cooperate even with Israel to overthrow this government. The most prominent figures appearing in these leaks are Suheil al-Hasan, a former officer in the Assad regime's army, another prominent officer Ghiyath Dalla, in addition to Rami Makhlouf, the businessman and relative of the former regime president Bashar al-Assad.

Suheil al-Hasan emphasized that Rami Makhlouf stands behind the financing operations of the remnants of the Assad regime on the Syrian coast, and coordinating support for these operations, before moving on to attacking Hamas and the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, thinking he was speaking to an Israeli officer, calling for the extermination of Gaza's residents, and for killing operations that extend to the sons of both the Sunni and Shia sects alike, considering them enemies of Israel. Ghiyath Dalla appeared in the leaks, who agreed in the audio recording with Suheil al-Hasan about what he said regarding the movement in Syria.

The recordings are interconnected with the latest recording of Rami Makhlouf, who called on the sons of the Alawite sect to stay away from the calls of Ghazal Ghazal, and adhere to the Russian vision in Syria, in reference to a state of competition between currents within the Alawite sect, as it indicated that it obtained more than 600 documents revealing attempts by the remnants of the former regime to organize their ranks, and coordinate roles between military and security figures in the former regime.

In this context, the academic and researcher specialized in Islamic movements, Abdul Rahman al-Haj, pointed to the existence of competition for leadership of the Alawite sect in Syria between three parties: "The first is led by Rami Makhlouf and Khadr Ali Tahir nicknamed 'Abu Ali Khadr' and Suheil Hasan and Ghiyath Dalla, the second is led by Maher al-Assad and Kamal al-Hasan, and these two parties seek to communicate with Israel and coordinate with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), while the third party is a front led by Ghazal Ghazal and Muhammad Jaber, and it works in coordination with Iran and SDF."

Al-Haj indicates that the first team, which is the largest and most important among the competing parties, has the ability to control the sect due to its direct field connections with the remnants of the Assad regime on one hand, in addition to a state of frustration after the fall of the regime, where they were left to their fate unexpectedly.

Al-Haj believes that "the recent leaks relied upon by the team are based on direct Israeli support to establish a federal state, and that betting on an inevitable battle between SDF and the Syrian government constitutes a suitable opportunity to achieve this plan." He said: "In addition to this, the penetration that occurred to this depth, dozens of hours and hundreds of documents, was done through intelligence work, meaning that the operation revealed the plans, preparations, people, weapons, connections, and funding completely."

Al-Haj speculated that the Russian government is fully aware of the contacts of Suheil al-Hasan and Rami Makhlouf, and said in this regard: "I believe that the visits of Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani to Moscow and the presence of security and military figures in the delegation may be for this purpose." He continued: "Syria TV published, quoting a Western official, two days ago, part of the activity and contacts with the Israelis." He added, saying "The retreat of the Russian position in the level of commitment to providing protection or political cover for some projects that the remnants of the regime seek to promote after its fall, coinciding with the existing rapprochement between Damascus and Moscow."

Al-Haj pointed out that the Makhlouf current is completely exposed to the government. He continued "I do not expect it to receive Israeli support at the present time, despite the leaks saying that actual contacts occurred and Makhlouf met with an Israeli ambassador at least to obtain support," adding: "I believe that Israel is monitoring the situation on the Syrian coast amid this competition and division, and is trying to open communication lines between all parties, and perhaps SDF represents an important and common link between them, and it may be the candidate to facilitate and coordinate this contact between the Israelis and the Alawites with their competing factions."

Military groups became active after the fall of the Assad regime, the most prominent of which are the Coast Shield Brigade, and the Jawad Brigades, which the Syrian Ministry of Interior previously announced targeting several groups affiliated with it, since the revelation of its formation in a video statement broadcast via the 'Facebook' platform on August 2 last year, as the group broadcast a video recording at the beginning of September last year, announcing its responsibility for targeting a vehicle belonging to Syrian security.

Suheil al-Hasan is a former officer in the Assad regime's army, born in the village of Beit Anna in the countryside of Latakia in 1970, graduated from the Air College in 1991, to serve in air defense units then in air intelligence. His name emerged with the beginning of the Syrian revolution, where he founded the 'Tiger Forces' that committed systematic repression operations against Syrians, and had a prominent role in bombing and invading areas in Aleppo, Hama, and Idlib, with direct Russian military support. He was imposed American and European sanctions due to serious human rights violations, including mass killings and bombing civilians, carried out by his forces. In 2024, he was appointed commander of the special forces in the Syrian army, as part of broad structural changes within the army.

As for Ghiyath Dalla, he comes from the town of Beit Yashout in the countryside of Latakia, and joined the 42nd Brigade in the 'Fourth Division' with the rise of Maher al-Assad's star, and Dalla rose quickly in the military ladder to take the position of Chief of Staff of the Fourth Division in 2004. He became one of the most prominent executive arms of Maher in the regime's suppression of the Syrian revolution that started in March 2011, and acquired the nickname of Maher's striking arm thanks to his brutal tactics that targeted civilians.

Over 13 years of military confrontations with Syrians, Ghiyath Dalla became a symbol of repression in Syria. He led in August 2012 an attack on the city of Daraya in the countryside of Damascus that claimed the lives of 700 civilians, including entire families. After Assad's escape, in December 2024, Ghiyath Dalla disappeared from sight like dozens of security leaders. But he returned to appear through a statement issued by what he called the 'Military Council for the Liberation of Syria', declaring the determination to 'liberate' Syria from the 'occupiers' and 'overthrow the new regime'.

Gaza under fire again.. Intense raids and bombing strike various parts of the sector

The eastern areas of Khan Yunis city were subjected to artillery bombardment and intense gunfire. The occupation army, on Friday, launched a series of air raids and intense artillery bombardment targeting scattered areas of the Gaza Strip, in a new and dangerous field escalation that affected areas still under its direct military control, where loud explosions shook the targeted areas.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bombardment was concentrated simultaneously on three main axes, starting from the north where artillery pounded the eastern areas of Gaza City, especially the Zaytoun and Shujaiya neighborhoods, passing through the center of the sector which witnessed air raids east of Al-Bureij camp, and reaching the south where the eastern areas of Khan Yunis city were subjected to artillery bombardment and intense gunfire.

No accurate toll of injuries or human losses has been recorded so far, due to these attacks occurring within occupation-controlled areas and the difficulty of medical teams reaching them, amid the continued control of the occupation army over the southern and eastern strips of the sector, in addition to large parts of the north, equivalent to about 50% of the total area of Gaza.

These developments come at a time when the occupation continues to violate the ceasefire agreement announced since October 10, 2025; where hundreds of violations have been recorded, resulting in the martyrdom of hundreds of victims, as part of a bloody war ongoing for two years that has left more than 71,000 martyrs and massive destruction estimated to cost billions of dollars to rebuild.

Jerusalem between 2021 and 2025.. A heavy blood toll and settler encroachment besieging the holy city

The occupation's relentless pursuit to decide the battle for Jerusalem demographically and geographically

Recent official data revealed a heavy toll of Israeli violations in the occupied city of Jerusalem over the past five years, where a report issued by the Jerusalem Governorate painted a bleak picture of the field situation, documenting the martyrdom of 144 martyrs and recording unprecedented numbers in the settlers storming the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, indicating a systematic escalation in Judaization and repression policies.

These figures come at a time when the holy city is witnessing a fierce campaign targeting the Palestinian presence since the beginning of 2021 until the end of 2025. Indeed, the occupation authorities did not suffice with field killings, but resorted to doubling the pace of corpse detention as a tool for collective punishment and psychological deterrence, where 51 corpses remain hidden in morgues and in what is known as "number cemeteries," depriving families of their human right to bid farewell to their sons.

On the human losses front, the document indicated that 6528 Jerusalemites were injured with varying wounds due to assaults by occupation soldiers and settler gangs, who alone carried out about 1467 assaults targeting citizens and their property, including 484 attacks recorded in the past year alone.

Regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque, the data showed a dangerous leap in the number of intruders, where more than 289 thousand settlers desecrated the Haram courtyards during the mentioned period, in an attempt to impose a new reality. This coincided with widespread arrest campaigns that affected 11,555 Jerusalemites from all segments, including children, women, journalists, and mosque guards.

The occupation also resorted to the weapon of "banishment," issuing 2386 decisions, with Al-Aqsa having the lion's share at 1499 decisions, in addition to imposing house arrest on 821 citizens.

The city's stones were not spared from this war, as the governorate monitored 1732 demolition and bulldozing operations for homes and facilities, against distributing 1439 notices to stop construction. In contrast, the settlement wheel accelerated madly; where the report, in cooperation with "Association of Studies/East House," revealed the deposit of plans to build more than 35 thousand settlement units, and the final approval of about 28,700 other units, while more than 8300 units entered the tenders stage in preparation for actual implementation.

These data reflect, without a doubt, the occupation's relentless pursuit to decide the battle for Jerusalem demographically and geographically, by besieging the Arab presence with killing, arrest, and demolition, and in contrast, flooding the city with settlement blocs to create a reality that makes any future political solution impossible that restores rights to their owners.

Israeli artillery bombardment east of Khan Yunis and flooding of displaced people's tents in Al-Mawasi

Israeli occupation forces carried out artillery bombardment and tank fire within their deployment areas east of Khan Yunis city. Meanwhile, rains resulting from the weather low caused the flooding of a large number of displaced people's tents in the Al-Mawasi area, which is one of the most densely populated areas with displaced people.

The Murad axis, which separates Rafah city from the rest of Gaza Strip cities, has become a launch point for military operations targeting Rafah city and adjacent areas, such as the southern and eastern borders of Khan Yunis city.

Israeli artillery stationed within this axis fired its shells on the southern and eastern areas of Khan Yunis city, where explosions from these shells were heard.

It also clarified that gunshots fired yesterday from military barracks established inside the remaining residential buildings north of Rafah city led to the injury of 4 residents of adjacent displaced people's tents.

On the other hand, Israeli occupation vehicles carried out incursions in the eastern area of Khan Yunis, which is the hottest front due to the presence of 6 towns occupied by Israel, constituting more than 50% of the city's area and inhabited by about 150,000 people.

Occupation soldiers built earthen barriers and placed yellow cubes east of Salah al-Din Street in an expansion of the blue line.

Flooding of tents

It also reported that rains resulting from the weather low caused the flooding of a large number of displaced people's tents in the Al-Mawasi area, which is one of the most densely populated areas with displaced people.

It explained that the accumulation of large amounts of rainwater led to the formation of pools and swamps, amid the municipalities' inability to provide any services.

Although the current weather low was less severe than previous lows, the abundance of rain was sufficient to flood roads and displaced people's tents, especially in the Al-Mawasi area.

Israel prevents the entry of materials needed by Gaza Strip residents to protect against winter rains or repair their homes that were bombed, amid uncertainty about the timing and mechanism for starting reconstruction.

The Israeli genocide war in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, and lasted two years, left more than 71,000 martyrs and more than 171,000 injured Palestinians, mostly children and women, and immense destruction with reconstruction costs estimated by the United Nations at about 70 billion dollars.
