China launches a new environmental satellite

TAIWAN, China (Xinhua) -- Early Thursday morning, China launched a new satellite for disaster reduction, emergency management and environmental monitoring, from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province.


A Long March-2C carrier rocket carrying the S-SAR01 satellite took off at 6:53 am (Beijing Time).


The satellite entered the predetermined orbit, and the Ministry of Emergency Management and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will be the primary users of the said satellite.


The China National Space Corporation said that by obtaining S-band radar imaging data with a resolution of 5 meters, the satellite will support the purposes of disaster prevention, reduction, relief and environmental protection, and the satellite will also be used in the fields of natural resources, water conservancy, agriculture, forestry and earthquakes. and others.


The launch marked the 443rd mission of the Long March series of carrier rockets.
