A Palestinian was martyred today, Thursday, by Israeli occupation forces in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, while Israel prepares for the possibility of renewed fighting in Gaza. Nasser Medical Complex reported the martyrdom of a Palestinian by occupation forces' bullets within their deployment areas in Bani Suheila town, east of Khan Yunis city.
Citizen Aya Khader Barabakh (28 years old) was shot by the army inside her tent near Abu Hamid roundabout in the city center. Yesterday, 24 Palestinians were martyred and dozens more were injured in Israeli raids and artillery shelling that targeted displaced persons' tents and residential homes in various areas of the Gaza Strip, despite the ongoing ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Israel is preparing for the possibility of renewed fighting in Gaza as the Hamas movement rebuilds its positions. Israeli military officials predicted that Hamas would continue its attempts to attack Israeli army forces despite the ceasefire.
Senior officers believe that intermittent military operations may become the norm in the coming years in an attempt to undermine Hamas's ability to rebuild, and assessments indicate that the movement will not voluntarily give up its weapons or allow its tunnel network to be destroyed.
The Internal Security Service (Shin Bet) warned Israeli political leaders in closed meetings last month that Hamas is regaining its military strength, including resuming the production of rockets and weapons, especially explosive devices.
The newspaper stated that the Israeli army has developed a new plan to evacuate civilians to enable a large-scale ground operation later this year if ordered. The plan focuses on resettling civilians within the Gaza Strip east of the Yellow Line.
Daily, Israel violates the ceasefire agreement in the Strip, which has been in effect since October 10, 2025, resulting in the martyrdom of 556 Palestinians and the injury of 1,500, according to the government media office. The Israeli genocide over two years has left approximately 72,000 Palestinian martyrs and more than 171,000 injured, most of whom are children and women.
