The U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, stated in an interview with Bloomberg that the United States supports Israel in making "difficult decisions," on the eve of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's meeting with his security cabinet on Thursday to outline his plan for a complete occupation of Gaza.
Huckabee claimed in his interview with the agency that U.S. President Donald Trump is "weary of the fruitless efforts" to reach a ceasefire agreement, noting that Trump's recent statements reflect "his impatience with any legitimacy for an agreement with Hamas."
Huckabee, who advocates for settlement doctrine in the occupied West Bank and refers to it as "Judea and Samaria," speaking on behalf of the U.S. administration, said: "The president has concluded that they are not serious and are only seeking to stall," emphasizing that Washington respects "Israel's right to do what it deems necessary to protect itself, recover its hostages, and end this situation," adding that "Trump understands that there are difficult decisions that need to be made."
The U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, publicly expressed his support for the "difficult decisions" made by Israel regarding Gaza.
Huckabee's statements come in conjunction with Netanyahu's announcement of his intention to hold a meeting of his security cabinet (at 6 PM on Thursday in his office), where the council is expected to approve new plans for the occupation of Gaza, according to Hebrew media.
According to Israeli media, during a three-hour security discussion among a smaller group on Tuesday, Netanyahu was presented with options to continue military operations in the Gaza Strip by the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Eyal Zamir.
The security cabinet is expected to approve a complete military occupation of the sector during the meeting on Thursday, despite warnings from Zamir and military officials against it.
Hebrew radio "Kan" reported on Wednesday that military officials believe that proceeding with the plan will lead to heavy casualties among Israeli forces.
Defense officials estimate that "dozens" of soldiers may be killed, and a large number will be injured in the operation, according to "Kan." Thousands of soldiers from the occupation army have been killed and injured since the beginning of the war, with the occupation army acknowledging that 311 soldiers were killed on October 7, 2023.
"Kan" reported that military officials also warned of the danger that a complete occupation of Gaza could pose to the remaining hostages, "as the Israeli defense forces have so far refrained from knowingly operating in areas where they are believed to be held."
As reports indicate a rift between the Israeli Defense Forces and political leadership regarding the next steps in Gaza, with Netanyahu eager to proceed with his occupation, reports have indicated that Zamir recommended a gradual approach starting with besieging the city of Gaza.
It was reported that Netanyahu rejected Zamir's proposal and asked him to prepare plans for the occupation of the sector.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid stated that he informed Netanyahu during a security briefing on Wednesday morning that the occupation of Gaza is "a very bad idea." According to Lapid, the cost of this step will be "extremely high" for Israel, both financially and in terms of the number of casualties it may result in.
The Israeli occupation army issued a warning on Wednesday for the evacuation of Palestinian citizens residing in a small area west of Khan Younis, following a previous warning to evacuate the Zaitoun neighborhood in Gaza City.
It is noteworthy that Huckabee's statements regarding the Trump administration's support for Israel's occupation of the Gaza Strip also come amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and increasing international pressure on Israel to facilitate the entry of more aid.
While the United States has supported all of Israel's decisions in Gaza, it has also participated in initiatives aimed at addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza, after Israel decided to halt the entry of any aid into the besieged sector, such as support for the "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)," which was established by Israelis and is managed by American contractors.
The GHF operates through four distribution centers, controlled by the Israeli occupation army, which has turned those centers into "traps" for killing Palestinians seeking aid. Reports indicate that more than 1,300 Palestinian citizens have been killed by Israeli
