Family of activist Aisha Noor criticizes Biden's defense of Israeli military
Juliet Magid, a spokeswoman for the family of Turkish-American activist Ayse Nur Azgi Aygi, who was killed by Israel, said that US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris chose to defend the foreign military that killed Aygi instead of calling the family to offer their condolences.
In a statement published on Wednesday, Majed criticized Biden and Harris' statements, in which they defended the Israeli army instead of the American citizen, Aigi, who was killed by its fire.
“Aisha Noor and her family deserve justice,” she added. “While the family continues to mourn, President Biden and Vice President Harris have chosen to defend the foreign military that killed her instead of calling the family and offering their condolences.”
She called for an independent investigation to determine whether Aisha Noor was deliberately targeted or not.
On Tuesday, Biden, in response to a reporter's question about Israel's admission of killing Aigi, said he had received "more detailed" information on the matter, and said: "It appears that this was an accident, the bullet ricocheted off the ground, and hit her unintentionally. I am still looking into this issue."
In a related context, the President of the University of Washington, Anna Marie Kaus, said that she received "the horrific news of the killing of Aisha Aighi, a recent graduate, by Israeli forces in the West Bank. My heart goes out to Aisha's family, friends and loved ones."
Kaous added, in a statement received by Anadolu Agency, that the university lost a member for the second time in Palestine within one year.
On Friday, the Israeli army killed activist Aisha Nour with live bullets while she was participating in an event denouncing settlements in the town of Beita in the Nablus Governorate in the northern occupied West Bank.
The director of Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, Fouad Nafaa, said that Aisha Nour arrived at the hospital with a bullet wound to the head, where she was "resuscitated, but she was martyred."
