Palestinian Prisoners Club: Torture of detainees in Israeli prisons has not stopped

The Palestinian Prisoners' Club said on Sunday that Israel's policy of torturing detainees since October 7 has not changed, calling for an international investigation into this.

This came in a statement by the Prisoner Club, in response to “the crime of the Israeli occupation executing prisoners from Gaza immediately after their release.”

The club added: “Although 275 days have passed since the genocide, the testimonies of detainees and prisoners are still at the same level as the testimonies we received at the beginning of the war.”

It stressed that among these methods were "the crime of starvation and medical crimes, which together led to the martyrdom of dozens of prisoners and detainees, with the highest number of martyrs recorded among their ranks in the history of the prisoner movement."

The Prisoners' Club called on "the United Nations to open an impartial international investigation into the ongoing crimes against detainees and prisoners and field execution crimes," and called on the international human rights system to "assume its necessary responsibilities in the face of the intensity of these crimes."

It condemned "the crime of field execution carried out by the occupation army against four prisoners from Gaza, which constitutes a new war crime."

In details, the club indicated that “the four prisoners are workers in securing aid in Gaza. The occupation targeted them immediately after their release at the Kerem Shalom crossing (south of the Gaza Strip), where the body of one of them was recovered yesterday (Saturday), and three this morning (Sunday). ).

It added, "The pictures of their recovery and transfer indicate the presence of handcuffs on their hands, in addition to traces of torture."

The club quotes one of the survivors as saying, “The occupation forces arrested approximately 15 people, including a group of aid workers. The occupation army continued to arrest them for four days, during which they were subjected to torture, beatings, and humiliation, in addition to being held in harsh conditions.”

It pointed out, "Dozens of Gaza detainees were killed, whether in prisons and camps, or by executing them on the ground, while the occupation continues to hide the identities of dozens of Gaza detainees who were detained in prisons and camps, as part of the crime of enforced disappearance to which they are subjected."

The club pointed out that the total number of prisoners in Israeli prisons reached 9,700 at the beginning of this July, including 3,380 administrative detainees.

It pointed out that "among the detainees are more than 1,400 from Gaza, whom the occupation prison authority classified as illegal combatants," indicating that the number does not include all Gaza detainees, who number in the thousands, including women and children.

Since the start of its ground operation in the Gaza Strip on October 27, the Israeli army has arrested thousands of Palestinians, including women and children. A small number of them were later released, while the fate of the others remained unknown amid fears that grave violations would be committed against them.

According to previous testimonies of released prisoners, the Tel Aviv authorities are committing “grave violations” against Palestinian prisoners, while a severe decrease in their weight and ability to concentrate has been observed as a result of their suffering in Israeli prisons.
