Vietnam records an unprecedented temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius

The Vietnamese authorities announced that a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius was recorded on Saturday at the meteorological station in the north of the country.

The National Hydrometeorological Center stated that this temperature was recorded by its station in Thanh Hoa Province (central north).

This temperature exceeds the previous national record of 43.4 degrees Celsius recorded on April 20, 2019 in Hong Khe District, Ha Tin Province (center).

"This is a worrying record in the context of climate change and global warming," climate science expert Nguyen Ngoc Huy told AFP in the capital, Hanoi.

The climate of Vietnam varies from north to south, but the whole country is currently experiencing the hottest months.
South Asia experienced a heatwave for most of April.

"I think this rise will be repeated (...) and confirm that the extreme climate models look correct," Nguyen Ngoc Huy said.

Scientists have demonstrated that global warming exacerbates extreme weather conditions.
