For the second time in months... Shooting targets the US Consulate in Toronto

Canadian security sources reported a shooting incident targeting the vicinity of the US Consulate in Toronto early Monday morning, confirming that the attack did not result in any human casualties among staff or passersby. City police explained that they received a report immediately after hearing gunshots on the vital 'University Avenue' street, where patrols quickly cordoned off the area and collected forensic evidence.

Preliminary investigations indicated that at least one bullet struck the facade of the consulate building, where investigators found an empty bullet casing at the scene as primary material evidence. Sources noted that one of the officers responsible for securing the site heard the sound of the shot at 4:46 AM, prompting an immediate security alert around the diplomatic mission.

Surveillance cameras and security personnel observed a 'white sedan' car leaving the area at high speed immediately after the incident. Police units briefly pursued the suspected vehicle, but were forced to end the chase to ensure public safety due to the high speed at which the car was traveling through the city streets.

This incident is the second of its kind targeting the US Consulate in Toronto in just four months, as the building was subjected to a similar attack on March 10th. The previous incident involved several gunshots, which prompted Canadian authorities at the time to tighten security measures around US and Israeli diplomatic premises in the country.

Investigators are linking this attack to a series of security incidents that Toronto has recently witnessed, which included targeting Jewish temples and schools with separate shootings. Intelligence and security agencies are working to examine potential links between these attacks, especially in light of the escalating security tensions in the region recently.

Security reports issued last June revealed plans to recruit young people and provide them with money to carry out attacks against specific targets, including the US Consulate and religious institutions. Those investigations resulted in the arrest of three individuals in connection with last March's attack, in a complex security operation that saw an exchange of gunfire leading to the death of a police officer.

For his part, Frank Barredo, Deputy Chief of Toronto Police, stated that the motives behind this new attack remain unclear at the moment, pending the results of the forensic laboratory. Barredo confirmed that the police are currently reviewing all video recordings and interviewing eyewitnesses to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice as quickly as possible.

One of the officers assigned to protect the consulate heard the sound of gunfire, and investigations are still in their early stages to determine the motives.
