The Israeli army announced the launch of a large military exercise lasting for a week, with the participation of units from the Israeli Navy and forces from the Fifth Fleet of the American army.
The army explained in an official statement that this exercise is called "Intrinsic Defender", and dozens of Israeli Navy soldiers are scheduled to participate in it.
The army confirmed that the main goal of this exercise is to enhance the level of strategic and operational cooperation between the Israeli and American naval forces, in addition to training the participating forces to deal with various potential regional threats.
The Israeli army did not specify in its statement the location where this joint exercise will take place.
This exercise comes in light of statements by the Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, in which he stated that the Israeli army is "preparing to deal with surprise war scenarios," considering that this preparation "is one of the important foundations for building strength in the coming years."
Israel and the United States conduct joint military exercises on a regular basis, as part of what Israel describes as deepening military alliance and raising the level of readiness of forces to deal with "increasing security challenges" in the region.
The exercise aims to enhance the level of strategic and operational cooperation between the Israeli Navy and its American counterpart.
