In an article, journalist Thomas Friedman pointed out that the Israeli aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip could bring Israel to the brink of political suicide. He noted that the current Israeli government is committing murders against Palestinians, threatening its standing in the world and leading to a rift in Israeli society.
Friedman expressed concern that the war is destroying relations between Israel and Jews around the world, as the Jewish community is divided between those who wish to support Israel and those who can no longer justify the actions of the Israeli government. He emphasized that this war is leading to a loss of international support for Israel.
He also referred to the Israeli airstrikes on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including five journalists. He explained that the Israeli army carried out the strike without a clear target, reflecting a disregard for innocent lives.
Friedman criticized the policy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which aims to prolong the war to remain in power, noting that this policy leads to further suffering in Gaza and increases international criticism.
He added that Netanyahu relies on the support of far-right ministers, complicating the situation in the occupied West Bank. He confirmed that Israel has destroyed Hamas as a military force, but is now pursuing lower-level leaders, resulting in more collateral damage.
Friedman also criticized the Israeli army's use of civilian evacuations in Gaza as a pretext for demolishing their homes deliberately, aiming to make their lives miserable. He considered this not just murder, but collective suicide.
He pointed out that the world is beginning to distinguish between a war fought for the survival of the Jewish state and a war fought for the political survival of Netanyahu. He affirmed that the loss of Palestinian civilian lives has become an inevitable consequence of Israeli aggression.
Friedman warned that the continuation of this situation will lead to a rift in the Jewish community worldwide, especially during Jewish holidays, when Jews will face internal conflicts over supporting Israel.
In conclusion, Friedman expressed hope that President Trump could stop this geopolitical suicide, warning that Netanyahu might deceive Trump as he deceived Putin in Ukraine.
He confirmed that the world can no longer ignore what is happening in Gaza, and there is an urgent need to find a just solution that guarantees the rights of Palestinians.
The world can now distinguish between a war waged for the survival of the Jewish state and a war waged for the political survival of its Prime Minister.
