The global public opinion shift against Israel, especially in Europe and America, is not the most dangerous challenge Israel faces; this can be remedied over time with money and public relations firms. What cannot be repaired is the rebellion of Jews against the Zionist movement and the questioning of Israel's representation of the Jews.
If the global public opinion shift against Israel is considered an external factor, then the rebellion of Jews against Zionism is an internal factor that can expand and undermine the foundations of the Zionist movement, which is based on the theory that it represents the Jews and seeks global recognition of the Jewish state and the completion of the mythical biblical narratives.
About two months ago, a conference was held in Vienna that included Jewish leaders from around the world under the slogan "Jews Against Zionism." On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a Jewish gathering against Zionism was formed in Paris; not as a secular gathering against the religious, but as a Jewish gathering committed to Jewish ethics, standing against Zionism and its morals. Here we remember the Neturei Karta organization and its religious stance rejecting Zionism as a betrayal of Jewish teachings. The role of this organization has grown in demonstrations in America, Britain, and Jerusalem. This organization does not recognize the right of Jews to build a state and rejects Zionism and the state of Israel.
In the demonstrations occurring at American universities, Jewish organizations have emerged fighting against Zionism and demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza and freedom for Palestine. Among these organizations is the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), which is considered one of the active organizations; it emphasizes the importance of justice and equality and supports pro-Palestine activities in various forms. There is another student group called Independent Jewish Voices (IJV) and another group named the Jewish Faculty Network (JFN). Jewish students' participation is not limited to these organizations; they also participate (especially the secular ones) in all university organizations and student activities supporting Palestine.
We have observed large demonstrations in America, Canada, France, and Britain carrying Palestinian flags, with organizers wearing Palestinian keffiyehs and raising slogans: "Not in our name," "Jews Against Zionism," and "Freedom for Palestine, from the river to the sea."
Prominent Jewish academics have also participated by signing memoranda and issuing statements and declarations supporting the Palestinian people's right to establish their state. The positions of these figures vary from denying Israel's right to exist to recognizing the Palestinian people's right to establish their state. The latest of these memoranda was signed by 52 academics in Britain calling for the lifting of the ban on the "Work for Palestine" association, including several Jews such as Avi Shlaim, Ilan Pappé, and Naomi Klein.
The positions of Jewish thinkers, politicians, historians, and archaeologists have had a significant impact, including Norman Finkelstein, Ilan Pappé, Gideon Levy, Miko Peled, Meir Bar, Avi Shlaim, Shlomo Sand, writer Naomi Klein, Judith Butler, and Bernie Sanders. These positions have shown the world that there is a difference between the Zionist movement and the Jews, and that Israel does not represent the Jews, which has emboldened demonstrators in universities and streets, making them less concerned about the seriousness of the accusation of anti-Semitism.
It is important to recognize the role of Jewish journalists and media figures such as Max Blumenthal, Mickey Bileid and his sister Merav, Gideon Levy, comedian Jon Stewart, activist Medea Benjamin, and many others.
In contrast to these thinkers and academic and cultural figures, the role of settlers and extremists is rising with their uncivilized practices, which increases the gap between the two sides. This is clearly evident outside the borders of Israel.
The results of the existence of moral positions from a large number of Jews and anti-Zionist Jewish gatherings can be summarized as follows:
1. Israel does not represent the Jews of the world, and Zionism does not represent Judaism; rather, it is a danger to Jews and Judaism.
2. Zionism is a military project under a religious guise.
3. The positions of new historians and Jewish archaeologists (and other non-Jews) have shaken the theory of "the Promised Land" and "the chosen people."
4. It is no longer easy to believe in Zionist narratives in general, and discussing anti-Semitism is no longer a taboo.
5. Indigenous Jews were part of the Palestinian people, and coexistence among the components of this people can continue away from Zionism.
