Vance: America and Britain differ on Gaza, but they share the goal of ending the crisis.

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated at the beginning of his meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy that while Britain and the United States may differ in how to address the crisis in Gaza, they share a common goal of seeking to end it. Vance arrived in London before heading to Chevening, accompanied by his family.

During the meeting, the two officials expressed a great deal of warmth, with Lammy suggesting that Vance enjoy a seaside walk in Kent, while the Vice President expressed his 'love' for Britain. This friendly atmosphere comes at a sensitive time marked by political tensions between the two countries.

When asked about London’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state, Vance pointed out that the United States and Britain have a shared goal of resolving the crisis in the Middle East, but he added that his country does not intend to recognize a Palestinian state, citing the lack of an effective government there.

In contrast, Britain is taking a firmer stance towards the occupying state, having announced its intention to recognize a Palestinian state in cooperation with France and Canada, in order to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Vance's visit comes amid escalating transatlantic tensions and internal political shifts in both countries, with Vance emerging as a key figure in President Donald Trump's administration. Vance and Lammy are also expected to discuss the war in Ukraine during their meetings.

A small group of protesters was also present near Chevening, with some waving Palestinian flags, reflecting the ongoing tensions surrounding the Palestinian issue. This visit comes at a critical time, as Trump is scheduled to make a historic second state visit to Britain next month.
