Turkey strongly condemns Ben Gvir's raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque and emphasizes the responsibility to protect holy sites

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation on Sunday of the raid by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, accompanied by settlers and under the protection of Israeli police forces. The ministry confirmed in an official statement that protecting Islamic holy sites and the religious identity of Jerusalem is not only a regional responsibility but a shared humanitarian duty that requires international efforts to preserve them.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry pointed out that these systematic provocations and the recent calls to annex parts of Jerusalem by Israel aim to undermine the foundations of the two-state solution and cause severe damage to hopes for peace and stability in the region. Turkey called on the international community to take immediate action to stop the escalation and work towards establishing a lasting peace based on the two-state solution, ensuring the rights of Palestinians and halting destabilizing occupation practices.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry reiterated its strong condemnation of the incursions by some Israeli ministers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, confirming that this was done under the protection of Israeli police and with the participation of groups of Israeli settlers. It stated that these actions constitute a blatant violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and represent a serious escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.

On Sunday morning, the leader of the far-right "Jewish Power" party, Ben Gvir, again raided Al-Aqsa Mosque, where he led a Talmudic prayer in its courtyards to commemorate what they call the "destruction of the temple." Hebrew media outlets, including "Israel Hayom" and Channel 7, published video clips showing the raid carried out by Ben Gvir, amid a heavy presence of settlers.

This was preceded by hundreds of settlers raiding Al-Aqsa Mosque, where they performed Talmudic prayers in view of the police forces that provide protection for the incursions, which are under Ben Gvir's authority. These actions are provocative and continuously escalate, increasing tensions in the region and threatening opportunities for calm and peace.
