Closure in Hebron and Israeli military deployment to enhance settlers' incursions into an archaeological site
The occupation forces closed the area and forced shop owners to shut down, in an attempt to secure settlers' incursions into the archaeological site.
Israeli army forces closed the center of Hebron city in the southern occupied West Bank on Sunday evening, as part of an extensive military deployment aimed at securing settlers' incursions into an archaeological site known as "the Tomb of Hebron" on one of the city's streets. The area witnessed a wide deployment of occupation forces that closed central and vital markets, forcing shop owners to close their stores, which led to the area being emptied of Palestinians.
Eyewitnesses reported that the occupation forces were heavily deployed on Beer Sheva Street, where settlers invaded the archaeological site in groups, accompanied by Israeli army personnel, and performed Talmudic rituals at the site that settlers claim is the tomb of "Hebron" or "Ben Kanas," believed to belong to a Jew who lived in Hebron in the past. Palestinians assert that the tomb is located inside the basement of a Palestinian home, a claim denied by the Jewish narrative.
In the context of the escalation, the Israeli army and settlers have increased their assaults in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the deaths of at least one thousand two hundred and twelve Palestinians, and injuring about seven thousand others, in addition to the arrest of more than eighteen thousand five hundred people, according to official Palestinian data. Israel continues its genocidal campaign in Gaza since the beginning of October 2023, which has resulted in over 210,000 martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, with more than nine thousand missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine claiming the lives of many innocents.
