The United States imposes sanctions on Palestinian Authority officials.

The US State Department said in a statement on Thursday that the United States has imposed sanctions on Palestinian Authority officials and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The statement said that this step prevents those targeted from obtaining visas to travel to the United States.

The statement added: "It is in our national security interest to impose sanctions and hold the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority accountable for failing to fulfill their obligations and undermining the prospects for peace."

The State Department added in the statement that "the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority are not complying with their obligations under the Palestine Liberation Organization Commitments Compliance Act of 1989 (PLOCCA) and the Middle East Peace Commitments Act of 2002 (MEPCA), taking actions to internationalize their conflict with Israel, such as through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), continuing to support terrorism, including incitement and glorification of violence (especially in school textbooks), and providing funds, salaries, and benefits to support terrorists and their families."
