ActionAid International has expressed its deep shock at the ongoing devastation caused by the aid distribution scheme run by the US- and Israeli-run Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
In this regard, the organization said in a statement issued Saturday that more than a month has passed since the launch of these aid distribution centers, and to date, 516 people have been killed while attempting to reach the distribution points, which, instead of providing humanitarian relief, have become a deadly trap for the people of Gaza.
She stressed that this plan is completely unacceptable and violates the basic humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
She stressed the need for the Israeli authorities to comply with international humanitarian law and ensure the safe and unimpeded flow of life-saving aid into Gaza, noting that military zones run by armed contractors are no substitute for an effective humanitarian system.
“While the world’s attention is focused on the escalating political developments in the region, Gaza is being forgotten. Its people, desperate for food, are forced to walk long distances and enter heavily militarized areas where they face violence,” said Reham Jafari, Communications and Advocacy Officer at ActionAid Palestine. “This is not a humanitarian operation, it’s a death trap. The people of Gaza need aid, not gunfire.”
The organization called for a complete withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip and a permanent end to the war, immediately.
