Hamas announces approval of a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Khalil al-Hayya, head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip, announced Saturday evening that the movement had approved a new ceasefire proposal for the Strip, which it had received from Egypt and Qatar. He expressed hope that Israel would not obstruct the proposal.

In a televised address, Al-Hayya said, "Two days ago, we received a proposal from our mediating brothers in Egypt and Qatar. We dealt with it positively and approved it. We hope that the occupation will not obstruct it and thwart the mediators' efforts."

He added, "Anyone who believes that we will hand over the Gaza Strip to an unknown entity controlled by the occupation is delusional."

He stressed that "the resistance's weapons are a red line, and their survival is linked to the end of the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state."

Al-Hayya said, "We hope our brothers in Egypt will expedite the formation of the agreed-upon committee to administer the Gaza Strip," noting that "the movement has responded to the Egyptian brothers' proposal to form a committee to administer the Gaza Strip and is reaching advanced stages in this regard."
