Republican candidate Donald Trump announced his victory in the US presidential election from the stage of the Palm Beach Convention Center in Florida on Wednesday.
"I thank the American people for electing me to be the 47th president," Trump said.
He continued: "We achieved a political victory that our country has never witnessed before."
"We won the swing states, we made history tonight and this is a political victory, we will begin the golden age of the United States," Trump said.
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson congratulated "President-elect" Donald Trump on Wednesday, after Fox News was the first to declare him the winner even though other networks have yet to decide the outcome of the White House race.
"Donald Trump is now our president-elect, chosen by the American people for a term like this," Johnson said.
