The Ministry of Interior in Serbia announced that a person armed with a bow and arrow wounded a policeman guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, on Saturday, and the policeman returned fire, killing the attacker.
Interior Minister Ivica Dasic said in a statement that the attacker fired a short arrow at the policeman, hitting him in the neck.
He added that the policeman "used the weapon in self-defense to shoot the attacker, who died of his wounds."
The Interior Minister indicated that the policeman was conscious when he was taken to the main emergency hospital in Belgrade, where he would undergo surgery to remove the arrow from his neck.
“All circumstances of the attack and its possible motives are being investigated,” Dasic explained.
According to the Associated Press, the identity of the attacker is still under investigation.
It is noteworthy that Serbia has maintained close relations with Israel, amid its war in Gaza that has been ongoing for more than 8 months.
