Russia's envoy to the United Nations said on Monday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is ready to meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken later this month, when he travels to New York , if there is a desire from Washington .
Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, indicated in a press conference about his country's assumption of the rotating presidency of the Security Council during the month of April, that Lavrov will be in New York to chair two meetings of the Security Council on April 24 and 25.
When asked if Lavrov will meet Blinken, he said that this meeting depends on Blinkin's time and desire to meet with his Russian counterpart.
"If such a meeting is requested, I think Secretary Lavrov would be willing to meet Secretary Blinken," he added.
But for that, we need at least one condition, which is the desire to meet."
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet Lavrov while in New York, Guterres' spokesman said Monday.
In the same context, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said, "I have no doubt that Lavrov will meet with the Secretary-General, when he is here," adding, "This meeting will review a long list of issues and items on the agenda of the Russian Federation and the United Nations Secretariat."
