BEIJING, (Xinhua) -- China's National Market Regulatory Authority said Friday that electric car maker Tesla Inc. is recalling 67,698 vehicles in China due to software problems related to imported Model S and Model X vehicles.
The recall covers parts of vehicles produced between September 25, 2013 and November 21, 2020, according to a statement provided to the authority.
Due to software errors, the battery management system will miscalculate, displaying warnings such as "maintenance required" and "safe parking" on the screen. As a result, the car will gradually stop saving energy, which in extreme cases could lead to collisions.
Tesla promised free software updates on recalled vehicles to fix the problem.
